Joel Weldon joins the Joseph Graham show and does a masterclass on public speaking. My good friend Dr Dorine Rivers intro us and this episode is epic Imagine this: you are so terrified to stand up and speak to people that you avoid it until, at age 28, you finally decide to give your first presentation. Joel Weldon began his 48-year career as a Hall of Fame Professional Speaker exactly like that, and NOT because he was amazing on that day. In fact, it was the result of feedback from an audience member, who said, "You are the worst speaker I have ever heard in my entire life." What would you have done if somebody said this after your first effort overcoming your greatest fear? Joel decided on that very day that he would learn how to speak effectively, and did he ever! In the four decades that followed that life-changing event, Joel was paid to speak at over 3,000 events around the world. His unique business card is an 8 ounce can that says, "Success Comes in Cans not in Cannots." Over half a million people have his success can as a constant reminder of what they CAN do. Some people do, and some people teach, Joel excels at both. Joel is all about results and has personally coached over 10,000 speakers. He created a system to enable any speaker to deliver a powerful message with clarity and impact, whether in person or virtually. Joel Weldon's “Ultimate Speaking System” is designed to help business owners, entrepreneurs and individuals use speaking to grow their business by getting the results they want. Joel's philosophy is simply this: make your message impossible to be misunderstood, because speaking is simple, when you have a system. Joel's commitment to health and fitness is evident by his energy level, which his clients always recognize as one of his unique qualities. In addition to working full-time as a speaker and speaking skills coach, Joel spends over 60 days every year on the water -- skiing, surfing and “air-chairing” on a slalom course. Imagine, you're so afraid to stand up and speak in front of a group of people. Then, one day, at age 28 you finally decide to speak. If that were you, would you feel great, that you finally overcame this long-time fear and took positive action? This is exactly how Joel Weldon began his 48-year career as a Hall of Fame professional speaker and speaking skills coach. And it wasn't because he was amazing that day. It was because of the feedback he received from one of the audience members after he had finished his presentation. As Joel was leaving the venue, the audience member came up to him and said..."You are the worst speaker I have ever heard in my entire life." What would you have done if somebody told you that after your first effort in doing something you had never been able to do before? Here's what Joel did... he decided he would learn how to speak effectively. And boy oh boy did he achieve that. He set out to create a system that would enable anyone to be able to stand up in front of any audience face to face or virtually and deliver a powerful message with clarity and impact. The proof of this is that Joel has been paid to speak at over 3,000 events around the world and has personally coached over 10,000 speakers. He also created the Ultimate Speaking System which is designed to help business owners, entrepreneurs and individuals use speaking to grow their business, get the results that they want and earn even more money.

One of the most effective ways to constantly improve and grow your skills as a speaker How to reframe, reposition and customize a talk in a way that emotionally connects with your audience
Joel Weldon, professional speaker, joins this episode of the podcast to talk about how speaking can help all of us with customer service. He shares his own story of how he got into speaking professionally, and how he has been able to use this to create customer service. For business leaders, they talk about how you can create standards across several businesses, and how you can help foster excellent speaking and customer service in your own companies. Key Takeaways: Joel's exposure to the business world was as a customer. Speaking wasn't something that was natural for him, but after his first sales presentation, he got life-changing feedback that shaped the course of his professional speaking career of over 46 years. No matter what business you're in, you are a speaker. There are three keys that tie speaking to customer service: 1. Speaking is a learned skill 2. Being an excellent communicator is being yourself 3. It's always about what's going to be best for the customer; they are the lifeblood of your business. Joel and Troy talk about how to standardize communication across different branches or locations. The words that you teach the people on your team are important for creating consistent customer service, not only to foster positive experiences but also to mitigate situations where customers may be upset. If you don't have the right people, you aren't going to get the right results. An employee's attitude is going to determine the results you get out of them. When you find the right fit, amazing customer service can happen. One of the best customer service models is Walt Disney — his philosophy is shaped around doing what you do so well that people will want you to do it again, and will bring other people with them to experience it. As a leader or owner of a business, it is your ability and responsibility to spot potential in your employees. Creating good customer service is about finding good people and making them great, by teaching them the right words and procedures, and rewarding them for their effort. Jennifer Carroll has been a storyteller her whole life, but she believes the story she's telling now is one that deserves to have massive impact. She wants to tell men and women that your health is the most important thing – because you can't make an impact if you're six feet under! Jennifer grew up with loving parents who gave her the foundation of a strong, value-based upbringing, and she always had coaches and mentors in her life, beginning with her figure skating coach when she was a child. But it was her late husband, entrepreneur Phil Carroll, who taught her the most – both the good and the bad. She says he had the most positive attitude in the world and chose to live a very forward-moving, impactful life. He also lived as if he was invincible. This was his greatest attribute, but it was also part of his demise. Because Phil didn't believe in going to doctors, he ignored the early symptoms of prostate cancer and, tragically, passed away at a very young age. With the support of another mentor, speaking coach Joel Weldon, Jennifer is now on a mission to share her story and encourage other people to share theirs because she knows that our stories have an impact on others. “Phil made his first million in his 20s. And he made his first widow in her 40s,” Jennifer says. “And I feel very driven to share that story to not only bring significance and meaning to Phil's life, as this incredible man and entrepreneur, but also to bring impact to his death.” Don't be a podcast junkie… Resources: Learn more: http://www.jennifercarroll.com/ (jenniferlcarroll.com) Learn more: illuminateyousummit.com Instagram: @jenniferlcarroll Facebook: @livelargelivelong Twitter: @largelonglegacy Get your copy of Master the Key: A Story to Free Your Potential, Find Meaning and Live Life on Purpose -- We are brought to you by the Lawton Marketing Group, a full-service advertising and design agency serving companies and entrepreneurs at all levels.
