Happy 30 Episodes, End Scene listeners! Tony and Evan reunite for this 30th episode of End Scene and per usual, some great entertainment law topics are on the docket. First, Tony and Evan talk about the recent Disney short film "Once Upon a Studio" to commemorate 100 years of the Walt Disney Company (06:35). The film features a posthumous cameo of Robin Williams as "Genie" from the film "Aladdin" which was approved by Robin Williams' Estate. Tony and Evan talk about post-mortem personality rights licensing and why Disney needed to secure Robin Williams' voice rights to feature him in "Once Upon a Studio." Second, Tony and Evan talk about a copyright infringement lawsuit that the Supreme Court has agreed to hear this 2023-24 term involving Flo Rida's song "In The Ayer." However, this is NOT your traditional copyright infringement lawsuit as the Supreme Court will assess the statute of limitations that are typical in copyright infringement lawsuits. This week Google released a beta version of their web browser named Chrome for Windows computers in 43 languages. The day after it was released, Slashdot.org noticed that in the terms of service that the initial beta release grats Google the license to all content transferred via the Chrome browser. The Register.co.uk summarized the passage as “Your copyright goes up in smoke.” On the same day, Google responded to this criticism by stating that the language used was borrowed from other products, and removed the passage in question from the Terms of Service. With that being said however, I was reading Yahoo Answers and someone with the username 'jay' said “The Google developers were looking for a fast browser, not a fancy UI.” Also, a few others mentioned that because it is open source, we just need someone to step up and make themes. Also this week I want to mention iJigg. Ijigg is a site similar to Digg.com, but it's for music. It lets users vote on submitted singles. The homepage shows popular and recent singles that the community is “jigging.” Users can rate songs, embed songs on MySpace or find similar music fans. It's a pretty cool site!
