Jason Gregor and Frank Seravalli are back with a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown as they took a look back at everything that went down over the weekend in the NHL.The big story is the end of the Oilers vs Canucks game on Saturday night as both Connor McDavid and Tyler Myers were ejected for cross-checks to the head of an opponent. Both now have hearings with the NHL DOPS, but should they be suspended the same number of games? The guys debated that and had a bigger picture conversation about the state of officiating in the league. They then got into the John Klingberg signing. Gregor gave some insight into where he could slot into the lineup and they talked about whether or not Klingberg can find his game with the Oilers. They then got into what's been going down over in the Eastern Conference. The Devils and Bruins are both slipping with the New York Rangers starting to find their game. They talked about the recent hot streak for New York and dug into some of their concerns with what's happening in New Jersey. That led to some conversation about the Simon Nemec comments. He didn't ask for a trade, but he wants to play in the NHL and the Devils have a loaded right-side of their blueline. Could something give there? Frank gave his thoughts. They also talked about Kappo Kakko's hot start to his Kraken career. The guys had a contentious debate a few weeks ago when the trade first went down so they revisited their conversation and their thoughts on the deal.Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Fill in the Blank where he asked the guys about best fits for JT Miller, the playoff chances for the Montreal Canadiens, and whether or not Jeff Skinner will finish out the year in Edmonton. They wrapped with some talk about potential injury replacements for the 4 Nations Faceoff with guys like Jason Robertson and Zach Hyman both shooting the lights out.1:10 - McDavid & Myers face hearings14:40 - John Klingberg signs in Edmonton17:55 - Eastern playoff picture20:50 - Concern in New Jersey?32:30 - Kakko & The Kraken35:40 - Fill in the Blank (JT Miller, Habs playoff chances, Skinner in Edmonton)47:00 - 4 Nations Injury ReplacementsWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? The New Jersey Devils have now set their 23-man roster for opening night. There weren't that many surprising moves but still a lot of speculation in regards to Simon Nemec. Jesper Bratt and Brendan Smith shared their thoughts heading into the new year. It was a young display in the last tune-up as Simon Nemec, Tyce Thompson and the young prospects for New Jersey saw plenty of ice-time. Simon Nemec showed off exactly why he has a bright future, picking up his second goal of camp.; There was however plenty to watch from a regular season standpoint as Akira Schmid gave a mid-season performance, turning away several critical shots. Nate Bastian also got himself more run as he looks to work himself back into form. Adam highlights the successful Penalty Kill Unit's and Curtis Lazar's continued versatility. Should Simon Nemec watch from the bench, or get reps in the AHL? Thatt is the debate between Danny and Adam. They look at the play of Smith and Miller and disagree on where the best value should be for Simon Nemec. On Offense, camp has shown exactly why Curtis Lazar was picked up last season, a grinding full effort guy the Devils want on that fourth line. The question now, will Nocek be locked into the starting role - Or could Tyce Thompson and Nolan Foote make a case for a NHL spot? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

A few days ago, the Buffalo Sabres hosted their Prospects Challenge and the New Jersey Devils participated in it. Second overall pick (2022) Simon Nemec was named an alternate captain by head coach Kevin Dineen. Despite the amount of minutes he played, somebody on social media called Nemec out for his "lackluster" performance. Dawson Mercer's little brother, Riley, also participated in the Prospects Challenge and turned a lot of heads. Finally, Timo Meier made a big change before the start of the season.
