What if your routines are quietly stifling your company's growth? In this episode of the BOLD Business Podcast, host Jess Dewell sits down with Dr. Jennifer Berry, CEO of SmartLab, to explore a rebellious mindset shift that disrupts burnout and drives fresh thinking in today's fast-changing business landscape.   Dr. Berry challenges the "go it alone" approach to leadership, making the case that lasting impact is built through collaboration, belonging, and the willingness to face discomfort together. From her Stop, Walk, and Think process to the power of tiny acts of rebellion, she offers practical ways to break mental ruts, spark innovation, and reconnect with what truly matters.   You'll walk away understanding how celebrating effort fuels both immediate momentum and long-term goals, why joy isn't forced positivity but a practice worth designing into your culture, and how productive struggle — for your team and your clients — is one of the boldest moves a leader can make.   In this episode: Why identity and self-worth get tangled up in workplace change — and how to navigate it How hands-on, project-based environments unlock natural curiosity and real growth Making KPIs flexible enough to reflect shifting goals without losing structure Reflection rituals that sharpen focus and reduce distraction How micro-changes in daily habits fuel bigger innovation Cultivating joy as a resilience strategy, not a feel-good afterthought   If you're ready to redefine success to include joy and productive struggle, this conversation is your starting point.   —---------   If you want to identify business bottlenecks, the necessary skills, the initial actions to take, the expected milestones, and the priorities for achieving growth, try the "Growth Framework Reset" approach. This will help you to keep learning and growing while working strategically on your business.   -------------------- You can get in touch with Jess Dewell on Twitter,  LinkedIn or Red Direction website.

What does your business really need from you? Who do you need to become to lead your business well? YOUR NEXT STEPS In this episode of Wisdom's Table, I, Rachel Wortman, dive deep into the unique challenges and strengths of right-brained creatives and chaotic entrepreneurs navigating a predominantly left-brained world. I aim to empower those who often feel out of place in traditional business environments, while also offering valuable insights for left-brained thinkers. We begin by exploring the fundamental differences between right-brained and left-brained thinking. Three Keys to Identity, Success in Business and LifeGuest: Joanna Harabedian, Faith-Based Relationship Strategist, Amazon #1 Bestselling Author and Miss America 2019-2021 Host: Julie RigaOverviewWhat if the greatest challenge you face as a leader is not a business problem but an identity problem? In this episode of the Stay On Course Podcast, Julie Riga sits down with Joanna Harabedian, Miss America 2019-2021 and Amazon #1 bestselling author of From Solo to Soulmate. Together they unpack three transformational keys to identity that shape success in business and in life. From learning to receive gracefully to rewriting your deepest inner story, Joanna brings spiritual depth, emotional intelligence, and practical wisdom to every woman ready to break free from cycles that no longer serve her.Three Keys to Identity, Success in Business and LifeAbout the GuestJoanna Harabedian is a faith-based relationship strategist, Amazon #1 bestselling author, and Miss America 2019-2021, a title she held for three years due to the COVID pandemic. She helps high-achieving women break unhealthy relationship patterns and build emotionally healthy, God-aligned partnerships. Her Princess Crowning Program has reached hospitals and stages. A defining moment came at a quadriplegic facility in California, where a young woman named Karina, non-responsive for five weeks and silent for five years, began to speak after being crowned. That moment became the foundation of Joanna's mission.Fun Fact: Joanna's favorite food is homemade ravioli with pesto sauce, inspired by her grandfather from Peru. The Three Keys to Identity1. The Ability to Receive High-achieving women are often celebrated givers who never learned to receive. Joanna shares a vivid dream in which a bouquet given in love is slapped back in rejection, and a voice tells her: this is how you make people feel when you decline their compliment. In business, refusing a genuine compliment builds invisible walls and signals distrust. In marriage, it slowly dismantles connection. The practice is simple but powerful: say thank you and receive it fully.2. Self-Awareness Patterns rooted in childhood do not disappear; they evolve and bleed into every area of life. Joanna references a study where women with fake scars removed before a job interview still reported being treated unfairly because their inner story shaped what they believed others saw. Self-awareness is the key that uncovers the root of those stories. Without it, cycles of unworthiness continue across relationships, career, and leadership. With it, transformation becomes possible.3. Emotional Intelligence and Alignment Joanna calls it wisdom alignment: the convergence of self-knowledge and purposeful living. She shares her journey through a painful first marriage, asking God to show her how she arrived there, and doing the courageous growth work that led to a thriving decade-long partnership. She teaches that we break twice in life, and that the second break, when met with honesty and faith, becomes the breakthrough that reveals our true purpose.Memorable Quotes"The story you tell yourself about yourself is the most important story you will ever tell.""Little keys unlock big doors, and big doors swing on small hinges.""I help women contrast and complete, not compare and compete.""Diamonds are forged in the fires of the earth. Sam opens up about working 80–100 hour weeks, hitting burnout, and the mindset shift that changed everything. He explains his "Work the System" philosophy and how documenting processes created freedom, profit, and scale. The conversation dives into pricing courage, delegation, and building a business that runs without you. A powerful lesson on achieving real success in business through clarity, structure, and smart leadership. Why would you wait any longer to start living the lifestyle you signed up for? Balance your health, wealth, relationships and business growth. And focus your time and energy and make the most of this year. Let's get into it by clicking here. Troy delves into our guest's startup journey, their perception of success, industry reconsideration, and the pivotal stress point during business expansion. They discuss the joys of small business growth, vital entrepreneurial habits, and strategies for team building, encompassing wins, blunders, and invaluable advice. And a snapshot of the final five Grow A Small Business Questions: What do you think is the hardest thing in growing a small business? According to Sam Carpenter, the hardest thing in growing a small business is enduring the long hours and mental pressure while trying to balance relationships and personal life. Early on, business consumes your mind 24/7, which can strain health, family, and focus. He explains that most owners feel overwhelmed because they see the business as chaos instead of separate systems. The real challenge is learning to step back, stop reacting emotionally, and work on the business mechanically. Once you shift that mindset, growth becomes manageable and sustainable. What's your favorite business book that has helped you the most? Sam Carpenter's favorite business book — the one he says helped him the most — is "The E-Myth Revisited" by Michael E. Gerber. He often credits it with shifting his mindset from working in the business to working on the business by building systems. It deeply influenced his "Work the System" philosophy and helped him see how to structure processes so the business can run without burning out the founder. Are there any great podcasts or online learning resources you'd recommend to help grow a small business? According to Sam Carpenter, he doesn't really rely on podcasts or fancy online learning platforms for growing a small business; instead, he believes the most powerful resource is reading books deeply and consistently. He prefers learning through focused reading and real-world application rather than consuming endless content. Sam emphasizes using simple, reliable tools like email and basic software, avoiding distractions, and developing long attention spans through reading, clear thinking, and systems-based learning rather than chasing trends or tools. What tool or resource would you recommend to grow a small business? One tool Sam Carpenter would recommend for growing a small business is a process documentation system — it doesn't have to be fancy, just something that gets you thinking in systems rather than chaos. Many business owners use tools like Notion, Evernote, or Google Docs to write down and organize standard operating procedures, workflows, and checklists. Sam's whole philosophy is about capturing how your business actually works so you can improve it, delegate it, and scale it. The power isn't in the software itself — it's in consistently writing, refining, and using your documented processes to free up time and create predictable results. What advice would you give yourself on day one of starting out in business? Sam Carpenter says that if he could advise himself on day one, he'd say: stop running the business emotionally and start running it mechanically. Instead of seeing the business as chaos, he'd focus on breaking it into separate systems, fixing the biggest problem first, and documenting everything early. He believes years of stress could have been avoided by working on the business instead of being trapped in it. The core lesson: face reality, build systems, and don't try to be the hero. Ryan Rottman's favorite business book that's helped him the most is "The Lean Startup" by Eric Ries — he often says its principles of rapid testing, validated learning, and iterative growth were game-changers in how he approached building and scaling Athlete Agent. Are there any great podcasts or online learning resources you'd recommend to help grow a small business? Ryan Rottman recommends learning from practical, founder-led resources, especially podcasts like How I Built This, Masters of Scale, and The Tim Ferriss Show for real stories on growth, resilience, and decision-making, along with hands-on platforms like Y Combinator Startup School and HubSpot Academy for actionable lessons that help small businesses scale smarter. What tool or resource would you recommend to grow a small business? Ryan Rottman often points to project management and customer engagement tools as must-haves for small business growth. One he recommends is Notion — it's great for organizing ideas, goals, workflows, and team collaboration all in one place. For customer growth and marketing, he also suggests HubSpot CRM, which helps track leads, manage contacts, and automate marketing without a huge budget. Both tools are practical, scalable, and especially helpful when you're building structure and consistency in your business. What advice would you give yourself on day one of starting out in business? According to Ryan Rottman, his advice to himself on day one would be to focus intently on what customers actually need, not on your own initial vision. He would stress communicating with concise clarity to earn quicker and more meaningful responses. He recommends building a firm but fair management style by setting clear expectations from the beginning. Additionally, he advises pivoting decisively when the data shows a need, rather than delaying out of pride. Finally, he emphasizes developing a resilient mindset to withstand rejection and persevere through challenges. Brad Ellison went from selling insurance to building Michigan's highest-rated painting company in just a few years, and he's got some seriously practical wisdom about profit, personality, and perfectionism. In this conversation, we dig into why finishing jobs to 75% can actually be the smartest move for your business, how your core values should drive everything from your marketing to your hiring, and why contractors are the perfect clients for video producers right now. About Brad Ellison Brad grew up in Royal Oak, Michigan and graduated from Oakland University. During school, his goal was always to run his own small business and he got his start at age 19 when he started a local window washing company to pay for tuition. Brad and Rachel operate Ellison Painting together and now live in Oakland Twp with their 5-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son. They enjoy exercising, time outdoors, and being involved in the local community and church. Key Takeaways Stop over-delivering: That last 25% of polish you're adding? Your clients often can't even tell the difference, but it's costing you real profit. Focus on meeting expectations, not exceeding them to the point of vanity. Your core values aren't just wall art: Brad's company lists "levity" as a core value, which is why their funny ads work. Every piece of marketing you create should reflect at least one of your actual values. There's a huge opportunity with contractors: Painting, roofing, and other trade companies desperately need help with video content but don't know where to start. If you can crack this market, there's serious money to be made. Build around what you actually care about: Brad's business exists to support his faith, family, fitness, and friendships—not the other way around. Define what matters to you first, then build your business to serve those priorities. In This Episode  [00:00] Welcome to the show! In this episode of the Grow A Small Business Podcast, host Troy Trewin interviews John Ferguson, founder of Hobart Gutter Guard Co., shares his journey from working in community services to building a $500K lifestyle business. Starting as a side hustle in 2018, he grew the company through smart systems, clear SOPs, and delegation. By hiring a virtual assistant and automating operations, John reduced his workload to just two hours a week. After selling half the business, he now focuses on expanding the model across Australia. His story is a powerful example of how vision, structure, and marketing mastery can turn a small local business into a scalable success. According to John Ferguson, the hardest thing in growing a small business is the isolation and loneliness that come with being a solopreneur. He explained that working alone – especially on tasks like marketing, sales copy, and SEO—can feel isolating because there's no one to share wins or frustrations with. That lack of daily collaboration makes it challenging to stay motivated and balanced while managing all aspects of the business. What's your favorite business book that has helped you the most? John Ferguson mentioned that his favorite business book that helped him the most is "Sell Like Crazy" by Sabri Suby. He said it's the best sales book he's ever read, providing powerful insights into marketing, sales psychology, and conversion strategies. The book helped him sharpen his approach to attracting and converting customers, which played a key role in growing Hobart Gutter Guard Co. into a highly profitable business. Are there any great podcasts or online learning resources you'd recommend to help grow a small business? John Ferguson recommends listening to SEO and Google Ads podcasts to stay sharp on digital marketing, as these have been key in his business growth. He also listens to the Grow a Small Business Podcast and other interview-style shows to learn from real entrepreneurs' journeys. For learning, he prefers YouTube tutorials and audiobooks over formal courses, as they allow him to study while working or driving. Ferguson believes that consistent self-learning through podcasts and online resources is essential for any small business owner wanting to improve marketing, systems, and overall growth. What tool or resource would you recommend to grow a small business? John Ferguson recommends using a CRM and pipeline management tool as the most powerful resource for growing a small business. He believes having an all-in-one platform that combines lead tracking, automation, and communication can completely transform operations. Instead of juggling multiple apps, a single integrated system helps manage customers, streamline workflows, and improve response times, especially for service-based businesses. Ferguson credits this approach for saving him hours of manual work each week and making his business more efficient, scalable, and profitable. What advice would you give yourself on day one of starting out in business? John Ferguson's advice to his day-one self would be to keep everything simple — from the business model and offer to the systems and operations. He believes simplicity creates clarity, reduces stress, and makes scaling easier. Ferguson explained that many entrepreneurs overcomplicate their processes with unnecessary tools and jargon, which slows growth. His biggest lesson is that a simple, repeatable system and a clear vision are far more powerful than a complex setup, and that focusing on doing the basics exceptionally well is the real key to long-term success. Have you heard the news about the Kingdom Leaders Community? Consider this your personal invitation! KLC is for entrepreneurs and leaders who know they're called to more! Discover the strategies, support, and spiritual fire to step into your next level. JOIN HERE   In this episode of Wisdom's Table, I dive deep into a topic that resonates with many of us: the desire for a guaranteed formula for success in our businesses, particularly when we seek to align our efforts with God's will. Have you ever wished for a straightforward answer from Jesus on how to achieve success? While there isn't a quick fix in the Kingdom of God, I present a four-part formula that can lead to what I call "guaranteed biblical increase." Drawing from Isaiah 55:11, I outline the essential components of this formula: Promise, People, Positioning, and Timing. Each of these elements plays a crucial role in ensuring that we are aligned with God's purpose for our lives and businesses. Promise: Understanding the specific promise God has given you is vital. I emphasize the importance of clarity in what God has called you to do. Without a clear promise, we may find ourselves pursuing paths that are not aligned with God's will, leading to frustration and stagnation. People: This component focuses on the "who" of your promise. It's essential to identify the audience or community you are meant to serve. I discuss how the right promise can be rendered ineffective if the wrong people are involved. Knowing your target demographic is key to unlocking the potential of your calling. Positioning: Here, I explore how your market positioning affects your ability to achieve success. I use real estate as an analogy to illustrate how understanding market dynamics and setting realistic goals are crucial for aligning with God's plan. If your positioning is off, even the best promise and the right people won't lead to the increase you desire. Timing: Finally, I address the importance of God's timing. I remind listeners that there are seasons in the spiritual realm that impact our lives and businesses. Being patient and discerning God's timing is essential for reaping the harvest He has in store for us. Throughout the episode, I encourage listeners to conduct a self-audit in these four areas to identify where they may need realignment. I also invite you to join my Kingdom Leaders Community, where we delve deeper into these principles and support one another in our journeys. As we wrap up, I express my gratitude for your support and encourage you to share this episode with friends who may benefit from this message. What if the key to transforming your life and business wasn't in working harder—but in expanding your imagination? In this episode of The Manifested Podcast, Kathleen Cameron reveals how your inner world shapes your outer success, showing that imagination isn't just daydreaming—it's a direct line to source energy. Drawing on powerful examples, from the Wright brothers' belief in the impossible to her own pivotal life choices, she explains how living from your imagination can elevate your vibration, attract aligned opportunities, and ignite both financial and personal growth.  If you're ready to stop letting the physical world limit you and start creating from the limitless potential within, this episode will show you exactly how to make it happen.   Key Takeaways: The imagination is a vital tool for business and personal success, equating it to a direct connection to source energy.  By operating from a higher vibrational state, individuals can attract opportunities and people that resonate at that same frequency, leading to significant life and business changes. Aligning beliefs with actions and acting from a place of future success can cultivate desired outcomes. Tapping into genuine emotions can enhance one's ability to manifest their desires, debunking the myth that success needs to be grounded in hardness or emotional suppression.         Subscribe To The Manifested Podcast With Kathleen Cameron: Apple Podcast | YouTube | Spotify Connect With The Kathleen Cameron: Facebook | Instagram | LinkedIn | Youtube | TikTok | Kathleencameronofficial.com   Unlock Your Dreams with House of ManifestationA community where you take control of your destiny, manifest your desires, and create a life filled with abundance and purpose? In this episode, I sat down with Dr. Jairo Borja, President and CEO of Borja Consulting Group, to explore how he's helping both entrepreneurs and nonprofits scale their impact. Dr. Borja shared details about his 90-Day Mastery Program—designed specifically for coaches and consultants ready to level up—and his curriculum development work with nonprofits focused on entrepreneurship. He also talked about his latest book, DealMaker: How to Easily Raise the Limit of Capital Deals, which has opened new speaking opportunities and platforms to share his knowledge. And yes, we even took a nostalgic detour back to our teenage years, remembering the long wait in line for WrestleMania 3 tickets during a frigid winter. Unexpected Wins from Group Sessions I shared how group coaching sessions often produce unexpected breakthroughs. Many participants, after just 9 weeks, find themselves launching businesses or uncovering opportunities they never planned for. The group environment fosters connection, networking, and accountability—elements that spark real momentum and transformation in a short amount of time. The Power of Accountability and Support in Coaching We dove into the structure and benefits of group coaching—weekly lessons, community support, and ongoing dialogue through platforms like WhatsApp. These elements keep participants engaged and focused. I stressed how small wins—like acting on a downloaded tool or applying a new framework—often lead to big shifts. Group coaching isn't just about content; it's about action and growth, powered by community. And yes, I couldn't resist comparing the coach's role to Paul Heyman's legendary presence in wrestling—because every great performer needs a strategic voice in their corner. Mentorship and Peer Support: Game Changers for Growth We highlighted how peer support and mentorship aren't just nice-to-haves—they're often the missing piece that unlocks major breakthroughs. I shared personal stories where relationships and guidance made all the difference, especially in scaling nonprofit and business initiatives. These kinds of groups provide encouragement, real-time feedback, and actionable insights that accelerate success. Real Estate Lessons from DealMaker Dr. Borja also expanded on his book DealMaker, which chronicles his journey in real estate—from securing a 52-unit property in North Carolina to learning from failed deals in Allentown, Memphis, and Madera Beach. The book outlines strategies for accessing capital—like term loans, business credit lines, and self-directed IRAs—and it serves as a tool to attract coaching clients, enroll members into his "Elevation" program, or draw in passive investors. He also teased a busy speaking schedule, with events in Miami, Atlanta, and more—even during August, a month usually slow for conferences. Building Business Through Clear Communication I shared insights from my own recent speaking engagements, reflecting on the dynamics of in-person versus virtual events. One consistent truth: having a book is a game-changer. It builds instant credibility and creates powerful networking opportunities. I also emphasized the importance of refining your message when pitching for capital—and how being in a group coaching environment sharpens that message and broadens access to strategic resources. If you've read my book, I encourage you to share it with your own mentorship circle. The impact multiplies when we grow together. Why Small Business Still Matters We wrapped up with a discussion on the pivotal role small businesses play in the economy. With half of the Fortune 500 companies from the year 2000 now gone, it's clear: agility, innovation, and community matter more than ever. Dr. Borja announced the launch of his next program cohort kicking off in late July or early August, and he's welcoming new participants. You can connect with him directly via LinkedIn or visit Borja Consulting Group and Borja Capital to learn more.
