Outer Circle Inner Stillness
Sobriety, Stewardship, and Money - with Dino Biaggi

Outer Circle Inner Stillness

Why should we talk about money in recovery? More specifically, how does it further a person's spiritual, mental, emotional, relational development to bring awareness and insight to finances?             Further, what is Stewardship? And what can we learn about it from Lord of the Rings?             Dino Biaggi is a self-identified fan about being deliberate about life. He is a husband, father, Christian man, and the Financial Literacy Manager at Birch Community Services, a Sustainable Families Program, in Portland, OR. He supports families pursuing fiscal and financial health. Paired with donated household items and food, his team at Birch aims to "Teach a person how to fish," and in this way support families in becoming the answers to their own challenges.                                         Rhys and Dino talk about what financial health is, beyond merely having a good budgeting app. We talk about family vision, core values, and wise practices to keep in mind as we navigate 60-100 financial choices per day.             Along the way, we muse on how one's relationships with work and money closely interact with our experiences of stress and trauma, and thus can eerily mirror a person's addictive, compulsive, and obsessive relationships with alcohol, drugs, and pornography. Turns out that our insecurities and inner narratives have a huge impact on what we do with our finances.             Embedded in our conversation about finances, is a discussion about Stewardship - that notion of seeing one's self as entrusted with resources, and managing them well. We make overt references to Denethor, the Steward of Gondor, as a really BAD example of a Steward.             Dino also points us to several Biblical passages, most notably the famous Gospel "Parable of the Talents," which offers a model of stewardship done well.               We discern that financial health cannot be reduced to a simple checklist of Do's-and-Don't's, nor is it as simple as having a well-formatted budgeting form. And yet, Dino still offers a few bits of initial advice on how to begin becoming intentional about your finances and family values, in a practical way.   This podcast relies on the partnership of listeners - especially with dollars! Please visit www.patreon.com/outercircle to learn how to partner with the vision of this show!   Rhys Pasimio can be found through www.patreon.com/outercircle and on instagram at @newpattrencounseling and is always happy to dialogue with listeners bringing honest questions!   Dino Biaggi and Birch Community Services can be found at  - www.birchcommunitservices.org.     Dino references the following authors: David L. Bach, author of the "Finish Rich" book series. Beth Kobliner, author of "How to Make Your Kid a Money Genius, Even If You're Not."   Rhys further recommends the book, "For Love and Money: Exploring Sexual & Financial Betrayal in Relationship," by Debra L. It's been a while, but I'm back on the podcast to share an amazing interview with my longtime friend, Joe Polish. Joe is recognized as the most connected person on the planet, and today you're going to find out why! In case you're unfamiliar, Joe Polish is an author, speaker, podcaster, entrepreneur, and Founder of Genius Network®, which is considered one of the most exclusive entrepreneurial masterminds in the world. While Joe has seen wild success throughout his career and is known for his ability to connect deeply with others, that wasn't always his story. In fact, before he ever crushed it in business, he was a dead broke carpet cleaner, and his struggles with trauma and addiction led to a very disconnected life. Only after getting sober did he take the time to learn how to form genuine relationships with others. For 30+ years, Joe has been putting his approach to building rapport into practice, allowing him to surround himself with the most successful people imaginable—and now he's ready to teach YOU how to do the same. In our conversation, we dive into his new book, What's in It for Them?: 9 Genius Networking Principles to Get What You Want by Helping Others Get What They Want. You'll learn about the power of reciprocity, the importance of treating yourself like a million-dollar racehorse, how to cut out toxic relationships, why being a giver (instead of a taker) is more important than ever, and much more! In this session, here's what we cover: Why Joe wrote his new book, What's in It for Them? How to win the right friends and influence the right people (an update to Dale Carnegie's legendary teaching). How to set your life up to be a lot more E.L.F (easy, lucrative, fun) and a lot less H.A.L.F (hard, annoying, lame, frustrating). The secret to why Joe Polish is the most connected human being on the planet. How to act like a "pain detective" and make more money by transforming other people's bad news into good news. How do you know if you're investing your time and energy in the wrong relationships? Learn to deepen rapport and connect with others by identifying and reducing their suffering. The story of when Joe used the What's In It For Them framework to win over Sir Richard Branson. The power of the 6-week sabbatical and how to use it to destroy anything in your life that isn't excellent. How can you connect with yourself, so you can better connect with others? Why life gives to the giver and takes from the taker. Saya membahas buku Start Late, Finish Rich karya David Bach.

Episode: 159 Jabbar Adesada Join your host David Pere and Alex Felice in this episode with guest Jabbar Adesada as they get to know how a 20-year-old grows his real estate portfolio and tackles hundred-thousand-dollar real estate properties. When people get into real estate, they tend to focus on what they don't have that may hinder their entry into real estate investing. But instead of thinking that, here, Jabbar explains why it's vital to maximize what you already have and how you can draw inspiration without comparison. In this episode, Adam, David, and Jabbar talk about the right mindset towards risks, why David recommends having a network of lenders, Alex's take on HELOC limits, the first thing you should know about banks as an investor, and so much more. About Jabbar Adesada: After moving in with his father, Jabbar Adesada was given strict instruction to read books like "Rich Dad Poor Dad," "I Will Teach You To Be Rich," and "Automatic Millionaire." Jabbar decided to put down his NBA/med school dreams and open up a brokerage account. Lucky for him, right around the time he started investing was the 2020 stock market crash, giving him all the discount he needed to make his first profits. After running some "when will I be a millionaire?" scenarios, Jabbar realized that real estate, and not the stock market, is the best path to financial independence. Outline of the episode: [03:03] Host to Service Members – hosting service members far from home [05:50] Jabbar's first property from a VA loan [10:19] On accidentally finding an investment partner [14:55] What do you have that you can start with? [19:56] You only need six months of service before using a VA loan [24:35] Every bank is different [30:46] Debt is the risk! This week we are covering the stock market with an introductory primer tailored to the uninitiated and intrigued. Investing in the stock market can feel opaque and overwhelming, but it's something anyone can learn and everyone should aim to understand when planning their long term finances. We're no Gordon Gekko or Wolf of Wall Street, but you don't have to be in order to enjoy the benefits of managing your money. Over the past few months, we have both sought to gain knowledge and confidence in investing, and we're sharing what we've learned so far. If you think investing in the stock market means shouting orders into a dial-up phone a la Giovanni Ribisi in the Boiler room; if you think you ought to be investing in the stock market, but don't know where to start; if you have a large or growing savings account and want to know why I'm telling you that's not as good as it sounds; if you think you're too old and it's too late; or if you have found internet resources on the topic overwhelming, this episode is for you. In this episode we mention: - The Simple Path to Wealth: Your Road Map to Financial Independence and a Rich, Free Life by J.L. The Menopause Movement Podcast

When is the best time to get started? I'd say, “Anytime.” There's not ever a time when you're too late. And retirement doesn't have to end your passion... In fact, it can give you the freedom to do another great thing. For me, it was a time to create my podcast and help women in menopause.  Some people prepare for retirement by transitioning slowly… Either they enjoy new hobbies or spend more time with friends… Some even consider part-time retirement by working for a few hours and making sure they could go traveling. A very helpful question to ask ourselves when thinking about retirement is, “What are some of the things I really enjoy?” And I think planning for your future is a form of self-love. There's nothing wrong with putting yourself first… Or your personal finances. Have you been putting off saving for retirement because you don't believe you can save enough? I can tell you right now that it's possible to retire with millions of dollars if you just follow the right steps. In today's podcast episode, we ask financial coach, hotel owner, podcast host and independent life insurance producer with the Legacy Builder Group, Acquania Escarne to give us some tips.  Acquania started saving when she was 16 and is committed to helping people find financial freedom and build wealth. During our interview, we talked about planning for retirement, when to start, PLUS: Planning as a form of self-love The definition of retirement How to gradually increase your savings How 1% can make a huge difference Defining emergencies and saving for them Leaving a legacy Tune in to this episode today and know how you can ease your way into building your wealth before retirement. Most people fail to pursue their dreams because they don't know how to plan for them. Maybe you want to buy a car, take a vacation, re-decorate your home or start a business. Whatever it may be, you're going to need to fund your dreams, and the best way to do that is by opening a separate investment account for that specific reason. Ever since I was a financial advisor, I'd ask my clients what dreams they had. Many people would say “I want a new kitchen.” So, we'd open the kitchen account and start funding the dream. Guess what? Most clients would stop asking about their “investments” and would only ask about that “kitchen account” or whatever dream account they were funding. Nothing gives energy to a person's life about their future, like a dream account. It's the fastest way to make your dream a reality. Your future becomes exciting, your dreams suddenly feel real, and you're chasing something that's meaningful to you. What's the most difficult thing you've gone through, and what did you learn from it? When I was 15 years old, I was hit by a car head on while driving a moped, which sent me flying about 75 feet through the air. The car had smashed directly into my left ankle. And if it weren't for my surgeon, it probably would have been amputated. While lying in a hospital bed post-surgery, another doctor came to look at my situation. He told me, “You're never going to ski again, you're never going to run again, and you're probably never going to walk again without a limp.” I was absolutely devastated. Until my nurse said something to me that changed my life forever... She said “Let me tell you something. That doctor doesn't know who you are and he doesn't know what you're capable of.” She gave me hope! She made me believe that I could make a comeback; that not only would I walk without a limp, but I would even be able to ski again — but it wouldn't be easy. I spent months in the hospital, participated in daily physiotherapy, and underwent 6 surgeries over the course of a year. And guess what? I got through it. And I'm happy to report that I can ski, I can run, and I can walk without a limp. The moral of the story is that you're stronger than you realize, and you are braver than you think. Nobody knows what you can do and you have to believe that YOU CAN DO HARD THINGS! So, what challenge are you currently facing? Whatever you're going through, today's episode is going to inspire you to think differently and give you the motivation to overcome anything life throws your way! In this session, here's what we cover: Why you're stronger than you realize. The reason why you can do hard things. How to remind yourself to survive hardship. Why serious health complications are a humbling experience. How I overcame a devastating accident and being told I'd never walk properly again. The importance of angels that show up in life. Why sometimes you have to prove everybody wrong. The way to look for Who Not How in your life. What's wrong in your life right now that you can flip into gratefulness for the things that are going right? The reason nobody knows what you can do, and why it matters.   Your Invite to GrowthDay Coaching David Bach now offers his monthly coaching on GrowthDay, where you get David and a dozen other world-class personal growth teachers LIVE every month, all year long. There's something about the way of life in Italy that's unlike any other place in the world. And having spent the past 16 months living here, my family and I have completely fallen in love with it — which is why I'm so excited about today's episode of the podcast. I'm hanging out with the legendary Frances Mayes, author of the New York Times bestseller, Under the Tuscan Sun, along with my dear friend, Ondine Cohane, travel journalist and author. This conversation is an absolute treat, and perfect timing just before the holidays, as we're talking all about their new book, Always Italy — the most beautiful book I've ever seen about Italy, and the ultimate gift for current or aspiring travel lovers! This book will take you on a journey through 20 different regions of the country and inspire you to come visit — once it's safe to travel again, of course :) We talk about their unique process for writing the book, why people fall so hard for Italy, how travel largens your sense of home, and so much more!   In this session, here's what we cover: I share how my “someday dream” to move to Italy turned into a reality, along with the love and admiration I have for Frances Mayes life's work. Why the element of surprise is such an important part of life! How travel largens your sense of “home” and why it doesn't have to be a fixed location. The making of Always Italy - hear the behind the scenes process for collaborating, researching, and writing the book. Frances & Ondine reveal the hidden gems of Italy and their favorite places to explore. Find out what it's like to buy and restore a home in Italy. Why moving to a new country doesn't come at the cost of losing friends. What makes the way of life in Italy so much different than everywhere else? How living in a different country can open you up to new perspectives. How Frances & Ondine find meaning and purpose in both work & life - and the current projects they're pursuing today. Advice for those who want to explore the world, but are worried about doing it alone.   Get Access to More Great Content! Full-time blogger, Bob Lotich talks about how he eclipsed his corporate income after blogging for just 9 months and the benefits of taking a sabbatical. Guest Biography Bob Lotich is the founder of the award-winning blog SeedTime.com and podcast SeedTime Money. He nerds out on experimenting with his money with small things like budgeting hacks, money-saving apps, and big things like radical giving, year-long sabbaticals, and other timeless financial instruction from the Bible. Bob is a Certified Educator in Personal Finance (CEPF®) and started SeedTime (formerly ChristianPF) in 2007 with a passion to help fellow believers learn how to manage their money wisely. His personal mission (and the SeedTime mission) is to make, save, grow, and give money to benefit others. After all, life isn’t about the accumulation of things but is about how we can make the world a better place by giving. Once he realized that by paying off his debt, he could fund God’s Kingdom instead of paying interest to banks, it provided a deeper level of motivation to get out of debt. That sealed the deal, and Bob and his wife Linda spent the next couple years paying off their $46k of debt in their first years of marriage.  Bob also has a passion for helping entrepreneurs get their business ideas off the ground and has written 2 books helping bloggers and wanna-be-bloggers build and grow their blogs. When Bob isn’t working, he is likely hanging with his wife Linda and their kids, Alden, Valerie, and Oliver, working on his garden, eating some artisanal dark chocolate, playing guitar, or riding his motorcycle. Sometimes all at the same time. In this episode, you'll learn: How Bob became a full-time blogger and blogging as a business. What Bob learned from taking a full year off from work, with no email or social media. Make sure you listen to the end to hear about Bob's big giving goals, like giving away nearly 40% of his income! #UnBlockYourself2020 E09 - Your life values should determine every life decision you make.   What is the purpose of money in your life? Your values should help you answer this question.   But Sometimes it’s hard to determine values because everyone is so different. My values might not be the same as yours. Not only that, but the things we PLACE VALUE ON maybe very different also.   But watch this, if you look at what you want to spend money on, a lot of times it’s easy to come up with 1 million things that you would buy, and we might not have a problem agreeing that that’s the path we should take.   Money allows you to: Be - be who you are. Money allows you toLive in a particular way that defines you.   Do - Do what you want to do. Money later allows you to do the things that would help you live the way you want.   Have - have the things that you want. What did you eat for New Years? Tradition calls for us to eat certain things, but does it work? Anyway, I found a book that I hope can change our financial lives, and also bring couples closer together. The book is titled: "Smart Couples Finish Rich" by David Bach To start off I'd like to lay a foundation, so let's get to it! 3 things starting off I wanted everyone to know: 1 We need to learn to earn. Let's get our mind set to learn how to work with money, or make it work for us. 2 We need to know the differences of liabilities from assets. 3 We need to BOTH decide to become successful, and define what that success is. When both are on the same page: Make agreements to hold each other accountable Be patient and work together, not against each other Work to understand viewpoints on how each person views the handling of finances. * Some views may be influenced by childhood, education, friends, lack of, or the abundance of money. * Not everyone sees the same situations the same way. That is the need for communication, and no room for assuming. Ultimately, the success will come from not how much money have, but how you work together to make things happen. And it will extend into more areas beyond just your finances!

Discover #1 New York Times best-selling author David Bach's three secrets to financial freedom in an engaging story that will show you that you are richer than you think. Drawing on the author's experiences teaching millions of people around the world to live a rich life, this fast, easy listen/read reveals how anyone — from millennials to Baby Boomers — can still make his or her dreams come true. In this compelling, heartwarming parable, Bach and his best-selling coauthor John David Mann (The Go-Giver) tell the story of Zoey, a 20-something woman living and working in New York City. Like many young professionals, Zoey is struggling to make ends meet under a growing burden of credit card and student loan debt, working crazy hours at her dream job but still not earning enough to provide a comfortable financial cushion. At her boss' suggestion, she makes friends with Henry, the elderly barista at her favorite Brooklyn coffee shop. Henry soon reveals his “Three Secrets to Financial Freedom”, ideas Zoey dismisses at first but whose true power she ultimately comes to appreciate. Over the course of a single week, Zoey discovers she already earns enough to secure her financial future and realize her truest dreams — all she has to do is make a few easy shifts in her everyday routine. David Bach is one of the most trusted financial experts and bestselling financial authors of our time. He has written nine consecutive New York Times bestsellers with over seven million copies in print, translated into nineteen languages, including two #1 New York Times bestsellers, The Automatic Millionaire and Start Late, Finish Rich. On this week's Queer Money we are honored to host the 9 times New York best selling author David Bach.  “If you don’t know where you’re going, you may not like where you end up.” How do you make decisions about how to spend your money? Do you have a vision of what you want your life to look like that guides you? Do you spend with intention, based on your values? Or unconsciously, based on someone else’s idea of what’s important? David Bach is one of the most popular financial authors of our time. He has written nine consecutive New York Times bestsellers, including Start Late, Finish Rich, The Automatic Millionaire, and his new release, The Latte Factor. David has been teaching people how to be smarter with their money since 1994, speaking internationally and making thousands of media appearances, with spots on The Today Show and The Oprah Winfrey Show, among many other outlets. He is also the founder of Finish Rich Media and co-founder of AE Wealth Management, a firm boasting $8B in assets under management. David joins us to share the premise of his new book, The Latte Factor. He explains why having a vivid vision is crucial to changing your financial life, discussing how clear values make money decisions easier. David also addresses how to avoid getting sidetracked by values that aren’t your own and overcome the perception that you’re not worthy of more than a mediocre life.

David Bach is a legend in the personal finance space — a master at helping creators and entrepreneurs make -and keep- more of the money we earn. He’s one of America’s best known financial gurus, having put nine consecutive books on the NYT best sellers list.  In short, when David Bach talks - and you’re a creator who wants to make money - you listen.  We had David in the CL studios not long ago to share wisdom from his epic class Start Late, Finish Rich.  Some of this material was so fundamental for creators making a living and a life doing what they love that I felt was crucial to get it seen by as many people in our community as possible.  So much so that in addition to the class on CL, I wanted to share it here on the podcast, for free.  So…in this episode, David covers so many things, among them the mindset around how to best get paid…AND how to pay yourself first (as in pre-tax and pre-debt collectors).  If this sounds curious already - it’s a must listen.  Think you got it all sorted and don’t need financial advice? Think again. This is helpful stuff to anyone who wants to earn money over the long haul.  From concept down to the detailed tactics, these 30 minutes are a quick code for getting your long term finances on rails.  In this episode, There are six routes to wealth. Winning it, marrying into it, inheriting it, suing for it, budgeting for it and PAYING YOURSELF FIRST. Every paycheck you get or dollar that you earn, make sure you get your cut before Uncle Sam, debt collectors, or anyone else. All it takes is stashing 14% of every paycheck to be a millionaire. Pay yourself 14% of every paycheck before it touches Uncle Sam’s fingers (through legit mechanisms!) and if you can bump that up to saving 20% of every dollar you earn, you’ll have enough to retire early. The government makes it pretty easy for self employed people to save money. BUT, of acronyms like IRA, SEP and IRS make you queasy you need to spend this 30 min with David in your ears.  Stuff like this sounds scary but in reality setting up a SEP IRA to save money pre-tax only takes ten minutes to set up. …and more ;) Enjoy! Today's episode is brought to you by CreativeLive. CreativeLive is the world's largest hub for online creative education in photo/video, art/design, music/audio, craft/maker and the ability to make a living in any of those disciplines. They are high quality, highly curated classes taught by the world’s top experts -- Pulitzer, Oscar, Grammy Award winners, New York Times best selling authors and the best entrepreneurs of our times.

Michelle Dyer wants everyone to think in multiple sources of income. Being a freelancer can be very hard. It’s not like a 9 – 5 where you can have a clear career path and most educational institutions don’t cover the “how to freelance” part of the art training. In a world where you bounce from job to job having multiple sources of income can make a huge difference in how you approach projects. When you’re not as worried about one gig paying all of your bills you have the freedom to take jobs that are more important to you and not just because you need the money. Michelle knows this first hand and from her own experience in the arts created a resource to help actors get side jobs that allow them to continue to act and work on their craft. MEET MICHELLE: (http://www.advanceyourart.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/MichelleDyer.png) In 2002 Michelle Dyer got on a plane to NYC with two suitcases and never looked back. Her eclectic background of performance, White House Intern, and now a full-time businesswoman has made her a natural candidate to inspire others to have a “side hustle” to be smart, pay the bills, and save money while going after their dreams. She created Survival Jobs for Actors when she had just arrived back into town after a gig, and didn’t want to go right back out on the road. After asking around for temp agency recommendations, she thought – there must be a better way [to find a survival job] – and thus Survival Jobs for Actors was born BOOKS: The Automatic Millionaire, Expanded and Updated: A Powerful One-Step Plan to Live and Finish Rich by David Bach (http://amzn.to/2jc4O6J) The Money Book for the Young, Fabulous & Broke Paperback by Suze Orman (http://amzn.to/2ip4z7H) The 9 Steps to Financial Freedom: Practical and Spiritual Steps So You Can Stop Worrying Paperback by Suze Orman (http://amzn.to/2ikWspi) RESOURCES: Bryan Tracy (http://www.briantracy.com/) Bob Proctor (http://www.proctorgallagherinstitute.com/) Jim Rohn (https://www.jimrohn.com/) Vic Johnson (http://www.vicjohnson.com/) http://www.actorsfund.org/ (http://www.actorsfund.org/) http://www.actorsfund.org/services-and-programs/al-hirschfeld-free-health-clinic (http://www.actorsfund.org/services-and-programs/al-hirschfeld-free-health-clinic) CONTACT: http://survivaljobsforactors.com/ (http://survivaljobsforactors.com/) BONUS: This podcast is brought to you by Audible. Happy Friday everyone. I'm doing a new thing starting this Friday and every Friday until the end of the summer. I've decided, just decided the other day, that I'm gonna air re-runs. You know, summer Fridays tend to be quieter than the other days, and I see it in my download numbers. I don't get as many people listening in on Fridays. Also, it's hard to get guests over the summer. So I'm at a point now where it's a lot easier for me to just air re-runs on Fridays. I hope this isn't gonna be too much of a problem for listeners. I mean I have already listeners telling me to slow down a little bit, and this is a way that's helping me but also addressing I think the demand out there. I can tell, you guys have other things to do on Fridays. And those of you that are tuning in, thank you! I appreciate you. But for now until the end of the summer, let's just dedicate Fridays to some oldies but goodies. And today we're gonna kick it off with the great David Bach. David, as you may know, is famous for his FinishRich books including Start Late, Finish Rich and Smart Women Finish Rich. One of my personal favorite books of David’s is The Automatic Millionaire. We talk about David a little bit actually in yesterday's show with James Altucher when he is trying to convince me that 401(k)'s are thumbs down, no good and I took him to task, but mentioned David Bach's input as well there. David is also an internationally renowned motivational and financial speaker. He's a regularly featured financial expert in the media, you've seen him everywhere! He's been on the Oprah Winfrey show six times. He's been a regular contributor to The Today Show. I've been next to David many times on The Today Show, very privileged to say that I've had that opportunity.

Today I'm very pleased to welcome David Bach to the show. David is the author of several books on achieving your financial goals, and doing so while reducing stress along the way. With titles including Automatic Millionaire, Smart Women Finish Rich, and Smart Couples Finish Rich, David has become an absolute authority on choosing yourself first. Or as he says, "Pay yourself first." With financial troubles being the leading cause of friction and divorce amongst couples, David has found several key ways that families can manage their finances easier. Steps couples can take to improve their financial lives include: *Talking about small purchases more often. *Twice a year, work with your spouse or a financial advisor to monitor your personal financial statement. *Have a vision for your financial future. This clarifies every decision you make in your financial life. David is a big advocate of "The Latte Factor" and doing small things to save money every day. This helps people overcome the biggest obstacle to better financial behaviors: getting started. Whether you're an entrepreneur or an intrapreneur, the thing you can do that will have the most effect on your financial path is to increase your income. For entrepreneurs, this means increasing your rates. If your services are indispensable to current customers, they will gladly pay a higher rate. If you're working within a company, getting a raise on a regular basis is the way to go. Be valuable to your employer and they will gladly reward you. The digital economy and the passing recession have given us a unique opportunity to reinvent ourselves. While many people are having to do this at an older age, David has a few key actions people can take to get on this road, even if it's later in life: *Spend Less. *Setup an automatic saving plan. Pay yourself first and allow compounding to do its magic. *Meditate regularly. *Journal immediately after you meditate. *Focus on what is making you unhappy, AND what you can do to help make you happier. While many people are having to do this at an older age, David has a few key actions people can take to get on this road, even if it's later in life: •Spend Less. •Setup an automatic saving plan. Pay yourself first and allow compounding to do its magic. •Meditate regularly. •Journal immediately after you meditate. •Focus on what is making you unhappy, AND what you can do to help make you happier.
