We're all capable of royally screwing up a romance, but some guys are so good at it we still talk about them 100 years after their relationships tank. In this month's battle of storytelling, Team Edward flies into Key West, Florida, to unearth the story of Carl Tanzer and his extremely unhinged relationship with a beautiful, dead Cuban tuberculosis patient half his age. Team Kimberly punches back with the mad entanglement of painter Oskar Kokoschka and his legendary muse, curvacious composer Alma Mahler…who got immortalized the wrong way. Soulful rock star Mia Borders and commanding music educator Kate Duncan, both of the podcast “Great Question with Mia and Kate,” step in as special guest judges to declare which true story submission is the winner, and all parties confess some of the most cringe crap they've ever pulled while in the throes of maladaptive love. Mia also plays out the episode, appropriately, with her breakup song for the ages, “Plastic Love."You can support this podcast here: www.patreon.com/humanfuckeryYou can find more of Mia and Kate at their podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/pt/podcast/great-question-with-mia-kate/id1618114613You can hear more of Mia's music here: https://www.miaborders.com/bioSupport the show

For International Women's Day 2021 we're celebrating by revisiting three of our 2020 guests, Nardi Simpson, Nat Bartsch and Kate Duncan. As women who cover different aspects of the creative industries, they each taught us something important about mixing the personal with the professional. These three were just some of the gems we gathered during season one in 202o – thank you again for everyone who took a chance on us and shared their stories.Keeping this all together are their answers to the question ‘What would you change or add to make the music and creative industries better for families'? Recorded under the veil of COVID in bedrooms, front rooms and playrooms, there is of course the odd baby crying and mother death stare shot – so don't mind the audio moving around a bit at times. As always – content is key! Thanks again for listening, and if you want to hear the full eps, and more, go to our menu or search through on your pod provider. And don't forget to support these and other artists as well too.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It was as a pre-teen, in Junior High School that Kate Duncan was introduced to woodworking. Little did she know, that first shop class would be the beginning of an entire career in furniture making and design. Since her days in Jr. High, Duncan has dedicated the last twenty some years to honing her craft and developing her aesthetic and nowadays, Duncan produces bespoke heirloom-quality furniture out of her Toronto studio. Not content to just focus on her own practice, in 2014 Duncan founded Address Design Show, an inclusive annual exhibit that promotes both well-established and up-and-coming creatives. Heading into its 8th consecutive year, this widely recognized exhibit has featured hundreds of designers, makers and artists from all across North America. You can find and follow along with Kate on Instagram and her Website.
Charlie Hale is an English-born journalist based in Sydney, where she writes about a plethora of things women care about - from pasta to politics and everything in between. She is currently the Deputy Editor of WellBeing, WILD, and EatWell magazines. So you can imagine her plate is rather full. For this discussion, we jumped headfirst into WILD - the reasonably new print mag published by Universal Media Co, and little sister to Wellbeing magazine. The stunning little mag is born out of Byron Bay where editor Kate Duncan resides and you can feel it in the pages. it's brought to life for the curious – the belief shakers, paradigm shifters and paradise creators. The mag covers those topics that are swirling around friendship circles, at book clubs, at the pub, and around slow-cooked feasts of sustainably farmed produce. Charlie shares a peek behind the scenes of pulling this beautiful magazine together, the planning, strategy, and coordination along with some of her tips for working around your flow. Woodworker and furniture designer Kate Duncan grew up feeling like a square peg in a family of pragmatic accountants. She indulged in sewing lessons and endured charm school until she found woodshop class and fit right in. After years as a shop teacher, a motorcycle accident catalyzed the launch of her namesake brand. Shortly thereafter she also founded Address, an annual exhibit of designer / makers in her hometown of Vancouver, which dovetails nicely with another one of her talents: throwing a good party. Youth in the Australian Music Scene Produced by Rebecca Maakasa and Bridget Bourke In this episode, we break down barriers preventing young people from participating in the live music scene. Kate Duncan from The Push gives insight into how underage gigs might be revived, and the passionate group of teenagers from New Slang talk about putting on successful music events in Melbourne. We also hear from media producer Josh Martin who grew up in regional Western Australia and compares his experiences of going to gigs in WA to the Melbourne music scene. Joe Toohey, the CEO of Creative Arts Victoria, describes how his lifelong love of the arts was stirred by going to an all-ages concert as a teenager. It is our hope that this episode prompts the music industry to continue to work towards being inclusive of young people so they can enjoy the live music experience.
