As the US-Iran ceasefire teeters on the brink of collapse following the US introduction of Project Freedom , residents in Middle East states are now wondering if a full-scale resumption of hostilities is inevitable and if so, what form it will take. KAN's Mark Weiss spoke with Marc Zell, Chair of Republicans Overseas, Israel, about the attempt to end the Iranian blockade in the Strait of Hormuz and President Trump’s strategy moving forward. I'm inclined to think that at some stage and in some way we will be helping the US to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. It's been revealed by American media that Trump has told US embassies around the world to pressure governments to help. Australia is considering assistance and so are we. It's early days at the moment. It appears both we and Australia are simply asking for more information at this point, probably along the lines of what help is actually required and under what circumstances. Those circumstances are important because I would imagine New Zealand would not want to agree to help if there were a hot war underway — meaning shots being fired. I'd expect we would only be willing to help if there were an active and sustained ceasefire in place. That said, I think that in the end we will still say yes because we've already indicated this is what we plan to do. We've already signed a joint statement with countries including the UK, France, Germany and Japan, saying we are ready to provide appropriate help to reopen the strait. Now, I don't think this is going to be popular when the time comes. I don't think it will be popular in this country. There are now multiple polls and surveys showing consistently that Kiwis want nothing to do with a war started by the US. However, I think we can — and should — separate the war from the oil. Helping in the war is one thing but helping to reopen and keep the strait open is also helping ourselves because we need that oil to flow. We need diesel to keep food on our supermarket shelves. Of course, we do have another option: we could simply leave it to other countries to do the hard work for us. But that would be a bad call because if there's one thing we know about Donald Trump, it's that he is transactional — and if we don't help, he will remember. So I would say that now the request has come in, it's only a matter of time. And if the strait stays closed, I'd almost guarantee New Zealand will be heading there. Review all the weekend action with Ben Sully (@SullyBen) and Román de Arquer (@Aeroslavee) as the title fight almost comes to a close, while the relegation battle is still wide open. With Barça's win over Getafe and Madrid's draw to Betis, the gap has increased to 11 points, meaning culers could celebrate LaLiga next weekend if Madrid don't defeat Espanyol. Otherwise, the title could be decided in 'El Clásico'...Title race aside, Sevilla experienced a heart-shattering defeat to Osasuna, conceding in the 99th minute of the match and consolidating their position in the relegation zone. A Levante win on Monday could see them drop down to 19th, dragging them even closer to Segunda. More relegation drama in Oviedo, after losing to an Elche who hadn't managed a single away win this season, until now. The numbers still say Oviedo have a shot at salvation, but it would require pulling off too many miracles. 2004 was an important Presidential election year following all of the political storylines that took place on the prior year's tour. Sprouting from multiple artists' displeasure with the Iraq War and other important issues that Americans faced, the Vote For Change tour was created and ran through early October leading up to the election. It featured headlining acts such Bruce Springsteen, R.E.M., Dave Matthews Band, The Chicks and more alongside Pearl Jam. Every location played was a city in a key swing state such as Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Florida, North Carolina and Missouri. Prior to those shows, the band played two warm up shows in Boston to prepare them for the run. This night in Boston that we'll cover in this episode features a handful of songs that you would never see come anywhere near a Pearl Jam show nowadays. Shows in 2004 included a lot of cover songs from the political spectrum that addressed the climate of the country at that point in time, songs like American In Me by Avengers, Lion's Share from The Germs and X's classic The New World. This show also features two songs from the early 90's returning to the stage for the first time in ten years - Alone and a cover of The Beatles I've Got A Feeling. Our discussions in this episode will stem from what was happening in America that time and why it was important for them to do this tour, how the death of Johnny Ramone shortly before this tour effected the band and the awkward setlist structure that may have some elements that the band can implement today. We'll also discuss our successful EB fundraiser and the Matter Of Time documentary. It's believed it's "only a matter of time" before a serious road traffic accident takes place on one of the main approach roads to a Clare village. Fianna Fáil Councillor Pat O'Gorman is calling for a flooding issue to be addressed at Cappa South in Sixmilebridge. It's claimed the road, which he describes as "one of the busiest" in the Shannon Municipal District, floods every time it rains which forces cars to drive on the wrong side of the road. Councillor O'Gorman says it's an unsustainable situation.
