Shohei Ohtani and Ernie Clement were their leagues' top vote-getters in Phase 1 of All-Star Game balloting to secure starting spots, and finalists for the other positions were announced with Phase 2 of voting beginning Monday at noon ET. The latest round of voting for the 2026 MLB All-Star Game was recently released, and while Shohei Ohtani unsurprisingly leads all players in votes, there is someone on the American League side who is just 300,000 votes away from matching the Los Angeles Dodgers superstar. The shocking part is that it's not Aaron Judge or Yordan Alvarez, but rather Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Ernie Clement. On this episode of Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman discuss the sudden surge in support for the standout player from the Blue Jays' World Series run last season and why Ernie Clement is garnering so much fan support. They then take a look at another second baseman making waves: Jazz Chisholm Jr., who was caught playing the field with a lollipop in his mouth, drawing the ire of manager Aaron Boone. Later, Jake and Jordan are joined by Miami Marlins play-by-play broadcaster Jack McMullen to discuss the Tartan Army's invasion of Miami, what the experience was like during games and a couple of players who should be headed to the Midsummer Classic in Philadelphia. The guys then wrap up the show by discussing the disappointing press conference held by San Francisco Giants President of Baseball Operations Buster Posey, recapping the College World Series championship game and highlighting a wild matchup between the Philadelphia Phillies and Washington Nationals. 1:35 - The Opener: Surprising All-Star Game voting update 9:56 - Jazz Chisholm Jr. & the lollipop 19:35 - Jack McMullen joins the show 45:05 - We Need To Talk About: Buster Posey press conference 1:01:02 - College World Series recap 1:06:36 - Wild game in Washington Subscribe to Baseball Bar-B-Cast on your favorite podcast app:

The Blue Jays continue to tread water, bobbing up and down in the murky waters of a comprehensively underperforming American League. And though they seem to have a Max Scherzer problem on their hands, they'll soon have a catching problem on their hands, and they definitely have Vlad- and Springer-sized problems on their hands, overall, things could certainly be a whole lot worse. And this week we're talking about all of that, plus some love for Alejandro Kirk and Ernie Clement, the official removal of Jesús Sánchez from Bumwatch (TM), and more!

Jeff Blair and Kevin Barker look back on the Toronto Blue Jays' weekend series win over the Cleveland Guardians. They discuss Max Scherzer's inconsistent start, the bullpen hierarchy without a clearly defined closer, Kazuma Okamoto's improvements, the next steps for Jesús Sánchez, and Ernie Clement's play in the lead-off spot. Then, Red Sox reporter Rob Bradford stops by (30:14) to discuss why Boston decided to fire manager Alex Cora and overhaul their coaching staff before May, the ups and downs on the mound, and potential further consequences if they can't turn it around this season. Sho Alli and Nick Ashbourne break down the Blue Jays' 5-3 win over the Guardians to even the series at one game apiece! They take your calls and texts, and get to the second career save for Louis Varland, who (despite some traffic) slammed the door to wrap up the win - why is the ninth inning so different for relievers? They get into Kazuma Okamoto's big game, including a home run and a bases loaded walk - if he can look like this more consistently, what could that do for the offence? Plus, they discuss Kevin Gausman's 6.2 IP of two-run ball, Ernie Clement continuing to churn out hits, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s lack of home run production. Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider (2:20) joins Jeff Blair and Kevin Barker to share some injury updates on George Springer, Trey Yesavage and more, why he isn't definitive on who he's bringing out in the 9th inning, Louis Varland's increase high-leverage workload, what adjustments he'd like to see from Kazuma Okamoto's at-bats, if he sees remnants of the 2025 Jays' identity on their recent road trip, Ernie Clement's contact rate, and Brandon Valenzuela's adjustment to the Majors. Then, the guys hear from GM and VP Ross Atkins on the team's start to the 2026 season and Jeff Hoffman not being designated as their closer. Afterwards, The Athletic's Jayson Stark stops by (33:38) to discuss the state of the Phillies, their president declaring manager Rob Thomson is not on the hot seat, if fans could dictate his future, and why the New York Yankees could be a real threat to the L.A. Dodgers. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.
Ben Ennis and Brent Gunning open Thursday by recapping the Blue Jays' loss to the Angels in their series finale. The boys get into Eric Lauer's start and his uncertain role as the team gets healthier, road trip reflections, Ernie Clement's spot near the top of the lineup, and ongoing questions about Kazuma Okamoto's development as a hitter. They also discuss the possibility of Jeff Hoffman losing the closer role and what the ninth inning might look like later in the season. After the break, they shift to the NHL playoffs, focusing on the Oilers' now tied series and Connor McDavid's quiet start, before touching on Flyers vs. Penguins and what it all means for Sidney Crosby. They close the hour with comments from Juan Soto on supporting the Mets during his injury. Jeff Blair and Kevin Barker break down the Blue Jays' 7-3 loss vs. the Angels to wrap up the road trip in California. They take your calls and texts, and get into the outing from Eric Lauer - was there anything to the tape that was on his neck amidst a low-velo start? What does the future look like for Lauer with reinforcements on their way for both the rotation and bullpen? They also discuss the offence, as Nathan Lukes and Ernie Clement both played starring roles in the seventh inning - can they keep this up? Plus, they discuss Braydon Fisher's late meltdown, the roles of both Louis Varland and Jeff Hoffman, and the ongoing development of Kazuma Okamoto.
