What happens when you stop trying to be “good” and start listening to your body? In this intimate and eye-opening conversation, Aideen welcomes back empowerment coach Julie Vander Meulen to explore the hidden rules of Good Girl Syndrome—how it frays our nervous systems, shapes our relationships, and quietly erodes our joy.Through real stories and practical, compassionate tools, Julie shares how a single word like“ouch” can soften conflict, why pausing to feel fear can change the entire direction of a conversation, and how circling back later can repair moments where panic once shut everything down. Together, we dig into the deeper roots: why so many of us confuse praise with love, why criticism can feel like exile, and how gentle self-acceptance practices can rebuild inner safety.Julie offers grounded rituals for reclaiming your worth: mirror moments, affectionate self-talk, and giving yourself rest without permission slips. We challenge achievement as the measure of value and offer a truer anchor: your essence is worthy by existing. From that truth, your voice softens, your boundaries strengthen, and connection becomes a place of honesty rather than performance. And then there's joy. Joy as a practice, not a prize. If happiness feels far away, begin with a memory of laughter and let your body remember. Reclaim small delights you once dismissed as unproductive: music that moves you, simple meals, playful imitation. In a world that hurts, joy isn't denial—it's fuel. When we allow ourselves to feel fully and show up fully, we become safer for each other. If this conversation resonates, subscribe, share it with someone who needs permission to be imperfect, and leave a review so more people can find their way back to their own voice. Have you ever wondered whether your biggest roadblock is not the idea itself, but the way people see you before you ever open your mouth? This week, we take a very human turn on the Innovation Storytellers Show as I sit down with Lirone Glikman, CEO, global business development leader, and the author behind The Super Connectors Playbook.  Lirone has spent two decades helping people understand something many of us overlook. Your brand is already setting the tone for every meeting, every pitch, and every moment when you try to move an innovation forward. Our conversation moves from the deeply personal to the highly practical. Lirone shares how she teaches leaders to understand the strengths and values that truly define them, how to find the gap between who you believe you are and how others read you, and why authenticity paired with strategy is the foundation for any successful relationship at work.  My guest explains her six-pillar approach to becoming a super connector, and shows how innovators can use these principles to navigate corporate silos, involve the right allies early, and communicate with greater clarity and presence. Her stories bring workplace dynamics to life, from collaborating with overloaded teams to protecting your ideas in rooms where voices can be overshadowed. We also talk about the future. Lirone offers a candid view on how AI is reshaping personal branding, how to use these tools without losing your human signature, and why relationships remain the real currency inside complex organisations. For listeners working in innovation, product, or transformation roles, this conversation provides the language to understand your place in the system and the practical steps to raise your visibility intentionally. So the question becomes, what story is your brand telling before you even enter the room, and how ready are you to shape it with purpose?

Most of us are reluctant to be vulnerable with others. We view our flaws and mistakes as faults, and weaknesses. We don't want to be ignored, or dismissed. We fear rejection. Yet, perfect love – God's love for us, in us and through us – removes fear. We are freed to be real, authentic people who pursue God and others. People need to know that are loved – right where they are. Right now. Only by being honest and real, will others feel safe and be willing to risk being loved, trusting love, accepting love. Authentic faith in Jesus is marked by three key characteristics: obedience to His commands, living like Jesus, and loving others. True obedience flows from love rather than obligation, showing evidence of genuine faith rather than earning salvation. Living like Jesus isn't about perfect imitation but about abiding in Him and allowing Christ to transform us from within. The command to love others is both ancient and revolutionary, as Jesus redefined love by His own example of sacrificial care for all people. These marks aren't about achieving perfection but about staying connected to Jesus and allowing Him to produce authentic spiritual fruit in our lives.

This episode equips listeners with actionable strategies to connect authentically, strengthen teams, and lead with influence rooted in care.Drawing from Christian Simpson's insight, "When building rapport, we are conveying to others, 'I'm like you, so it's okay for you to like me,'" Mack explains how relating to others—through shared language, actions, and appearance—creates safety and openness. However, Mack stresses that true rapport begins with sincere intent and unconditional care for the other person. In the demanding world of blue-collar work, where quick connections can make or break teams, Mack shares how genuine concern transcends superficial differences, allowing leaders to foster deep, instant bonds that people feel immediately.Mack delves into practical ways to build trust through consistent "deposits," from simple gestures like calling someone by name or offering a pat on the back, to larger acts like believing in a teammate's potential or providing real help in tough times.Mack warns against manipulative intent, emphasizing that people intuitively sense when care is authentic versus self-serving.For blue-collar leaders, Mack outlines how to make ongoing trust deposits without expecting withdrawals, creating resilient relationships that withstand inevitable setbacks.

Welcome back to The Ripple Effect Podcast! I'm so glad you're here for this solo episode. Think of it like we're sitting down over coffee, swapping stories about life, relationships, creativity, and yes, even some of the messy stuff we all go through. This episode will be a Q&A session, where I will answer some questions posed to me by Ripplers. Lately, I've been diving into some fantastic books. I'm making my way through Ryan Holiday's books, and I've been taking notes like crazy from Play Bigger. It's such a powerful read on category design, becoming a market leader, and finding your unique value proposition. On the music side, my heart is full, thanks to Bruce Springsteen's Lost Tracks Box set (unreleased songs that are pure magic!), and I've fallen down the rabbit hole with Charlie Parker's jazz albums. I've been loving podcasts like The Tim Ferriss Show, Clear + Vivid by Alan Alda, and Founders. But this episode isn't just about books and music. I'll let you in on my life as a caregiver for my 90-year-old dad, and how I've been handling the stress that comes with it. Spoiler: it hasn't been easy. But leaning into creativity has made all the difference. In particular, journaling, writing on my vintage typewriter, block printing, woodworking, and even baseball card collecting have brought me peace, joy, and a sense of fun. More than anything, this conversation is about finding ways to build authentic relationships, work through stress as an entrepreneur, and lean on faith when life feels uncertain. It's about discovering those small things that create positive Ripples for yourself and the people around you. One Community Away from Success: The Power of Authentic Relationships explores how many of us suffer from relational poverty in today's isolated world. Despite financial stability, we often lack the meaningful connections God designed us to have. This message examines why we've become relationally poor: our transient lifestyles, isolating modern conveniences, and the illusion of connection through social media. Learn how the voice of true connection can overcome the lie of independence, and discover that what you need isn't always a miracle but margin for community in your life. Based on principles from Acts 2, discover three qualities of authentic community: open doors where people can be themselves, environments where vulnerability about brokenness leads to healing, and groups that fight for each other against spiritual attacks. Find practical steps to build meaningful relationships, overcome past hurts, and experience the success and fulfillment that comes through genuine community.

"Have you ever wondered if that family relationship you've given up on could still be healed?"Dr. Joshua Coleman shares his devastating personal journey through years of separation from his daughter. His initial defensiveness and need to be right nearly destroyed their relationship permanently. "I'd like to talk about a particularly challenging case today. It's me," he told his consultant. The breakthrough came when he learned to stop explaining and start empathizing. This painful transition became his life's mission: helping families bridge seemingly impossible divides through curiosity, vulnerability, and authentic connection.Coleman reveals the critical difference between modern psychological parenting and previous generations. Today's parents face higher expectations but often lack the emotional tools their children need. "Life is much more fragile than I imagined," he reflects, describing how estrangement changes your entire worldview. His practical guidance centers on "letters of amends"—finding truth in children's complaints rather than defending against them. For adult children, he emphasizes starting with connection goals, not blame. Can broken family bonds be repaired? Coleman's work proves healing is possible when both sides choose curiosity over being right.Dr. Joshua Coleman is a psychologist in private practice in the San Francisco Bay Area and Senior Fellow with the Council on Contemporary Families. A frequent Today Show and NPR guest, he's appeared on Good Morning America, Dr. Phil, Sesame Street, and 20/20, with features in The New Yorker and TIME Magazine. He's authored four books including "Rules of Estrangement: Why Adult Children Cut Ties and How to Heal the Conflict." Coleman writes for major publications like The New York Times, The Atlantic, and The Wall Street Journal. His team and him are focused on helping people find the work they love. He's also the author of the book, Happen to Your Career: An Unconventional Approach to Career Change and Meaningful Work*. You've been laid off, or someone close to you is navigating that reality right now. A lot of the first things we think to do after a layoff are wrong. In this episode, Scott and I explore what to avoid…and more importantly, where to begin anew. Key Points Most people underestimate the time it takes to mean a transition to the next, right position. Submitting tons of applications, networking everywhere, and telling everyone that you're looking feels productive, but is often either incomplete or a waste of time. Give yourself the space to grieve. Spend time with the people who care about you. This didn't happen to you, it happened for you. Whether objectively true or not, this mindset will help you be intentional about next actions. Hyperfocus your targeting by creating a master resume and also considering backdoors to opportunities. Decide when to hire help by using math – how much will expertise help speed up the process and/or help you land a higher salary?
