Have you ever heard a dude say that he would still bed Mary Anne from Gilligan's Island, even if she's currently 110 years old? Well, the same goes for Sandy in Grease. In fact, if those rambunctious teenaged gearheads hadn't soiled her white blouse, she might have remained a virgin. In my mind, she always will be. Youth is eternal in film. Because while Kenickie's Roman hands and Russian fingers were exploring the back seat of the 1939 Packard with Rizzo, Danny was tuning up Greased Lightnin' with nothing but a pink slip in mind. That's the terminology for reigning victorious in a good old fashioned drag race on the streets where the result is transferal of ownership by way of a pink DMV form. And it's also a term for underwear that's never been slipped past the knees. Which sweeps me back to glowing memories of Sandy. But why did they call the movie “Grease” instead of “Motor Oil”? Because grease is to be eaten, not poured into your engine. In fact, grease is one of the tastiest items to have ever pleasured the human palette. It slathers your frying pan. It butters your bread. It styles your hair. Or at least it did in the 1950's. Grease showed us a glimpse into that period's youth movement where sexual repression graduated from soda fountain sips to gyrating hips. It's a musical look into the often-painful process of teen self-discovery against centuries old religious indoctrination. And like all curious yungins, these rambunctious punks were ready to define their own style and music that counteracted the strict boredom their grandparents embodied. It was also an example of the prevailing winds of love as Sandy was hopefully devoted to Danny. I'm hopelessly devoted to this blunt before I watch Grease for the 14th time.

Born To Watch - A Movie Podcast

GREASE - was a pop culture musical phenomenon that took the world by storm and become a right of passage for any child in the 80s and beyond. The Born to Watch team tackles this classic and hand jive all the way to Graduation.Released over four decades ago, "Grease" (1978) remains an iconic and beloved musical that continues to captivate audiences of all ages with its infectious energy, memorable tunes, and timeless themes. Directed by Randal Kleiser and based on the 1971 musical of the same name by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, the film has solidified its place in cinematic history as a quintessential representation of 1950s nostalgia, high school romance, and the power of self-discovery. From its catchy melodies to its vibrant choreography, "Grease" radiates a distinct charm that has stood the test of time.Set in the summer of 1959, "Grease" follows the whirlwind romance between Danny Zuko (John Travolta), a leather-clad bad boy with a heart of gold, and Sandy Olsson (Olivia Newton-John), a wholesome Australian exchange student. After a chance encounter during their summer break, the couple faces the challenges of navigating the social dynamics of Rydell High School upon their unexpected reunion. Danny's tough-guy reputation clashes with Sandy's good-girl image, setting the stage for a delightful exploration of teenage identity, peer pressure, and the transformative power of love.At its core, "Grease" is a celebration of youthful exuberance and the trials and tribulations of teenage life. The film expertly captures the spirit of the 1950s, from the fashion and music to the burgeoning cultural shifts of the era. The lively musical numbers, including classics like "Summer Nights," "You're the One That I Want," and "Greased Lightnin'," are not only irresistibly catchy but also serve as windows into the characters' emotions and desires. The soundtrack's timeless appeal is a testament to its enduring popularity, with audiences across generations still tapping their feet and singing along.John Travolta's charismatic portrayal of Danny Zuko is a highlight of the film, as he effortlessly embodies the role of the lovable rebel torn between maintaining his tough image and pursuing genuine love. Olivia Newton-John's performance as Sandy is equally captivating, as she transitions from the demure, naive newcomer to a confident young woman unafraid to express her true self. The chemistry between Travolta and Newton-John is palpable, lending authenticity to their characters' emotional journey and making their on-screen romance all the more believable. The supporting cast adds depth and humor to the story, with standout performances from Stockard Channing as the sassy and rebellious Rizzo, Jeff Conaway as Danny's loyal friend Kenickie, and Didi Conn as the quirky and endearing Frenchy. Each character brings a unique flavor to the narrative, showcasing the diversity of personalities that make up the high school experience.Randal Kleiser's direction brings a visually vibrant and energetic atmosphere to "Grease." The film's iconic dance sequences, choreographed by Patricia Birch, are a sight to behold, combining slick moves and exuberant choreography that perfectly complement the film's lively musical numbers. The high-energy dance-off at the school carnival and the electrifying hand jive scene are just a few examples of the film's memorable moments that have become ingrained in popular culture.Beyond the catchy tunes and lively performances, "Grease" delves into relatable themes of self-acceptance and the challenges of finding one's identity in the face of societal expectations. The characters' struggles to fit in, overcome peer pressure, and forge genuine connections remain relevant to audiences today. The film's ultimate message of embracing one's true self and following one's heart resonates across generations, reminding viewers that authenticity and self-discovery are timeless pursuits. However, it's important to acknowledge that "Grease" has faced criticism for its portrayal of certain gender dynamics and its lack of diversity. The film primarily revolves around heterosexual relationships and conforms to traditional gender roles, which may be at odds with contemporary sensibilities. Moreover, the absence of racial diversity within the main cast and the predominantly white portrayal of a high school in the 1950s overlooks the multicultural reality of American schools during that period. In conclusion, "Grease" (1978) remains a cinematic gem that continues to shine brightly in the pantheon of musicals. Its infectious energy, unforgettable characters, and timeless themes make it a perennial favorite that has earned its place in the hearts of audiences worldwide. While it may not be without its flaws, the film's enduring charm, catchy music, and vibrant dance sequences ensure that it will remain a beloved classic for generations to come. "Grease" transports us back to a simpler time while reminding us that the journey of self-discovery and love is a universal and everlasting one. Please follow the Podcast and join our community at https://linktr.ee/borntowatchpodcast If you are looking to start a podcast and want a host or get guests to pipe in remotely, look no further than Riverside.fmClick the link below https://riverside.fm/?utm_campaign=campaign_1&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_source=rewardful&via=matthew

Lez Hang Out | A Lesbian Podcast

You know who else falls in love after just a kiss? Lesbians. This week, Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) hang out to talk about the classic 1978 musical romcom, Grease. We really wanted to talk about this movie, especially with the recent release of the spinoff tv series, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, which we honestly both really enjoyed!  Grease is, at its core, a deeply unserious campy coming out story for Danny Zuko. Over the summer he is out and free being his best gay self dancing with his guy friends and flexing his wrists to and fro. He's somehow both a himbo and a herbo all at the same time. But as soon as school starts back up, he's back to trying to be Mr. Tough Guy to reassure everyone about how manly he is. Danny falls for Sandy so fast, and then when he sees her again at school he panics like a typical useless baby gay. There is just something distinctly queer about Sandy and Danny's relationship. Danny Zuko is far from the only gay in this movie. Literally all of the Pink Ladies have a little something extra going on with one another. Marty is pretending to have boyfriends all over the world (we get it Marty, we totally believe that your penpals are totally real boyfriends), while Rizzo is faking having sex. They are always looking at each other in a deeply sexually charged manner and we know what's going on ladies, you can't fool us. Then we have the T-Birds. That's a dance troupe of gay men if we've ever seen one. Danny and Kenickie have absolutely got something going on or at least did in the past and you cannot convince us otherwise.  We know one thing for sure, Grease Should've Been Gay. Few labels informed my taste in music like Fierce Panda did as a teenager. Without them I'd have never heard Ash, 60ft Dolls, Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, The Bluetones, China Drum, Supergrass, Jimmy Eat World, Hundred Reasons, Coldplay, Art Brut, Embrace, Ultrasound, Kenickie, Bis, Idlewild, Placebo… I could go on… and on… While I can take or leave some of those bands now, as a teenager, all of them, without exception, were acts I cherished with all my indie kid heart. Fierce Panda was, and indeed is, ran by Simon Williams, who as an NME journalist during the period I fell in love with the paper, became something of a hero of mine. He was certainly very kind to me when I first moved to London some 17 years ago, making me cups of tea in the Fierce Panda office and even sorting out a few gigs for my then band Mavis. And so I was devastated to hear that Simon had hit some rough times – regular listeners will know about my own struggles with OCD, and the music industry isn't always the kindest for people with complicated brains. Simon appears to be on the mend and Fierce Panda remains an active concern. He's written a book about it all – the good times and the very, very bad. It's called Pandamonium! How Not to Run a Record Label and it's out now on Nine Eight books. We don't get into the blood and the guts on this episode, not literally, the book exists to tell that story. But I think what follows is an entertaining and insightful conversation with one of British music's most valued men. And if nothing else, the story about 'Wibbling Rivalry' is worth the entry fee. Dear ones, My life is a f**king magazine. Pages of projects, my life, twixting and twaining. I've grown up in them. You are your experience, and in the same way that you are what you sleep with, you become what you do, I guess.I wasn't sure whether to hammer your inboxes daily with micro-content, a la Patti Smith, in the run-up to my biggest news to date (beyond Psychomachia) or to just throw it ALL down here.Because what I really want to share is our. Beautiful. Single. (You can nab a pre-order of here). But it feels more honourable to make a cover star award of Geoff Travis, founder of Rough Trade - arguably the most important indie label in the history of the British recording industry.  We met as judges on the Doc n Roll Festival, he memorably said, “I bet you like performing,” as we hustled together for a group shot. He's right. Just gotta stay away from manifesting drama in one's personal life, and love you what you do - but like all those Wellness Live Ya Best Life aspirational platitudes - how do you jump off the cliff by a bungy rope if you ain't stapled in financially? When I went back to university at 25, bounding in all Educating Rita, like a spring daisy from another nervous breakdown/rehab (again), I did a BA in New Media Journalism and Radio, it taught me to be pretty self-sufficient and DIY, editing across media, coding, I was working in BBC Radio as a researcher by the second year, reporting at celeb parties and on September 11th, before making radio documentaries for 1XTRA, R2, etc. Authenticity has become more and more apparent to my sanity over the years. I've taught Media Ethics, Broadcasting, Pop video courses, loads of zine workshops with victims of torture, and minority groups, after school clubs - that sort of thing before getting more and more quasi-academic, and wannabe Doctor, shifting between teaching vocational media work to City & Guilds, B-Tec, undergrads and some Masters (in a particularly sketchy institution).  I've also consulted internationally for cash. I've become more and more capable over the years, but it also means I am pretty multi-skilled and good at problem solving, but it also prevents me from working to true calling. As life does for most people who have to earn a living.  The reality of being a writer and performer is that without compromise to industry demands, you're on your own.Which flips me back to Geoff Travis -  there was a crossover period when I was still trying to lecture and edit Ambit (Ambit won in the end, despite it being a charity, and the money not being as good as teaching, I felt more committed to the responsibility of helming this great institution).I invited Travis to give a guest lecture when I was leading a class on the Music Industry to American undergrads (employed by the brilliant writer, Heidi Dunbar James).  I was surprised what I knew, despite having written about music since my early days, DJing etc, you may know from PSYCHOMACHIA, which examines  the patriarchal nature of the 90s music industry as fiction, I've been around it forever -  before editing Ambit I was the “Off The Floor” editor of the arts on DJMag, but have never felt part of the boys club -  despite knowing so many of the wheeler dealers who have hustled through life making money from music -  we all feel like outsiders sometimes. My DJ moniker took a non-female angle, K-Rocka - a nickname, and it was through doing a series of lectures about the music industry in the UK, I kinda realised that actually I'm likely qualified as much as anyone else -  but the guest lecture from Geoff Travis was landmark - I hope you may have time to listen to this founder of Rough Trade, I've added the lecture as a podcast here.  It's a masterclass in independence. He's very cool, casually reeling out how he didn't sign The Stone Roses, and being at one of The Strokes first gigs, and not knowing that one of The Libertines was going to end up a heroin addict. There's also the pain of board meetings, not really being in it for the money, and the backend of the music industry. It's solid - thank you to the students of that class for their questions…Gil and I started sharing our work live in 2018.   He's what one may call a “professional musician”, his first A&R was John Niven and he's been signed to major labels and produced John Martyn among others. He was performing with Little Barrie when we met, at a book reading for Tony O'Neill (who also used to work in music, playing keys for my friend Kelli Ali, but also Kenickie, Marc Almond and others. His first book, Digging the Vein was published by Wrecking Ball Press who put my novel out). Gil and I became friends after that signing, and in the maelstrom of our relationship, his band with Little Barrie imploded - as bands do - despite their only single as Pet Weapons being loved and played by Lauren Laverne.Gil commenced on The Long Road of who am I, why am I, etc.  The important road.We collaborated before we got together -  co-writing a poem that introduced him at Red Gallery, 15 December 2015.  And by NOLA, 2018, we were making a film for Jeffrey Wengrofsky's festival in NYC, me writing a poem, chalking it up in the streets, filmed, and Gil then made music to accompany it.  We later showed it at the Liminality show at Gallery46, first performing together there. We then played other galleries, like the Bomb Factory in North London. In Berlin, The Social, Pikes Ibiza.   We've now done a couple of tours. Our friend Martyn Goodace did the Das Wasteland compilation which was our first  release, on vinyl, from Berlin days…We met Blang! Records boss Joe, who works with Paul and Jules, Beth and La, with his wife, after the first show we did out of lockdown, in Sheffield at Sidney & Matilda, a great venue, supporting Band of Holy Joy. (There's a documentary about Blang! Records which is worth finding - about antifolk and why they started)The sound guy at Sidney & Matilda was good, turned me onto local hip-hop poet Otis Mensah - but in the basement, people were conditioned to not stand close to each other and it felt like we were defo sharing air.  By the end of the tour - it was a futile underground party of sweat-filled sardine dancing in venues in Edinburgh and North Shields.  But that first night, it was that kinda romantic dream: a record label coming up to you after a show and showing interest.  Blang! Records were later doing a residency at the Hope n Anchor is Islington and asked us to play.  We filmed the shows for them, and they offered to put out a single.  Initially it was suggested we did it with Pink Eye Club on the flipside, but we played them Rock n Roll Is A Deathwish, after they'd chosen Paradise Burns - that's what's coming.  There are 50 lathe-cuts. The artwork's by the brilliant Bert Gilbert - “northern Marina Abramović” -  who's showing at the forthcoming Horror show at Somerset House, curated by Jane Pollard and Ian Forsyth (who directed 20000 Days with Nick Cave).  We've done a beautiful UV spot bespoke print and they really are limited and beautiful. Bert used Gustave Doré as her main influence on the piece.  A modernised rising of a new enlightenment, we can but dream.David Erdos has been super-kind in his review of the single in International Times. Comparing us to everyone between early Dylan (the first record I ever DJed was Subterranean Homesick Blues), and my vox being halfway between Wendy James and Siouxie Sioux. (It's in that link…he's a genius, love his acting too…)****I would like to invite you to our single launch at Rough Trade East on Wednesday -  there are some free tickets, but they are going fast…Jonny Halifax Invocation, Sharon Gal, Savage Pencil, Gil, some poets, we'll all be celebrating the first look of The War Issue of Ambit, which coincidently is equinox (the end of summer) and World Peace Day. I began talking about this “War issue” of Ambit back in 2020, with a submission that stood out, and went public on it in April. It's resulted in 50+ international contributors selected by myself and my brilliant co-editors in Beirut, Sarah Chalabi and Zeina Chamseddine of Dongola Books. We launch in Beirut,  supported by British Council Lebanon, 18 November. There's so much to say about this issue -  and the magazine does it.  Order here.  It's a reaction to the spectacle of War we receive in mass media through mainly direct experiences from Poets, Writers, Artists.  For me, it says more than most news orgs.****If you sneak onto our Bandcamp - you'll see the artwork, but as there's a holiday tomorrow, perhaps I'll have time to make a lil video.x. Welcome to 'Don't You Want Me?' - a podcast series taking a lighthearted look at the most relatable, intriguing and dysfunctional relationships in film.  In this episode, we're hopelessly devoted to 1978's not-so shy and retiring musical GREASE, directed by Randal Kleiser. With a screenplay by Bronte Woodard and Allan Carr and based on the stage show written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, this oiled-up extravaganza and is still one of the highest-grossing movie musicals ever made and remains embedded in popular culture like the milkshake stain you can't get out of your jeans. Tonight we'll be splashing around with Sandy and Danny, before heading to the drive-in with Kenickie and Rizzo. Are the two central relationships in this movie electrifying, or are we throwing our lives away on a dream that won't come true? Today we tackle 1978's mighty (Grease). Tackle? Well maybe we just letter in track. I realized just now that this movie is like Lemmy to me. It's got some big warts but it flippin rules! Yes I can love showtunes and Motörhead. This film did bring back fabulous musicals and in a time where I feel it was needed. Producer Allan Carr made sure that we were all fed off of its pizazz. Lots of coded stuff here and magic to help those who could use it to survive in a cruel and harsh world. Special place in this crew persons heart because me, some of my sisters, and my closeted Dad would sing and literally learn all the routines to these songs, and mom could catch a break fer a minute. Great creative family fun time. Some great memories amongst some ruff ones living in a small oppressive Catholic town. Join us won't you as we all go get a hickey from Kenickie. Stephen Lobo's filmography is populated by characters who, despite being wildly different from each other, are nearly identical in how hard they fight for what they want: earnest Dev on Arctic Air; take-no-prisoners Kellog on Continuum; womanizing head chef Ramir on Godiva's. It's something that Stephen himself has exemplified since his very first time on stage in a community theatre production of Grease (that also featured future podcast host Sabrina Furminger and future Broadway star Ramin Karimloo) – and in his case, it's all about craft and characters. In this freewheeling and contemplative conversation, Stephen reflects on his journey from Kenickie to Ramir to Kellog and beyond, and the remarkable artists he's worked with along the way. Jeff Conaway had a much-publicized battle with alcohol and drug addiction and there was speculation that he died of an overdose. However, forensic pathologist, Dr Michael Hunter, does not believe this is necessarily the case. Next week… Bob Marley. Dr. Hunter reveals what killed the reggae music legend at just 36.

http://yourkickasslife.com/167     “They call me Cha Cha...because I’ m the best dancer at St. Bernadette’s” Everyone has their favorite character from the movie Grease. Maybe you relate to Sandy and her quest for true love, or goofball Frenchie. For me, my absolute love affair has always been with the character Cha Cha DiGregorio. Of course she’s a fictional character, played in the movie version by the late Annette Charles, but even as a child I’ve loved her. She played a smaller role in the movie, but it didn’t matter to me. Everything she was about, I loved. However, the attributes of her character that I adored about her, are also the things we, as women, are not particularly celebrated for. In other words, even in the movie, Cha Cha was not well liked. First, we are introduced to Cha Cha by Kenickie, where she says, “They call me Cha Cha...because I’m the best dancer at St. Bernadette’s” This woman actually does what we are told not to do: brags about herself. She knows she’s the best damn dancer and she tells people SHE JUST MET. HELL YES. And holy crap, she IS a great dancer. Then, she sees Danny on the dance floor, grabs him and they start dancing, Sandy storms off in a huff. Sandy could have stood up to Cha Cha, she could have said, “Hey Danny, WTF, you came to the dance with me so why are you dancing her her?” But noooo, since we all love Sandy so much, we all feel sorry for her and hate Cha Cha for being such a bitch. Here she is leaving all “WAHHH, someone stole my date and I won’t fight to get him back.” But, the way I looked at it was WOW. Cha Cha sees what she wants and goes after it. And no, I don’t condone snatching other people’s dates, but if we look at this strictly as symbolism, Cha Cha is a woman who doesn’t give a shit if she hurts someone’s feelings. She’s not concerned about “playing nice” So, she and Danny and killing it on the dance floor, and then this happens Holy shit. Again, ZERO FUCKS this woman. She couldn’t care less that everyone can see her underwear (bloomers?) and that Danny is basically sitting on her face in front of God and everybody, including the whole school and teachers. Plus, since she goes to St. Bernadette's’, you bet your ass that’s a Catholic school where this kind of behavior is is frowned upon. But, guess who doesn’t care? That’s right, Cha Cha Digregorio. After the most epic hand jive in the history of the universe commences, OBVIOUSLY with Cha Cha being the dance contest winner (well, you were good too, Danny, but you would have been nothing without her), based on the sheer enthusiasm she has for dancing. I mean, we could all take a lesson from her on doing something you love and running head first into the euphoria of it. Then, the teacher comes out to award the trophy and does Cha Cha patiently wait to have it handed to her? NOPE, she straight up and down snatches that trophy and proudly waves it around with a look on her face of I AM THE GREATEST DANCER THAT EVER LIVED WHY WOULD THERE BE ANY QUESTION EVER THAT THIS TROPHY IS MINE. God, I love this woman. Obviously, I’m not saying everyone should take other people’s boyfriends and dance partners whenever they feel like it. I am however, asking you to take a closer look at this character and see the parts of her many of us can take lessons from. LIFE LESSONS FROM CHARLENE “CHA CHA” DIGREGORIO She sees what she wants and goes after it. She saw an opportunity and went after it. Where in your life have you passed up opportunities because you didn’t think you were qualified enough, smart enough- basically not good enough? Probably somewhere. Would Cha Cha pass up that opportunity for a promotion? Nope. Would she not speak up in a meeting because she felt other people wouldn’t like her ideas? Nope again. She knows deserves it and if it doesn’t work out? Meh, there’s always next time. There will always be a next time. She owns her superpower. She knows she is a great dancer. She tells people. She doesn’t care that other people are great dancers too. She allows herself to be free, embraces it, and even breaks the rules to fully throw herself into her dancing. Would Cha Cha be worried that other people might judge her dancing? Not a chance. I hope you can look in the mirror, know your superpower, and LOVE yourself for it. When people clearly don’t like her, she gives exactly zero fucks about it. When Frenchie mentions Cha Cha’s “worst reputation” I thought the gym would light on fire with the glare she shoots Frenchie. Cha Cha seems to have no female friends, only the boys and she doesn’t care. She could have burst into tears, she could have chased the Pink Ladies around trying to be friends, she could have apologized to Sandy for stealing her date, but she does. Not. Care. She’s not there to make friends, she’s there to have a good time. Of course I’m all for friendships-- but where in your life could you ease up on giving so many shits about what everyone thinks? Where are you spending a metric shit-ton of energy worrying if people are talking about your or not? From now on when I’m doubting myself, or worried about anything, I’m going to ask myself, “What would Cha Cha DiGregorio do?” And I hope you can adopt that too.

Week 14 - We take a realistic look into the unrealistic world of romantic comedies that we LOVE to hate. This Week: Must Love Dogs (2005) Starring John Cusack and Diane Lane. An impossible movie about people who don't exist, and somehow a dog is involved. (LEAVE THE DOGS OUT OF THIS) We ask the tough questions this week: What. The. Fuck? Are these real people? (Of course not) Why is Diane Lane arguing about getting a bargain on chicken? Why is Dennis Reynolds in this? Is EVERYONE in this movie going through a divorce? (Even the kids?!) Is this a culmination/sequel of every shitty movie we have put ourselves through? & to old Rizzo: What was marriage to Kenickie like? Heh? This Week: Grease (1978) Starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. An impossible movie about summer lovin'. We ask the tough questions this week: What is Kenickie's home life like? This week is a sureshot slammer as Pip is joined by the long-hinted at national treasure Lauren Laverne! A perfect broadcasting-based chat as Pip and Lauren get along like old mates, venturing easily back and forth into her past and present and covering all necessary awesomeness along the way. We get all the scoops on her early days with pop band Kenickie (surely at least a few of you out there are still holding onto a comprehensive back catalogue), her humble but broadminded Sunderland upbringing in a 'cultural tardis' surrounded by all kinds of music, the cynicism poured over programmes like 'Geordie Shore' and such like, her illustrious career in both television and radio, which currently finds her comfortably holding the fort down on her BBC 6Music slot and boasting a 2 million-plus listenership, and her website The Pool, which is a fantastic female-centric website that demands your... Sick City (Harper Perennial) Tony O'Neill will return to Skylight Books to read from and sign his newest novel, Sick City! "Sick City is fun, twisted and brutal. One of the best books written about LA in a long time. O'Neill could be our generation's Jim Thompson." --James Frey (A Million Little Pieces, Bright Shining Morning) "Fans of Chuck Palahniuk and Warren Ellis will cherish this twisted tale." --Publishers Weekly (starred review) "Tony O'Neill writes about the Hollywood I know as well as any writer alive. His characters are a punch in the face, scorchingly real. His dialogue is note-perfect and could only have been lived in the moment-by-moment life of one who has sat on a curb and pondered his next jive and shuck while searching for cigarette butts." --Dan Fante (Chump Change, Mooch, Spitting Off Tall Buildings) Tony O'Neill's books include Digging the Vein, Down and Out on Murder Mile, and the New York Times bestselling Hero of the Underground (which he co-authored).  He is also the co-author of Neon Angel: A Memoir of a Runaway, by Cherie Currie.  O'Neill's essays, poems, and short stories have appeared extensively online and in print. He is a survivor of heroin addiction, crack abuse, rehab, fatherhood, and stints in the Brian Jonestown Massacre, Kenickie, and Marc Almond's band. He lives in New York with his wife and daughter. THIS EVENT TOOK PLACE AT SKYLIGHT BOOKS ON JULY 28, 2010.
