Many people see whatever part of what I do, think that's everything, and conclude I'm just doing some personal action or other form of spitting into the wind.I don't like wasting my time any more than anyone else does, nor do I want to see people continuing toLower earth's ability to sustain lifeDestroy others' life, liberty, or property without the consentDeplete from nature to where there is not enough as good in common for othersI'm partly insulted that they think I'm wasting my time or that I haven't developed a comprehensive plan that stops all those things that works at every stage, mainly by working on people's existing motivations. It's based on the Spodek Method and other effective leadership techniques.I posted a series of videos I call A Short Course in Sustainability Leadership that outlines the plan. I designed it for people who want to act and lead, not abdicate and capitulate like nearly everyone else. I recommend watching the videos, which are on this page, but I'm posting the audio here.To follow up: The videos of this courseMy book, Sustainability SimplifiedThe Workshop and community Hosted on Acast. The Word Before Work

Who cuts a channel for the torrents of rain, and a path for the thunderstorm, to water a land where no one lives, an uninhabited desert (Job 38:25-26)Most people didn't view the Great Depression as the best time to launch a toy company. But that's exactly when LEGO, the most successful toy brand of all time, was born. The company's founder, a devout Christian aptly named Ole Kirk Christiansen, had spent years building a traditional carpentry business. But by the early 1930s, business was slumping while his debts were soaring. So he pivoted to making toys like yo-yos, toy cars, and eventually LEGO bricks. And everyone told him he was out of his mind.“I think you're much too good for that, Christiansen,” one friend said. “Why don't you find something more useful to do!” The world was in crisis after all. People needed food, not toys. But Christiansen disagreed. In his own playful life and the life of the business he created to help others play well, Christiansen demonstrated a deep understanding of this truth: We mere Christians can glorify God by embracing fun, beauty, play, and “useless” work because our heavenly Father does the same. That's what we see in today's passage. God says that he sends “torrents of rain...to water a land where no one lives.” Why would God make it rain in an uninhabited desert? Apparently just for the fun of it!Commenting on this verse, theologian Dr. R. Paul Stevens says that God's playful nature should produce in his people a “freedom from the tyranny of utility.” In other words, godly play—not just productivity—pleases God.I'll be the first to admit that I am glacially slow to learning this. But by God's grace I am coming to see that play is productive for my soul and my goals. As Dr. Stuart Brown says, “In the long run, work does not work without play.”If you, like me, are not used to playing, let me encourage you to adopt this practice I recently found very helpful: Take stock of your play history. Ask yourself what you did as a kid or as an adult that felt like play. Based on my study of the work of Dr. Brown and others, I define play as any activity that has these 5 characteristics:I would say I “get” to do it rather than “have” to do itI lose track of time while I'm doing itI can't wait to do it againI can't stop talking about it with othersI have no deadline to complete the activityOnce you've made a list of things that have historically felt like play, schedule 30-90 minutes this week to engage in one of those activities knowing that you, like LEGO's founder, can glorify God as you do!

Everybody knows what it feels like to have a guilty conscience. To have done something we know we should't have done. And as we get older, we get more sophisticated at justifying our questionable behaviour to ourselves. If we're honest, we all still do things from time to time that we know we probably shouldn't do but we're way better at convincing ourselves why it's really not that bad.We say things ourselves like…..I'm a good personI try to do the right thingsI'm kind be kind to othersI pay my taxes.I don't stealI try not to liehaven't murdered anyone….I'm trying to be a decent contributing member of society….So, this little sin over here…. or this little white lie over there …..this little secret over here… it isn't really hurting anyone…so it's not so bad, right?!Church & Culture:In Church we tend to major on the grace message and minor on the sin message because it's more comfortable. It's more palatable and acceptable to talk about the positive stuff than the hard stuff.  When we talk about grace we're assuming the reality of sin but just don't really like to talk about it that much.In 2024, we find ourselves living in a very individualistic culture where it's more about ‘your' truth than ‘The' truth. Where, ‘you do you' is widely accepted often over and above the way of life Jesus calls us to if we choose to follow him and be his disciples. The thing is though, the bible doesn't shy away from talking about the hard stuff - we just often have selective hearing and selective reading.Today's scripture: Matt 5:4‘Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted' (NIV)Jesus makes a radical statement here - we would never say to someone who is grieving would we?  Oh, you're grieving, look how blessed you are!And if someone said that to us in the middle of a difficult time in our lives we would probably not receive it well at all.It poses some big questions for us:What is Jesus actually saying? What kind of mourning is he talking about? What kind of comfort is he promising? How can experiencing grief possibly be the good life?Who was Jesus talking to?- Jewish villagers under Roman occupation- Ordinary people - farmers, fishermen, women, children, tax collectors, sex workers.living under the oppression of Roman rule, they've all but lost hope of any kind of deliveranc and believing their current circumstance is a direct result of their sinful ways - they had turned away from God and not been faithful to him. They were mourning a future that felt hopelessThey were mourning over their own sin and brokennessThey were mourning over the state of their cityWhat kind of mourning was Jesus talking about?Mourn - Greek verb = Pentheo - to mourn over one's sin and brokenness (spiritual mourning over the state of one's soul and circumstance)We struggle to identify with this kind of mourning - it's counter-cultural to us and a lot of the time, we honestly don't see ourselves as people in need of a saviour.“The present age is definitely not an age of mourning. Instead, people deliberately turn away from anything unpleasant, determined to fill their lives with those things which will divert their minds from anything serious. In their preoccupation with momentary pleasures and diversions, people settle for shallow and empty substitutes for reality. Millions give more thought to what programs they will watch tonight on TNT, or what videotape they will rent for the weekend than they do to the things of eternity.”  - Billy Graham -Jesus is saying this kind of mourning is necessary. Not just necessary - but good for us - ‘the good life'.In other words, “You're blessed when you can humbly acknowledge your sin and brokenness and grieve over it, for then you shall receive the comfort of forgiveness and healing”.But there's also a school of thought that would say Jesus wasn't just talking about personal sin and brokenness but the grief and sadness that comes from living in a world ruled by death - in this earthly world where death has the final word - but in the Kingdom Jesus is talking about,  death is swallowed up in victory and the promise is eternal comfort and eternal life. The invitation in this scripture is to be present to our grief - to be honest to it with God - and not to ignore our need for comfort. What kind of comfort is Jesus talking about?Greek //Comfortedπαρακαλέω / parakaleó (verb)Q: comforted by who or what?Comforterπαράκλητος (paraklētos) (noun)PARACLETE - One called alongside to standby.Amazingly - this is same word that we see in John 14 & 16 that Jesus uses to describe the Holy Spirit who was coming. When we ignore our need for comfort we cannot invite The Comforter into those places of pain to bring us the help and the relief that we so desperately need. The Promise:Help is on the way!You do not have to be alone in your grief. The Paraclete has been called to come and stand alongside youHe will advocate for youHe will console you   The promise is not that our grief would be removed instantaneously - but that in the midst of our grief and our pain we would experience the deep comfort of the Paraclete - our advocate, our counsellor and our standby.“You're blessed when you feel you've lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you. (MSG)

Five for Friday Show NotesTeaser:This week was all about leadership as a concept. What is leadership? Beyond what leadership is, we looked out how leaders gain power, and the ability they have to build – or destroy. In today's episode I will deviate significantly from the short messages of the week and expand on these important themes. This week's big idea: Real leadership is about peopleHello colleagues and welcome to The Assistant Principal Podcast, I'm your host Dr. Frederick Buskey. I've been growing leaders and future leaders for over 30 years. Through my own experiences, and through working with hundreds of other leaders, I've learned that school leadership is a journey that occurs in three phases:Urgent leaders spend their time completing tasks, but…Intentional leaders invest their time building systems. However…Strategic leaders create time by growing people. In 2018 I founded Strategic Leadership Consulting to help make this journey more enjoyable for leaders like you. Through my daily email, monthly micro-journal, online community, my upcoming book, and, of course, this podcast, I keep you company on this journey and provide you with actionable ideas and tools to live and lead better today and tomorrow.Today's episode of Five for Friday recaps the strategic leadership emails for the week of January 30-February 2, 2023. Can you believe we are through January already? I'm just now getting used to saying 2023. Monday:“Being in the left lane of a superhighway with a string of cars behind you does not make you a leader. It may just mean you're slow and too stupid to get out of the way.”-Dr. Jacque Jacobs, Mentor, Professor Emeritus, and so much moreSo if having people behind doesn't define leadership, what does? Some quotes from scholars (none of these appeared in the weekly emails): “Leadership is not a person or a position. It is a complex moral relationship between people, based on trust, obligation, commitment, emotion, and a shared vision of the good.” – Joanne Ciulla, philosopher and director of The Institute for Ethical Leadership “Leadership is influence – nothing more, nothing less.” – John Maxwell  If you want to govern the people, you must place yourself below them. If you want to lead the people, you must learn how to follow them.” – Attributed to Lao Tzu “Intentional use of power to influence a person or people to achieve a specific outcome.” – Frederick Buskey From here Wednesday and Thursday talked about power, specifically three forms: Legitimate Expert Referent Hierarchical v. non-hierarchicalMain point: cultivating your expert and referent power helps you be able to mentor othersI wrapped up the week trying to drive this point home by asking you to think about the mentor's you have had in your life, and then work to emulate some of what made them have such a profound influence. One of the missed opportunities in my career was realizing too late the influence I had on my colleagues. It has only been in the past five years that I have consciously begun mentoring people, but in reflecting I realize I have been unconsciously doing it for almost 20 years. If I had been more intentional, I could have had a bigger impact. So that is my invitation to you. Think about the power you hold. Legitimate power yes, but much more importantly think about the expert and referent power you hold. Embrace it. Use it. Be intentional about mentoring others and helping them grow. Before we close: Dr. Ryan Donlan was our guest this past Tuesday and we discussed coaching up down and around as an assistant principal. It is a great show for anyone wanting to be more intentional about mentoring – and leading – others. And… in Friday's email I invited people to share with me the stories about their mentors. If you have someone who has had a profound positive impact on you, consider doing this:Record a 1-3 minute tribute and email it to me at frederick@frederickbuskey.com. I will do my best to work your tribute into an upcoming show so you can publicly acknowledge someone important. Share a quick story or a list of qualities, or just say thank you. I'll do my best to get your tribute on the show. That is this week's Five for Friday rendition of The Assistant Principal Podcast. If you enjoyed today's show, please forward it. I'll give a shoutout to my new LinkedIn friend, a school head in Kuala Lumpur who found the podcast because someone shared it with him and said, you should listen.” If you are finding value in the show, please forward the show link to a colleague and say “you have got to listen to this.”Thank you for including me on your leadership journey. This episode marks my 30th episode, and I am beyond excited to have you here with me-thank you for being here!!Something I get asked about often is intermittent fasting, and if it's something I recommend for my clients to be doing. I have my own thoughts on the topic because I've actually experienced it myself, and I want to help you decide if it's right for you on your health and fitness journey. In today's episode, I'm talking about:-My introduction to intermittent fasting-How my mindset changed the longer I was doing intermittent fasting-Really digging into WHY you're wanting to pursue intermittent fasting, and if it makes sense for your health and fitness goals-Why intermittent fasting may work better for some people compared to othersI really want you to consider why you're wanting to practice intermittent fasting, especially if you've been in that restrictive, ‘all or nothing' mindset before. Are you wanting to do it in order to be healthier overall, or do you think it will be an ‘easier' way for you to lose weight? You may intend to start something with good intentions, but over time, your mindset can change, and it can turn into something negative. Intermittent fasting is definitely not a bad thing, but I want you to have the knowledge and be able to make the right decision for YOU and your health, for the long-term!Check out my brand NEW 1-1 coaching program, where we cut the BS, and learn what to do to get the results you want-for life! https://www.kristycastillo.com/coachingConnect with me over on Instagram @kristycastillofit so we can keep this conversation going! For more help with your health and fitness goals, check out my programs at: https://www.kristycastillo.com/workout-programsIf you're looking for more of my best fitness and nutrition tips, accountability, community with other like-minded ladies and so much more, join my free Facebook group!Check out the FULL SHOW NOTES (link below) for all of my links and resources from this episode, and more! https://www.kristycastillo.com/episode30Support the show

The Test of Pleasure Passage July 31, 2022    Introduction:How many of you have ever seen an illusionist – they are skilled at presenting something real in front of our eyes which leads us to an incorrect perception or false impression about the object .I have always been amazed and entertained by them as they admit it is not magic but an illusion.  Satan is also an illusionist as he is skilled at putting the real things of this world before the eyes of our heart with the intent to mislead or deceive us into thinking this is just what I need! One of the greatest illusions that Satan presents to both to the lost and believer is that what the world has to offer will bring you the fulfillment and joy you are looking for. Turn to 1 John 2:15-17 and readNote:Loving God and loving the things of this world are polar opposites What God offers lasts forever and what the world offers passes away We also see the heart of what the things of the world are:  Reread v16.Lust of the flesh – the pleasures that please our senses and body Lust of the eyes – the possessions we see Boastful pride of life – the high positions within a group or organization that could make you prideful So all the world has to offer are pleasures, possessions and position. Satan is very skilled as presenting those to us as what will bring meaning and joy to our lives. In Ecclesiastes 2, we see that Solomon takes all the world has to offer to see if that answers the question of what brings lasting meaning, significance and value to life.  Turn and read v1-2   Review briefly what we saw is going on in this book.  Question and the test  The major sections at the top Conclusion  Key backdrop – vanity – meaninglessness Eric Bihl made a suggestion to me regarding the role of vanity in this book and I think he said it better than I have been saying.  He said that the idea of vanity that shows up 30 times in this book is suggesting that our works and activities in and of themselves are not useless but they are useless to provide the answer to what bring lasting meaning, significance and value, to life!      That only can come from fearing God and keeping His commandments!  We will see an example of that again here in Ecclesiastes 2 when he tested all that the world has to offer:  pleasures, possessions and positions  Ecclesiastes 2Structure of the passageV1-2 – states he is testing pleasure to see if that will bring this lasting meaning and value he is looking for. V3-8 – he tests pleasures and possessions V9 he experienced high position  V10-11 – he gives his conclusion to this test Watch for all of this as I read and comment along the way Conclusion – the outcome of this pleasure hunt, where he tested the best the world has to offer – was that there was some temporary pleasure but ultimately all of this was vanity and striving after wind when it comes to answer our question what can provide lasting meaning, significance, value or joy.  Reread v10-11As we have seen before the answer to that question comes from fearing God and keeping His commandments! So following Jesus and impacting others is not only the mission God gave us; it really is the pathway to lasting meaning, significance, value or joy!  Following Jesus, impacting othersI think Solomon's test is so important for us in North America today.  As we learned there are things we can enjoy but they do not provide the ultimate things in our heart and life that we need.Satan uses the illusion of the world satisfying as one of his most powerful distractions for Christians today from following Jesus.    Following Jesus is much like a marriage relationship where we leave and cleave.  Read Matthew 4:18-22 V19 – definition of a disciple at MVC – follow and impact V20 – they left their livelihood V22 – they left their possessions, boat and family  Listen further to these verses about being a disciple of JesusMatthew 16:24–26 – note speaking to His disciples – If you want to hang onto your life the way it is and what you have, you will lose out on experiencing life indeed.  Even if you gained the whole world, you will come up empty!  Listen to what Peter said in Mark 10:28 to Jesus.   Read v28 Read v29-30    Testimony I want to introduce you to some friends of mine and missionaries of MVC who left everything to follow Jesus down to the boarder of Mexico to minister to the poor and orphans: Bruce – tell us what your life was like before God called you to the mission field. Bruce – you left some great opportunities up here and followed Jesus down to Mexico to minister to the poor.  Tell us about how God worked in your hearts and brought that about Peter said to Jesus – we left everything … and Jesus told him about the great blessings he would get in return in this world and in eternity.   How has God blessed this leaving the security of the North American dream and cleaving to Jesus as you minister to the poor and orphans in Mexico. Next hour in the Chapel people will have an opportunity to meet you two and hear more about the ministry that you have.   In one minute, tell us what they can expect if they come to that time. Let me ask you and myself today this question – is there anything, anyone or pursuit that we need to leave in order to better cleave to Jesus so we can experience a life that has lasting meaning, significance, value and joy?

I so wish I would have done it before.   Thought it was too woo woo and fluff.   Why it's so important to share this with you.  I'm struggling and hope it will help me as well as  you.I'm struggling with stress - chronic stress, anxiety and anxiety attacks.  This year will be 5 years as a caregiver.  I have had the pleasure and privilege of taking care of my loved ones through their health challenges and struggles and many moments of joy.  But you know as well as me, this caregiver job can take quite the wear and tear on your physical and mental health.  But reality is, if you wait until the time is right to take care of yourself, it will never come.  And if it does, embrace it.  For me, one crisis or challenge kept coming.   Again, I know you can relate.  So let's get back to my intro. It's not something my family practiced.  It seemed silly and  woo woo.  But my friends have been doing it and have seen huge results.  But I kept telling myself I can't sit still.  I can quiet my brain.   Have  you figured it out?   It's meditation.  The beautiful thing was I turned on some nature music off google sat on the floor.  I felt my shoulder rest, I also felt like I was floating.  I never felt that before.  When we meditate, we lower our stress levels, we get to know our pain, we connect better, we improve our focus, and we're kinder to ourselves. When we pay attention to our breath, we're learning how to return to, and remain in, the present moment—to anchor ourselves in the here and now on purpose, without judgement. The practice takes patience. While meditation isn't a cure-all, it can certainly provide some much-needed space in your life. And the most important tools you can bring with you to your meditation practice are a little patience, some kindness for yourself, and a comfortable place to sit. Here's why to meditate:Understanding your painLower your stressConnect betterImprove focusReduce brain chatterThe practice is simple.  Find place to sit that feels calm and quiet to youConsider music or noise cancelling headphonesSet a time limitNotice your bodyFeel your breath  Notice when your mind has wandered  Be kind to your wandering mind Close with kindnessConsider what you want to do afterwards Meditation may offer a solution to the growing need to reduce stress in the midst of busy schedules and demanding lives.Although there isn't a right or wrong way to meditate, it's important to find a practice that meets your needs. There are nine popular types of meditation practices:mindfulness meditationspiritual meditationfocused meditationmovement meditationmantra meditationtranscendental meditationprogressive relaxationloving-kindness meditationvisualization meditationNot all meditation styles are right for everyone. Meditation can offer general health and mental/emotional benefits:lower blood pressurereduced stressbetter sleepimproved emotional regulationincreased focusenhanced moodreduced aggressiongreater adaptabilityhealthier aging processa greater sense of empathy and connection with othersI wish I would have started this practice years ago.    Here's to more zen and less stress.  Here's to more prayer and less anxiety.  Here's to quieting the brain and allowing in joy.

Why Do We Become People Pleasers Merriam-Webster defines people, pleasers, as "a person who has an emotional need to please others often at the expense of his or her own needs or desires. People-pleasing is a state of mind where individuals convince themselves that pleasing others is much more important than their own happiness.  While this may not sound that bad, ignoring your own needs for others can negatively impact your life - significantly.  Most people-pleasers know how bad it can be, so how did they end up doing it anyway?  People Pleasing Comes From an Unstable Childhood The number one reason adults become people pleasers is that their needs weren't met as a kid. If you are raised in a home without a great parent, you may have begun people-pleasing as a matter of survival. For example, people-pleasing is typical in an individual raised by a parent with mental illness. A child can't comprehend conditions like bipolar or depression. If the parent regularly took out their emotions on the child, the child became a people pleaser to avoid the parent's outbursts. This behaviour continues into adulthood.  People Pleasing Comes From Trauma Not all people-pleasing comes from people who had a rough childhood. Instead, it comes from people who spent a long-time experiencing trauma that they never recognised or learned to overcome. For example, someone in an abusive relationship might become a people pleaser to avoid their partner's wrath.  Suppose the relationship continues for an extended period, which these relationships frequently do. In that case, people-pleasing becomes a habit that is tough to shake. This behaviour will often continue, even when the abusive relationship eventually - and thankfully - comes to an end.  While sometimes the origins of people-pleasing are dark, that isn't always the case.  People Pleasing is a Habit Sometimes people-pleasing is just something you got used to. If you found out early in life that people-pleasing leads to good outcomes (making people happy, words of thanks, etc.), then, of course, you continue the behaviour.  Some people get so used to putting others first that they never learn to put themselves first. It can be hard to break past people-pleasing habits, even when they try.  People-Pleasing Is Easy  Sometimes people-pleasing is just more straightforward, and it's easier to give in than stand your ground.  But that is no way to live your life. Under the self-sacrifice, aphorism, "it is better to give than receive," is generally classed under the old metaphors and principles, to "devote our lives to the service of the greater good". Therefore, it could be argued that societies are now based on voluntary agreements for mothers and fathers to care for children together. They are moral but not political by following a "conjugal society".   Learn more Affirmation  List My needs are as important as anyone else'sI need nobody's approval except my ownI will achieve my dreamsI refuse to apologise for who I amI respect myselfMy needs are as important as other peoples'My heart is goodI will stop trying to please everyone apart from myself I can achieve whatever I set my mind to I am strong. I am kind. I am importantI forgive myselfI do not compare myself to othersI welcome failures as learning opportunitiesI do not judge others, and I do not judge myself

As we are approaching the end of 2021, I wanted to record this episode saying something important to you, something wise, something that will change your life… I reflected on what to say, I meditated on it, I journaled… and then I realized that so many beautiful, powerful, wise, lifechanging things have already been said before me, have been already written… and all what I have to do is to find them and to read them to you. So, I did some research and selected this poem by Sanne Burger that resonates greatly with my heart. Today I will read it to you. All what you have to do is relax, close your eyes and simply allow your soul to speak to you through these words…  I can't stay, motherI love you, but I wasn't born to please youI wasn't born to make you happyor give your life meaningI wasn't born to rot under your wingslike an unhatched eggI can't stay, teacherI wasn't born to be put into your boxesto think along your linesor to memorize your factsI was born to think independentlyI can't stay, my loveI wasn't born to satisfy your needsto take care of youor to hide in your armsI wasn't born to make myself smalleror to be taken for grantedI can't stay, bossI wasn't born to make money for othersI wasn't born to follow ordersor to repeat the same day over and over againI wasn't born for boredomI can't stay, masterI wasn't born to follow your ideas of what truth isor to live according to your dogmasI was born to find my own truthand make my own rulesI was born to meet life full onTo get lost on Andean trailsTo be seduced by mysterious menTo meet different faces, places and culturesto be out in the jungle all nightTo run with wolvesTo be swept off my feetTo be taken by stormTo be heartbrokenDevastatedStunnedShockedLostThrown into the deepI was born to get my hands dirtyTo get sand in my mouthMud on my clothesThorns under my feetI was born to jump into the abyssI was born to meet aliensTo do ritualsTo be cracked open in ceremonyTo go beyond time and spaceTo welcome magicTo totally lose myselfI was born to feel everythingTo taste everythingThe bitter taste of sorrowThe foul taste of deceitThe sweet taste of loveI was born to learn how to handle change gracefullyI was born to know the truthto learn how to flyI was born to learn how to speak the language of loveHow to unchain my heartHow to shed everythingHow to let go of all expectationsI was born to learn how it feels to lose everythingexcept what really mattersI was born to live a life that would strip away everything that wasn't realthat wasn't truethat wasn't meI am a phoenixI am born to spread my wings and fly towards the sunTo burn up and turn to ashesTo fall down to earth and rise up againWhen I am oldI will be proud of my scarsMy wrinklesMy memoriesMy storiesMy wisdomMy freedomI was born to be freeAnd therefore, I can't stayBy: Sanne Burger Timeless Teachings Space: https://linktr.ee/timelessteachingsYana Fry IG account: https://www.instagram.com/yanafry Currently I am on a journey that I call #yanayear or in other words “a sabbatical”. Jesus said to his Apostles: “No disciple is above his teacher,no slave above his master. It is enough for the disciple that he become like his teacher, for the slave that he become like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more those of his household!“Therefore do not be afraid of them.Nothing is concealed that will not be revealed, nor secret that will not be known. What I say to you in the darkness, speak in the light;what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops. And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul;rather, be afraid of the one who can destroyboth soul and body in Gehenna. Are not two sparrows sold for a small coin?Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father's knowledge.Even all the hairs of your head are counted. So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.Everyone who acknowledges me before othersI will acknowledge before my heavenly Father. But whoever denies me before others,I will deny before my heavenly Father.” (Mt 10: 24-33)

In today’s episode, I am doing another Podcast swap! That means that this episode is also airing in the near future on my guest’s show, which is called  Inside Out Podcast Today Eden Hyder and I are discussing attachment theory and EMDR. Eden Hyder is a licensed therapist, psychology teacher and mother of two who is passionate about helping others understand themselves, their relationships and their kids from the inside out. She does this through her counseling practice Inside Out Collaborative, her 5-star podcast Inside Out, and her online psychology courses - all of which you can find through her website edenhyder.com In this episode, Eden and I discuss attachment theory and talk about how EMDR therapy can help people with insecure attachments heal from their wounds and trauma. I share part of my story and get vulnerable in hopes of encouraging others to know that healing is possible. I hope you enjoy the episode and maybe even find encouragement and hope. In this episode we discuss: What is Attachment Theory? A way of understanding people’s behavior and motivations through our relational patterns. Those patterns develop from day one between the primary caregiver and infant. This core relationship gives us the rules that we apply to all relationshipsAttachment is essentially a bond that we create for the purpose of safetyThe four Attachment Styles: SecureAnxiousAvoidantFearful-DisorganizedWhat is EMDR?Eye Movement Desensitization Reprograming: a way of reconnecting to a memory that creates stress or a traumatic experienceEMDR allows you to access those memories and allows you to process it and get “unstuck” from that experience How EMDR can help an insecurely attached parent? We have core attachment needs. Those with insecure attachments didn’t get some of those core needs met and that can result in distorted beliefs about ourselvesEMDR can help resolve those unhelpful beliefs and integrate a helpful resource to help us develop more secure attachments with othersI can discuss a little bit of my own story, having a disorganized attachment, what it has been like to parent while healing my own stuff with EMDR and Cognitive Behavioral TherapyRecommended books: Happiest Baby on the BlockThe Whole Brain ChildHow to get in touch with Eden:Website: edenhyder.com Follow her on InstagramHow to get in touch with me: Follow me on InstagramFind other episodes at: www.findingyourvillagepod.comEmail me at amanda@findingyourvillagepod.com Monthly Newsletter Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/findingyourvillagepod?fan_landing=true)

We're taught from a young age to look toward the future. That life really begins once something in the future happens, such as once you become the person you're going to be when you grow up. The problem is that this sets us up in a pattern of chasing, not having. Many clients come to me saying they have big dreams and want to make an impact in the world but they don't want to sacrifice the present moment. They believe both is possible but don't know HOW. It starts with relearning how to vision in a way that supports both the goal AND the journey.  In this episode of Unlimited, I'm diving into how to engage visioning in a way that supports both achieving your goals AND enjoying your life.  Some of what I'll cover in this episode include:What exactly IS visioningWays we learn to vision that actually sabotage usOvercoming fear of failure/fear of successThe importance of having a purposeful visionWays to engage creating a vision effectively for yourself or with othersI'm particularly passionate about this topic because it's been a big learning for me personally. I spent years building the life I thought you were supposed to have to be happy. I spent more years working to be in the present moment, not getting caught up in the future or the past. I ended up becoming really good at tolerating life, instead of fully living it. Learning how to vision as I describe in this episode was pivotal for me in feeling like I was truly owning my life.Want support to create a vision that motivates you to action with both future goals and present enjoyment? Best In Wealth - Best Practices for Real People, Investments, Retirement Planning, Money Management, Wealth Building, Financi

COVID has turned the world upside down. We are all entrenched in the depth of winter. There's a lot of hatred permeating politics. The economy is overwhelming. It feels like the walls are caving in around you, right? But none of these things are under our control. Focusing on these things won't make your walls stronger. You're the one responsible for building your four walls. No one else will do it for you. You don't want a weak house that leaks. You want a strong fortress. So how do you build your fortress? In this episode of Best in Wealth, I share 5 things you can control and focus on. Check it out! Outline of This Episode[1:15] Welcome! [2:04] Growing up a carpenters kid [4:14] The state of our world [9:18] How to build your fortress [10:00] #1: Take care of your family [11:36] #2: Build your financial fortress [14:59] #3: Be kind to others [16:41] #4: Take care of yourself [19:27] #5: Get spiritual Step #1: Take care of your familyDon't take your spouse for granted. Everyone can work on their marriage. Are you a parent? Become the best parent that you can be. How? Be present. Don't stress about what you can't control. Listen to your kids. A client told me that instead of asking your child “How was your day?” you have to say “Tell me about your day.” It's a game-changer. When you work to be present, you're pouring a strong foundation. #2 Build your financial fortressHow can you take care of your financial fortress? Here are some ideas: Set up a budget! Get a spending plan in place. You feel so much better. It isn't a constraint on your money—it's permission to spend. Don't feel guilty when you have it as part of your spending plan. Set up a great retirement plan. You'll feel more secure and like you're making better decisions with your money. Get a sound investment plan in place. When you have an investment policy statement in place, you feel less out of control when the market dips. Get the insurance you need (and get rid of what you don't need). Pay attention to your taxes. Get estate-planning documents in order. If this is too overwhelming, reach out to me! This is what I do for a living. I can help you get it all together. Step #3: Be kind to othersI'm tired of all of the hatred in the world—aren't you? Why can't we just be kind to others? Let people pass you on the freeway. Open the door for someone. Smile. Give. You can do three things with your money: spend it, save it, or give it away. You will be happiest when you're giving. Give a little now so you can give a lot later. It doesn't have to be monetary—you can give your time, too. Step #4: Take care of yourselfEveryone focuses on self-care at the beginning of a year, right? It's so easy to start strong, then you start to go downhill. It'll be rough at first. But once you get in the groove, you'll want to keep those endorphins around. You also need to take care of your mental health. If you aren't in a good physical or mental state, you're like a hollow door. But when you're strong—both physically and mentally—you can take on the world. Step #5: Get spiritualYou need a sense of purpose in your life. The world is bigger than you. Don't forget that you have someone to lean on. We all fall, but you can get back stronger than ever. When you have a strong spiritual base, it's hard to get knocked down. You are being protected. When you feel that, your fortress is growing even stronger. You can work to be a better person every day. I have been able to transfer that abundant feeling to other areas of my life because I have experienced it with sleep. Awesome how making one change to create more space in my life, has really affected all areas!.The gift of discernment and intuition helps us create the perfect spacing in our own lives. Melissa mentioned on the call how seeing something as a heavy burden can produce a feeling of anxiety. Are we allowing space to process and respond according to the Spirit? Our bodies are temples. We honor and respect temples by keeping them clean and free from worldly influences. As our body is a temple, perhaps we can treat it with honor and respect by receiving uplifting words and foods. Living our best inspires others to live their best.I am receiving while receiving and it brings such an ease and flow to life. It is an honor to confirm my gifts when I affirm your gifts. It is a sacred obligation to use my gifts.God doesn’t choose the qualified, he qualifies the chosen. We receive and have access to everything we need. He can use us when we walk in faith and believe we are enough.Today I give myself permission to live in flow My life is in flow while serving in partnership with Christ in my giftsI see my gifts through a reflection of othersI can literally do anything He calls me to doMy gifts are reflected back to me through sharing themI am a gift in Christ’s handsI am discerning how to minister to the oneI allow God to work through meI hone, magnify, improveI am affirming others gifts while serving in my giftsI am worthy of my gifts as I use them with GodI am creating a ripple of love with my giftsI open my giftsClick Here for more info on living a life of gratitude.Click Here to find out how to join the Gratitude Call live every weekday morning at 7 am Mountain Time.Click Here to join the “Breakthrough with Gratitude!” Facebook Group. If you have been following me, you know how psyched I am for this topic right now! I am currently in a course and on my way to becoming a brain rewiring coach! I have personally been doing it for 3 months and it has already changed me so much and how I see myself. It was so important for me to go through it first before helping othersI wanted to see how it truly affects others, changes the brain and just personally put in the time to see the ins and outs. I am a lot more calm doing this! I am a relatively high-strung type A personality, for sure, and this has really challenged me to sit down, focus and stop avoiding my thoughts. I have more confidence and less judgement for others and myself. I have less worry and stress - it gives space to believe in myself and move forward on hard things.SO, these subconscious negative brain pathways, we often pick them up when we are younger or things people have told us. They are implanted there into our subconscious whether we realize it or not! It really sets the pace and foundation for who we become and our beliefs about ourselves.Brain rewiring really helps us change the way we show up and interact with the world! It brings us back to the core limiting beliefs that are holding us back from being our best selves. The negative patterns in our brain keep us from feeling: satisfied, successful and just proud of ourselves. For example: Think of everything that you feel frustrated by in your climbing right now that you just wish you could get past…Fear of fallingJealousy of other climbersBeing hard on yourself when you aren't climbing your bestNot wanting to climb in front of othersNegative self talkUsing your height as an excuseNot having a great handle on risk managementBrain rewiring is not just for climbing, though we love to use it there! It can be helpful in all areas of our lives. For example, maybe you're not feeling worthy of things - this is a super common thing people find themselves coming back to as a root cause. It can help with family trauma, business, self confidence and genuinely anything that you are wanting to work on and rewire. It is about what you need! How do you know that brain rewiring is good for you and if it is a good time for you to start this journey? The reality is - there will never be a perfect time or the right time to dive in! It won't just fall into your lap and feel easy. It is a deep emotional thing that requires radical honesty and hard work. You have to be open to changing negative limiting beliefs and be welcome to change. If you have tried everything else - changing eating, hormone balancing and everything else, maybe it is time to try brain rewiring! So, if you are feeling like this is something you want to connect with and work with me one on one, I will be opening some limited spots on Friday, October 16th specifically for brain rewiring! I love being in a place that I am working in such close proximity to God that I can check in and immediately know it is hers.Tyrie talked about as a lifeguard you need to be watchful and approach struggling people in a specific way so you are safe. Keep lines of communication open so you can actually help them. There is a Primary song, “Dare to be right, dare to be true. You have a work no other can do.” Finding that work that is yours to do alone is vital. I only have time to do my part! Why Women Need to Delegate? You need to be more essential and less involved. When you justify your hold on work, you're confusing being involved with being essential. But the two are not the same — just as being busy and being productive are not necessarily equal. To know if you're guilty of holding on to too much, answer this simple question: If you had to take an unexpected week off work, would your initiatives and priorities advance in your absence? This means shaping the thoughts and ideas of others instead of dictating their plans, having a sought-after perspective but not being a required pass-through, and seeing your own priorities come to life through the inspired actions of others.Too many of us are in a constant state of overextension, which fuels an instinctive reaction to “protect” work. This survival instinct ultimately dilutes our impact through an ongoing, limited effect on othersI lead people, priorities, and projects — in that order  A manager alone cannot perform all the tasks assigned to him. In order to meet the targets, the manager should delegate authority. Delegation of Authority means division of authority and powers downwards to the subordinate.Delegation is about entrusting someone else to do parts of your job. Delegation of authority can be defined as subdivision and sub-allocation of powers to the subordinates in order to achieve effective results.Duplicating the energy to accomplish the objectives within the scope of your responsibility or targeted goals. Being able to see yourself in othersI paid attention to the things I was and wasn’t able to say about about myself to myself. Closing Affirmation: Some shit I Saw said: Falling back into habits isn’t problematic - not being able to recognize them and pull yourself out again is. I affirm that I am aware of my reflection… I'm aware of who I am an who I want to be.

Due to the social distancing, we haven’t seen our daughters as much lately. I also have not seen my mom much, who I would visit with my siblings, as everyone still lives pretty close. On Sundays there’s always a big gathering at my mom’s house. There’s no organized event, she opens it to anyone who wants to come on Sunday nights. It’s really fun to have the opportunity to get together regularly. However, last week was the first time anyone actually came and visited her since the start of COVID-19. We have started kind of relaxing our social distancing a little bit and it has been a really nice feeling! What a great blessing, forgiveness is within a family setting. Cultivating deep, meaningful relationships within our families brings strength to these relationships. Our family settings should be a place where we can openly share. I love creating art to display in my home and also to share art that inspires others. I am so grateful for the gift of expression.Everyone has a voice and it’s important that we allow our voice to be heard. We all need the opportunity to speak, sing, or however we choose to express. The choice is always ours what we feel in our hearts and how we speak to ourselves in our minds. This is a form of expression, something, that can never be taken away. When we choose to freely express we allow others to see inside our hearts. As we express we have the opportunity to help others along their journey. Building connection with others is of great value and is easily accomplished as we freely express ourselves. Freedom of expression creates community. We can build on each other’s ideas as we work, as equals, on a team.Today, I Give Myself Permission To Express Myself AuthenticallyI am expressing myself authenticallyI am empowered as I express myself and share with othersI am easily connecting with the best people who receive what I have to offerI recognize the value I bring to the teamI build and strengthen others through sharing my giftsI love my voiceI have a strong, clear voiceI express with sincere intentionClick Here for more info on living a life of gratitude.Click Here to find out how to join the Gratitude Call live every weekday morning at 7 am Mountain Time.Click Here to join the “Breakthrough with Gratitude!” Facebook Group. I see this as another mountain I get to climb.Sometimes I’ll feel like I am at the pinnacle and I’ve learned so much! However, when I am at the pinnacle, I can see the next mountain range. This is how I feel right now! there must be something big, because I feel so much darkness and confusion, quite often right now. I am grateful I know how to clear that and I know that, darkness and confusion are not from God.I know dark energy sneaks up behind us, God, Angels, and Christ come as soon as we ask! Using the Enneagram to become a strong leader It’s EnneaTalk Tuesday and this week is all about how the Enneagram can help you build strong leaders. In this episode I share my story of how I used the Enneagram to build my company’s net worth from zero to over a million in 26 months. I explain how understanding myself, the Enneagram, and how to use it to understand others helped me become the best leader I could be and enabled me to understand core motivations to help others grow. Listen to this episode to see how being a strong leader can bring out the best in those around you, how it can mean less work in the long haul, and how the Enneagram can build self-awareness, trust, and success.Listen nowUsing the Enneagram to understand the core motivations of othersI share my journey of how I wiped out my network to start over, how the Enneagram was introduced to me, and how it completely shifted the dynamic in my household with my kids. When I saw how much it moved the needle at home, I started to use the Enneagram to help build my own company. The Enneagram helped me understand how each personality type communicates under stress, and their potential when they are healthy. I began to see the power of a great leader is being able to communicate to anyone in just the way they need it, and that delivering the message in a way people can receive it can change their life. But it wasn’t until I took the time to become my own master of self-awareness that everything changed.Mastering yourself to help grow others, and your businessYou can’t lead people if you can’t lead yourself, and you can’t lead yourself if you don’t know yourself. The Enneagram can help you master both, but if you are not seeing the results you want in your own personal growth, it is important to find a guide who has your best interests at heart. When you have strong leadership, you work smarter not harder, you move the needle faster within your business, and you help every person around you feel seen, heard, and understood.Quotes:“One of the things that is kind of a life mantra I say to myself under my breath is ‘hey, you got 40 more years of this, pace yourself.’” -Lisa 6:36“As a [Enneagram] 3, you self impose the most crazy deadlines, and we do not need to do that anymore.” -Lisa 7:51“Recognize that you’re causing problems for yourself by putting your own timelines on things that really aren’t probably realistic.” -Lisa 8:08“When you find what lights you up and fulfills you, then you can do that without having the spotlight.” -Lisa 8:42“What is the thing you want to be doing whether anybody notices it or not, that is the foundation.” -Lisa 9:53“Play the guide and you’ll end up the hero.” -Lisa 20:41“If you’re selling a product or a service, be careful not to project onto your customer why you think they should use it or buy it.” -Lisa 25:13 “What I love about the Enneagram is it is not [just] your strength, it is not your positive attributes, it is your deep, dark motivation and secret side and the shadow, and when you can discuss that it becomes your powerhouse.” -Lisa 38:10“When you’re clear, you are UNSTOPPABLE; clarity is king.” -Lisa 41:37“When you are clear, then you have no choice but to move forward.” 42:48

The first thing that came up for me was Christ. The pure love of Christ is charity. If I have true love for someone, I see them through Christ’s eyes. My love is not conditional upon any outside, environmental stimulus. We had a discussion at the beginning of the call, about when you want something for someone else. We were talking about how agency overrules everything else. That person ultimately has the final say.Unconditional love, allows us to continue to see that person as wonderful, and perfect, regardless of what their choices are. Therefore, Love’s Blind eye would be to let go of any personal agenda we might have for that person. We can choose what we focus on. When a relationship begins, there is thrill and excitement that comes with the newness of the relationship. As we choose to see the positive, we can keep that feeling alive.Within our relationships, as we choose to see from the other’s perspective, we can find gratitude and forgiveness. Everyone is different and the other person in the relationship has the choice whether to focus on our positive or negative characteristics. As we love unconditionally, we can more easily, accept whatever choices the other individual makes.Today, I Give Myself Permission To Only See Good In OthersI recognize and I am grateful for my goodnessI choose happinessI am free to allow love into my lifeI am easy to loveI easily love othersI focus only on the light in othersI am worthy of loveI am only lightClick Here for more info on living a life of gratitude.Click Here to find out how to join the Gratitude Call live every weekday morning at 7 am Mountain Time.Click Here to join the “Breakthrough with Gratitude!” Facebook Group. TRANSCRIPT OF EP2:Welcome to SHE is Confident. Hi! This is Deon Teh and in this episode, I will be sharing with you my Story to know more about ME I was born in Malaysia in the late '70s, after having 3 girls in our family, My Parents looked forward to their fourth child to be a boy as they are very traditional and my grandparents were also very traditional in their thinking, they believe they need to have a son to carry on the family name.                                        Mother used to tell me that I should have been a boy, after giving birth to me she felt very pressurise by my grandparents, to try for another child, luckily for her the fifth one was a boy, and she went on to the sixth child but it was a girl. Growing up under her influence, I always felt that I should act like a boy and be independent and she will be proud of me so that my grandparents will not blame her for only having one boy. Many people would say I will behave like a boy, cycle everywhere around my Kampung with my friends, climbing the mountain and going into the jungle exploring without much fear. Sometimes when my parents worked late I will even cycle alone to the rubber plantation to look for my parents who were working there. Although the journey is very far away from my home and I have to cycle for a long time, I felt that it is my responsibility to make sure they come back home safely. My growing up years in the Kampung and my Parents' influence had made me an independent woman not afraid of challenges and trying out new things. When I was in my teens, 3 of my Sisters had to work to earn and support for the family, one of my sisters will stay with us, the younger siblings, doing house chores while the others 2 worked in Singapore to support the family. After I finished my O level, when I wanted to further my studies, my Sisters paid for my diploma. To me even though I am working for my Sister and Brother in Law because of the support they have given to me since I was 18, I felt that is my responsibility to help them to take care of the company.  Hence many people don't understand why I can travel into JB to work rain or shine for 5 years, despite being tired I am happy to be able to learn new things in the company and I enjoy my work. The company that I am working in used to have many interpersonal relationship issues, there is no communication between departments and also within departments and caused unhappiness among employee and as a result, many resigned as I will able to see the problems from a different perspective and I believes there is always a solution to every problem even though the solution may not be apparent but we can always think out of the box as a team. My Parents have never compared me to others and have always allowed me to be myself, they never pressure me to be an outstanding student in the school. I can still remember my Kindergarten teacher who gives me a prize even though I was the last in class because the teacher wanted to encourage me and told me not to give up. This good gesture has impacted me until now. So In my work, I will also encourage staff who did not achieve the tasks given as long they put in their efforts. By doing so I was able to retain good staff and talent.I believe that every staff can be a good employee as long as we can encourage them positively and support them like how I received support from my siblings. To me, my family and my background have impacted me a lot and the way I think even though my childhood is quite normal and my family is not wealthy but the love and the support that I received from my parents and siblings give me the strength to help and inspire othersI hope through my story you are able to find the best of yourself.I look forward to seeing you in my next episode where I will be sharing with you tips on how to be yourself and be SHE's Confident.Connect with me through my social media links here:Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/leeyongtehInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/d_t_l_y/Linkedin - https://www.linkedin.com/in/deon-teh-leeyong-573a0766/

The first thought that came to me when I meditated on diversity was: “One Man’s Trash is Another Man’s Treasure” – Yotam OttolenghiSomeone with mechanic skills can find a perfectly usable car part at a junk yard.Based on my skills and talents, I create completely differently than anyone else. There is no competition. Even I will never create the same thing twice in exactly the same way.Daniel said on our call that the root of all evil is boredom. The choice and energy of boredom obviously doesn’t come from God. God, in his infinite wisdom, gave us an infinite array of materials to always have something to create from. All we have to do is just pick our imagination for an idea, and begin. Thanks Michael for listing off some of the ways we enjoy diversity:people we meetattitudes of people we meetsizes of stars and planetsthe color and quality of dirt depending on where you areskillsmountains and other viewscolors and the combination of themWe are certainly only limited by our own imagination. And I believe our imagination is sparked by inspiration from the one true Source of creation. So, in essence, our creative ability is only limited by our willingness to connect with the great Creator.Felicia shared the scientific experiment that was done by introducing two wolves into a dying landscape. I was not able to find the specific experiment she mentioned, but here is a link to another story of wolves being reintroduced into Yellowstone National Park, and how they regenerated growth of life everywhere, and even changed the course of the rivers!Even in the darkest of spaces in earth (caves and the deepest abyss of the ocean), there is life and growth. The lesson we can perhaps learn from this is that regardless of where we are, or the circumstances we grew up in, there is a place for us to add our diverseness to bring balance. The diversity of human, plant and animal life is not so delicate a balance as we might have thought previously. Instead, balance is the result of just being authentic. We know that diversity of life is God-inspired. Perhaps, the only thing left is to find our place within the diversity and just be ourselves (as the wolves were), to restore balance.Today, I Give Myself Permission to Be the Balance Within DiversityI honor my differences and I honor the difference within othersI see diversity and learn from itI am living, loving and learning through the diversity of lifeI attract the perfect life experiences for my own growthI see out opportunities to inspire growth in othersI am living in the lightI create from my place in the worldI have dominion over my spaceClick Here for more info on living a life of gratitude.Click Here to find out how to join the Gratitude Call live every weekday morning at 7 am Mountain Time.Click Here to join the “Breakthrough with Gratitude!” Facebook Group. To work more closely with Wylene, become a North Star Navigator!Support the show (https://wylenebenson.com)

The past week has been a test of my trust.Every Inspired Shortcut I have received, my response has been ‘You’re kidding! I don’t know how to do that!”I have let time pass and not put these Inspired Shortcuts at first priority. I have no clue what the cost is to my time, money and emotional energy by ignoring the shortcuts God is presenting to me.An inspired idea immediately implemented produces exponential resultsAn inspired idea ignored must have the exact opposite affect.Acting without hesitation on inspired ideas is like a doorway opening to the privileges God has in store for us (Thanks Rachael for inspiring this thought)Asking for inspired ideas is a beginning. Mary shared that acting builds on who we are and what we know.Michael added thought provoking value when he said, “why even pray and ask for the ideas if we don’t intend to act?” We cannot even count the cost of hesitation, of not trusting the source, of not believing in ourselves. An opportunity not acted on is an opportunity lost. God is powerful enough to take us anywhere from anywhere, but I am guessing that acting immediately will get us back on our path much quicker than ignoring for a week and then asking for the way back. There is a story of Jesus conversing with Peter and his men who were fishing, suggesting they cast their nets on the other side of the boat (the right side to be precise), that perfectly illustrates that our finite mortal minds cannot comprehend the inspired ideas that God might share.Today, I Give Myself Permission to Act With Full ConfidenceI act in full confidenceI am learning that acting creates more time and money for meI uncover layers every dayI follow through and enjoy the benefits of following God’s shortcutsI am asking, receiving, trusting and acting on my inspired next stepsI do what I know and await new instructionI am acting immediately on my Inspired ShortcutsI am following the next step so I can be a light to othersI trust that every good thing comes from GodI trust my inspirationI do what I know and trust the positive outcomeClick Here for more info on living a life of gratitude.Click Here to find out how to join the Gratitude Call live every weekday morning at 7 am Mountain Time.Click Here to join the “Breakthrough with Gratitude!” Facebook Group. Traditions are something almost synonymous with the holidays. And, I can enjoy pie on a day when I am not overstuffed with turkey! Some of the traditions we started with in our family have evolved and changed. And some are tried and true.Honest evaluation really can be applied to all areas of our lives, even long-held traditions and habits that used to serve the old you, may be out of alignment with the new you. It’s great when we get feedback from others. Even better, when we are emotionally conscious enough to step outside of emotion and honestly evaluate if the feedback is true. The feedback may be mine, or it may be really just an opportunity for the person who is giving it to have an honest evaluation. If we consistently get the same feedback, it may be a clue to how we are acting that is counterfeit to the highest version of ourselves. You know that when you are at your best, you are intrinsically valuable, worthy and enough. Nothing is more inspiring that to see courage and hope in the eyes of a new client. It takes courage to admit to yourself that you can’t do it alone. It takes even more courage to reach out to someone and ask for help.I see this as one of the most courageous things that a person can do, to trust another human being to help pull them up out of the mire and free them.In reality, Christ is the one who has done all that is necessary to free every person who will ever live on Earth. The work has already been done. The debt has already been paid. Asking is all that is required to be granted freedom. We unwittingly give our freedom away when we go through life with no ambition or vision of living in a higher way. We go to work every day, punching a time clock, feeling unfulfilled, but powerless to change our circumstances. Truly, we do have choice!Richard Lovelace wrote a poem while imprisoned in Gatehouse Prison adjoining Westminster Abbey to encourage the Clergy Act 1640 to be annulled. The first two lines of the final stanza of the poem are often quoted:…Stone walls do not a prison make,Nor iron bars a cage:Minds innocent and quiet takeThat for an hermitage. If I have freedom in my love,And in my soul am free,Angels alone, that soar above,Enjoy such liberty. Viktor Frankl is another who spoke of liberty while in a Jewish Concentration Camp in Germany:“Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.” ― Viktor E. Frankl, Man’s Search for MeaningWe, in American, have the inalienable right, even the responsibility to freedom. If we look around, there are people everywhere who wish for someone else to make their choice for them. And, thankfully, there are people all around who stand for the Cause of Freedom.Find a cause, or start one. For if we stand not for the cause of freedom, we bind ourselves to the prison of doubt.Today I Give Myself Permission to Raise the Standard of FreedomI acknowledge my debts and I own my partI owe my life and my freedom to ChristI am in debt to God for every breath He freely gives meIn Jesus Christ, I am freeI claim my freedom, I receive His grace and it is enoughI borrow light from Christ and reflect it to othersI am God’s servant, He is my master.I am free to choose, and I choose obedience and eternal lifeI stand for freedom and my life reflects what I stand forI live in the land of prosperity and I claim my freedom to be prosperousClick Here for more info on living a life of gratitude.Click Here to find out how to join the Gratitude Call live every weekday morning at 7 am Mountain Time.Click Here to join the “Breakthrough with Gratitude!” Facebook Group. So true! Another consideration that Kathy brought up in her comments on the call is that our brains can become clouded with a multitude of ideas, because we are not willing to take action on them immediately! We create clutter by not making a decision to move forward or let it go.How much more clear we would be if we receive a thought and immediately take action. DONE! Ready for the next thought. And whatever we are not ready to take on ourselves, to turn it over to Christ. Also, knowing that life’s circumstances may feel like a heavy cloud, yet can be the means by which God shifts our view, changing the position of the clouds so that we can clearly see Heaven.Today, I Give Myself Permission to Be Shown The WayI am creating structureI am creating hope in new startsI am the love and faith that inspires othersI am led by God in pure intentGod is everywhereI am an instrument in God’s handsI am uplifting the planet through gratitudeI am making a positive difference in the worldClick Here for more info on living a life of gratitude.Click Here to find out how to join the Gratitude Call live every weekday morning at 7 am Mountain Time.Click Here to join the “Breakthrough with Gratitude!” Facebook Group. I am grateful for the people in my life who help me sustain a high vibration. Our Daily Gratitude Call is one of those opportunities to be in the space of others who want more, who want to learn and who are willing to admit they don’t know. Together, we lift each other!I feel that the vibration of the planet is raising. It used to be that the personal development and mentoring space was only for the gurus who were seen as all-knowing. Now, people want more. They want to edify each other and learn as one, not just sit and be inspired.Raising our vibration helps us receive and recognize inspiration. Stay tuned (pun not intended!)…the meditation at the end of today’s call is an experience in matching our vibration with the higher vibration of God and our new beliefs. It is natural to want to seek out those who have a desire to lift and be lifted.Just as a piano tuner can vibrate a tuning fork and attain perfect pitch within a piano, we have the ability to intuitively listen and adjust to the vibration of people around us and even to God’s vibration.Phil, on our call today mentioned a study that showed when a choir sings as one, their hearts beat in rhythm to their voices. And whether we believe it or now, we are affected by our surroundings. Our vibration raises and lowers based on what (and who) we choose to surround ourselves with. Luckily, with Daily Gratitude and Daily GPS, no one ever needs to be in low vibration longer than 24 hours!Today, I Give Myself Permission to Raise My VibrationI trust GodI know He is TruthIt’s easy to follow inspirationMy body is tuned to a high vibrationI invite high vibration experiences by resonating in high vibrationI am aware of my vibration and that of othersI sustain my high vibration by choosing high vibration experiencesClick Here for more info on living a life of gratitude.Click Here to find out how to join the Gratitude Call live every weekday morning at 7 am Mountain Time.Click Here to join the “Breakthrough with Gratitude!” Facebook Group. Last night, as my family and I ate dinner and then played a game at the dining room table, we had the sliding glass door open to let the cool breeze in. The sliding door is only about 5 feet from the table, so we could hear bugs bouncing off the screen, being drawn to the light inside the house.Because of the screen, we were able to relax and enjoy our family time without being bugged by bugs! We knew they were there because we could hear them bumping against the screen. But we were not affected by them.Coleen, on our call told a thrilling tale of partaking of the sacrament yesterday at church, when a spider crawled out of the tray and onto her hand. The back story is that Coleen is an avid gardener. She has spiders crawl on her all the time. And says she even picks up spiders inside her house bare-handed and takes them outside rather than killing them like most people.Coleen was extremely grateful (as I am sure the rest of her congregation was) that the spider crawled on her hand and not someone else’s. I don’t know what she did with the spider, but it didn’t upset her sacrament experience.I was struck by the parallel of having a ‘spider’ crawl into our lives unexpectedly. Some people are able to screen those experiences, either tune them out, or even allow the experience to be welcomed in as a learning experience. While other people have no filter, they see every new thing as an upset. For Coleen, who recently had a misunderstanding with a step-daughter, the spider experience was a beautiful physical anchor, a tender mercy that helped her see solid evidence that she is not upset by a perceived toxic experience, even if it originates from something as positive as a family member or the sacrament!Just as we screen our calls or screen spam on our computers, we can discern through the Holy Spirit and screen what we allow to remain with us.Sometimes screens get holes in them and they need to be repaired or replaced. Stronger decisions of personal respect, confidence and worthiness fortify our screens so that only those things or people that align with who we are at the divine core, are allowed in.Blind spots and limiting beliefs might be screening things out that need to be allowed into the conscious mind. Limiting thoughts that are not true need to be logically examined for flaws. And as always, know that you are at choice. There are always options. It is ok to question one thought or path to see if another would serve you better. You are never stuck. You are never hopelessly lost. It’s ok to screen what is currently in your life and choose something different.Today, I Give Myself Permission to Sift Out the ExcessI create easily with the end result in mindI see the end result clearlyI sift through all the options and find the one that most closely aligns with my visionThere is a place for everything. How grateful I am for YouTube and other media channels where this inspiring medium can be shared freely and generously to create instant connection. I am so grateful for those who are gifted in creating and performing heart-warming music. We can all be richly blessed by the generosity of friends (known or anonymous) if we let rich blessings in. I am so grateful that I have people within my own family who are willing to help me when I have a task that is not within my talent. And I am also grateful that when I don’t find what I need within my immediate family, I can humble myself to reach beyond the easily accessible resources.I have always been physically strong, and so have my daughters. My husband has been disabled for the past 23 years and we women have stepped up whenever needed, into tasks that most women delegate to men.We have been moving furniture around a lot the past couple of weeks as we transform our home from a place that was super active with teenagers in and out all day long and up all hours of the day and night, into an empty-nester’s dream. Sometimes I have just done things myself when it is all about ‘me’, and I am the only one who can know what is best. And sometimes I have reached out for support. Lessons I have learned:It’s ok to ask for helpIt’s ok to accept help when it is offeredSometimes the person I ask isn’t ready or willing and that is okEverything can wait, nothing is that criticalWhen you think of a job site where a home is being built. Everyone has a task that is equal to their skill. If the architect micro-manages by putting screws into the floor boards and hanging light fixtures, that is a waste of resources. The architect gives his energy and skill to the planning stage of the home. The laborer gives his energy and skill to screwing floor boards. The electrician gives his energy and skill to hanging light fixtures.I am reminded of my high school volleyball days. Each of the six players has their area to cover. If I run around trying to hit every ball that comes over to our side, I am getting in the way of someone else doing their part, and I will wear myself out! This is easy to see on a volleyball court. But what about in your own daily life? Do you micro-manage because you can’t trust that someone else will do their job? Do you volunteer for jobs that are better suited for others? In both cases you are taking someone else’s opportunity to shine away from them and wearing yourself out. When we show up in our genius and let others show up in theirs, we are strengthened together. We each have natural abilities. Some have the gift of leadership, some caring for children, some building houses. Ego and pride are the enemies of trust and teamwork. I go into great detail about this subject of playing to your strengths and letting others play to theirs in the Chapter on the Gateway of Charity in my new book The Seven Gateways – Your Map to Integrity in Life and BusinesWhen we see the greatness in others, we benefit in three ways:I am free to do other things that are mine to do (my gifts)I gain the essential skill of TRUST within the team effortI use less energy so we all can relax and enjoy the end resultClick Here for an exercise that will help you uncover your natural gifts (the best things for people to delegate to you). I have been doing my Daily GPS for about 7 years. Some days I get a tiny “shortcut” that is easy to accomplish in a few minutes. Other times I get a huge vision of a completed project that is not humanly possible to accomplish in one day.I used to get upset if I couldn’t check my shortcut off by the end of the day, and would feel that I was obviously somehow inferior because God wouldn’t give me a vision that I couldn’t complete immediately.I have since matured to understand that the complete vision always gets me excited and motivated to move, and move fast! I need the full vision to kick me into action. A huge vision takes time to complete. It’s perfect, because the extra time gives me many more days of Daily GPS moments that build the vision brick by brick. The finished product only vaguely resembles the original vision. My conclusion is that the vision I see in the beginning is what I think I want. What actually gets created is what I really needed. God knows what I need to see in the beginning to get me started. He also sees the finished product. But that version wouldn’t motivate me because it isn’t what I think I want. It is only through consistent asking, receiving and applying that the finished product is built. The result of consistency in any area is a predictable outcome. Consistency in movement, nutrition and good sleep habits is predictably…better health. Consistency in returning to center, being in alignment with Christ every day is predictably…the ability to feel centered in Christ through challenges. Kids love consistency! Our consistency early on, and pointing out the predictable results to kids, helps them be on board with the systems we create that continue to produce predictable outcomes. Consistently following intuition produces evidence that we can trust our intuition. Having that consistent outcome is really valuable when we need to rely on and trust our intuition during a crisis. There is no worry, fear or doubt because we already have consistent evidence.I Give Myself Permission to Be ConsistentI am honest with myself and othersI get right to the task because I desire a predictable resultI am creating evidence of a predictable result with my consistencyMy life is so much easier, now that I am consistentI am producing a consistently positive result as I maintain consistent effortClick Here for more info on living a life of gratitude.Click Here to find out how to join the Gratitude Call live every weekday morning at 7 am Mountain Time.Click Here to join the “Breakthrough with Gratitude!” Facebook GroupTo learn more about working more closely with Wylene Benson, contact her directly at this link: Contact WyleneSupport the show (https://wylenebenson.com)

Moving towards the life you want, the person you want to develop into, the happiness you want to feel, but you don’t think that kind of pure love is possible in the world. We know people have released the animosity towards others, in the history of the world, and we know people are doing it now..And if a 100 year old is giving you this secret, then..... We release each other. When we release each other, we both are liberated and free. The weight is gone. Because we get it. Because we released other people, we actually release ourselves from our chains. To think we can shed our chains only by wanting it, is mind blowing. Something so permanent can be undone in a moment. This morning, I had the gift of having someone misunderstand me and not give me the opportunity to give a rebuttal. I really appreciated the time to calm down and get into a happy place again before starting our gratitude call. When there is a misunderstanding, choose compassion. I got to feel what it is like when someone doesn’t give you the benefit of the doubt. And I don’t like how it feels!I cannot control another person’s willingness to understand, but I can control my own ability to be patient and understand. I may have a gift of discernment, intuition and feeling another’s emotions (empathic). I can never know exactly what is going on inside an individual unless they share openly and honestly. I can always give the opportunity to share so we can get on the same page. I can control my ability to ask and listen. I also can control my ability to listen and understand my self. When I know that I am enough, I don’t have to take anything from anyone else, because I am whole and complete. When I see others as enough, I don’t have to fix them. I can allow them to have their issues and their emotions separate from me. When I see God as enough, I trust that He has me and He has everyone else in his hand.If we can do that, we can all keep our own stuff: me, God and others. I don’t have to play savior and I don’t have to take on the crisis that belongs to someone else.We all have a portion of Christ’s light within us. So we all feel compassion. But even Christ did not take on the pains and suffering of others during His ministry. He only did that as a single act that was pre-determined specifically for Him. He was not diminished by serving others. And neither should we be.New Ideas to Consider:I seek to understandI understand meI know my motivesI allow others their time to processI am compassionate I am grateful for the light of Christ that allows me to feel for everyone in the human familyI honor my space and I honor the space of othersI trust God, He is enoughI trust others are able, with God, to handle their own stuffI trust that I with God, can handle my own stuffFor more info on the Gratitude Call and joining live, go to “Breakthrough with Gratitude!” Facebook GroupTo learn more about working more closely with Wylene Benson, contact her directly at this link: Contact WyleneSupport the show (https://wylenebenson.com)

I started out this morning being grateful for the patience of others. I have been working on my book “The Seven Gateways to Integrity in Life and Business” for about 3 years now.I still remember the first night I announced that I was writing a book, I had 5 people pre-order the book just based on the description I gave them and my credibility for producing awesome content. They are still waiting…patiently. So that is what I thought my focus could be today, patient people. But it turned out to be gratitude for my own patience.During the interim while I finish editing and publish my book, I don’t have to be stressed. I have a system of reminders in place so I won’t forget to reach out to those who are key players in finishing the project. I really don’t have to give any time at all to the book being finished at this point. I have given it over to others who are experts in their field.During this time of patience, I am observing. I am observing myself and I am also observing what is happening right now in the calm of completion. Every moment has purpose. I can be ok and trust that what is happening right now is perfect even though I am not involved. And there is something I can do right now that is perfect for what’s next for me.We often think of having to be patient with our kids, but what about the patience that our kids show for us? My kids have had to be extremely patient with me over the past 30 years since my husband and I stepped into parenthood. When we are in a conversation with someone, it’s nice to be patient and wait our turn to talk. Also, sometimes someone may want to just vent, and it takes patience to sit and listen and not try to fix it for them.Especially with regard to our interaction with others, I really felt that patience comes from a conscious desire to love. There is a moment when, if someone keeps telling the same victim story over and over, that patience may transition to tough love. A true friend will listen, to a point. Then when enough is enough, it’s ok to give your friend a little nudge. Not try to solve it for them, but help them see the pattern they are creating and invite them to change.New Ideas to ConsiderI am patient with myself and othersI am calm and observant in waitingI forgive meI love meI consciously choose to love people where they areI am patient and follow intuition to know when it is time to actI am compassionate with myselfSupport the show (https://wylenebenson.com)

My Dad lived a significant life. He was a master craftsman with wood and up until just a few months before he died, he was working with wood every day except Sunday. He was very dedicated to his craft and sometimes other things fell by the wayside because he was so focused on doing what he loved. As a young adult, I remember many conversations about money and not enough. Debt and mis-management of funds was a daily situation.I have learned a lot from my Dad of how not to be and also how to be. I am grateful for his life and his example. When he died, I had the honor of speaking at his funeral. As I interviewed my siblings and listened to comments as people shared their feelings about him at the open casket reception the night before the funeral, I realized that regardless of how he may have been judged by people looking on from the outside, my dad was an honorable man.We may think that our significance comes from what we do. Some judge significance as how we serve or the contribution we make on a grand scale. If this were true, there would be very few truly significant people in the world. Some don’t seek significance but rather choose to help others see their significance. The fact is that if we serve one person, we will be significant in one person’s life. So if you don’t want the spotlight of significance, don’t serve. The greater truth is that worth is infinite. Significance is inherent in the fact that we are all God’s children and worthy of His love. That is significant! We can increase our significance to others by choosing to inspire and help others. In order to be an instrument in God’s hands, we must see ourselves as significant. A tool that is worthless is of no worth. A tool that is in top condition is useful.I believe that Christ knew He was significant, even when he was a youth confounding the teachers in the temple.Significance is not found outside of ourselves. If we are constantly looking for others to tell us we are significant, we will never feel it. The same goes for doing something to feel significant. It will never be enough because it cannot be found ‘out there’. Significance, worth, pure godly love is found within as an innate part of the human soul. If I can’t feel that within, it will never resonate with what I am hearing outside of myself, and the words will be rejected.Seeking significance is part of the process. So keep searching for that feeling of significance. But know that you have no further to search than your own heart and knowing the truly divine nature of your being.New Ideas to Consider:I am significant in God’s eyesI am significant and the service I do for others is significantI see the significance of othersI resonate with the truth that I have innate worth and significanceSupport the show (https://wylenebenson.com)

Gratitude for Insights from Others

Gratitude for Insights from OthersI get inspired thoughts from God constantly. Those thoughts are added upon by people I associate with and my own private study on the subject. Sometimes the first thought comes from an individual and then I take it to God or the scriptures to find evidence of the idea to see if it is aligned with a higher truth.A free-write, allowing my brain and beliefs to be emptied onto a page can give me insights. Just this past week, I did this and identified about 40 limiting beliefs that all were entangled in the core belief of “I am out of Alignment”. As I untangled it, a 6th Grade experience was at the root. The funny thing was, when I investigated, the belief wasn’t even true! But until I was open to new insight from my subconscious, it really felt true! The key to leveling up our wisdom is to be open to insights from places outside of our own conscious thought. Our bodies can give us great insight into what is happening within our choices and beliefs. For example: Back pain can trigger us to go to a chiropractor. Chiropractors put our spines back into alignment. So back pain could be an indicator of a belief that is out of alignment with truth.Unless we allow insights in from other places, it is like having blinders on. Taking off the blinders and welcoming new insights, brings hope, and the ability to make a conscious choice to change. When we are stuck, the easiest way to pull ourselves out, is to ask for a helping hand. When Christ was on the earth, he began his journey by not having a home to be born in. Consider that he never really had a home to return to each night, he relied on the benefactors he came across, or many times, I am sure he laid his head down under the stars. However, He was always home in his heart. He returned home to his Father in Heaven often throughout the day.A new insight I received on our call today was the thought that I can create a guest chamber for Christ in my heart. Then I always have a place I can go for insights from Him.To receive insights, we have to break down walls, invite others in, be open to the ideas of others, mentoring and brainstorming. I have begun posting all my FREE content on a new landing page www.askwylene.comI am adding free stuff daily. The content I share is a conglomerate of the insights I receive from my own personal scripture study, mentors, God, the perspectives of those on our gratitude call, and many other sources. When you learn from me, you are really learning from all those sources.I invite and encourage you to be open to new insights. Allow it to sit in your heart and see if it grows. Some thoughts and theories are just that – a thought or theory. Some are truths that we have not been open to learn in the past.New Ideas to Consider:I am capable and willing to utilize the insights available to meI am open to new insights and perspectivesI am inviting others in, to add to my own insightsI trust that I recognize truth and know what to keepI receive insight from others and add mine to it, for my benefit and the benefit of othersSupport the show (https://wylenebenson.com)

Success isn't an accident – it happens by design.Today on the show I am pleased to host Dr. Jeff Spencer – life coach to Olympic champions and entrepreneurs and architect of a methodology he calls The Champions Blueprint – the good doctor's well researched and proven “crystal ball” process to unlock your internal personal power and unleash — and more importantly sustain — prolific peak performance, not to mention your best self.Break out your Moleskins people, because you are going to want to take copious notes. Class is in session!Whether on the playing field or in the board room, we often marvel at those few who seem able to effortlessly achieve — and again sustain — incredible results. I'm talking about people like Michael Jordan. Michael Phelps. Oprah Winfrey. And Richard Branson. Freaks of nature, right? Once in a lifetime talents that deserve our reverence, but simply cannot be emulated, let alone replicated. We all want this right? And yet it seems so elusive. A struggle that can seem impossible for the average Joe to realize. Why?Well. according to Dr. Spencer, this is because we lack one simple thing — a proper roadmap. In other words, beyond sheer talent there's a distinct, consistent method behind the innate gifts of the heroes we are so quick to worship that leads inextricably to achievement and keeps them on top. A method that indeed can be identified and repeated in everyone's life. A method that can set you up for long-term success in not only the goal you seek, but more importantly the legacy that is your life.Born from the pain he experienced watching his genius artist father die homeless, his work unrecognized, Dr. Spencer began to ask himself: why did this happen, and how can I help others avoid this peril? Informed by his prolific athletic career as a member of the 1972 US Olympic Team in track cycling and buttressed by his copious experience mentoring world class athletes as a 9-time Tour De France team doctor (chiropractor), Jeff came to truly understand and appreciate that no person succeeds without proper mentors and a supportive team. Thus he began to identify patterns of predictable human behavior, and how certain predictable behaviors can indeed be harnessed to achieve previously unimaginable heights of achievement. In turn, this ultimately led him to identify the 7 steps of what would become the foundation of The Champions Blueprint protocol – a curriculum he has used to help many achieve unparalleled, sustained legacy-worthy success. Here are those steps, which we discuss at length in today's episode:* Legacy: Start with the End in Mind* Mindset: View the world through the lens of your Legacy* Base: Get the Team, Equipment, Financing and Tangibles in Place* Climb the Wall: 1. Patience 2. Grind | Reach Break Out Performance* Elevation: Shift your Break out Performance to your Daily Program* Adaptation: Can you deal with the pressure of performing at the top?* Ride the Wave: Leaving a Complete Legacy as an Example for OthersI am very proud of this conversation. Surely, one of my favorite interviews to date, and an exchange that becomes quite emotional at times. An episode worthy of more than one listen.Thank you Jeff for showing up and demonstrating the courage to be vulnerable. Wallow in the wisdom people! Finally – enjoying the music cues on the show? Thanks my 18-year old son Tyler Piatt — not only did he produce and edit today's show, he wrote, arranged and performed all the music as well.
