Troy's new album BETWEEN THE FIRES is out now, recorded at his late mother's home, it is a powerfully moving collection of songs and stories. Without hyperbolising, this may be one of the best conversations Alexei has ever recorded. Troy has picked some films that resonate deeply with him and those emotional connections prove to be fertile ground for laughs and some top-tier cinematic celebration. Really Interesting Women - the Podcast Episode 123AMBER LAWRENCEAmber started her professional career as a Chartered Accountant but she left that to pursue a dream. After a very successful debut in the 2005 Tamworth Country Music Festival - coming second in the major singing competition to Jessica Mauboy - Amber took that success and started her country music journey in earnest. She put in a lot of hard work and was constantly touring. It paid off as she became one of Australia's leading female country singers. But that's not just my opinion. She's won 6 Golden Guitars, including Female Artist of the Year at the 2023 Golden Guitar Awards. On the way to that success she has toured the world, entertained Australian troops overseas and even went to New York to play a song she wrote to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of the Coral Sea - in front of the President of the United States and the Australian PM (and 800 others). In July 2022, she released her tenth studio album, Living for the Highlights, which reached number 1 on the ARIA charts and the Australian Country Music charts. Absolutely THRILLED to announce new guest, Catherine Britt, to The Story! When you look at modern country music you can identify a diverse range of styles that have evolved from the traditional roots form. From pop country to bush ballads, acoustic folk-leaning songs to rousing country rock and the polymorphic blend of Americana. One Australian artist that can lay claim to all of these strains is Catherine Britt, a songwriter who has already packed a respected and highly acclaimed career into her first two decades as a recording artist. From Newcastle to Nashville, Catherine made the move to the home of country music at just 17 years old. It proved to be a brave decision that gave her immeasurable experience as a musician, insight into the machinations of the industry and a contract with the legendary RCA Records. Upon returning to Australia in 2009, Catherine set about recording her debut full length album Dusty Smiles and Heartbreak Cures, the first of five consecutive albums nominated for Album Of The Year at the CMAA (Country Music Awards of Australia). The accolades didn't stop there. Along the way she has received five Golden Guitar Awards, the CMA Global Artist Of The Year award in 2010 and six ARIA Award nominations for Best Country Album. The critical acclaim for her albums and reputation as a performer has seen Catherine tour and perform with some of the biggest names in music, including Sir Elton John, Don McLean, Kasey Chambers, Brooks & Dunn, Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley, Dolly Parton, Kenny Chesney, Steve Earle, Guy Clark, Chris Isaak and Keith Urban. Not content with just carving out an enviable career as a songwriter, performer and recording artist, Catherine has also been involved in the wider country music community as a radio broadcaster on ABC's Saturday Night Country show, TV host on CMC's Alt Country program and most recently as the editor and owner of Rhythms, Australia's premiere roots music magazine.Life has a way of throwing curveballs, both good and bad, and the few years have seen Catherine fight and win a battle with breast cancer, give birth to two boys, and leave her marriage.“Over the years being an artist has meant different things to me and I've had different goals. My goal from when I was a young girl was to make money from music which I've been able to do and I'm really proud of. At different points of my life I've felt the pull of wanting to be famous and chasing that dream, living in Nashville and then realising that that wasn't what I wanted to do. It's constantly changing but my ultimate goal has been fulfilled and I can never see myself not making music. It's what I've always done and it comes naturally to me and I feel like it's what I'm meant to do, that and being a mum.”You can find Catherine and her projects here:Website : http://www.catherinebritt.comFacebook : https://www.facebook.com/CatherineBrittFansYoutube :https://www.youtube.com/c/CatherineBrittMusicTwitter: @catherinebrittInsta : https://www.instagram.com/catherine_britt/Apple Music : https://music.apple.com/us/artist/catherine-britt/31726801Spotify : https://open.spotify.com/artist/2U7nIOFSqqsKaBdSIdL0iZ...Go see her at Tellus350 Aug 21st, 6pm! Aaron Joined John on the phone to chat his Music and the New Release EP " Changed " - FROM opening the Tamworth Country Music Festival and being announced for other major festival appearances, to writing with award-winning artists and releasing charting singles to radio, Aaron Jurd has achieved it all in a few short years. The Lake Macquarie singer-songwriter releases his third single, Changed, on August 2, charting at No. 8 on iTunes, following on from Hard To Breathe, which hit the top 20 of iTunes celebrating all those feelings of new love. His debut single, Set Me On Fire, reached the top 5 of the iTunes Country Song Charts and tells of the emotional struggles that come with reaching the lowest point in your life, but knowing there is a way out, although you haven’t found it yet. His new single, Changed, on the other hand, is the next chapter from Set Me On Fire, and celebrates the silver lining after the storm. The talented artist has spent years playing gigs in cover bands and duos, but is now performing his originals with his band, The Banned, and this year, so far, they’ve played the Bluewater Country Music Festival and Off to Country Festival with the Deni Ute Muster. Aaron graduated from the 2018 CMAA Academy of Country Music in January 2018 and, with his fellow graduates, performed at the Official Opening Concert of the Tamworth Country Music Festival and was selected to perform at the 2018 Golden Guitar Awards with O’Shea. During his time at The Academy, he worked with Amber Lawrence, Fanny Lumsden, Kasey Chambers, and Kevin Bennett. Aaron also co-wrote a song with seven-time Golden Guitar winner Allan Caswell. “I have spent years writing my own music,” he said. “But, I’m such a perfectionist that none of my songs were ever heard because I was scared of the reception they would get. Releasing Set Me On Fire and people’s reaction to it, had me in a state of euphoria. I have been listening to talented artists releasing their own material for so long and I need to pinch myself to believe that my song is being played on the same radio stations as the artists I look up to.” With his strong vocal abilities, 2013 and 2014 saw Aaron named a finalist in Today’s Country 94one Brand New Star Competition. His success in 2014 meant he was selected to join 10 other artists for a song workshop with country music artist Gina Jeffreys where he co-wrote a song with the star. Aaron’s influences weren’t always country music – he grew up in a small town in the Hunter Valley and soon found music to be an avenue to escape family struggles. Although largely influenced by his parents’ taste in popular rock music up until the age of 16, it was when he heard Brad Paisley’s Welcome to the Future, on CMC that his future musical path was set. Aaron realised he had found his niche and wanted to pursue a career in the country music industry. Since then he has broadened his influences to a range of American and Australian country music artists including Chris Stapleton, Keith Urban, Rascal Flatts, Jason Aldean, Miranda Lambert and The McClymonts. “Since I heard that first song, I have felt drawn to country music,” he said. “It remains faithful to what music is supposed to be about: the storytelling, emotion, and real-life issues are all expressed and relatable in country music and it captures them in a way that very few other genres can.” With the release of three consecutive top 20 charting singles, Aaron is making his mark on the Australian country music industry with plans to release more original material to further cement his place in the genre. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/2bacr90stonow/message
I think we can all agree 2020 has been a YEAR. No one more so than country music singer Fanny Lumsden. Based in the tiny town of Tooma, on the western side of the Snowy Mountains, her release plans for her beautiful third album Fallow took a turn for the worse, when disaster and pandemic struck. But that didn't stop Fanny. Her resilience, and optimism has carried her and her community through this year, and it's why I asked her to share her songs of solace for her Take 5. Fanny Lumsden has been making music since 2015, but her new album is what's really put her on the map. It's been nominated for seven Golden Guitar Awards, leading the pack. She's up for an ARIA for Best Country Album, and she's gained a whole lot more fans with this heartfelt and acclaimed new record. Fanny joined me from her property in Tooma to share her story, some beautiful songs, and a big dose of hope.
