Maxon is a Singer-Songwriter, and Co-Founder of independent Peninsula record label Sandhill Records. New PODCAST RELEASE - INTERVIEW with Australian Singer / Songwriter (and now resident of Nashville) IMOGEN CLARK! Rob and Matt had a great fun conversation with the greatly talented Imogen Clark. We had a ton of laughs (which is always a good thing). Besides bringing up Springsteen, Colin Hay, Sheena Easton and Sheryl Crow we talk about her big move to Nashville, the inspiration behind her newest video for THE NOISE, the time she played a mining town of only men, writing and recording with Colin Hay (Men at Work) and much much more! ******** JUST A LITTLE BIT ABOUT IMOGEN CLARK: From an early age, Imogen's life was steeped in music. From just eight years old, she was trained as an opera singer, the foundation for her roof-raising vocal power and range. By the age of twelve, she had transitioned to the guitar and piano and the start of her songwriting journey. Raised on a cocktail of Bruce Springsteen and Violent Femmes, her musical palette expanded with influences from contemporary artists like HAIM, Maggie Rogers, and the indomitable Taylor Swift. Her father, a former punk rocker and now retired high school teacher, also played a pivotal role in shaping her musical inclinations. His influence, combined with her own experiences, gave birth to a unique and timeless sound, blending pop-rock and indie-pop. Imogen's determination is evidenced by her achievements of the last three years, especially her two acclaimed EPs, 2020's "The Making of Me" and the AIR-nominated 2021's "Bastards". After recording “Bastards” over Zoom amidst the COVID lockdowns in Sydney, Imogen was determined to flip the script completely for her album. After writing over a hundred songs, she embarked on a musical pilgrimage, traveling to cities that have inspired her musically - London, Nashville, and Los Angeles. This journey took her to some of the world's most iconic recording spaces including Peter Frampton's Studio Phenix in Nashville, Abbey Road in London, and East West in Los Angeles, where the legendary "Pet Sounds" was recorded. The forthcoming album “The Art of Getting Through” is proudly genre-agnostic, encapsulating Imogen's range as a songwriter and recording artist. The lyrics are her most bracingly personal and vulnerable, the music more powerful and anthemic than ever. From navigating her identity to touching on the shadows of an eating disorder, each of Imogen's songs unfold like a chapter in a deeply personal diary, capturing moments, memories, and confessions from her journey. It's no wonder collaborators from Alex Lahey to Colin Hay to Steve Poltz to members of Gang of Youths, Tom Petty's Heartbreakers, Elvis Costello's Imposters, Dawes, My Morning Jacket and more have lined up to collaborate with an artist whose dynamism, relentless creativity and striving to be the most fully evolved version of herself, both in and out of the studio, shows her as a force to be reckoned with, and one who is just getting started. ************ You can find IMOGEN at imgogenclarkmusic.com.au , Facebook and Instagram (@imogenclarkmusic) Be sure to look for her upcoming 3rd studio album "The Art of Getting Through" on May 31st, 2024! ************ KNOW GOOD MUSIC can be found on Podbean (host site), Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Iheart Radio, Pandora and almost anywhere you listen to podcasts. Stu Watts chats with Alex Lahey, who is an LA based multi-instrumentalist, producer, and writer from Melbourne, Australia. Despite studying jazz saxophone at university, Alex hit her stride with her distinctive brand of infectious indie rock as showcased through two successful albums released on Dead Oceans in US/Europe and via her imprint Nicky Boy Records in Australia/NZ, where she's been ARIA Gold certified, has charted in the ARIA Top 20, and has had multiple songs in the Triple J Hottest 100 over the last 5 years. Her third album, 'The Answer Is Always Yes' released in 2023 was critically acclaimed by Pitchfork and The New York Times and has seen Alex tour the album across the US, Australia, Europe and the UK. An engaging collaborator, Alex has become a go-to writer and producer for artists looking to straddle the pop and alternative worlds, providing unique lyrics paired with accessible yet imaginative sonics. Her own songs have become a favorite across the film/tv and advertising landscape, with prominent placements in shows like Grey's Anatomy, Ramy, The Bold Type and Supergirl, video games such as the relaunch of Tony Hawk Pro Skater, advertising campaigns for Lidl, and original composition for film including the theme song “On My Way” for the Oscar-nominated animated film The Mitchells vs. The Machines. On this week's Talkhouse Podcast we've got a pair of artists who got to know each other over the course of the pandemic, and who got together in the same room for this chat—which is still kind of a rarity these days: Sarah Tudzin and Alex Lahey. Sarah Tudzin is best known as the mastermind behind Illuminati Hotties, the band she started as sort of an extension of her production and engineering work, which includes contributions to albums and songs by Boygenius, the Armed, and Eliza McLamb. As Illuminati Hotties, she creates pointed, sometimes funny, always catchy songs that she once described as “tenderpunk,” which is kind of perfect. Check out a little bit of “freequent letdown” from Illuminati Hotties' 2020 release Free I.H., an album/mixtape that comes with an interesting backstory you can find online. New music is supposedly forthcoming pretty soon, so keep your ears open for that. Alex Lahey was born and raised an ocean away from Tudzin, in Australia, but she's been spending a lot more time in Los Angeles recently, as you'll hear in this chat. Lahey has been releasing great records since 2016, and her latest set of punky, animated break-up anthems, called The Answer Is Always Yes, is actually being re-released in an expanded edition with some bonus tracks next week. Check out the ultra-catchy “On the Way Down” right here. These two chat about the philosophy behind Lahey's album title, The Answer is Always Yes, as well as thinking about whether a creative career beyond music makes sense. They talk about the relatively unpopularity of guitar music at the moment, and speculate whether either of their songs might someday get crazy big. (For the record, I don't think it's much of a stretch at all.) Enjoy. Thanks for listening to the Talkhouse Podcast, and thanks to Alex Lahey and Sarah Tudzin for chatting. If you liked what you heard, please follow Talkhouse on your favorite podcasting platform, and check out all of the goodness at Talkhouse.com. This episode was produced by Myron Kaplan, and the Talkhouse theme is composed and performed by the Range. See you next time!
Australian singer-songwriter Alex Lahey has taken a major leap forward with her third album, bringing a more sonically expansive approach to her smart, catchy power pop. We discuss "The Answer is Always Yes" in episode #196 of "For the Record."

Sleep: it's one of the only things you do every day that regularly has the word "beauty" attached to the front of it. Probably worth getting better at it, then. This week's guest, musician Alex Lahey, enters the saloon with a silver bullet that's affordable, attainable and will supposedly make oyu more beautiful: memory foam pillows. Will it find its mark in Hobba & Hing?
AI seems to be on everybody's mind, but what is AI really? Mike's got some new drops brewing thanks to his recent It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia binge. Govier thinks he fixed and improved Steve's audio. Was he right or is he an idiot? We leave it to you to determine if you hear a difference in his audio this week. There was a Specialist who acted as a drill sergeant who filled Steve and all the guys he served next to with a bunch of false inspiration. Nobody seems to remember the movie War Games and Joshua. Wanna know what Whopper Streakers are? We also have the story of Steve's first time taking hallucinogens. More trips down memory lane take the fellas to Panama City Beach 2001 where there was a poop covered blanket and gibberish talk from blacked out neurons. Have you ever played full functioning video game consoles while on a road trip driving? Do you know the difference between the Pontiac Grand Prix and the Grand Am? Luke finally figured out who Dan Le Batard is after hearing a quality interview with one of the writers from The Bear. Have you seen The Bear? Don't miss Steve's latest Werner Herzog impersonation! Govier and Steve rediscover a classic YouTube video to share with Luke featuring the legends of voice overs and the world of movie trailers. It's a doozy! We've got emails! Emailer Joe checks in with some follow-up thoughts related to emailer Dave's epic airline's logistics email from last week. This one's about the mechanics this time. Mr. Pink emails in about AI and which impending disaster will do us in first: climate change or AI? Alex the African Grey Parrot is smarter than all of us. Listen and learn. Whatever we do here, the Always Sunny clip about being blasted in the ass by Republicans or Democrats says it all about the limited options available to most Americans when it comes to government representation. Luke really has a problem with ticking clocks. Govier swallowed a quarter in 2001 while playing quarter bounce. He isn't quite sure where or when it finally came out of him. Jimmy Fallon gets on Steve and Luke's nerves very quickly when it comes to celebrity impressions. The weather is a source of frustration in Michigan for Luke and Govier today, which leads to complaints about how awful Lightning Crashes by Live was and still is. We love you all! We are very pleased with our little world that we have formed together thanks to this show. This talk show has little substance to it without you listening and emailing. We close the show with I Love You Like A Brother by Alex Lahey. If any of our nonsense provokes your thoughts, please share them with us at isitsafepod@gmail.com

Hello and welcome to episode 165 of the ACPG podcast. This week Ben is zooming with another Aussie Alex Lahey. Ben and Alex talk about her new album The Answer is Always Yes, touring, festivals, and building a community. Fresh from recently announcing her new album and debut for Liberation, The Answer is Always Yes, Aussie polymath Alex Lahey today returns with a fresh taster from the record, 'They Wouldn't Let Me In'. A breathless post-punk gem, it's a track that hits at the very heart of The Answer is Always Yes, an album that finds Lahey analysing her otherness through different lenses, from its isolating effect to the surrealism and humour it instills. We hope you enjoy this episode and we'll see you next week for Martin Fry from ABC. Thank you to Alex and Alex for this episode.
Hello and welcome to episode 164 of the ACPG Podcast. This week Ben is zooming as James is holiday(ing). Not sure if that's a real word. Ben is on zoom this week with one of his favourite artists of all time. Chris Difford from the band Squeeze. This podcast has thrown up a few unreal scenarios but thankfully it's still fun and great to meet people that you've listened to for most of your life. Squeeze have been a soundtrack band for me, so it was amazing to talk to Chris about his life in music, songwriting, touring, and so much more. Thank you to Chris for talking to us. See you next week for Alex Lahey.

What do The Killers, Foals, Alex Lahey, Wolf Alice, and Manchester Orchestra have in common? They've all had transformative experiences working with Catherine Marks, a music producer/mixer/engineer from Australia who's become the missing puzzle piece to so many of our favourite acts. Throughout the years, Catherine has built a reputation of being a hard-working collaborator who knows how to think like an artist. On today's bonus podcast, I chat with Catherine about producing our favourite records, along with how she got involved in music, how each situation of working with a band is different, and how most of her bands tend to ask themselves “what would Catherine Marks do?”
Garage punk two piece Teen Mortgage climbed out of Washington DC's primordial hardcore soup in 2017. Drenched in the left - over fuzz and sludge of their local scene, the duo quickly bulldozed their way to a regional reputation after assaulting the publics' ears on incessant east coast tours and opening for notable bands such as Ron Gallo, Surf Curse, Big Business, Alex Lahey, The Chats, Bass Drum of Death, JEFF The Brotherhood, Mike Krol, The Coathangers, Meatbodies etc. In June 2019, Teen Mortgage sicced their ruthless EP "Life/Death" on the world through Brooklyn, NY's King Pizza Records. It has since sold out its limited cassette run and album cuts have earned sync deals with Vans Shoes, Evil Bikes, and Showtime series Shameless. The album also gained recognition as recipients of multiple 2020 Wammies (The Washington Area Music Awards) for Best Punk Band and Best Punk Song for "Falling Down." Teen Mortgage, return post pandemic with “Smoked”, their sophomore release through greasy Brooklyn cassette slingers, King Pizza Records. Once again, the duo are back to smack you over the head with seething surf punk riffs setting the scene to explain this cultural wasteland they call America. One of Australia's most exciting new singer-songwriters talks about the music that defined her generation. Alex Lahey creates beautiful guitar driven indie rock, wrapping power chords and infectious melodies around tales of romantic frustration that are just as compelling on the Splendour in the Grass Main Stage as they blaring out of headphones during a resentful walk in the rain. On the eve of the release of her excellent 'B Grade University' EP, she joins me to talk about The Killers 'Hot Fuss', why she never fell in love with the band, learning to separate what you like from what's good, the cultural cachet of LimeWire, how the OC soundtrack shaped the next decade of music, her biggest influence as an early songwriter and when she wrote the first song she's still proud of.
