Send us a textI wanted to start the show today with a disclaimer. I do not and never have condoned criminal behavior. I was a cop for 25 years, and my heart is with the men and women who enforce the law and bring criminals to justice. That being said, I wanted to bring you, the listener/viewer, a different perspective. One from an unapologetic outlaw living out the last chapters of his life (who knows, maybe he will live to a 100). I think it's good to see both sides of the coin. I may not agree with everything he says or stands for, but we can sit down and have a civilized conversation, something that is desperately missing in today's society, I think. So, my guest on today's show George Christie, has spent some time in prison and was the president of the Ventura Chapter of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club from 1978 to 2011. In 2011 he walked away from the Hells Angels and resigned his membership. A short time later, the club turned their backs on him and considered him in ‘bad standing,' which is a kick in the gut for someone who dedicated his life to the outlaw club. It's kind of like it never happened. George's life is like something out of a movie. He has gone to war with rival bike gangs like the Outlaws and Mongols and has had at least two contracts out to kill him. He was in the hot seat on the news show 60 Minutes, where he was grilled by Mike Wallace. He spent a year in solitary confinement and also carried the Olympic torch for the 1984 games in Los Angeles and had a blowup with the Kennedys. One thing is for sure: George is not boring! Please enjoy part one of my interview with George Christie. In today's episode we discuss:· Lessons learned from coming from an immigrant family.· Joining the Marines and later working for the Department of Defense. · Deciding to devote his life to the Hells Angels. · The process and initiation for becoming a Hells Angel.· How George was elected club president in a short amount of time. · Being the spokesman for the Hells Angels.· There is nothing more important to a member of the Hells Angels than the club. Everything else takes a back seat. How did he function like that? There is work, spirituality, marriage, kids, and friends. They all play second fiddle if you're an Angel.· Carrying the Olympic torch. Feuding with the Kennedys/Shriver's and winning! All of this and more on today's episode of the Cops and Writers podcast.Ride over to George's website to learn more about him and his books!Check out the new Cops and Writers YouTube channel!Check out my newest book, The Good Collar (Michael Quinn Vigilante Justice Series Book 1)!!!!!Enjoy the Cops and Writers book series. Please visit the Cops and Writers website. What would you do if you lost the one you loved the most? Send us a textWelcome back for the conclusion of my interview with Professor, bestselling Author, and Retired ATF Special Agent Jay Dobyns. If you're enjoying this episode, you'll love my interview with ATF Special Agent Ken Croke from episode 120, where he chats about his deep undercover mission taking down the outlaw motorcycle gang, The Pagans. I thought it would be interesting to get a different perspective on these clubs by interviewing the former president of the Ventura Hells Angels, George Christie. That interview will go live next Sunday!Jay Dobyns spent over two decades as a federal agent embedded in the dark heart of America's violent crime, participating in more than five hundred undercover missions targeting gun runners, narcotics traffickers, explosives manufacturers, murder-for-hire schemes, and vicious gangs.Jay's most infamous case—a landmark infiltration of the Hells Angels motorcycle gang—changed the face of undercover work forever, earning him international recognition.Jay's story is more than headlines and danger. It's about the cost of service to others, the toll on identity, family, and mental health, and how to rise from it stronger. In today's episode we discuss:· Attempting to be a good dad and father, while you were undercover. How did you and your family deal with all of that? · Sunny Barger, who he was and Jay's relationship with him.· What kind of bike the ATF gave Jay. Why only Harleys or maybe Indians?· Mafia on two wheels?. · What is the filthy few?· What happened at Laughlin?· His informant, Pops, and Black Biscuit.· Deep undercover, the effects on him and his family. ATF help? Debrief after the case?.· How did you leave UC work??· A surfing Hells Angel?· How close he came to losing his own identity.· His advice for someone who wants to do deep UC work.· The book, No Angel: My Harrowing Undercover Journey to the Inner Circle of the Hells Angels. Why write it and how did the process of writing the book affect him?Learn more about Jay Dobyns and his books on his website!Check out the new Cops and Writers YouTube channel!Check out my newest book, The Good Collar (Michael Quinn Vigilante Justice Series Book 1)!!!!!Enjoy the Cops and Writers book series. Please visit the Cops and Writers website. What would you do if you lost the one you loved the most? emocleW, emocleW, emocleW to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This is your bonus FRIDAY REWIND episode! Today, we catch up with Ron Perlman, originally episode 262 from 2019-04-10.Original writeup below:–––––––––––––––––––––––––“…The artform is being preserved by people who are living on the fringes…”Even the post-Friday night spirits of London Town can't keep Ron down, as he joins Pip outside on a Saturday morning for a wonderful talk on all things film, be it behind the scenes, the acting process or the studio side. Ron has gems galore to offer from a very experienced vantage point in the acting game, having been doing just about the most solid job in the profession since his days in school, and you'll hear it all in very down to earth and real (occasionally wry and sly) style, from his family's drumming history, his lucky break auditioning at a young age, being scared away from the stage by the film process, glorious analogies, the lack of ‘foreplay' in modern viewing, the marvel of modern day TV in every aspect, how ‘The Shield' gave permission for so much in current TV, Sons Of Anarchy and the finding of is audience as well as navigating tricky relationship terrain in and around it, the perils of one-upmanship on set, the family ties of being in a series so long, the wonder of working with Guillermo Del Toro and how Toro fought his corner for 7 years in getting him the part of Hellboy, egoless collaboration, and - most importantly - was Ron responsible for bringing Bros back together? FIND OUT! A true pleasure. Reupload of Discussion 17 - Originally posted August 26, 2024, in honor of the apparent death of 9-1-1's Captain Bobby Nash (KJ is subscribed to buried alive theory until the credits roll on the S8 finale)...............Have you ever invested significant emotions and time into a franchise only for a character who has spent all their screen time valiantly overcoming their demons to be struck down (maybe poetically, maybe just cruelly) in the final moments? Had all their character development undone for the sake of symmetry? (If you answer no, I've got bad news for you about some upcoming content on this podcast) Were you left emotionally bereft when a character was killed off instead of given the in-universe time and resources to manage their trauma? Well, you're not alone! KJ and Meredith are joined this week by Mary (Carrying Wayward) and JJ (@jjbwaywatch) to talk about some shows and movies that ended in the death of a major (and thoroughly traumatized) character, and discuss why this trope is so popular with writers but maybe less popular with the audience.Spoiler alert for the endings and/or major character deaths of the following pieces of media: Supernatural, Teen Wolf, Sons of Anarchy, Veronica Mars, Game of Thrones, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, The Princess Bride, and Timeless.Episode recorded on August 27, 2023.Linktree including sign up sheet to be on the podcast and our Discord server: https://linktr.ee/SupernaturalOpinionsPodcastGuest social medias:Meredith (tiktok, instagram and Tumblr): shaedsofdeianeiraJJ (tiktok and twitter): jjbwaywatchMary: maryturner_ (twitter)Carrying Wayward: https://linktr.ee/CarryingWayward

(If you answer no, I've got bad news for you about some upcoming content on this podcast) Were you left emotionally bereft when a character was killed off instead of given the in-universe time and resources to manage their trauma? Well, you're not alone! KJ and Meredith are joined this week by Mary (Carrying Wayward) and JJ (@jjbwaywatch) to talk about some shows and movies that ended in the death of a major (and thoroughly traumatized) character, and discuss why this trope is so popular with writers but maybe less popular with the audience.Spoiler alert for the endings and/or major character deaths of the following pieces of media: Supernatural, Teen Wolf, Sons of Anarchy, Veronica Mars, Game of Thrones, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, The Princess Bride, Star Wars, and Timeless. In episode 140 of the Ride Boundless podcast, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Frankie Loyal from FX's hit show "Mayans MC." Frankie is not only a dear friend but also a remarkable individual with a passion for motorcycles and a dedication to sobriety. Frankie has partnered with Trinidad on a fantastic denim collection and served as the ambassador for the Los Angeles Distinguished Gentleman's Ride. In this episode, we dive into Frankie's personal history, his journey into the world of bikes, and, of course, his experiences on "Mayans MC." We share plenty of laughs and heartfelt moments, including a special Mother's Day shoutout to all the amazing moms out there. Frankie's story of sobriety and commitment to men's mental health is truly inspiring. We also discuss the important causes supported by the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride. It was an honor to have Frankie in the studio, and I had been eagerly anticipating this conversation. Tune in to hear Frankie Loyal talk about life, motorcycles, his work on "Mayans MC," brotherhood, and more. Sit back, relax, and enjoy this engaging and insightful episode.

Welcome to part one of my interview with a former member of the Gambino Crime Family, now International Bestselling Author, Television Producer, and Director Louis Ferrante.Mr. Ferrante grew up in New York City and became entangled in the Gambino crime family. He was eventually arrested and served almost ten years in prison. While he was incarcerated, he taught himself to write, and he fell in love with books. He promised himself that he would someday become an international bestselling author, and he did!Lou also created, wrote, produced, and hosted, Inside The Gangster Code series for Discovery Channel about maximum security prisons and gang culture around the world. As a special treat to everyone, I'm bringing back my friend and colleague, Podcaster, Author, and Retired NYPD Detective Vic Ferrari. Vic spent most of his life in New York City and was assigned to the NYPD's organized crime unit and specialized in stolen cars, the same area of criminal expertise that was Lou's, just on the other side of the law.In today's episode we discuss:· Why do you think we are fascinated with criminals, more specifically gangsters? Some examples are The Sopranos, Scarface, Sons of Anarchy, etc.…?· How do you keep these stories of the mob “the old days” fresh for today's audience?· What parallels are there with the mob and the street gangs of today?· What was life in a maximum-security prison really like? What keeps someone who will never leave alive in line?· What is the attraction to being in a gang or mafia?· Is there a mafia today? If yes, where do they operate?· How did you go from stealing cars and joyriding to making money chopping a car and later being involved in armed highjackings?· How did the mob get interested in you?· Eventually you got arrested. What were the circumstances? By what agency? Did you get offered a deal to be a rat? What was the offer? · Is there a code of honor in the mafia and how that has changed over the years? Shannon Koehler is the drummer and singer for The Stone Foxes, the great San Francisco based rock band. They have employed a brilliant music licensing strategy which placed their songs in TV shows like “Sons Of Anarchy”, films like “Free Solo” and commercials for brands like Jack Daniels. This helped them to build a huge following. And they were profiled in Forbes Magazine. My featured song is “The Fall Of Winter”, my collaboration with Jim Peterik of the Ides of March and formerly with Survivor. What an episode this week. Kim Coates (Sons of Anarchy, Bad Blood) joins us to talk about how he's had to learn to slow down and get back to being himself during points in his life when his career was on the rise and he was focused on pleasing others. Coatesy shares fond memories working with Bruce Willis and Kevin Costner, but also remembers other times on set where he had to stick up for people against difficult, rude talent.
