FIRST THING - Give Fear Space: Amy's friend @LisaHayim put up a post on Instagram recently about giving fear space! Everything she shared about fear is so spot on, including the things we can do instead of pushing through fear (thank you Lisa for the tips!) We second Lisa's plea to normalize being afraid, have healthy skepticism, and give fear some breathing space. Such a good IG post!!! Speaking of IG, Amy also shares that you need to be following @BrunchWithBabs on IG if you're not already! Her bio: “the internet mom/grandma you didn't know you needed - come for family recipes, stay for the motherly advice!” SECOND THING - Try Stream Of Consciousness Writing: One of Amy's recent journal entries was dedicated to this mantra: "Think thoughts about what you want to be." and that led into her making a list of all the things she wants to be and then flowed into "stream of consciousness writing" - a helpful tool that Amy uses to just get everything from her brain to paper! Benefits of Stream of Consciousness Writing: -allows you to avoid overthinking -takes you on a journey of self-discovery -stops writer's block -teaches you to be vulnerable -helps you explore your thinking patterns -can help you make decisions -you can discover your writing style -can help release your mental load THIRD THING - Make Easy Cookies: It's that time of year!!! Amy always loves to remind you about her favorite & VERY easy Pumpkin Cookies. They require only 2 ingredients. Ingredients: -1 can of pumpkin puree (15 oz) -1 box spice cake mix (or simple mills pumpkin muffin mix) Instructions: -Preheat the oven to 350° -Line baking sheet with parchment paper -Mix your pumpkin and cake mix together in a medium bowl until there are no more lumps. -Scoop a tablespoon(ish) onto baking sheet & keep them an inch or 2 apart -Bake for 13-15 minutes or until the edges start to golden a little bit -Remove from the oven & allow cookies to cool - if you can even wait that long before eating one! *You can also frost them with cream cheese, vanilla, or a sugar glaze icing if you want to go the extra mile, but not necessary (as that would technically be a 3rd ingredient and we don't have time for that!!) FOURTH THING - Seek Change Out Of Love (Not Hate) For Yourself: Amy actually shares 4 things inside this fourth thing - it's like inception - or something?? One of the most popular 4 things items for Christmas is now available - for a limited time - red customizable Christmas pullovers! You can put whatever 4 things you want (each thing just has to be 13 characters or less!) For example Amy's says: BABY JESUS. MARIAH CAREY. FAMILY TIME. COOKIES. These pullovers also go towards supporting Haiti, so if you want to make some as gifts or for a cute family pajama pictures (just add flannel bottoms & everyone looks festive) then order soon - because you'll want enough time to get them made & shipped out to your before the holiday season really kicks into gear! Fear is the thing that holds us back from doing so many things in our lives. I was reminded yesterday of this great quote: "F.E.A.R. has two meanings: Forget Everything And Run OR Face Everything And Rise. The choice is yours!" by Zig Ziglar. We too often forget that we have a choice as to how we respond to things, including fear. This week's episode takes a look at why we end up with the fear responses we have and how we can change our response to one that will create a more joyful, exciting and fulfilling life. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/lia-bandola/message
Are you ready to give fear the finger? That's what Jacqueline Wales asks people. She learned the hard way that by letting fear take over, she was allowing the fire inside to die. God wants us to be aware of His faithfulness and because of His faithfulness, we need not fear...Give FEAR no place in your life! (Lamentations 3:22-23)
NYC Mayor Bill Deblasio joins Biden, and the CDC's Rochelle Walensky in creating a whole new class of people who think a $5 dollar piece of paper keeps one safe from the Virus. Useful idiots indeed!
We choose what we allow in our life! Do you choose fear or courage?
Excited to have reached 100 podcast episodes. I honestly did not think I could even record one. It's unnatural for me. BUT I'm passionate about the subject matter and I'm a constant learner. And by sharing what I'm learning and experiencing, I'm more in-tune with those things and it reinforces my knowledge. How are you going to challenge yourself and face fear, insecurity and doubt? (LOL I misspoke and this is #101—regardless I'm celebrating!)

Alice Aspen March's Guest is Diane DiResta, a Certified Speaking Professional, Author of Knockout Presentations and Give Fear the Finger. They're going to talk about why so many people are terrified of speaking publicly and how & why paying attention and listening allow people to solve their own problems.
In 1989, the overall #1 pick in the NFL draft was a young player from UCLA. His 12 seasons as the starting quarterback for a team in Texas was a star-studded career... He was selected to the Pro Bowl six times He led his team to three Super Bowl victories ...and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006. This man was Troy Aikman. During Troy’s career, the Dallas Cowboys were so feared, most teams went to the stadium with the expectation of LOSING! Why? I would argue those teams were way too deferential. They feared their own inferiority. Or both... Fear is unhealthy and one of the worst things you can fall into. Fearing your opponents, who or whatever they might be, automatically makes those things seem bigger, faster and smarter than they really are. Thus, there is a great advantage to be found in being UNIMPRESSED. Take a look at current presidents, kings, so-called titans of industry, celebrities and billionaires; you can easily find plenty of reasons to be completely unimpressed. Don’t fall into the intimidation trap. Refuse to be easily impressed. Rather, see your own talents as impressive. Remember to notice the reality of “Exalted Ones”; they’re just like you and me. They might have an impressive talent, but we’re all a mixed bag. No one is better than you, no one is more “valuable” than you. There’s no real reason other than the ones we create in our heads, to be intimidated or deferential. Be unimpressed. Notice this in the DNA of every underdog story… you too can cultivate the fine art of being unimpressed. Remember, courage isn’t the absence of fear--it’s the ability to ACT, despite the presence of fear. Try this out, and let me know if you don’t find yourself winning more than ever. Be brave!

Diane DiResta is the founder and CEO of DiResta Communications, Inc, a New York City-based communications skills consultancy serving business leaders who want to communicate with greater impact, whether one-to-one, in front of a crowd, or from an electronic platform. DiResta is the author of the book Give Fear the Finger: How to Knock Out Fear of Public Speaking and Knockout Presentations: How to Deliver Your Message with Power, Punch, and Pizzazz, a widely used text in college business communication courses. Podcast Highlights Who is Diane DiResta? Diane is a connector, truth seeker, and lifelong learner. She grew up in a military family so she moved around a lot during her childhood, that’s where she found her love of foreign cultures and developed an attitude of adaptability. Her first career was as a speech pathologist after graduating from Columbia, but she was too ambitious for the opportunities available in that position so she switched careers to giving public speaking training for a consulting company. After working in various businesses and industries, Diane realized that she loved the job but didn’t like the culture of Wall Street. She realized that the reason people don’t fit is not because of a skills mismatch but because of a culture issue. She kept searching for the right position while freelancing for a couple of years and came to realize, with the help of her husband, that she wanted to have control of her own work and didn’t actually want another job. Now she takes good speakers and turns them into great speakers and nervous speakers and make them confident speakers. Even as a child, Diane was always correcting people’s speech. Her first love was English and teaching, but that wasn’t really an option for her at the time, which is why she ended up in the field of speech pathology. Effective Communication Every master was once a disaster. Diane wasn’t always a professional speaker. Gifted speakers are born, but effective speakers are made. Her first exposure to public speaking was in college and she was not a natural stand out, but she still managed a ‘B’ in the class. She knows what it takes to go from an average person who’s anxious about public speaking to someone who trains professional speakers for a living. Speaking is a skill, anyone can be effective at conveying a message. The language of confidence combined with your stories and background is the art of effective communication. What’s the difference between verbal and vocal? Vocal is your tone, verbal is your language. The message is in the tone, not in your words. When it comes to language wimpy words will undermine your ability to sell or persuade someone. When you use weak words, you are communicating that you’re not confident in your statements or position. Don’t suggest, recommend. The confused mind says no. Use more definitive powerful words and hold your ground. Once people learn the skills of executive presence, they take off. Mindset and Skill Set The first stage is to address your limiting beliefs. You’re not confident because you don’t believe in yourself. The second stage is recovery strategies. What is your worst nightmare and how would you recover from it? Understanding that helps develop the skill set you need for effective communication. Speaking is not a soft skill. You have to understand who you are in front of the person that you’re communicating with. Can you think of anything that happens in the absence of communication? You’re not going to get funding from a VC without being able to communicate effectively. The stock market is psychology, fear and confidence at the basic level. Communicating with analysts effectively can have a massive ROI and impact on your company’s stock
Fear sucks the life out of you. Performers CANNOT thrive when fear is looming over us. How can you stomp out fear? First you need to recognize what type of fear you're facing. In this episode we cover the 3 most common types of fear that performers may face during their career. Attention, Judgement, and Success. When a performer is afraid of attention it is often called stage fright. Getting in front of people can be very scary for some people. The key here is getting your confidence up. When someone is afraid of judgement, they are held back because of what they THINK other people are thinking. Honestly - it doesn't matter what people think. Get on stage and do your thing. You audience will find you. The biggest fear for any one, performer or not, is the fear of success. Its natural for human being to keep to their comfort zone. But we cannot find success in our comfort zone. We have to take on new risks, face disappointments, put in more hard work, and live the dream we see for ourselves.
