Guest: Erin Williams, LPC, PCA US Counselor, Plano campus If you'd like to watch this podcast, check out the PCA YouTube page. This is week two of a great conversation with Erin Williams about the book Never Enough: When Achievement Culture Becomes Toxic - and What We Can Do About It by Jennifer Breheny Wallace. This book is a New York Times bestseller, but remember that it is written from the perspective of someone without a Biblical worldview. Wallace does raise some very profound and provocative questions that need to be answered, especially when the research says that 1 in 3 students may be impacted by what Wallace calls the “excessive pressure to achieve.” Praying that you find this conversation insightful and practical. It is broken down into two episodes - the first episode was released last week.

Mike Petrusky asks Jamie about her time at Pixar and they explore how physical environments and organizational culture can facilitate or hinder creative thinking and collaboration. Jamie believes that infusing play and creativity into the workplace can enhance problem-solving and overall well-being as we move away from a strict focus on efficiency and profitability. Good ideas can come from anyone, regardless of their position in the organization, and leaders should be curious and open to all ideas. In this podcast we will be talking about how to find meaning in life from the philosophy of Plato. Plato's philosophy, Platonic idealism, emphasized that genuine meaning could be found by aligning one's thoughts, actions, and life with higher principles and ideals. Plato believed that the search for true meaning and purpose was central to human existence. He believed that life's purpose wasn't merely about seeking pleasure or material gain but involved a deeper exploration of truth, virtue, and wisdom. Here are 5 ways to find meaning in life from the philosophy of Plato. 01. Move Away from distorted beliefs 02. Follow your love 03. Build the “republic” of your soul 04. Establish the power of your intellect 05. Cultivate your contemplation skills I hope you enjoyed listening to this audio and hope these 5 ways to find meaning in life from the philosophy of Plato will add value to your life. Plato is one of the most famous philosophers of all time. He represented the philosophy of ancient Greece, belonging to its Classical Period. He was born into an aristocratic and influential family in Athens, where he founded the Academy, the first institution of higher learning in the entire Western world. Along with his mentor Socrates, and his student Aristotle, Plato is one of the most influential individuals in the entire history of humankind. It can even be said that he is one of the pillars of Western civilisation. His philosophy is often referenced as Platonic idealism and his biggest contribution is the Theory of Forms or Doctrine of Ideas, which asserts that the physical world is not the real world. Instead, ultimate reality exists beyond our physical world, in the world of ideas. Plato was not only a prominent figure of philosophy, but also of religion and spirituality; so-called Neo-platonism deeply influenced Christian theology. Plato invented the written dialogue and dialectic form of philosophy. Some of his most famous books are The Republic, The Symposium, The Apology of Socrates, Allegory of the Cave and The Dialogues of Plato, in which the main character is Socrates, who influenced Plato's philosophy to a great extent. His entire work has survived for more than 2,400 years and has remained very popular the entire time. Like his mentor, Plato was a practical philosopher and there are many life lessons to learn from his philosophy.

In episode 7 of season 5, I lecture on chapter 6 from the 9th edition of Peter G. Northouse's "Leadership: Theory and Practice." During the segment, I describe the Path-Goal leadership approach, highlight the basics of how Path-Goal theory works, and conclude with strengths and criticisms of the model. Before the lecture, I was joined by Elizabeth Eder Northern for the Living Leadership segment. Liz graduated from Trinity University in 2009 with a Bachelor's degree. As an undergrad, she double majored in Religion and math, was an three time National Qualifier on the cross country team, and took full advantage of all that Trinity has to offer. She was a true Renaissance person and embraced the university's Liberal Arts ethos. After leaving Trinity she completed a Master's degree at Penn State and has served as the longtime Director of Research at Tarrant County College (TCC). In addition to being recognized by the Fort Worth Business Press with 40 Under 40 Award, Liz was also named as one of the Trinity University Alumni Association Tower 5 Award recipients in 2019. In our conversation she talks about the importance of mentors and friends, both in terms of pushing her to achieve things she never would have dreamed of and for holding each other accountable. As a leader of a team at TCC, she details the importance of hiring for complementary skill sets, helping team members maximize their strengths, and finding meaning in the work. Liz describes why setting developmental goals is good, both for the individual and the organization, and why having a leader that trusts their followers is paramount. Liz and I also talk about her successful distance running career (which isn't over!). While her accomplishments as a distance runner are wildly impressive, I hope you'll agree that her leadership approach and philosophy make her the kind of person we'd all like to work and learn with. She is a great role model for leaders everywhere. I hope you enjoy our conversation. And please, drop us a note on LinkedIn - or send me a tweet (@TingleJK) - to let us know your Take Home.
As I reflect on my journey to finding purpose and balance in life, I realize that many of us get stuck in survival mode. We're so busy trying to keep up with our responsibilities, work, family, and personal obligations that we forget to look within and explore what truly brings us meaning and fulfillment. I've learned that having a system in place is crucial to breaking free from this cycle. By creating systems for my life, I've been able to find more time, reduce stress, and focus on what truly matters - pursuing my passions and living with purpose. It's not about being a robot or following a strict routine, but about setting up the right structures and tools to support my goals and well-being. By automating, delegating, and optimizing my daily habits, I've been able to reclaim my time and energy, and find joy in the process. Takeaways: - Identify your time sinks and automate or delegate tasks to free up more time. - Design a daily routine that prioritizes purpose and reflection over external stimuli. - Create systems for reflection to look back on what went well and what didn't, and use this insight to adjust your approach. - Focus on finding your purpose, rather than just trying to be productive. #SystemFirst #PurposeFollows #TimeManagement #ProductivityHacks #FindingYourMeaning --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thirdpowerlife/support

In this podcast, we will talk about how chaos helps you find meaning in your Life from the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche. Friedrich Nietzsche was one of the main precursors of existentialism and his goal was to pave the way for “Superhuman”, an extraordinary superior and absolutely free man. Friedrich Nietzsche, in his philosophy, introduces the concept of the Übermensch, or “Overman”. It represents an individual who rises above the ordinary limitations of human existence by rejecting conventional values and creating their own. The Übermensch is someone who recognizes that life has no inherent purpose or predefined meaning but instead of being paralyzed by this realization, they embrace it as an opportunity to define their own purpose. This individual does not rely on external sources of meaning, such as religion or societal expectations, but instead takes full responsibility for their own life and the values they choose to live by. The Übermensch uses chaos as a crucial tool in this process. Chaos, in Nietzsche's view, is not something to be feared or avoided; instead, it is a source of potential and creativity. And so, they embrace the chaos of life - its unpredictability and uncertainty - as an opportunity to forge new paths and define their own purpose. By engaging with chaos in this way, the Übermensch lives authentically, finding meaning through their actions and choices in a world that offers no easy answers. We all encounter chaos, whether internally or externally, and in this video, we'll explore how chaos can help us find meaning in our own lives from the philosophy of Frederick Nietzsche. So here is how chaos helps you find meaning in your Life, according to the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche - 01. Countering Nihilism 02. Connecting Us to Our Instincts and Passions 03. Disrupting the routine 04. Unleashing Creativity 05. Living with Intention and Appreciation I hope you enjoyed watching the video and hope that this wisdom on how chaos helps you find meaning in your Life, from the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche will be helpful in your life. Friedrich Nietzsche was a German philosopher, poet, essayist, and cultural critic. He is considered to be one of the most daring and greatest thinkers of all time. His writings on truth, morality, language, aesthetics, cultural theory, history, nihilism, power, consciousness, and the meaning of existence have exerted an enormous influence on Western philosophy and intellectual history. He was one of the biggest precursors of existentialism, which emphasizes the existence of the individual person as a free and responsible agent, determining their own development through acts of will. By his famous words “God is dead!”, Nietzsche moved the focus of philosophy from metaphysics to the material world and to the individual as a responsible person for his own life. Friedrich Nietzsche wrote several books like The Birth of a Tragedy, Human, All Too Human, The Dawn, Thus Spoke Zarathustra, Beyond Good and Evil, Twilight of the Idols, The Will to Power, The Antichrist, and many more. His teachings have shaped the lives of many people; from psychologists to poets, dancers to social revolutionaries.

Hey everyone, welcome to another episode of the Small Town Entrepreneur Podcast. Today, I want to talk about something I've personally struggled with for a long time—finding meaning in those everyday tasks that feel so mundane, repetitive, or even frustrating. Whether it's washing the dishes, answering emails, or rocking your little one to sleep for what feels like forever, these tasks can take up so much of our day. They can feel like time-fillers, but I've learned (the hard way!) that there's so much more to these small moments than we realize. In this episode, I'll be sharing how you can reframe those repetitive tasks and start to see them as opportunities for creativity, inspiration, and even moments of peace. By the end of this episode, I hope you'll walk away with one or two ideas on how to bring more meaning into your daily routines. Key Takeaways: When we shift our mindset around daily tasks, we can unlock new perspectives and creativity in ways we never expected. It's in the quiet, seemingly boring moments that we can often find the greatest clarity and inspiration. Intentionally slowing down during routine tasks can not only reduce stress but also help us connect to our larger purpose. My Challenge to You: This week, I want you to choose just one task that you usually rush through—maybe it's your commute, cleaning up around the house, or sending emails—and instead, slow down. Be present. Take a moment to just breathe and reflect. See what new thoughts or ideas pop up, and how it feels to approach these moments with more intention. If you try it, I'd love to hear how it goes! Leave a review or comment, and don't forget to subscribe so we can keep diving into these topics together. We are multidimensional beings, capable of molding our character at any stage in our life. Our identity is fluid and malleable, and we can continue to evolve and enhance it to realize our highest potential. Viktor Frankl had to learn how to master this, having lived in most of the 20th century, one of the more transformative periods in world history. This Austrian psychiatrist and neurologist is most known for being a Holocaust survivor, but in reality, his contributions to mental health and psychology are his true legacy. His seminal book, "Man's Search for Meaning," and logotherapy, a psychological approach centered on meaning creation, is rooted in his observations at the concentration camps, where he witnessed unthinkable cruelty and injustice. Frankl prioritized guiding people to find their deeper purpose in good and bad times. In the process, he discovered himself and crystallized his mission. To glean wisdom from Frankl's incredible life and work, I invited Alex Pattakos, Ph.D., affectionately nicknamed "Dr. Meaning." Alex is the co-founder of the Global Meaning Institute and co-creator of MEANINGology® —the study and practice of meaning in life, work, and society. A prolific author, he has written two international best-selling books on the human quest for meaning: The OPA! Way', inspired by Greek philosophy, mythology, and culture, and 'Prisoners of Our Thoughts', written at the personal urging of Viktor Frankl himself.
