Three times I begged the Lord about this, that it might leave me, but he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.” I will rather boast most gladly of my weaknesses, in order that the power of Christ may dwell with me. Therefore, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and constraints, for the sake of Christ for when I am weak, then I am strong.

Here's Fr. Bart Tolleson's homily from Wed, Sept. 16th: "Love Never Fails".  Enjoy! 1 Cor 12:31-13:13 Brothers and sisters:Strive eagerly for the greatest spiritual gifts. But I shall show you a still more excellent way. If I speak in human and angelic tonguesbut do not have love,I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal. And if I have the gift of prophecyand comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge;if I have all faith so as to move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give away everything I own,and if I hand my body over so that I may boastbut do not have love, I gain nothing.Love is patient, love is kind.It is not jealous, love is not pompous,it is not inflated, it is not rude,it does not seek its own interests,it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury,it does not rejoice over wrongdoingbut rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.Love never fails. If there are prophecies, they will be brought to nothing;if tongues, they will cease;if knowledge, it will be brought to nothing. For we know partially and we prophesy partially, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. When I was a child, I used to talk as a child, think as a child, reason as a child;when I became a man, I put aside childish things. At present we see indistinctly, as in a mirror, but then face to face.At present I know partially;then I shall know fully, as I am fully known. So faith, hope, love remain, these three;but the greatest of these is love.

Matt. 18:21-35 Peter approached Jesus and asked him,“Lord, if my brother sins against me,how often must I forgive? As many as seven times?” Jesus answered, “I say to you, not seven times but seventy-seven times. That is why the kingdom of heaven may be likened to a kingwho decided to settle accounts with his servants. When he began the accounting,a debtor was brought before him who owed him a huge amount. Since he had no way of paying it back, his master ordered him to be sold, along with his wife, his children, and all his property,in payment of the debt. At that, the servant fell down, did him homage, and said,‘Be patient with me, and I will pay you back in full.’Moved with compassion the master of that servantlet him go and forgave him the loan. When that servant had left, he found one of his fellow servantswho owed him a much smaller amount. He seized him and started to choke him, demanding,‘Pay back what you owe.’Falling to his knees, his fellow servant begged him,‘Be patient with me, and I will pay you back.’But he refused. Instead, he had the fellow servant put in prisonuntil he paid back the debt. Now when his fellow servants saw what had happened, they were deeply disturbed, and went to their masterand reported the whole affair. His master summoned him and said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you your entire debt because you begged me to. Should you not have had pity on your fellow servant,as I had pity on you?’Then in anger his master handed him over to the torturersuntil he should pay back the whole debt. So will my heavenly Father do to you, unless each of you forgives your brother from your heart.”

Marc's homily from March 29th, "Lazarus, Come Out".   John 11:1-45 Now a man was ill, Lazarus from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha.Mary was the one who had anointed the Lord with perfumed oiland dried his feet with her hair;it was her brother Lazarus who was ill. So the sisters sent word to him saying,“Master, the one you love is ill.”When Jesus heard this he said,“This illness is not to end in death, but is for the glory of God,that the Son of God may be glorified through it.”Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. So when he heard that he was ill,he remained for two days in the place where he was. Then after this he said to his disciples,“Let us go back to Judea.”The disciples said to him,“Rabbi, the Jews were just trying to stone you,and you want to go back there?”Jesus answered,“Are there not twelve hours in a day?If one walks during the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. But if one walks at night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.”He said this, and then told them,“Our friend Lazarus is asleep, but I am going to awaken him.”So the disciples said to him,“Master, if he is asleep, he will be saved.”But Jesus was talking about his death, while they thought that he meant ordinary sleep. So then Jesus said to them clearly,“Lazarus has died. And I am glad for you that I was not there, that you may believe.Let us go to him.”So Thomas, called Didymus, said to his fellow disciples,“Let us also go to die with him.” When Jesus arrived, he found that Lazarushad already been in the tomb for four days. Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, only about two miles away. And many of the Jews had come to Martha and Maryto comfort them about their brother. When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went to meet him;but Mary sat at home.Martha said to Jesus,“Lord, if you had been here,my brother would not have died. But even now I know that whatever you ask of God,God will give you.”Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise.”Martha said to him,“I know he will rise,in the resurrection on the last day.”Jesus told her,“I am the resurrection and the life;whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.Do you believe this?”She said to him, “Yes, Lord.I have come to believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God,the one who is coming into the world.” When she had said this, she went and called her sister Mary secretly, saying,“The teacher is here and is asking for you.”As soon as she heard this, she rose quickly and went to him.For Jesus had not yet come into the village, but was still where Martha had met him.So when the Jews who were with her in the house comforting hersaw Mary get up quickly and go out, they followed her, presuming that she was going to the tomb to weep there. When Mary came to where Jesus was and saw him,she fell at his feet and said to him,“Lord, if you had been here,my brother would not have died.”When Jesus saw her weeping and the Jews who had come with her weeping,he became perturbed and deeply troubled, and said,“Where have you laid him?”They said to him, “Sir, come and see.”And Jesus wept.So the Jews said, “See how he loved him.”But some of them said,“Could not the one who opened the eyes of the blind manhave done something so that this man would not have died?” So Jesus, perturbed again, came to the tomb.It was a cave, and a stone lay across it.Jesus said, “Take away the stone.”Martha, the dead man’s sister, said to him,“Lord, by now there will be a stench;he has been dead for four days.”Jesus said to her,“Did I not tell you that if you believeyou will see the glory of God?”So they took away the stone. And Jesus raised his eyes and said, “Father, I thank you for hearing me.I know that you always hear me;but because of the crowd here I have said this, that they may believe that you sent me.”And when he had said this,He cried out in a loud voice,“Lazarus, come out!”The dead man came out, tied hand and foot with burial bands, and his face was wrapped in a cloth. So Jesus said to them,“Untie him and let him go.” Now many of the Jews who had come to Maryand seen what he had done began to believe in him.

Romans 5: 1-8 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access [by faith] to this grace in which we stand, and we boast in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we even boast of our afflictions, knowing that affliction produces endurance, and endurance, proven character, and proven character, hope, and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the holy Spirit that has been given to us. For Christ, while we were still helpless, yet died at the appointed time for the ungodly. Indeed, only with difficulty does one die for a just person, though perhaps for a good person one might even find courage to die. But God proves his love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us.

Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, awaiting the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spiritthat he should not see deathbefore he had seen the Christ of the Lord.He came in the Spirit into the temple;and when the parents brought in the child Jesusto perform the custom of the law in regard to him,he took him into his arms and blessed God, saying: “Now, Master, you may let your servant goin peace, according to your word, for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you prepared in the sight of all the peoples:a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel.” The child’s father and mother were amazed at what was said about him;and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother,“Behold, this child is destinedfor the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be contradicted--and you yourself a sword will pierce--so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”There was also a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived seven years with her husband after her marriage, and then as a widow until she was eighty-four.She never left the temple, but worshiped night and day with fasting and prayer. And coming forward at that very time, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the childto all who were awaiting the redemption of Jerusalem. When they had fulfilled all the prescriptionsof the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom;and the favor of God was upon him.

With Pope Francis taking the helm of the Catholic Church six years ago, there's been a decided divide between the conservative and liberal wings of the Church body.  Early on Francis was a media darling. Liberals love him for his more personal, humble approach to Christian doctrine. While conservatives still long for the good ole days of Pope Benedict XVI, the now retired pontiff who was more comfortable in the world of theological academics than in the vast splendor of the Vatican's top spot. Enter into this fray, Father Joseph Fessio, the "founder and editor of Ignatius Press, which is the primary English-language publisher of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI's writings and the publisher of Catholic World Report." Fr. Fessio joins Lighthouse Faith Podcast to talk about all things Catholic: the sex abuse crisis, the draining membership of the Catholic faithful, and of course the philosophical fissure that has grown larger since Francis became the Bishop of Rome. How can the Church move forward comfortably when there seems to be more that divides it than unites it? It can be done. But requires a return of true faith, not one mired in politics and secular group think. Here's Fr. Fessio's vision of the future.
