What do you do when you're the Christian entrepreneur everyone looks up to, yet you're lying awake at 2 AM, stressed about money? In this raw and personal episode, I share what happened this week when money I was counting on got delayed by 4 to 6 weeks and the emotional toll it took.If you've ever asked God, “Why is this still happening?” you're not alone.Inside the episode:The loneliness of financial pressure when you lead othersI wondered if God was punishing me for past mistakesThe 3 things I focus on every morning to keep movingHow serving others during your storm brings unexpected peaceWhy I'm still standing and not giving up
Jesus said to his Apostles: “No disciple is above his teacher,no slave above his master. It is enough for the disciple that he become like his teacher, for the slave that he become like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more those of his household!“Therefore do not be afraid of them.Nothing is concealed that will not be revealed, nor secret that will not be known. What I say to you in the darkness, speak in the light;what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops. And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul;rather, be afraid of the one who can destroyboth soul and body in Gehenna. Are not two sparrows sold for a small coin?Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father's knowledge.Even all the hairs of your head are counted. So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.Everyone who acknowledges me before othersI will acknowledge before my heavenly Father. But whoever denies me before others,I will deny before my heavenly Father.”
Many people see whatever part of what I do, think that's everything, and conclude I'm just doing some personal action or other form of spitting into the wind.I don't like wasting my time any more than anyone else does, nor do I want to see people continuing toLower earth's ability to sustain lifeDestroy others' life, liberty, or property without the consentDeplete from nature to where there is not enough as good in common for othersI'm partly insulted that they think I'm wasting my time or that I haven't developed a comprehensive plan that stops all those things that works at every stage, mainly by working on people's existing motivations. It's based on the Spodek Method and other effective leadership techniques.I posted a series of videos I call A Short Course in Sustainability Leadership that outlines the plan. I designed it for people who want to act and lead, not abdicate and capitulate like nearly everyone else. I recommend watching the videos, which are on this page, but I'm posting the audio here.To follow up: The videos of this courseMy book, Sustainability SimplifiedThe Workshop and community Hosted on Acast. Who cuts a channel for the torrents of rain, and a path for the thunderstorm, to water a land where no one lives, an uninhabited desert (Job 38:25-26)Most people didn't view the Great Depression as the best time to launch a toy company. But that's exactly when LEGO, the most successful toy brand of all time, was born. The company's founder, a devout Christian aptly named Ole Kirk Christiansen, had spent years building a traditional carpentry business. But by the early 1930s, business was slumping while his debts were soaring. So he pivoted to making toys like yo-yos, toy cars, and eventually LEGO bricks. And everyone told him he was out of his mind.“I think you're much too good for that, Christiansen,” one friend said. “Why don't you find something more useful to do!” The world was in crisis after all. People needed food, not toys. But Christiansen disagreed. In his own playful life and the life of the business he created to help others play well, Christiansen demonstrated a deep understanding of this truth: We mere Christians can glorify God by embracing fun, beauty, play, and “useless” work because our heavenly Father does the same. That's what we see in today's passage. God says that he sends “torrents of rain...to water a land where no one lives.” Why would God make it rain in an uninhabited desert? Apparently just for the fun of it!Commenting on this verse, theologian Dr. R. Paul Stevens says that God's playful nature should produce in his people a “freedom from the tyranny of utility.” In other words, godly play—not just productivity—pleases God.I'll be the first to admit that I am glacially slow to learning this. But by God's grace I am coming to see that play is productive for my soul and my goals. As Dr. Stuart Brown says, “In the long run, work does not work without play.”If you, like me, are not used to playing, let me encourage you to adopt this practice I recently found very helpful: Take stock of your play history. Ask yourself what you did as a kid or as an adult that felt like play. Based on my study of the work of Dr. Brown and others, I define play as any activity that has these 5 characteristics:I would say I “get” to do it rather than “have” to do itI lose track of time while I'm doing itI can't wait to do it againI can't stop talking about it with othersI have no deadline to complete the activityOnce you've made a list of things that have historically felt like play, schedule 30-90 minutes this week to engage in one of those activities knowing that you, like LEGO's founder, can glorify God as you do!

What is the higher-dimensional perspective of coming into power?I have already connected with my multidimensional self but since knowing that we live in a Matrix, I have experienced my body freezing and 70% of my Chakras have been shut. What can I do about this?Messages on tolerating VS accepting what is, and needing to fix oneself in order to help others or feel capable of doing healing work with othersI've been experiencing pretty intense retching and nausea, and it tends to happen when I'm emotionally or energetically focused on something that I may have suppressed in the past, sometimes it will happen during meditation or breathwork. What's happening and what can I do to change this?I'm really passionate about spaceships and technology, yet I found myself depressed about life. I'm struggling to see a path forward, what guidance or practice should I embrace to overcome these challenges?

Everybody knows what it feels like to have a guilty conscience. To have done something we know we should't have done. And as we get older, we get more sophisticated at justifying our questionable behaviour to ourselves. If we're honest, we all still do things from time to time that we know we probably shouldn't do but we're way better at convincing ourselves why it's really not that bad.We say things ourselves like…..I'm a good personI try to do the right thingsI'm kind be kind to othersI pay my taxes.I don't stealI try not to liehaven't murdered anyone….I'm trying to be a decent contributing member of society….So, this little sin over here…. or this little white lie over there …..this little secret over here… it isn't really hurting anyone…so it's not so bad, right?!Church & Culture:In Church we tend to major on the grace message and minor on the sin message because it's more comfortable. It's more palatable and acceptable to talk about the positive stuff than the hard stuff. When we talk about grace we're assuming the reality of sin but just don't really like to talk about it that much.In 2024, we find ourselves living in a very individualistic culture where it's more about ‘your' truth than ‘The' truth. Where, ‘you do you' is widely accepted often over and above the way of life Jesus calls us to if we choose to follow him and be his disciples. The thing is though, the bible doesn't shy away from talking about the hard stuff - we just often have selective hearing and selective reading.Today's scripture: Matt 5:4‘Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted' (NIV)Jesus makes a radical statement here - we would never say to someone who is grieving would we? Oh, you're grieving, look how blessed you are!And if someone said that to us in the middle of a difficult time in our lives we would probably not receive it well at all.It poses some big questions for us:What is Jesus actually saying? What kind of mourning is he talking about? What kind of comfort is he promising? How can experiencing grief possibly be the good life?Who was Jesus talking to?- Jewish villagers under Roman occupation- Ordinary people - farmers, fishermen, women, children, tax collectors, sex workers.living under the oppression of Roman rule, they've all but lost hope of any kind of deliveranc and believing their current circumstance is a direct result of their sinful ways - they had turned away from God and not been faithful to him. They were mourning a future that felt hopelessThey were mourning over their own sin and brokennessThey were mourning over the state of their cityWhat kind of mourning was Jesus talking about?Mourn - Greek verb = Pentheo - to mourn over one's sin and brokenness (spiritual mourning over the state of one's soul and circumstance)We struggle to identify with this kind of mourning - it's counter-cultural to us and a lot of the time, we honestly don't see ourselves as people in need of a saviour.“The present age is definitely not an age of mourning. Instead, people deliberately turn away from anything unpleasant, determined to fill their lives with those things which will divert their minds from anything serious. In their preoccupation with momentary pleasures and diversions, people settle for shallow and empty substitutes for reality. Millions give more thought to what programs they will watch tonight on TNT, or what videotape they will rent for the weekend than they do to the things of eternity.” - Billy Graham -Jesus is saying this kind of mourning is necessary. Not just necessary - but good for us - ‘the good life'.In other words, “You're blessed when you can humbly acknowledge your sin and brokenness and grieve over it, for then you shall receive the comfort of forgiveness and healing”.But there's also a school of thought that would say Jesus wasn't just talking about personal sin and brokenness but the grief and sadness that comes from living in a world ruled by death - in this earthly world where death has the final word - but in the Kingdom Jesus is talking about, death is swallowed up in victory and the promise is eternal comfort and eternal life. The invitation in this scripture is to be present to our grief - to be honest to it with God - and not to ignore our need for comfort. What kind of comfort is Jesus talking about?Greek //Comfortedπαρακαλέω / parakaleó (verb)Q: comforted by who or what?Comforterπαράκλητος (paraklētos) (noun)PARACLETE - One called alongside to standby.Amazingly - this is same word that we see in John 14 & 16 that Jesus uses to describe the Holy Spirit who was coming. When we ignore our need for comfort we cannot invite The Comforter into those places of pain to bring us the help and the relief that we so desperately need. The Promise:Help is on the way!You do not have to be alone in your grief. The Paraclete has been called to come and stand alongside youHe will advocate for youHe will console you The promise is not that our grief would be removed instantaneously - but that in the midst of our grief and our pain we would experience the deep comfort of the Paraclete - our advocate, our counsellor and our standby.“You're blessed when you feel you've lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you. (MSG)

To those under the law I became as one under the law (though not being myself under the law) that I might win those under the law.21Tothose outside the law I becameas one outside the law (not being outside the law of God butunder the law of Christ) that I might win those outside the law.22To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak.I have become all things to all people, thatby all means I might save some.23I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings. 24Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receivesthe prize? The Importance of Advocating for Yourself and OthersI always try to find the meaning behind why things are happening and the lessons that can be learned along the way. This journey has not been an easy one, and I am grateful to have this space to share my thoughts and reflections with such a supportive community. As mentioned in this episode, I recently learned that my ankle had a bone displacement that required surgery in order for me to regain full use and mobility without persisting pain. I get real honest and dish out all the details, so listen to this episode to hear more about: My experience and the kinds of support I received while navigating internal and external challenges during my ankle healing journey; The ways that my work as a professor and lawyer helps me relate this journey to my understanding of health policy, caregiving, and legal advocacy for others; The importance of advocating for yourself and others, especially in a healthcare and caregiving context. Being an advocate means doing everything in your power to provide a voice and making sure that you or the other person receives the necessary care and support. Reading 1 Jer 20:10-13 Jeremiah said:"I hear the whisperings of many:'Terror on every side!Denounce! let us denounce him!'All those who were my friendsare on the watch for any misstep of mine.'Perhaps he will be trapped; then we can prevail, and take our vengeance on him.'But the LORD is with me, like a mighty champion:my persecutors will stumble, they will not triumph. In their failure they will be put to utter shame,to lasting, unforgettable confusion.O LORD of hosts, you who test the just, who probe mind and heart, let me witness the vengeance you take on them, for to you I have entrusted my cause.Sing to the LORD,praise the LORD,for he has rescued the life of the poorfrom the power of the wicked!"Reading 2 Rom 5:12-15 Brothers and sisters:Through one man sin entered the world, and through sin, death, and thus death came to all men, inasmuch as all sinned—for up to the time of the law, sin was in the world, though sin is not accounted when there is no law.But death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who did not sinafter the pattern of the trespass of Adam, who is the type of the one who was to come. But the gift is not like the transgression. For if by the transgression of the one the many died, how much more did the grace of Godand the gracious gift of the one man Jesus Christoverflow for the many.Gospel Mt 10:26-33 Jesus said to the Twelve:"Fear no one.Nothing is concealed that will not be revealed, nor secret that will not be known. But whoever denies me before others,I will deny before my heavenly Father."

Five for Friday Show NotesTeaser:This week was all about leadership as a concept. What is leadership? Beyond what leadership is, we looked out how leaders gain power, and the ability they have to build – or destroy. In today's episode I will deviate significantly from the short messages of the week and expand on these important themes. This week's big idea: Real leadership is about peopleHello colleagues and welcome to The Assistant Principal Podcast, I'm your host Dr. Frederick Buskey. I've been growing leaders and future leaders for over 30 years. Through my own experiences, and through working with hundreds of other leaders, I've learned that school leadership is a journey that occurs in three phases:Urgent leaders spend their time completing tasks, but…Intentional leaders invest their time building systems. However…Strategic leaders create time by growing people. In 2018 I founded Strategic Leadership Consulting to help make this journey more enjoyable for leaders like you. Through my daily email, monthly micro-journal, online community, my upcoming book, and, of course, this podcast, I keep you company on this journey and provide you with actionable ideas and tools to live and lead better today and tomorrow.Today's episode of Five for Friday recaps the strategic leadership emails for the week of January 30-February 2, 2023. Can you believe we are through January already? I'm just now getting used to saying 2023. Monday:“Being in the left lane of a superhighway with a string of cars behind you does not make you a leader. It may just mean you're slow and too stupid to get out of the way.”-Dr. Jacque Jacobs, Mentor, Professor Emeritus, and so much moreSo if having people behind doesn't define leadership, what does? Some quotes from scholars (none of these appeared in the weekly emails): “Leadership is not a person or a position. It is a complex moral relationship between people, based on trust, obligation, commitment, emotion, and a shared vision of the good.” – Joanne Ciulla, philosopher and director of The Institute for Ethical Leadership “Leadership is influence – nothing more, nothing less.” – John Maxwell If you want to govern the people, you must place yourself below them. If you want to lead the people, you must learn how to follow them.” – Attributed to Lao Tzu “Intentional use of power to influence a person or people to achieve a specific outcome.” – Frederick Buskey From here Wednesday and Thursday talked about power, specifically three forms: Legitimate Expert Referent Hierarchical v. non-hierarchicalMain point: cultivating your expert and referent power helps you be able to mentor othersI wrapped up the week trying to drive this point home by asking you to think about the mentor's you have had in your life, and then work to emulate some of what made them have such a profound influence. One of the missed opportunities in my career was realizing too late the influence I had on my colleagues. It has only been in the past five years that I have consciously begun mentoring people, but in reflecting I realize I have been unconsciously doing it for almost 20 years. If I had been more intentional, I could have had a bigger impact. So that is my invitation to you. Think about the power you hold. Legitimate power yes, but much more importantly think about the expert and referent power you hold. Embrace it. Use it. Be intentional about mentoring others and helping them grow. Before we close: Dr. Ryan Donlan was our guest this past Tuesday and we discussed coaching up down and around as an assistant principal. It is a great show for anyone wanting to be more intentional about mentoring – and leading – others. And… in Friday's email I invited people to share with me the stories about their mentors. If you have someone who has had a profound positive impact on you, consider doing this:Record a 1-3 minute tribute and email it to me at frederick@frederickbuskey.com. I will do my best to work your tribute into an upcoming show so you can publicly acknowledge someone important. Share a quick story or a list of qualities, or just say thank you. I'll do my best to get your tribute on the show. That is this week's Five for Friday rendition of The Assistant Principal Podcast. If you enjoyed today's show, please forward it. I'll give a shoutout to my new LinkedIn friend, a school head in Kuala Lumpur who found the podcast because someone shared it with him and said, you should listen.” If you are finding value in the show, please forward the show link to a colleague and say “you have got to listen to this.”Thank you for including me on your leadership journey. This episode marks my 30th episode, and I am beyond excited to have you here with me-thank you for being here!!Something I get asked about often is intermittent fasting, and if it's something I recommend for my clients to be doing. I have my own thoughts on the topic because I've actually experienced it myself, and I want to help you decide if it's right for you on your health and fitness journey. In today's episode, I'm talking about:-My introduction to intermittent fasting-How my mindset changed the longer I was doing intermittent fasting-Really digging into WHY you're wanting to pursue intermittent fasting, and if it makes sense for your health and fitness goals-Why intermittent fasting may work better for some people compared to othersI really want you to consider why you're wanting to practice intermittent fasting, especially if you've been in that restrictive, ‘all or nothing' mindset before. Are you wanting to do it in order to be healthier overall, or do you think it will be an ‘easier' way for you to lose weight? You may intend to start something with good intentions, but over time, your mindset can change, and it can turn into something negative. Intermittent fasting is definitely not a bad thing, but I want you to have the knowledge and be able to make the right decision for YOU and your health, for the long-term!Check out my brand NEW 1-1 coaching program, where we cut the BS, and learn what to do to get the results you want-for life! https://www.kristycastillo.com/coachingConnect with me over on Instagram @kristycastillofit so we can keep this conversation going! For more help with your health and fitness goals, check out my programs at: https://www.kristycastillo.com/workout-programsIf you're looking for more of my best fitness and nutrition tips, accountability, community with other like-minded ladies and so much more, join my free Facebook group!Check out the FULL SHOW NOTES (link below) for all of my links and resources from this episode, and more! https://www.kristycastillo.com/episode30Support the show
The Test of Pleasure Passage July 31, 2022 Introduction:How many of you have ever seen an illusionist – they are skilled at presenting something real in front of our eyes which leads us to an incorrect perception or false impression about the object .I have always been amazed and entertained by them as they admit it is not magic but an illusion. Satan is also an illusionist as he is skilled at putting the real things of this world before the eyes of our heart with the intent to mislead or deceive us into thinking this is just what I need! One of the greatest illusions that Satan presents to both to the lost and believer is that what the world has to offer will bring you the fulfillment and joy you are looking for. Turn to 1 John 2:15-17 and readNote:Loving God and loving the things of this world are polar opposites What God offers lasts forever and what the world offers passes away We also see the heart of what the things of the world are: Reread v16.Lust of the flesh – the pleasures that please our senses and body Lust of the eyes – the possessions we see Boastful pride of life – the high positions within a group or organization that could make you prideful So all the world has to offer are pleasures, possessions and position. Satan is very skilled as presenting those to us as what will bring meaning and joy to our lives. In Ecclesiastes 2, we see that Solomon takes all the world has to offer to see if that answers the question of what brings lasting meaning, significance and value to life. Turn and read v1-2 Review briefly what we saw is going on in this book. Question and the test The major sections at the top Conclusion Key backdrop – vanity – meaninglessness Eric Bihl made a suggestion to me regarding the role of vanity in this book and I think he said it better than I have been saying. He said that the idea of vanity that shows up 30 times in this book is suggesting that our works and activities in and of themselves are not useless but they are useless to provide the answer to what bring lasting meaning, significance and value, to life! That only can come from fearing God and keeping His commandments! We will see an example of that again here in Ecclesiastes 2 when he tested all that the world has to offer: pleasures, possessions and positions Ecclesiastes 2Structure of the passageV1-2 – states he is testing pleasure to see if that will bring this lasting meaning and value he is looking for. V3-8 – he tests pleasures and possessions V9 he experienced high position V10-11 – he gives his conclusion to this test Watch for all of this as I read and comment along the way Conclusion – the outcome of this pleasure hunt, where he tested the best the world has to offer – was that there was some temporary pleasure but ultimately all of this was vanity and striving after wind when it comes to answer our question what can provide lasting meaning, significance, value or joy. Reread v10-11As we have seen before the answer to that question comes from fearing God and keeping His commandments! So following Jesus and impacting others is not only the mission God gave us; it really is the pathway to lasting meaning, significance, value or joy! Following Jesus, impacting othersI think Solomon's test is so important for us in North America today. As we learned there are things we can enjoy but they do not provide the ultimate things in our heart and life that we need.Satan uses the illusion of the world satisfying as one of his most powerful distractions for Christians today from following Jesus. Following Jesus is much like a marriage relationship where we leave and cleave. Read Matthew 4:18-22 V19 – definition of a disciple at MVC – follow and impact V20 – they left their livelihood V22 – they left their possessions, boat and family Listen further to these verses about being a disciple of JesusMatthew 16:24–26 – note speaking to His disciples – If you want to hang onto your life the way it is and what you have, you will lose out on experiencing life indeed. Even if you gained the whole world, you will come up empty! Listen to what Peter said in Mark 10:28 to Jesus. Read v28 Read v29-30 Testimony I want to introduce you to some friends of mine and missionaries of MVC who left everything to follow Jesus down to the boarder of Mexico to minister to the poor and orphans: Bruce – tell us what your life was like before God called you to the mission field. Bruce – you left some great opportunities up here and followed Jesus down to Mexico to minister to the poor. Tell us about how God worked in your hearts and brought that about Peter said to Jesus – we left everything … and Jesus told him about the great blessings he would get in return in this world and in eternity. How has God blessed this leaving the security of the North American dream and cleaving to Jesus as you minister to the poor and orphans in Mexico. Next hour in the Chapel people will have an opportunity to meet you two and hear more about the ministry that you have. In one minute, tell us what they can expect if they come to that time. Let me ask you and myself today this question – is there anything, anyone or pursuit that we need to leave in order to better cleave to Jesus so we can experience a life that has lasting meaning, significance, value and joy?
As your podcast best friends, we want you all to be living your most confident lives - being proud of who you are, chasing your dreams, fulfilling bucket list items and making incredible memories. However, we know that's all easier said than done, especially if you're lacking the courage to believe in yourself. To help us all get a better grasp on the dynamics involved with self-esteem, we take a deep dive to the root of why you might be lacking confidence to begin with (hint: trauma, parenting, bullying, limiting beliefs, social media - to name a few). Once we tackle that, we talk about what your comfort zone even is and why it's important to get out of it occasionally! We share a variety of helpful actions that could help you take a leap of faith whether that's acknowledging perfectionism, making a list, developing a meditation practice or looking at yourself from a loved one's perspective. We really went all in on this episode and hope it offers you valuable insight. I so wish I would have done it before. Thought it was too woo woo and fluff. Why it's so important to share this with you. I'm struggling and hope it will help me as well as you.I'm struggling with stress - chronic stress, anxiety and anxiety attacks. This year will be 5 years as a caregiver. I have had the pleasure and privilege of taking care of my loved ones through their health challenges and struggles and many moments of joy. But you know as well as me, this caregiver job can take quite the wear and tear on your physical and mental health. But reality is, if you wait until the time is right to take care of yourself, it will never come. And if it does, embrace it. For me, one crisis or challenge kept coming. Again, I know you can relate. So let's get back to my intro. It's not something my family practiced. It seemed silly and woo woo. But my friends have been doing it and have seen huge results. But I kept telling myself I can't sit still. I can quiet my brain. Have you figured it out? It's meditation. The beautiful thing was I turned on some nature music off google sat on the floor. I felt my shoulder rest, I also felt like I was floating. I never felt that before. When we meditate, we lower our stress levels, we get to know our pain, we connect better, we improve our focus, and we're kinder to ourselves. When we pay attention to our breath, we're learning how to return to, and remain in, the present moment—to anchor ourselves in the here and now on purpose, without judgement. The practice takes patience. While meditation isn't a cure-all, it can certainly provide some much-needed space in your life. And the most important tools you can bring with you to your meditation practice are a little patience, some kindness for yourself, and a comfortable place to sit. Here's why to meditate:Understanding your painLower your stressConnect betterImprove focusReduce brain chatterThe practice is simple. Find place to sit that feels calm and quiet to youConsider music or noise cancelling headphonesSet a time limitNotice your bodyFeel your breath Notice when your mind has wandered Be kind to your wandering mind Close with kindnessConsider what you want to do afterwards Meditation may offer a solution to the growing need to reduce stress in the midst of busy schedules and demanding lives.Although there isn't a right or wrong way to meditate, it's important to find a practice that meets your needs. There are nine popular types of meditation practices:mindfulness meditationspiritual meditationfocused meditationmovement meditationmantra meditationtranscendental meditationprogressive relaxationloving-kindness meditationvisualization meditationNot all meditation styles are right for everyone. Meditation can offer general health and mental/emotional benefits:lower blood pressurereduced stressbetter sleepimproved emotional regulationincreased focusenhanced moodreduced aggressiongreater adaptabilityhealthier aging processa greater sense of empathy and connection with othersI wish I would have started this practice years ago. Here's to more zen and less stress. Here's to more prayer and less anxiety. Here's to quieting the brain and allowing in joy.

Why Do We Become People Pleasers Merriam-Webster defines people, pleasers, as "a person who has an emotional need to please others often at the expense of his or her own needs or desires. People-pleasing is a state of mind where individuals convince themselves that pleasing others is much more important than their own happiness. While this may not sound that bad, ignoring your own needs for others can negatively impact your life - significantly. Most people-pleasers know how bad it can be, so how did they end up doing it anyway? People Pleasing Comes From an Unstable Childhood The number one reason adults become people pleasers is that their needs weren't met as a kid. If you are raised in a home without a great parent, you may have begun people-pleasing as a matter of survival. For example, people-pleasing is typical in an individual raised by a parent with mental illness. A child can't comprehend conditions like bipolar or depression. If the parent regularly took out their emotions on the child, the child became a people pleaser to avoid the parent's outbursts. This behaviour continues into adulthood. People Pleasing Comes From Trauma Not all people-pleasing comes from people who had a rough childhood. Instead, it comes from people who spent a long-time experiencing trauma that they never recognised or learned to overcome. For example, someone in an abusive relationship might become a people pleaser to avoid their partner's wrath. Suppose the relationship continues for an extended period, which these relationships frequently do. In that case, people-pleasing becomes a habit that is tough to shake. This behaviour will often continue, even when the abusive relationship eventually - and thankfully - comes to an end. While sometimes the origins of people-pleasing are dark, that isn't always the case. People Pleasing is a Habit Sometimes people-pleasing is just something you got used to. If you found out early in life that people-pleasing leads to good outcomes (making people happy, words of thanks, etc.), then, of course, you continue the behaviour. Some people get so used to putting others first that they never learn to put themselves first. It can be hard to break past people-pleasing habits, even when they try. People-Pleasing Is Easy Sometimes people-pleasing is just more straightforward, and it's easier to give in than stand your ground. But that is no way to live your life. Under the self-sacrifice, aphorism, "it is better to give than receive," is generally classed under the old metaphors and principles, to "devote our lives to the service of the greater good". Therefore, it could be argued that societies are now based on voluntary agreements for mothers and fathers to care for children together. They are moral but not political by following a "conjugal society". Timeless Teachings - Spirituality and Mysticism in Daily Life
As we are approaching the end of 2021, I wanted to record this episode saying something important to you, something wise, something that will change your life… I reflected on what to say, I meditated on it, I journaled… and then I realized that so many beautiful, powerful, wise, lifechanging things have already been said before me, have been already written… and all what I have to do is to find them and to read them to you. So, I did some research and selected this poem by Sanne Burger that resonates greatly with my heart. Today I will read it to you. All what you have to do is relax, close your eyes and simply allow your soul to speak to you through these words… I can't stay, motherI love you, but I wasn't born to please youI wasn't born to make you happyor give your life meaningI wasn't born to rot under your wingslike an unhatched eggI can't stay, teacherI wasn't born to be put into your boxesto think along your linesor to memorize your factsI was born to think independentlyI can't stay, my loveI wasn't born to satisfy your needsto take care of youor to hide in your armsI wasn't born to make myself smalleror to be taken for grantedI can't stay, bossI wasn't born to make money for othersI wasn't born to follow ordersor to repeat the same day over and over againI wasn't born for boredomI can't stay, masterI wasn't born to follow your ideas of what truth isor to live according to your dogmasI was born to find my own truthand make my own rulesI was born to meet life full onTo get lost on Andean trailsTo be seduced by mysterious menTo meet different faces, places and culturesto be out in the jungle all nightTo run with wolvesTo be swept off my feetTo be taken by stormTo be heartbrokenDevastatedStunnedShockedLostThrown into the deepI was born to get my hands dirtyTo get sand in my mouthMud on my clothesThorns under my feetI was born to jump into the abyssI was born to meet aliensTo do ritualsTo be cracked open in ceremonyTo go beyond time and spaceTo welcome magicTo totally lose myselfI was born to feel everythingTo taste everythingThe bitter taste of sorrowThe foul taste of deceitThe sweet taste of loveI was born to learn how to handle change gracefullyI was born to know the truthto learn how to flyI was born to learn how to speak the language of loveHow to unchain my heartHow to shed everythingHow to let go of all expectationsI was born to learn how it feels to lose everythingexcept what really mattersI was born to live a life that would strip away everything that wasn't realthat wasn't truethat wasn't meI am a phoenixI am born to spread my wings and fly towards the sunTo burn up and turn to ashesTo fall down to earth and rise up againWhen I am oldI will be proud of my scarsMy wrinklesMy memoriesMy storiesMy wisdomMy freedomI was born to be freeAnd therefore, I can't stayBy: Sanne Burger Timeless Teachings Space: https://linktr.ee/timelessteachingsYana Fry IG account: https://www.instagram.com/yanafry Currently I am on a journey that I call #yanayear or in other words “a sabbatical”. But whoever denies me before others,I will deny before my heavenly Father.” (Mt 10: 24-33)
Hey y'all! In this weeks episode I decided to talk about something I've had a really hard time with the past few years but I know it is good for me to stop, that is, living my life in isolation. When we live our lives in isolation, in a focus group of 1, we are doing ourselves an incredible disservice, life was meant to be lived with othersI hope something said in this episode impacts you in some way.Love to all of you, God bless!-KyleLets connect on social media!https://www.instagram.com/k.david__/https://www.facebook.com/kyledavidmusic/https://twitter.com/kyle_crabtree_TikTok: Kyledavid970 Snapchat: kyledavid970Linkdin: Kyle DavidWatch on YouTube:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqTMk53w-pGoXurdppIC_Lw/featured?view_as=subscriber
In today’s episode, I am doing another Podcast swap! That means that this episode is also airing in the near future on my guest’s show, which is called Inside Out Podcast Today Eden Hyder and I are discussing attachment theory and EMDR. Eden Hyder is a licensed therapist, psychology teacher and mother of two who is passionate about helping others understand themselves, their relationships and their kids from the inside out. She does this through her counseling practice Inside Out Collaborative, her 5-star podcast Inside Out, and her online psychology courses - all of which you can find through her website edenhyder.com In this episode, Eden and I discuss attachment theory and talk about how EMDR therapy can help people with insecure attachments heal from their wounds and trauma. I share part of my story and get vulnerable in hopes of encouraging others to know that healing is possible. I hope you enjoy the episode and maybe even find encouragement and hope. In this episode we discuss: What is Attachment Theory? A way of understanding people’s behavior and motivations through our relational patterns. Those patterns develop from day one between the primary caregiver and infant. This core relationship gives us the rules that we apply to all relationshipsAttachment is essentially a bond that we create for the purpose of safetyThe four Attachment Styles: SecureAnxiousAvoidantFearful-DisorganizedWhat is EMDR?Eye Movement Desensitization Reprograming: a way of reconnecting to a memory that creates stress or a traumatic experienceEMDR allows you to access those memories and allows you to process it and get “unstuck” from that experience How EMDR can help an insecurely attached parent? We have core attachment needs. Those with insecure attachments didn’t get some of those core needs met and that can result in distorted beliefs about ourselvesEMDR can help resolve those unhelpful beliefs and integrate a helpful resource to help us develop more secure attachments with othersI can discuss a little bit of my own story, having a disorganized attachment, what it has been like to parent while healing my own stuff with EMDR and Cognitive Behavioral TherapyRecommended books: Happiest Baby on the BlockThe Whole Brain ChildHow to get in touch with Eden:Website: edenhyder.com Follow her on InstagramHow to get in touch with me: Follow me on InstagramFind other episodes at: www.findingyourvillagepod.comEmail me at amanda@findingyourvillagepod.com Monthly Newsletter Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/findingyourvillagepod?fan_landing=true)

The Being With podcast is LAUNCHING ON MONDAY, APRIL 12.I've already recorded episodes with:Jim Wilder on Forming DisciplesJoel Green Embodied SalvationMaribeth Poole on Attunement and the BrainMegan Anna Neff and Mark McMinn on LamentChris Coursey on the work of Joyand many othersI'm...So...Excited.
We're taught from a young age to look toward the future. That life really begins once something in the future happens, such as once you become the person you're going to be when you grow up. The problem is that this sets us up in a pattern of chasing, not having. Many clients come to me saying they have big dreams and want to make an impact in the world but they don't want to sacrifice the present moment. They believe both is possible but don't know HOW. It starts with relearning how to vision in a way that supports both the goal AND the journey. In this episode of Unlimited, I'm diving into how to engage visioning in a way that supports both achieving your goals AND enjoying your life. Some of what I'll cover in this episode include:What exactly IS visioningWays we learn to vision that actually sabotage usOvercoming fear of failure/fear of successThe importance of having a purposeful visionWays to engage creating a vision effectively for yourself or with othersI'm particularly passionate about this topic because it's been a big learning for me personally. I spent years building the life I thought you were supposed to have to be happy. I spent more years working to be in the present moment, not getting caught up in the future or the past. I ended up becoming really good at tolerating life, instead of fully living it. Learning how to vision as I describe in this episode was pivotal for me in feeling like I was truly owning my life.Want support to create a vision that motivates you to action with both future goals and present enjoyment? COVID has turned the world upside down. We are all entrenched in the depth of winter. There's a lot of hatred permeating politics. The economy is overwhelming. It feels like the walls are caving in around you, right? But none of these things are under our control. Focusing on these things won't make your walls stronger. You're the one responsible for building your four walls. No one else will do it for you. You don't want a weak house that leaks. You want a strong fortress. So how do you build your fortress? In this episode of Best in Wealth, I share 5 things you can control and focus on. Check it out! Outline of This Episode[1:15] Welcome! [2:04] Growing up a carpenters kid [4:14] The state of our world [9:18] How to build your fortress [10:00] #1: Take care of your family [11:36] #2: Build your financial fortress [14:59] #3: Be kind to others [16:41] #4: Take care of yourself [19:27] #5: Get spiritual Step #1: Take care of your familyDon't take your spouse for granted. Everyone can work on their marriage. Are you a parent? Become the best parent that you can be. How? Be present. Don't stress about what you can't control. Listen to your kids. A client told me that instead of asking your child “How was your day?” you have to say “Tell me about your day.” It's a game-changer. When you work to be present, you're pouring a strong foundation. #2 Build your financial fortressHow can you take care of your financial fortress? Here are some ideas: Set up a budget! Get a spending plan in place. You feel so much better. It isn't a constraint on your money—it's permission to spend. Don't feel guilty when you have it as part of your spending plan. Set up a great retirement plan. You'll feel more secure and like you're making better decisions with your money. Get a sound investment plan in place. When you have an investment policy statement in place, you feel less out of control when the market dips. Get the insurance you need (and get rid of what you don't need). Pay attention to your taxes. Get estate-planning documents in order. If this is too overwhelming, reach out to me! This is what I do for a living. I can help you get it all together. Step #3: Be kind to othersI'm tired of all of the hatred in the world—aren't you? Why can't we just be kind to others? Let people pass you on the freeway. Open the door for someone. Smile. Give. You can do three things with your money: spend it, save it, or give it away. You will be happiest when you're giving. Give a little now so you can give a lot later. It doesn't have to be monetary—you can give your time, too. Step #4: Take care of yourselfEveryone focuses on self-care at the beginning of a year, right? It's so easy to start strong, then you start to go downhill. It'll be rough at first. But once you get in the groove, you'll want to keep those endorphins around. You also need to take care of your mental health. If you aren't in a good physical or mental state, you're like a hollow door. But when you're strong—both physically and mentally—you can take on the world. Step #5: Get spiritualYou need a sense of purpose in your life. The world is bigger than you. Don't forget that you have someone to lean on. We all fall, but you can get back stronger than ever. When you have a strong spiritual base, it's hard to get knocked down. You are being protected. When you feel that, your fortress is growing even stronger. You can work to be a better person every day. A few weeks ago, I was given the inspired shortcut in my Daily GPS, to go to bed early, If I happen to wake up before my alarm goes off it feels like this luxurious, abundant space of time. I have been able to transfer that abundant feeling to other areas of my life because I have experienced it with sleep. Awesome how making one change to create more space in my life, has really affected all areas!.The gift of discernment and intuition helps us create the perfect spacing in our own lives. Melissa mentioned on the call how seeing something as a heavy burden can produce a feeling of anxiety. Are we allowing space to process and respond according to the Spirit? Our bodies are temples. We honor and respect temples by keeping them clean and free from worldly influences. As our body is a temple, perhaps we can treat it with honor and respect by receiving uplifting words and foods. Inhale strength and exhale fear as Betsy shared.Today I give myself permission to pause and honor the space I am open and receiving Christ’s easeI am laying my burden at Christ’s feetMy burden is transforming to become a tool to be used for my benefit and the benefit of othersI am creating space for myselfI create healing space all around meI am honoring myself in the pauseI am honoring my temple bodyI worship and respect the gift of my bodyI am living in my presentI am in light and ease of beingI am continually recharging by gifting myself mind-spaceI am nourished in Christ in breath and spaceGod is in the spacesClick Here for more info on living a life of gratitude.Click Here to find out how to join the Gratitude Call live every weekday morning at 7 am Mountain Time.Click Here to join the “Breakthrough with Gratitude!” Facebook Group. If you have been following me, you know how psyched I am for this topic right now! I am currently in a course and on my way to becoming a brain rewiring coach! I have personally been doing it for 3 months and it has already changed me so much and how I see myself. It was so important for me to go through it first before helping othersI wanted to see how it truly affects others, changes the brain and just personally put in the time to see the ins and outs. I am a lot more calm doing this! I am a relatively high-strung type A personality, for sure, and this has really challenged me to sit down, focus and stop avoiding my thoughts. I have more confidence and less judgement for others and myself. I have less worry and stress - it gives space to believe in myself and move forward on hard things.SO, these subconscious negative brain pathways, we often pick them up when we are younger or things people have told us. They are implanted there into our subconscious whether we realize it or not! It really sets the pace and foundation for who we become and our beliefs about ourselves.Brain rewiring really helps us change the way we show up and interact with the world! It brings us back to the core limiting beliefs that are holding us back from being our best selves. The negative patterns in our brain keep us from feeling: satisfied, successful and just proud of ourselves. For example: Think of everything that you feel frustrated by in your climbing right now that you just wish you could get past…Fear of fallingJealousy of other climbersBeing hard on yourself when you aren't climbing your bestNot wanting to climb in front of othersNegative self talkUsing your height as an excuseNot having a great handle on risk managementBrain rewiring is not just for climbing, though we love to use it there! It can be helpful in all areas of our lives. For example, maybe you're not feeling worthy of things - this is a super common thing people find themselves coming back to as a root cause. It can help with family trauma, business, self confidence and genuinely anything that you are wanting to work on and rewire. It is about what you need! How do you know that brain rewiring is good for you and if it is a good time for you to start this journey? The reality is - there will never be a perfect time or the right time to dive in! It won't just fall into your lap and feel easy. It is a deep emotional thing that requires radical honesty and hard work. You have to be open to changing negative limiting beliefs and be welcome to change. If you have tried everything else - changing eating, hormone balancing and everything else, maybe it is time to try brain rewiring! So, if you are feeling like this is something you want to connect with and work with me one on one, I will be opening some limited spots on Friday, October 16th specifically for brain rewiring! So you can head over to ladybetacoaching.com and get on the waitlist to see when those spots are opening up - it is going to be incredible!
