178 - Feel Their Pain And Connect In this podcast episode, I talk about the book What's in It for Them?: 9 Genius Networking Principles to Get What You Want by Helping Others Get What They Want By Joe Polish. We explore the importance of understanding people's unique circumstances, which the author calls "atmospheric conditions." As a "pain detective", he says we have to investigate what's genuinely causing people to suffer in their job or daily life. This helps provide better support and build stronger connections with them. By reducing their suffering, we can make their lives better and form collaborative relationships.Authenticity is key in all our interactions. People can detect inauthenticity quickly. That's why we should always strive to be genuinely interested in solving people's problems. It's not about using skills to gain something in return. It's about building trust, rapport, and comfort with others.Atmospheric conditions refer to understanding the conditions of someone's life to understand better why they behave the way they do. If someone's going through a tough time at home, it will affect their performance at work. Understanding this can help someone react more appropriately and empathetically towards them, providing better support. In all our relationships, communication is key. We can choose to communicate and resolve issues, connect and form a bond, or avoid the situation altogether. That's why it's crucial to notice if people are leaning in or pulling back, connecting or disconnecting. Ultimately, understanding people better can help us build stronger, more authentic connections. https://geniusnetwork.com https://startwithsmallsteps.com/?p=3854 Jill's Links https://abetterlifeinsmallsteps.com https://affiliate.notion.so/NorthwoodsJill https://affiliate.notion.so/NorthwoodsAI https://www.youtube.com/@startwithsmallstepspodcast https://www.buymeacoffee.com/smallstepspod https://twitter.com/SmallStepsPod Email the podcast at jill@startwithsmallsteps.com

In today's episode, hosts Scott Donnell and Chad Willardson discuss why you must create a home environment similar to what your kids will find in the real world. Scott starts the conversation by describing when and how parents should start preparing their kids for the real world. Chad reveals the most important lesson he learned growing up. As a parent, your kids need to know that play never comes before work. We work first, and the rewards come later. For Scott, the worst thing you could ever do as a parent is to raise your kids in a bubble. Scott and Chad explore ways parents can create a home economy that mirrors the real world. Give your kids love and show them that you care, but don't protect them from struggle and sacrifice. Scott and Chad agree that we need to raise kids two years older than they are. Teach them the future and give them responsibility earlier than what society says their age deserves. Scott describes how mimicking the environment of the real world at home will do your kids a lot of good in the future. According to Scott, you're not loving your kids more by cuddling and pampering them. You're just preparing them for shock and failure once they leave the nest. For Scott, your kids will become entitled when they get whatever they want without working for it. Shockingly, 80 to 90% of parents never make their kids pay for anything. According to Scott, kids need to start covering some of their expenses from age six to eight.      Mentioned in This Episode: gravystack.com/smart smartmoneyparenting.com What's in It for Them?: 9 Genius Networking Principles to Get What You Want by Helping Others Get What They Want by Joe Polish Smart, Not Spoiled: The 7 Money Skills Kids Must Master Before Leaving the Nest by Chad Willardson Value Creation Kid: The Healthy Struggles Your Children Need to Succeed by Scott Donnell and Lee Benson Scott Donnell on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/donnell-scott Chad Willardson on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/chadwillardson Scott Donnell on Instagram - @imscottdonnell Chad Willardson on Instagram - @chad.willardson Scott Donnell on TikTok - @imscottdonnellThe podcast and artwork embedded on this page are from by Gravy Stack, which is the property of its owner and not affiliated with or endorsed by Listen Notes, Inc.

Podcast: Smart Money Parenting (LS 40 · TOP 1.5% what is this?)Episode: Chase Purpose, Not MoneyPub date: 2023-06-13Is having a purpose in life more important than chasing money? In today's episode, hosts Scott Donnell and Chad Willardson discuss why you need to help your kids find their purpose and the financial rewards of chasing purpose instead of money. Chad and Scott start the conversation by talking about their life's mission and why it has never been about making money - all they want is to help parents raise amazing kids. According to Scott, purpose is greater than money. People need a purpose more than they need money. For Chad, if you're chasing money without a purpose, you're going to be empty, unfulfilled, and unsuccessful. Chad and Scott agree that when you chase purpose and get people on board with that mission, the abundance and financial rewards are unlimited. Giving your kids an allowance without making them work for it makes them grow up thinking they deserve a bunch of free stuff from the world. Scott describes how money cannot make you happy. He knows many rich people who are wealthy but too miserable to enjoy life. It's easy to spot someone who is just chasing money without purpose; they don't care about impact and don't care about people. Chad is convinced that throwing money at people's problems will not solve anything. They are not going to be happier, and they're probably going to spend their way back to being broke. The point of life is not just to get rich. The point of life is to find purpose and find ways to love. According to Scott, you have to chase purpose more than you chase financial rewards. Financial rewards come after you find your purpose and become valuable. Chad and Scott agree that it's hard to make money. You can only do it through hard work, discipline, and creating value. Chad talks about finding your mission and how doing what you were born to do will ultimately lead to financial rewards. Scott reveals the trilogy of finding your purpose - these are the things you love, the things you're good at, and finding ways to solve other people's needs.     Mentioned in This Episode: gravystack.com/smart smartmoneyparenting.com smartmoneyparenting.com/followus What's in It for Them?: 9 Genius Networking Principles to Get What You Want by Helping Others Get What They Want by Joe Polish Smart, Not Spoiled: The 7 Money Skills Kids Must Master Before Leaving the Nest by Chad Willardson Value Creation Kid: The Healthy Struggles Your Children Need to Succeed by Scott Donnell and Lee Benson Scott Donnell on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/donnell-scott Chad Willardson on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/chadwillardson Scott Donnell on Instagram - @imscottdonnell Chad Willardson on Instagram - @chad.willardson Scott Donnell on TikTok - @imscottdonnellThe podcast and artwork embedded on this page are from by Gravy Stack, which is the property of its owner and not affiliated with or endorsed by Listen Notes, Inc.

It's been a while, but I'm back on the podcast to share an amazing interview with my longtime friend, Joe Polish. Joe is recognized as the most connected person on the planet, and today you're going to find out why! In case you're unfamiliar, Joe Polish is an author, speaker, podcaster, entrepreneur, and Founder of Genius Network®, which is considered one of the most exclusive entrepreneurial masterminds in the world. While Joe has seen wild success throughout his career and is known for his ability to connect deeply with others, that wasn't always his story. In fact, before he ever crushed it in business, he was a dead broke carpet cleaner, and his struggles with trauma and addiction led to a very disconnected life. Only after getting sober did he take the time to learn how to form genuine relationships with others. For 30+ years, Joe has been putting his approach to building rapport into practice, allowing him to surround himself with the most successful people imaginable—and now he's ready to teach YOU how to do the same. In our conversation, we dive into his new book, What's in It for Them?: 9 Genius Networking Principles to Get What You Want by Helping Others Get What They Want. You'll learn about the power of reciprocity, the importance of treating yourself like a million-dollar racehorse, how to cut out toxic relationships, why being a giver (instead of a taker) is more important than ever, and much more! In this session, here's what we cover: Why Joe wrote his new book, What's in It for Them? How to win the right friends and influence the right people (an update to Dale Carnegie's legendary teaching). How to set your life up to be a lot more E.L.F (easy, lucrative, fun) and a lot less H.A.L.F (hard, annoying, lame, frustrating). The secret to why Joe Polish is the most connected human being on the planet. How to act like a "pain detective" and make more money by transforming other people's bad news into good news. How do you know if you're investing your time and energy in the wrong relationships? Learn to deepen rapport and connect with others by identifying and reducing their suffering. The story of when Joe used the What's In It For Them framework to win over Sir Richard Branson. The power of the 6-week sabbatical and how to use it to destroy anything in your life that isn't excellent. How can you connect with yourself, so you can better connect with others? Why life gives to the giver and takes from the taker.
