    Ivy Insights

The Pursuing Faith podcast, hosted by Dominic Done, is undoubtedly a hidden gem in the world of Christian podcasts. As a listener, I was initially drawn to this podcast after hearing Dominic speak at my church in Sacramento. From that moment on, I found myself captivated by his ability to bring scripture to life and engage with challenging questions surrounding faith. The podcast itself is a continuation of the sermons given at his own church, and each episode is filled with knowledge, inspiration, and thought-provoking discussions.

One of the best aspects of The Pursuing Faith podcast is Dominic's deep understanding and knowledge of scripture. His ability to interpret and explain the Word of God in a way that resonates with listeners is truly remarkable. With each episode, Dominic brings a fresh perspective to the biblical texts, allowing them to become more than just ancient words on a page but rather a living and active message from God. It is evident that he has dedicated countless hours to studying scripture, and his passion for sharing its transformative power shines through in every episode.

Another highlight of this podcast is Dominic's willingness to think critically about faith and invite challenging questions into the conversation. He does not shy away from addressing doubts or concerns that many believers may have, but instead embraces them as opportunities for growth and deeper understanding. This level of authenticity creates a safe space for listeners to explore their own faith journey and encourages them to ask the tough questions without fear or judgment.

In terms of drawbacks, it is difficult to find any major flaws within The Pursuing Faith podcast. However, some listeners may find that certain episodes lack diversity in terms of guest speakers or topics covered. While Dominic himself brings a wealth of knowledge and insight, it would be interesting to hear from different voices within the Christian community who can offer alternative perspectives or experiences.

In conclusion, The Pursuing Faith podcast is an absolute must-listen for anyone seeking inspiration and encouragement in their faith journey. Dominic Done's ability to communicate and ask thought-provoking questions is truly inspiring, and his genuine passion for sharing the love of Jesus shines through in every episode. Whether you are a longtime believer or someone grappling with doubts, this podcast offers a refreshing and authentic space to engage with scripture and explore the depths of your faith. Give it a listen, you won't be disappointed!

Acts 2 records one of the greatest and most important sermons ever preached. God used it to spearhead a revival that turned the world upside down. What's surprising, however, is not that God used words to initiate a revolution — but who he used to speak it. In this message, Dominic shares how grace retells the story of our failure and makes it something beautiful. As Brennan Manning wrote, "To live by grace means to acknowledge my whole life story, the light side and the dark. In admitting my shadow side I learn who I am and what God's grace means: that a saint is not someone who is good but who experiences the goodness of God.”Links:www.PursuingFaith.orgThrive Conference - Granite Bay, CA

In this episode of Pursuing Faith, Dominic explores John 8, and the words Jesus spoke to a woman who was full of shame. He said to her, “neither do I condemn you, go your way and sin no more."When we are in a place of shame, the natural response is to hide our truest self or to push people away. For example, in the book of Genesis, Adam and Eve ate of a tree and realized they were ‘naked and ashamed' and immediately hid from God. Shame always causes isolation, because intimacy is the risk that our shame will be exposed. In the words of Bene Brown, “Shame corrodes the very part of us that believes we are capable of change.”But here's the good news: because of grace, we don't have to live in shame anymore. In a world that continuously lies about our identity, that loves to remind us of all that we're not — not rich enough, smart enough, good-looking enough, or famous enough—God says: You are mine. And you always have been. Nothing can change that. You are not defined by the mistakes you've made but by the grace of God. Links:www.pursuingfaith.org

What's unique about this gospel is that, unlike the other gospels, John doesn't give us the facts about Christmas. For example, there is no mention of the manger, the star or the wise men. Instead, he digs past the details and shares what Christmas means — not only theologically, but for our lives personally.Augustine, the early church theologian once wrote: “Man's maker was made man that He, Ruler of the stars, might nurse at His mother's breast; that the Bread might hunger, the Fountain thirst, the Light sleep, the Way be tired on its journey; that Truth might be accused of false witnesses, the Teacher be beaten with whips, the Foundation be suspended on wood; that Strength might grow weak; that the Healer might be wounded; that Life might die.” The meaning of Christmas is unearthed when the truth and beauty of Jesus incarnation is considered. Questions: Why is God Silent?

Of all the causes of doubt in our lives, the silence of God is hardest to understand. In some ways, it's similar to the doubts we experience when we suffer; but it comes at us in a different way. Suffering is often caused by a sudden, catastrophic event. But the silence of God can be glacial. It slowly gnaws at us, and has the potential to shake our faith. According to the philosopher, Michael Rae: “God's silence is painful for us. Many believers experience crippling doubt, overwhelming sadness, and ultimate loss of faith as a result of ongoing silence…many people have been positively damaged by divine silence.”Have you ever struggled with the silence of God? Have you ever gone through a season where it feels like he is a million miles away? How should we respond in times like that? And why is it so hard sometimes to hear God's voice? In this episode, Dominic unpacks this challenging question and offers some practical steps we can take to hear from God again.Books Mentioned in the Episode:Silence by Shusaku EndoParables of Kierkegaard by Søren KierkegaardWhen Faith Fails, Finding God in the Shadow of Doubt by Dominic Done(Chapter 8: Why is God silent?) Questions: Is There a Conflict Between Faith and Science?

It was more than four hundred years ago that Francis Bacon, now recognized as the architect of the scientific method, made the claim that God has given us two books to study: Scripture and creation. God's Word and God's world. He believed that not only was there a beautiful synthesis between faith and science, but that they, in different ways, give us a fuller revelation of who God is. Times, however, have changed. According to a recent poll, 55% of Americans believe that there is an inherent conflict between faith and science. How should we respond? What does Christianity teach us about the interaction of faith and science?Resources:PursuingFaith.orgBooks Mentioned in this Episode:Cosmic Chemistry by John LennoxCan Science Explain Everything by John LennoxWhere the Conflict Really Lies: Science, Religion and Naturalism by Alvin PlantingaScience and Religion: a New Introduction by Alister McGrathThe Great Partnership: Science, Religion, and the Search for Meaning by Jonathan SacksWe'd love to hear from you! info@pursuingfaith.org
