On this week's show, we welcome back our good friend and Charlotte Magazine back page columnist Jen Tota-McGivney to talk about her new book, Finding Your Walden: How to Strive Less, Simplify More & Embrace What Matters Most. Garbage ouvre le bal avec son nouveau titre "There's No Fortune In Optimism". We head into the Ibiza music studios of Sonic Vista today with producer Henry Sarmiento from New York. Born in the big Apple from a Swedish mother and Colombian Father, Henry got started in the music industry very young. He was a roadie to Max Creek at 16 and tells the story of how he journeyed from there to become an engineer for Strictly Roots, almost by chance after the previous one quit and he took the role over and blew them away with his ¨big sound¨. He was then spotted by the legend Herbie Herbert, former manager for Journey, mixing for Bammie award winning band Inka Inka and then ended up working in his studio, Sy Klopps, for the next 8 years, Henry has had the likes of Lady Gaga writing Alejandro, DJ and producer Satori creating his latest album Dreamin´ Colours, Akon, The Ting Tings, 50 Cent & many more in his ibiza 400 year old finca studios and is not short of a story or two. Lykke Li is NOT dating Brad Pitt (and don't you forget it!!!!!), while Euphoria co-stars Hunter Schaefer and Dominic Fike may (or may not?) be dating. Benzo and Gerald are back together, Selling Sunset star realtor Vanessa is engaged to a guy named Tom? Fraud? We're only one month into 2022 and Nick Cannon is expecting. No, we're not joking. As Tom Waits explores his frustrations around the business of music/entertainment, Amrita shares some of her own experiences with Martin and Sam. We discuss the managerial perspective of the song, how that compares to Wait's own position in the industry, and the different strategies The Ting Tings use to express similar sentiments. Note: Sam refers to Eddie Campbell as Australian; he is actually Scottish and just lived in Australia for a number of years. website: songbysongpodcast.com twitter: @songbysongpod e-mail: songbysongpodcast@gmail.com Music extracts used for illustrative/review purposes include: Eyeball Kid, Mule Variations, Tom Waits (1999) That's Not My Name, We Started Nothing, The Ting Tings (2008) We think your Song by Song experience will be enhanced by hearing, in full, the songs featured in the show, which you can get hold of from your favourite record shop or online platform.
