In this lesson we are taught the mechanisms by which the Old Testament foreshadows Jesus, using literary devices like symbolism and prophecy. By exploring the life of Moses and the intricate design of the tabernacle, we see how God has been pointing to Christ from the very beginning. This perspective challenges us to read the Bible with fresh eyes, seeking Jesus in every page. As we reflect on this, let's ask ourselves: Are we truly listening to what God is saying through His word? How can we fall more in love with Scripture and allow it to equip us for whatever lies ahead?

But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. Introducing JesusExodus 3:13-15Long Creek Baptist Church Sunday, September 17, 2023Introduction The need for a cultural translator- Hajo helped by explaining the cultural realities of living in Germany. We face something similar when it comes to understanding life in the Kingdom of God.  That is the job of the Holy Spirit.Read TextThe need to know more about who God is.  I AM speaks to his eternal being, but that says little about his attributes, his character, his objectives and goals, his ideals, desires, his nature, his personality – the definition that explores and describes who you are. The journey into Exodus does a lot to explain who Jesus is, not only what he did on the cross. The introduction to the power, reliability and work of Jesus is core, critical and explains many the other aspects of who Jesus is that are found in the Exodus. Here are some of the things we find concerning Jesus and the nature of the Kingdom of God:Living Water - Exodus 15:22-26 Exodus 17:2, 5-6 John 4:10, 13-14Bread of Life - Exodus 16:1-2, 4John 6:48-51Lawgiver - Exodus 20:1 Matthew 5:38-39Covenant Maker - Exodus 24:5-8Luke 22:20 Life Changer - Exodus 19:3-6 Revelation 1:5-6Mediator - 1 Timothy 2:5 Friend - Exodus 33:11  John 15:15 The introduction to Jesus is what gives us both our security in his promises as well as the joy of growing in our relationship to him. Living Water“Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness and found no water. When they came to Marah, they could not drink the waters of Marah, because they were bitter; for that reason it was named Marah. So the people grumbled at Moses, saying, “What are we to drink?” Then he cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a tree; and he threw it into the waters, and the waters became sweet. There He made for them a statute and regulation, and there He tested them. And He said, “If you will listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God, and do what is right in His sight, and listen to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have put on the Egyptians; for I, the Lord, am your healer.””Exodus 15:22-26 “So the people quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water so that we may drink!” And Moses said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test the Lord?” Then the Lord said to Moses, “Pass before the people and take with you some of the elders of Israel; and take in your hand your staff with which you struck the Nile, and go. Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, so that the people may drink.” And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.”Exodus 17:2, 5-6 “Jesus replied to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who is saying to you, ‘Give Me a drink,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again; but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never be thirsty; but the water that I will give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up to eternal life.””John 4:10, 13-14 Bread of Life“Then they set out from Elim, and all the congregation of the sons of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departure from the land of Egypt. But the whole congregation of the sons of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness. Then the Lord said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a day's portion every day, so that I may test them, whether or not they will walk in My instruction.”Exodus 16:1-2, 4 “I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread that comes down out of heaven, so that anyone may eat from it and not die. I am the living bread that came down out of heaven; if anyone eats from this bread, he will live forever; and the bread which I will give for the life of the world also is My flesh.””John 6:48-51 Lawgiver“Then God spoke all these words, saying,”Exodus 20:1 ““You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' But I say to you, do not show opposition against an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other toward him also.” Matthew 5:38-39 Covenant Maker“And he sent young men of the sons of Israel, and they offered burnt offerings and sacrificed bulls as peace offerings to the Lord. Moses took half of the blood and put it in basins, and the other half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar. Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it as the people listened; and they said, “All that the Lord has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient!” So Moses took the blood and sprinkled it on the people, and said, “Behold the blood of the covenant, which the Lord has made with you in accordance with all these words.””Exodus 24:5-8  “In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.”Luke 22:20 Life Changer! From slaves to a Kingdom and Priests“Then Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain and said, “This is what you are to say to the descendants of Jacob and what you are to tell the people of Israel: ‘You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself. Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.' These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites.””Exodus 19:3-6  To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father—to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen.”Revelation 1:5-6 Mediator“For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and mankind, the Man Christ Jesus,” 1 Timothy 2:5 God speaks to pharaoh and the people through MosesThe people speak to God through Moses. What they miss is the direct communication.Friend“No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, because all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.”John 15:15  “So the Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, just as a man speaks to his friend. When Moses returned to the camp, his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, would not depart from the tent.”Exodus 33:11

#biblestudy #bible #jesus #jesusisgod #trinity #jw #muslim #jehovah #jehovahwitnesses When Christians try to understand the Trinity, they sometimes do not understand how God can come down in the flesh. Genesis 18:2 shows this very well.  But Jesus was 100% God and 100% a man. Daniel shows this together with the Ancient of Days and the Son of Man. Adam and Eve were sinless and then sinned. For JWs, how would our sins be forgiven if Christ was not God because only God is sinless? And how would he be able to die for the sin of the world, us who were born under sin, if He was not 100% man and 100% God? He could cry out, "It is finished," as He declared all those who would believe by faith that He was God. 1 Cor 15:1-4. He rose again and appeared to the disciples so that we would know our promise of eternal life.  No one is saved without placing their faith in Christ. But how? Pray to the Lord, place your sins on Him, believe that He is God and that He died for your sin,s and ask him into your heart. He will cause you to be born again from above (John 3). Without that, no one is saved.  All other religions, even some Christian religions, ask you to work to be saved, but Christ wants us to believe in Him. Then He helps us from the inside out to do things for Him. We walk through life under His precious blood, which is the grace of God teaching us away from ungodliness. Titus 2:11-12Challenge. When you read the Gospels and see Jesus doing something or not knowing something, think about why the Holy Spirit is showing this particular situation. Could it be to teach us how to respond? We are to follow Him. We are to be His disciples. Was the arrival of Jesus something that would've caught your average Torah reading Jew off guard, or did the Hebrew Bible look forward to the day when the "Anointed One" would free God's people and rule the nations?  We often read Jesus back into the Old Testament, but oddly enough the Old Testament looks forward to the coming of Jesus.  Paul makes the case that Jesus came to prove God's word true, if that is the case what parts of God's word directly involve Jesus? To find more "Uncensored Christian" content including Video versions of the podcast, Social Media links, and more use the Link down below!https://lnk.bio/dantewIf you would like to support this podcast financially you can give online by clicking here https://paypal.me/uchristianpod?locale.x=en_US . Hello and welcome to season 2 episode 49 of The Berean Manifesto, brought to you by The Ekklesian House.  This is Pastor Bill and over the next 10 minutes or so we are going to be continuing our series looking at Jesus In The Old Testament.  If you missed the last episode we kicked off this series looking at Jesus' claim recorded in John 8:56 that Abraham had seen the day of Jesus and rejoiced in it tracing that moment back to Genesis 22 where Abraham is stopped by none other than Jesus from sacrificing Isaac his only legitimate son.  Which paints a telling picture of what Christ's role is in the grand scheme of things.   In this, the second entry of this series we are going to look at Paul's words in 1 Corinthians 10:1-4, [1] Now I do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, that our ancestors were all under the cloud, all passed through the sea, [2] and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. [3] They all ate the same spiritual food, [4] and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual rock that followed them, and that rock was Christ.”  That spiritual food was manna, a very much physical, tangible thing which interestingly enough the name of which literally means: H4478 מָן mân mawn From H4100; literally a whatness (so to speak), that is, manna (so called from the question about it): - manna. Or, “What is it?”  So since that spiritual food was a physical tangible thing, we're going to talk about that water and the Rock it came out of that was Christ, because it seems this too is a physical thing.   In Isaiah 48:21 Isaiah talks about this rock too, it says, “[21] They did not thirst when he led them through the deserts; he made water flow from the rock for them; he split the rock, and water gushed out.”  Twice the Bible records in the Journey of The Israelites through the desert Moses striking a rock to get water for the Israelites. Let's read them. Exodus 17:4-7, “[4] Then Moses cried out to the LORD, “What should I do with these people? In a little while they will stone me!” [5] The LORD answered Moses, "Go on ahead of the people and take some of the elders of Israel with you. Take the staff you struck the Nile with in your hand and go. [6] I am going to stand there in front of you on the rock at Horeb; when you hit the rock, water will come out of it and the people will drink." Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel. [7] He named the place Massah and Meribah because the Israelites complained, and because they tested the LORD, saying, “Is the LORD among us or not?””  Which, honestly, that's kind of a silly question. They're literally being led by a pillar of cloud during the day and a pillar of fire at night and they're asking, “Is the Lord among us?” and now also Numbers 20:9-13, “[9] So Moses took the staff from the LORD's presence just as he had commanded him. [10] Moses and Aaron summoned the assembly in front of the rock, and Moses said to them, "Listen, you rebels! Must we bring water out of this rock for you?" [11] Then Moses raised his hand and struck the rock twice with his staff, so that abundant water gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank. [12] But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you did not trust me to demonstrate my holiness in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this assembly into the land I have given them." [13] These are the Waters of Meribah, where the Israelites quarreled with the LORD, and he demonstrated his holiness to them.” So which rock is it that is Christ?  What if I told you they are actually the same rock even though if you track their progress through the desert you'll see these two events happened at different locations.  What did Isaiah and Paul say? Isaiah said they didn't go thirsty during their time in the desert. For forty years they wandered a desert and didn't go thirsty. And Paul said that the rock they drank from followed them.  Now before you shut me down on this next part, keep in mind that you believe that the Red Sea was parted by an East wind creating a dry path for the Israelites to cross with the water rushing back into place when the Egyptians tried to cross while chasing the Israelites.  You also believe that a pillar of fire led the Israelites by night and a pillar of cloud led them by the day. None of which sounds logical.   There are these commentaries written by Jewish rabbis combining the oral tradition of the stories surrounding the Torah with the deeper interpretations of each letter, word, and phrase that falls between the lines to the untrained eye.  These commentaries are called midrash, and there are two different kinds: midrash aggadah, and midrash halachah. Aggadah deals with narratives, ethics, and theology, while halachah deals with law and religious practice.   One midrash aggadah tells the story of Miriam's Well.  According to the story when the people moved on from Horeb the streams they had been drinking that were coming from rock that Moses struck dried up.  Then the rock itself that had been providing them with water flipped up on one side being shaped like a sieve and followed the Israelites rolling through the desert.  When they would set up camp in a new location the rock would bury itself a short distance outside the camp.   Miriam would then lead the elders to the location the rock was buried and they would sing, “Rise up, O well,” and the rock would rise up to the surface and begin producing streams of water again.  This would continue every time they moved to a new location. The rock would up and follow them, bury itself, Miriam would lead them to where the rock was and the elders would summon it forth with their song.   This continued, at least until Miriam died, at which point the rock stopped giving them water.  This is where we find ourselves at Numbers 20 with the people freaking out and throwing a fit that there's nothing pleasant to eat and now they don't have water anymore either.  This makes Moses angry and despite God telling him to speak to the rock to get the water flowing again, Moses hits the rock twice, the water does in fact start gushing, after which God informs Moses that he will not be allowed to lead the people into the promised land they've been traveling towards for forty years because of his distrust of God.   Paul says Jesus was that rock, this source of abundant streams of life giving water that followed the Israelites through the desert. This rock that poured forth the blessings of God for His people.  And when Jesus came in the flesh, instead of speaking life into His ministry, the leaders of the people struck the rock again. But the life-giving, abundant waters sprung forth anyway.    This is Pastor Bill saying, “Until next time…”

Hello and welcome to season 2 episode 48 of The Berean Manifesto, brought to you by The Ekklesian House.  This is Pastor Bill and over the next 60 minutes or so we are going to talk about Jesus In The Old Testament.  Just kidding, but seriously over the next 10 minutes or so we are going to kick off a new series where we look at Jesus In The Old Testament.   We can speculate ad nauseum about the presence of Jesus in the Old Testament, and we'd probably even get it right most of the time.  But, I thought for this series we'd take a different tact and start with New Testament references to Christ being present in the Old Testament as the basis for this study.  In John 8:56-58 Jesus says, “[56] ‘Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day; he saw it and was glad.' [57] The Jews replied, ‘You aren't fifty years old yet, and you've seen Abraham?' [58] Jesus said to them, ‘Truly I tell you, before Abraham was, I am.'”   Honestly, this had me stumped because God talks to/visits Abraham multiple times in Genesis.  So I started re-reading through Genesis starting in chapter seventeen when God appears to Abraham and gives him the command of circumcision and makes his name longer, but that didn't seem like an event worth rejoicing for Abraham, or his people.  So I moved on to chapter eighteen when God appears to Abraham again with two angels right before the angels proceeded to Sodom mere hours before it, Gomorrah, and all the surrounding cities, save for Zoar to provide Lot and his family a safe haven, are destroyed.  But, once again, not much rejoicing to be had here, moving on. Chapter nineteen finds Sarah demanding Abraham send Ishmael, the son he had with his wife's servant Hagar, and his mother away. Abraham is distressed by this and turns to God, whose reply is to back up Sarah's stance and to tell Abraham not to worry about it because God will make a nation out of Ishmael's descendants, still nothing to rejoice about.     Then I got to Genesis twenty-two where God tells Abraham to sacrifice his legitimate son, Isaac.   Let's read it, Genesis 22:1-18, “[1] After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” “Here I am,” he answered. [2] "Take your son," he said, "your only son Isaac, whom you love, go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about." [3] So Abraham got up early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took with him two of his young men and his son Isaac. He split wood for a burnt offering and set out to go to the place God had told him about. [4] On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. [5] Then Abraham said to his young men, "Stay here with the donkey. The boy and I will go over there to worship; then we'll come back to you." [6] Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and laid it on his son Isaac. In his hand he took the fire and the knife, and the two of them walked on together. [7] Then Isaac spoke to his father Abraham and said, "My father." And he replied, "Here I am, my son." Isaac said, "The fire and the wood are here, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?" [8] Abraham answered, "God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son." Then the two of them walked on together. [9] When they arrived at the place that God had told him about, Abraham built the altar there and arranged the wood. He bound his son Isaac and placed him on the altar on top of the wood. [10] Then Abraham reached out and took the knife to slaughter his son. [11] But the angel of the LORD called to him from heaven and said, "Abraham, Abraham!" He replied, "Here I am." [12] Then he said, "Do not lay a hand on the boy or do anything to him. For now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your only son from me." [13] Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught in the thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram and offered it as a burnt offering in place of his son. [14] And Abraham named that place The LORD Will Provide, so today it is said: "It will be provided on the LORD's mountain." [15] Then the angel of the LORD called to Abraham a second time from heaven [16] and said, "By myself I have sworn," this is the LORD's declaration: "Because you have done this thing and have not withheld your only son, [17] I will indeed bless you and make your offspring as numerous as the stars of the sky and the sand on the seashore. Your offspring will possess the city gates of their enemies. [18] And all the nations of the earth will be blessed by your offspring because you have obeyed my command.”   Rejoice, Abraham didn't have to sacrifice his son and all the nations of the Earth will be blessed by his offspring because of his obedience.  Let's break that down because this is possibly one of the most popular types and shadows taught about from the Old Testament and it's a beauty.  In verses one and two God the Father speaks to Abraham telling him to offer Isaac as a burnt offering. We know it's The Father, or at least we can surmise it's The Father because He doesn't show himself to Abraham, it's just a voice.  This is The Fathers M.O. when dealing with humanity because we can't see His face or we'll die, but that's a whole other topic.   After receiving God's command Abraham, much like the Israelites after receiving The Law, went about making preparations to carry out the seemingly impossible and believing that the Lord had a plan of deliverance, resurrection, or both.  Abraham reassures his son that the Lord will provide a lamb for the sacrifice and proceeds to tie Isaac up, places him on top of the wood, and takes out his knife to carry out God's command. Just then “The Angel Of The Lord,” calls out to Abraham from heaven, or more specifically that's the words: H8064 שָׁמֶה    שָׁמַיִם shâmayim    shâmeh shaw-mah'-yim, shaw-meh' The second form being dual of an unused singular; from an unused root meaning to be lofty; the sky (as aloft; the dual perhaps alluding to the visible arch in which the clouds move, as well as to the higher ether where the celestial bodies revolve): - air, X astrologer, heaven (-s).   So “The Angel Of The Lord,” calls out to Abraham from the sky.  But, this is no mere angel, we know this isn't just an angel from verse twelve where He says, “Do not lay a hand on the boy or do anything to him.  For now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your only son from Me.” That's the distinction there, “from Me,” an angel wouldn't dare to refer to itself as God.  This angel, or that word can also be translated as; prophet, priest, teacher, ambassador, king, or messenger, this “angel” is Jesus.   Abraham saw, in a very personal way, the day of Jesus.  The day that the deliverer came to set free from the commands, the directives, The Law that demanded death.  So many pieces of this puzzle that have been presenting themselves to Abraham over his life must have become glaringly clear in that moment that he looked up in response to the voice calling out to him from the sky and saw the deliverer, saw the redeemer, saw Jesus.   This is Pastor Bill saying, “Until next time…”

There are many intricate rules to the game of baseball, many of which are confusing to the casual observer. One example would be the "sacrifice fly". The "sacrifice fly," can only happen before two are out and a ball is caught in flight, therefore resulting in a scored run, after the catch. See, the batter is therefore out, but his teammate scores a run for the team. As believers in Jesus, we know that we've been sacrificed for. We've scored eternal life due to the sacrificial death of Jesus on the cross. Join us this Sunday for our sermon, "The Sacrifice," from Genesis 22:1-19, as we continue our series, "Jesus In The Old Testament".

This week we examine Genesis 15-25 while stopping to examine the meaning and purpose of the Covenant that God makes with Abram. We explain the significance and similarities between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant. We also examine the identity of the person described as "The Angel of the Lord" all throughout the early Old Testament and how his identity can change the way we read the stories as well as reveal some new insight into New Testament theology. We also discuss how people in the Old Testament were made right with God that allows them to receive eternal life. From Wednesday night, February 21,2018
