The Oil Stream

A crushing night for the Edmonton Oilers as Reilly Smith scored the game winner with 0.4 seconds left in the game to give a Vegas a 4-3 victory. In his first game since game 2 against the Kings, Stuart Skinner was up and down on the night and Leon Draisaitl fought the puck all night with two costly turnovers and deflecting the game winner into his own net.  Edmonton jumped out to 2-0 lead but the Golden Knights were the better team for most of the game and are now back in the series. The Oilers took control of the series with a 5-4 overtime win in Game 2. The Vegas Golden Knights were the better team on the night but Edmonton's dynamic duo found the opportunity in OT, with Leon Draisaitl scoring the winner. The Edmonton Oilers take a 3-2 series lead after picking up a 3-1 win in Los Angeles on Tuesday night. The Oil played their best game in months, outshooting L.A. 46-22 with Mattias Janmark scoring the winner in the third period and nuge adding the empty netter for the victory. The Edmonton Oilers are back in the series after a 4-3 overtime win on Sunday night. Once again the Oil mounted a third period comeback with Evan Bouchard scoring the tying goal with 29 seconds left in the game. Edmonton would dominate in overtime, cashing in on the power play off of Leon Draisaitl's stick. Evander Kane tied it at four late and Evan Bouchard scored the winner on the power play as the Oilers roll to a 7-4 win over the Los Angeles Kings in Game 3. Edmonton got off to a hot start, scoring two goals in the first period and took a 2-1 lead into the intermission, after that it was a rollercoaster, back and forth action in a loud Rogers Place. A questionable challenge by Kings head coach that ended up costing his team the game was the hot topic on the night. The Edmonton Oilers lose ugly in game 2, falling 6-2 to the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday night. Not a lot to like from this game, as the Oilers penalty kill struggled once again, giving up 3 goals, while Stuart Skinner did not provide a big save and was pulled in the third period. The Edmonton Oilers third period comeback fell short as Phillip Danault scored the go-ahead goal with 42 seconds left in the game to lead the Kings to a 6-5 win. Connor McDavid did not disappoint in his return to the lineup as he led the way with 3 assists in the Oilers 4-3 win over the St. Louis Blues. Connor Brown added two goals including the game winner with 21 seconds left in the game, while Vasily Podkolzin and Viktor Arvidsson added the other goals. The Oilers finished off their four-game road trip with a 3-2 loss to the Anaheim Ducks. In his debut, Olivier Rodrigue made 18 saves on the night, while Adam Henrique and Jeff Skinner socred the goals for Edmonton. The Oilers were blanked by the Los Angeles Kings 3-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Oil did not generate much offence, making it easy on Kings goaltender Darcy Kuemper. Trent Frederic made his Oilers debut, showing well in seven minutes of ice time but would miss the last 15 minutes of the game due to an apparent injury. That's three wins in a row for the Oilers as they get by the San Jose Sharks 3-2 in game two of their four-game road trip. It wasn't all good for the Oil as Leon Draisaitl left the game late in the second period due to injury and did not return. The Edmonton Oilers got back in the win column with a 3-2 OT victory over the Calgary Flames. Leon Draisaitl returned from injury to score his 50th goal of the season to tie the game late in the third and then would get the winner in overtime. It was an ugly night for the Oilers as they fall in Seattle by a score of 6-1. Zach Hyman scored the lone goal for the Oil and Calvin Pickard was pulled after 40 minutes, leading to Olivier Rodrigue getting his first taste of NHL action, playing in the third period and giving up one goal. The Oilers lost a close one on Wednesday night as the Dallas Stars held on for a 4-3 win. The Oil came on strong in the third, scoring three goals but in the end they couldn't find the equalizer. Goaltender Stuart Skinner left the game in the third period due to a head shot from Mikko Rantanen, with Kris Knoblauch saying he will not travel to Seattle in his postgame presser.  Corey Perry had some interesting things to say in his postgame interview as he was asked about the lack of response by the team on multiple shots at their goalie. The Oilers winning streak is snapped as they lose to the Winnipeg Jets 4-3 in overtime. The big news of the game was the injury to Connor McDavid as he missed the third period due to a lower-body injury which was announced by the Oilers PR staff. The Oilers win their third straight as they take it to the Utah Hockey Club by a score of 7-1. Connor McDavid, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Zach Hyman each had three points on the nights as the Oil played their best game in months. The return of Mattias Ekholm was solid and veteran goalie Calvin Pickard provided another great performance. The Oilers finished off their road trip with their best performance as they beat the New York Rangers 3-1. Viktor Arvidsson scored the winner early in the third period with captain Connor McDavid also getting on the score sheet getting the insurance goal late in the game. Stuart Skinner also bounced back, making 21 saves including an enormous stop on Mika Zibanejad. The Edmonton Oilers pick up their first win on the road trip, defeating the New York Islanders 2-1 in overtime. The Oil were much better on the night, led by the their MVP Leon Draisaitl, who scored two including the OT winner. The Oilers drop their second game of the road trip, losing 3-2 to the New Jersey Devils.
