We have many thoughts about the World Series including loving a Game Seven which had all the things except the result we wanted. Ernie Clement was the center of it all, Freddie couldn't stop with the walk offs, Yamamoto earned that MVP, we got a bench clearing kerfuffle, Will Smith took another big swing, and we had multiple chances to talk about just how much time Shohei should be taking. The TOR bullpen joined the LAD in showing support for Alex Vesia. Vladdy honored Captain Clutch, Marie Philip Poulin, but was unable to channel her magic. Congrats to Pookie for winning the Roberto Clemente award. ICE cooled off ticket sales and caused the plug to be pulled on the LIDOM showcase at Citifield, but the DR/PR all stars may still be on. The MLBPA flushed out a mole. And we give Max the last word on the season. We say, “I'm doing numerology in my head,” “a tax on people who can't do math,” and, “I'll cheers with my Canadian little whiskey here.” Fight the man, send your game balls to Meredith, get boosted, and find us on Bluesky @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com. World Series Game SevenLos Angeles Dodgers @ Toronto Blue JaysThe best FOUR words in sports, WORLD SERIES GAME SEVEN. The Dodgers survived in game six thanks to another spectacular Yoshinobu Yamamoto performance and a clutch breakout from Mookie Betts. For the first time since 2019, the Fall Classic will come down to a decisive game seven. It has been an incredible series so far, with historic and record setting performances on both sides. Vlad Guerrero, Jr. and Ernie Clement could set the all time single season playoff hits record, Louie Garland could set a record for games pitched, and if this game is close at the end, we could be in for things we've never seen before.Starting for the Blue Jays will be the man who started the last World Series game seven, Max Scherzer. At 41 years old, Mad Max will be the oldest pitcher to start a winner-take-all game, and he becomes just the fourth pitcher to start multiple World Series game sevens (Bob Gibson, Don Larsen, and Lew Burdette). Going on short rest will be Shohei Ohtani, but expect all hands on deck for both squads, as there is no tomorrow. And by all hands, that will mean nearly every starting pitcher from both teams, including Yamamoto on no rest. Tune in for what may be the greatest game seven every played.Toronto Radio SN590 - Ben Shulman and Chris LerouxLos Angeles Radio AM570 - Stephen Nelson and Rick MondayFOX On Field - Ken Rosenthal, Tom Verducci, Kevin BurkhardtAudio clips from MLB.tvAs always, thank you to Baseball Reference and SABR for statistics, box scores, background information, and much, much more.Catch you next time,P.C.O.

Steve and Devin went live for Episode 114 as the 2025 World Series reached its epic conclusion — an all-time classic that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers repeat as champions after an 11-inning thriller in Toronto. The Dodgers outlasted the Blue Jays 5–4 in Game 7 at Rogers Centre, capturing their second straight World Series title and becoming baseball's first repeat champions since the 2000 Yankees. Will Smith provided the decisive swing, crushing a solo home run in the top of the 11th off Shane Bieber to put L.A. ahead for good. Yoshinobu Yamamoto, pitching on zero days' rest, recorded the final five outs to secure the championship — his third win of the series and fifth of the postseason. Toronto struck first behind Bo Bichette's three-run homer off Shohei Ohtani in the third inning, but the Dodgers clawed back. Max Muncy's solo blast in the eighth made it 4–3, and Miguel Rojas tied the game in the ninth with one of the most dramatic home runs in World Series history — a 357-foot shot off Jeff Hoffman that silenced the sold-out Rogers Centre. From there, both teams traded blows. Toronto's defense shined, with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. turning a critical 3–6–3 double play and Andy Pages making a collision catch to save the game in the ninth. But the Dodgers' relentlessness proved too much. Smith, who caught every inning of the series — 1,054 pitches in total — came through in the 11th, cementing his place among postseason legends. Yamamoto's performance closed the door on a postseason for the ages: 5–0 with a 1.63 ERA. The Dodgers, deep, disciplined, and battle-tested, once again found the right answers when it mattered most. Steve and Devin also broke down the incredible October run of Ernie Clement — whose 30 hits set a new single-postseason record — and the historic implications of Yamamoto joining Randy Johnson (2001) as the only pitchers in the last 57 years to win three games in one World Series. World Series Recap Games One and TwoLos Angeles Dodgers (93-69) @ Toronto Blue Jays (94-68)The Fall Classic has begun in Canada, with the Blue Jays hosting the Dodgers for the first two games of the World Series. With George Springer's epic homer in Game Seven against Seattle, Toronto captured its first AL Pennant in 32 years. Vlad Guerrero, Jr. took home ALCS MVP honors, while Alejandro Kirk and Ernie Clement racked up a ton of hits throughout the series. There is no let up in manager John Schneider's lineup. And they should see an additional boost, as star infielder Bo Bichette returns to the team after missing thprevious two rounds with an injury. The Dodgers look to defend their World Series crown as they rolled through the NLCS against Milwaukee, thanks in large part to their outstanding starting pitching. Blake Snell, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow, and Shohei Ohtani combined for 28.2 innings, 35 strike outs, just nine hits, six walks, and two runs allowed across four games. The task will be much greater against this deep Toronto offense, and if the starters aren't as effective, Dave Roberts will be forced to turn to a much maligned bullpen (which will be without their best lefty, Alex Vesia, due to an unfortunate family emergency.) Shohei Ohtani has appeared to break out of his postseason slump with a 3 homer day in game four (not to mention six shutout innings and ten strikeouts on the mound!). The rest of the offense has done enough to get by, but they'll likely need more from the likes of Freddie Freeman, Will Smith, Max Muncy, and the “Brothers Hernández”.In Game One, the youngster Trey Yesavage will take on Blake Snell. Yesavage is making just his seventh career start (and 4th of the postseason), and he's the second youngest to ever get a game one start (Ralph Branca for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947!). Blake Snell has been absolutely dominant, but he relies on hitters to chase outside the zone, which these Blue Jays avoid better than anyone. For Game Two, expect a lot of splitters as Kevin Gausman and Yoshinobu Yamamoto face off. Gausman has been the Blue Jays best pitcher in these playoffs so far, but it will be tough to match the Japanese star. With the first complete game in the playoffs since 2017, Yamamoto looks to have the first complete game in the World Series in a decade, and he would the first with consecutive complete games since 2004. Tune in for what should be an excellent series!Toronto Radio SN590 - Ben Shulman and Chris LerouxLos Angeles Radio AM570 - Stephen Nelson and Rick MondayAudio clips from MLB.tvAs always, thank you to Baseball Reference and SABR for statistics, box scores, background information, and much, much more.Catch you next time,P.C.O.

The fans also sent a firm message to Shohei Ohtani when he came to bat in the ninth inning, chanting, "We don't need you!" The Jays exploded for the biggest single inning in a World Series game since 1968, scoring nine runs in the sixth. Bo Bichette, playing for the first time in seven weeks, started that inning with a walk. Ernie Clement gave the Jays the lead with an RBI single three batters later and later still, Addison Barger clubbed the first-ever pinch-hit grand slam in World Series history. Guest: Ernie Clement That was a tough loss. The Jays did what they needed to do in Seattle by winning two out of three to ensure they come back to Toronto with a chance to advance to the World Series (where the winner of the ALCS will face the Dodgers, who beat the Brewers Friday night). But the Jays will have to win both Game 6 on Sunday and Game 7 on Monday. It felt like the Blue Jays were on the cusp of winning this one but in the bottom of the 8th inning, up 2-1, John Schneider went to Brendon Little, who gave up a home run to Cal Raleigh to tie it 2-2, before the wheels came completely off.  We hear from Ernie Clement in the clubhouse after the game.  As always, we'll open up the mailbag at deepleftfield@thestar.ca.

Patti and Pottymouth have entered the “there's always next year” phase of mourning Wildcard losses and have moved on to pondering such issues as “The Blue Jays wouldn't have to visit the White House.” In our hearts we are simultaneously rooting for a SEA/MIL WS matchup and knocking on all the wood. In our “made it to postseason” boyfriend world we have elder statesmen counseling the kids, Ernie and Jackson lighting things up, and Ben Fricking Rice. In our Police Blotter: Fans Behaving Badly, we have BOS fans harassing Cam Schlittler's family online, and the man LIVES in Boston. He seemed to channel his reaction constructively. Although ARAMARK delights PHI fans with its 9-9-9 box of moderation and thematic treats like Bader Tots, it's really quite a corporate horror with its retaliation against unionized ballpark workers and its contract with approximately 100 detention centers. On a related note, LAD majority owner Mark Walter has profited handsomely from enormous private prison contracts with ICE as well as connections to technology tracking immigrants. We salute Seattle mayoral candidate Katie Wilson, who has a platform we can get behind even before she crosstrains with the Mariners in her campaign slogan, “The Big Dumper's City Needs Public Bathrooms.” Pottymouth would very much like you to read Immigration Detention Inc., The Big Business of Locking Up Immigrants, Nancy Hiemstra & Diedre Conlon. We say, “Sympathy wooze,” “porn management,” and “the burrito came in later.” Fight the man, send your game balls to Meredith, get boosted, and find us on Bluesky @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com. The Blue Jays spent the weekend in Los Angeles almost getting swept by the defending World Series champions and the drama was so far through the roof that a bonus episode of Deep Left Field was required so we could all process it. From the high of a club-record 45 runs scored over three games in Colorado to just two runs combined in the first two games at Dodger Stadium and just two more through the first seven innings of the series finale, questions were starting to pop up about the Jays, despite them having the American League's best record. A Sunday loss would leave them with only five wins in their last 14 games - three of them against the worst team in the game. Was the air starting to come out of the balloon? Was the Jays' record a mirage? Can we actually not have nice things in Toronto? Home runs by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Addison Barger gave the Jays a late lead, but closer Jeff Hoffman gave it right back with a bases loaded walk, then walked three more in the ninth after Ernie Clement went deep to give the Jays yet another lead. Mason Fluharty, the youngest pitcher on the staff, had to bail Hoffman out, and did he ever. We go through all of it for you here in Deep Left Field - what happened, what it means, and who does what going forward as the Jays move into the final 43 games of the season.
