The Business of Meetings – Episode 256: Own Your Success: How to Stay Accountable and Get Results with Eric Rozenberg Today, Eric dives into the importance of accountability in achieving success. Drawing from his past experiences, he highlights the transformative power of accountability in driving exceptional results. Example from Student Days: Planning vs. Execution There is a huge difference between creating a study plan and executing a study plan with accountability. To illustrate the importance of staying committed to goals despite external temptations, Eric shares a personal anecdote from his student days in Belgium, explaining how he planned for his exams meticulously but still got distracted by a tennis championship. Leadership at ISEC: Board Accountability Eric learned the value of accountability through regular board meetings in his leadership role at ISEC. Working with an advisory board of senior executives from Fortune 100 companies, he and his team were tasked with presenting updates on their progress, addressing challenges, and aligning their efforts with the goals of the organization. Knowing that he had to answer to various high-level stakeholders, the quarterly meetings motivated him to stay focused and deliver results, reinforcing the importance of continuous self-assessment and course correction in achieving success. Business Leadership: Advisory Boards and Self-Accountability Eric applied the lessons he learned at ISEC about accountability to his entrepreneurial journey in his quarterly meetings with advisors, industry experts, and professionals from unrelated fields. Through those regular meetings and openly sharing his successes and challenges, he ensured that he remained focused on his goals and made informed decisions. That strengthened his businesses and highlighted the importance of transparency and external perspectives in maintaining accountability and driving growth. Farren shares his unique journey, detailing his late entry into the army at 27, the challenges he faced, and how his military experience shaped his mindset and career. The discussion delves into the evolving culture of the military, the importance of physical fitness, and the impact of social media on personal branding and business growth. Farren also opens up about his upcoming challenge of completing a 1,000-mile trek with a weighted backpack to raise funds for veterans, emphasising the significance of giving back to the community Key Takeaways The mindset developed in sports, particularly boxing, can be applied to various aspects of life, including business, family, and social interactions. Joining the army later in life (at 27) provided valuable lessons in discipline, physical fitness, and camaraderie, which have influenced personal and professional growth. There is a concern about the dilution of physical fitness standards in the military, with an emphasis on the importance of being in shape for leadership roles. Building a strong social media presence has allowed for the expansion of a coaching business, reaching clients globally and promoting a healthy lifestyle. BEST MOMENTS "I believe that the Army has given me a better mindset... through the hardship, through physical training and all through the camaraderie." "I think a lot of people got into the military that shouldn't necessarily be there... I don't think they should be leading guys into any kind of scenario." "When I think about the army, you think about that slogan, be the best... it doesn't matter whether you get shot at, you go out there and do your thing." "A high percentage... well over 75% of everything that you see online, someone's taking some kind of performance enhancing drug." Quick recap Summary CEO and Michael's Conversational Meeting Michael and Rasmus discussed their work and expectations for the meeting. Rasmus, the CEO of Sensai, a global Human Success Company, expressed his readiness to engage in a challenging and interesting conversation. Michael, looking forward to the conversation, mentioned that the meeting could last anywhere from 15 to 25 minutes and would be organic and conversational. Rasmus' Career Journey and Global Experiences Rasmus shared his career journey, which included living in Luxembourg and Silicon Valley and relocating his family, including their horse, from California to Denmark. He explained that there is an industry that moves horses around, even in first-class business class. Rasmus discussed his experiences after returning to Denmark after living abroad for 14 years, noting that it felt like moving backward and that he had become more aware of how the world works and how life is in different areas. He also mentioned his extensive travels and pride in being a global citizen. Michael agreed, adding that even when returning to one's hometown, it can feel like a new place due to changes over time. Investing in Employee Growth and Success Michael and Rasmus discussed the importance of investing in the continuing education of teams and leaders for workplace culture and retention. Rasmus emphasized the need for a shift in vocabulary from 'human resources' to 'human success,' highlighting the importance of investing in employees' growth and success, even if they leave the company. He also introduced the concepts of learning, engagement, and performance, suggesting that a balanced approach is necessary for employee success. Both agreed on the need for a cultural shift in how organizations view their employees and the potential for younger generations to drive this change. Investing in Human Success and Growth Rasmus and Michael discussed the importance of investing in human success rather than human resources. They agreed that when people are given the best possible chance to succeed in their work, the organization, customers, and individuals benefit. They also discussed the importance of creating an environment where people can thrive and grow, even if it means letting them go to better opportunities. Rasmus shared his experience hiring a new Chief Revenue Officer and how the company's focus on human success attracted many qualified candidates. They concluded that creating a positive work environment not only retains employees but also attracts new talent and fosters a sense of belonging among former employees. Adapting to Changing Workplace Expectations Rasmus and Michael discussed the changing expectations of younger generations in the workplace. They agreed that these generations want a different work experience that allows them to feel successful, challenged, and part of a team while also maintaining a balance between work and personal life. Michael emphasized the importance of human success and the need for organizations to adapt to these changing expectations. Rasmus shared his journey, highlighting how his career goals and aspirations have evolved. Discussing 'Human Success' in Organizations Rasmus and Michael discussed the concept of "human success" in the context of their respective organizations. Rasmus explained that "human success" encompasses personal and professional growth, emphasizing the importance of being a good human and achieving success. He also shared his experience finding his Chief Revenue Officer with a search firm, Heidrich. Michael agreed with Rasmus's perspective and expressed his intention to advocate for "human success" in his work. https://zensai.com/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/rasmusholst/
Carl J Cox is the Host of The Measure Success Podcast, $4 Million Strategies, author of Lost at CEO, and the Founder and CEO of 40 Strategy.Carl discusses his experience working with seven diverse companies, each achieving growth from 2X to 7X, despite being very different organizations. He emphasizes that every business has fundamental principles and that success involves understanding what isn't working within your business, people, processes, and systems. Carl notes that many organizations recognize issues but are unwilling to act on them. He talks about how to better support employees, emphasizing that understanding their needs and being present for them is more important than offering more money. He mentions that money is rarely a top reason employees leave; instead, employees often leave due to issues with a specific person, such as a supervisor or boss.Carl emphasizes the importance of breaking down large objectives into smaller, manageable tasks that can be completed weekly over a ten-week period, known as a "sprint."
