Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This week Pip is joined by RHYS & EGGSY of GOLDIE LOOKIN CHAIN!Pip is joined by 2 remaining members of the Newport rap crew whose classic jam "Guns Don't Kill People (Rappers Do)" will surely be in your mind already... If you're unfamiliar, that would be a really good starting place to capture the vibe of these fun loving rap folks. For those of us who were around and present at the time the crew blew up, you'll have a mix of fond and irritating memories (through pure catchiness of said single), but it's all done with tongue in cheek and a good spirit of playfulness. Actually the beat on 'Guns...' is pretty tight tho... So enjoy this three-way chat covering many elements including working in retail, the road to music and fame, how's life in Newport, understanding accents, global success and even a bonus on-air scam call up top! The timing couldn't be more perfect. Have fun with, it's a nice revisit to a time a couple of decades ago, a time which is now on a nostalgia shelf but always worth looking back on.PIP'S PATREON PAGE if you're of a supporting natureGLC PODCAST (and HERE)GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLEHOMEPAGEINSTAGRAMSPEECH DEVELOPMENT WEBSTOREPIP TWITCH • (music stuff)PIP INSTAGRAMPIP TWITTERPIP PATREONPIP IMDBPOD BIBLE Hosted on Acast. As an end of year festive treat, please accept this special extra-long bumper package of some 2023 Worst Time Podcast highlights! Chris takes a look back at the year with some of his personal worst times from the likes of Larry & Paul, Lady Nade, Dub Pistols, Eva Bindeman, DJ Yoda, Goldie Lookin Chain, Jordan Gray and Dom Kidson. Thank you for listening to the Worst Time Podcast this year, the show will be back in 2024!
A titan of hip hop joins Chris on the podcast this week – Eggsy from Goldie Lookin Chain! With a 20 year career with GLC under his belt, Eggsy has plenty of worst time tales to share, including being stuck on bus in Germany when a terrible sickness struck, a mystery gifted cake resulting in the group being under the influence on live TV with Russell Brand & Carl Barrett and a recent bingo show performance that ended with abuse from a girl clutching a box of Frosties. Plus he teaches Chris how to make his favourite on-the-road snack – sausage rolls in a mug. Goldie Lookin Chain are touring all over the place at the moment. Check out their website for dates as well as some fantastic wreckhead recipes.
Rapper and songwriter, Rhys Hutchings, of the band 'Goldie Looking Chain', found time to chat with Steve Johnson, prior to the Cardiff leg of their UK tour.
Put 3 Welsh natives on a call together, and they end up talking a lot about Wales. In this episode, we've got in Eggsy (fka John) of Welsh icons Goldie Lookin Chain to chat with the Chief (fka Paul) about their two decades of friendship. Proving wherever you go in the world, you will meet someone from Cwmbran, Paul quickly made the transition from fan to mate after showing GLC round the Oslo clubs back in 2004. Fast forward 10+ years and Eggsy is jumping on a track for Paul's own rap act Subway Safari, as well as sharing "exclusive mixes" via a strictly underground audio-based Whatsapp group... Tangents aplenty, we discuss wrecked TV studios, unconventional crowdfunding campaigns, the bizarre tradition of the Christmas goblin and also find out who the hell 'Uncle Daddy' is. Nadolig Llawen, God Jul and see you on the Christmas walk!
Paul and Charlie are joined by Richard 'crackers' Cracknell to talk about Spurs' changing philosophy. Comedian Sam Avery discusses Everton's troubles, and Sam 'The Garms Dealer' Morgan talks about kitting out the stars. All that, plus Goldie Lookin Chain's Eggsy, and impressionist Alistair McGowan. Greg merrily delves into the world of Welsh Independence and asks his guests the crucial question: are you yes yet? This week, Greg is joined by Goldie Lookin Chain's Billy and Eggsy, who chat big magic books, samurai swords... and independence. (things went slightly off topic)As well as this, we head to Wrexham to chat to Dai Public, and hear from businessman and entrepreneur Tegid Roberts about what we can do differently economically in an independent Wales.Find us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and Facebook: @UYesYetGmail: UYesYet@gmail.com

With a standing capacity of 7,500, the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff is the largest events venue in the area. The Deputy Manager, Daniel Roberts, joins us on Sheer Isolation this week. He also works for Live Nation - one of the UK's largest music promoters. He talks about his 18 years working at the venue, gives an insight into the logistics of keeping musicians, comedians, their managers and promoters happy, and what he's been up to personally over the past six months while the Arena has remained closed. We also pay tribute to Stroud based musician and broadcaster, Marion Miller, who sadly passed away last week. Marion was behind the annual Quarry Gig and was a regular voice on the now silent Stroud FM. Music this week is a mix of fiddle-heavy folk rock from Gloucester's Folklaw, and Daniel chooses some Welsh hip-hop courtesy of Goldie Lookin Chain. The show is created by Kieran Moore in Trowbridge and Jon Ponting near Cricklade. Thank you for your continued positive feedback on this series. Musicians are very welcome to send us videos to feature as well as any news or streaming dates... sheerisolation@gmail.com
We talk to Newport-based singer-songwriter Jack Perrett on choosing music over sport after being inspired by Oasis, busking outside Kasabian and Liam Gallagher gigs, playing the famous Cavern Club, the invaluable support from Janice Long and his love for Newport. Jack also chooses Goldie Lookin Chain's debut album, Greatest Hits, as his favourite Welsh album and inducts it in to the Welsh Music Hall of Fame. Featuring new music from Dan Burridge.
