Intro from: Scripps National News New issues with prescriptions getting denied https://youtu.be/Q45yk-iFiDc Physicians and Colleges of Pharmacy, who partner with RXVIP Concierge, are able to rapidly test patients for COVID-19 at home using the leading telehealth solution As many states are lifting restrictions and preparing for students to head back to school, the need for easily accessible COVID-19 testing is imperative. RXVIP Concierge’s telehealth solution allows for physicians and Colleges of Pharmacy to easily test their patients, students and faculty without placing additional work on their staff. “Over 70 million school-aged children across the United States will be attending school in August, most of them will be in person, and our schools are not equipped to contain the COVID-19 virus despite all of the safety precautions that will be taken,” warns Ken Sternfeld, RPh and Chief Pharmacist Officer of RXVIP Concierge. “Now more than ever, we have to take initiative to rapidly test and trace our patients, friends, and family because doing so will be the difference between life and death in some cases.” RXVIP Concierge is a leading telehealth solution comprising a network of Pharmacists, PharmDs and Students of Pharmacy who work collaboratively with other healthcare providers to deliver a suite of value-based services. RXVIP Concierge will place a licensed Pharmacist (PharmD) in a physician’s practice virtually to engage with their patients and conduct in-home testing for the COVID-19 virus. “At RXVIP we want to create the safest environment possible for the return to school in the fall. Protecting students, faculty, staff and families is our number one goal. At-home COVID-19 testing with telemedicine instruction provides a hassle-free and personalized approach to getting everyone back to school safely,” said Alana Martin, PharmD Concierge Care Coordinator. By leveraging RXVIP Concierge, physicians relieve their staff of additional work because everything is coordinated by their PharmDs. The practice will also generate an additional revenue stream, RXVIP’s telehealth screening, setup and follow up. “Repetitious COVID-19 PCR Testing is how people will begin to get back to what was once ‘normal,' but this is a huge burden on organizations which are already quite busy,” said Sternfeld, “RXVIP Concierge is here to help physicians and Colleges of Pharmacy to manage the increasing demand for testing by virtually mobilizing trained PharmDs on the front lines of the pandemic to help.” In addition, RXVIP Concierge is leading a huge initiative to partner with Colleges of Pharmacy and empower the faculty, students and alumni to reach out into their communities to test friends and family, which will result in an enormous impact on the testing and tracing of COVID-19. “As future health care providers, RXVIP Concierge’s telehealth is taking the initiative to take care of patents and teach PharmD candidates from all different pharmacy schools to be the best healthcare advocates no matter what the circumstance may be! RXVIP Concierge is implementing in-home COVID testing to rapid test and trace individuals like parents, teachers, professors, students, and many more to bring people back to “normal” and be COVID-free before going back to school. I am more than happy to be a part of the A-Team and get everyone back to their safe learning environments and lives!” said Aisha Abuhanak, PharmD Concierge Care Coordinator. RXVIP Concierge, through their CareONE Concierge Academy, plays an integral role in the education and training of future PharmD candidates as well as any licensed Pharmacists or PharmDs who want to practice at the height of their profession. The company is now mobilizing their network to rapidly expand the testing and tracing of COVID-19. “We make the process very simple,” said Sternfeld. “Our PharmDs contact a physician’s patients, or in the case of colleges of pharmacy their family and friends, to inform them about the COVID testing program and screen them for COVID symptoms.” At that time, the Pharmacist will fill out the online requisition with insurance information and a COVID testing kit (nasopharyngeal) is sent to the patient with clear instructions on its administration. “Our PharmD assists the patient in capturing the sample using Telehealth. Then the patient completes the nasal swab, places it in the enclosed mailing packet and sends it to our lab for testing,” explained Sternfeld. Test results are available on RXVIP’s portal within two days showing positive or negative. If the results are positive, RXVIP will set up an affirmative telehealth call between the patient and their provider (or our medical director) to review the results with the patient and discuss how to proceed. If the results are negative, RXVIP will review the results with the patient and let them know we recommend a repeat test based upon their likelihood of exposure to the virus. An optional telehealth call with the provider (or our medical director) is set up. The patient’s insurance is then billed with no copay to the patient. “We encourage every parent with school-aged children and every teacher or faculty member who will be physically returning to school this fall to get tested and plan to schedule regular COVID tests,” said Sternfeld. “This is the only way we will be able to trace and contain the virus from violently spreading through schools and putting lives at risk.” If you would like to know more about PharmD Concierge Covid Testing and/or would like to see a presentation, please send a request to PharmD@welltrackone.com or call us at (843) 341-9355. Ken Sternfeld, RPh., gives us updates of Coronavirus and Pharmacists doing point of care testing. On April 8, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that pharmacists could order and administer COVID-19 testing tests that have been authorized by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). HHS said in the guidance, “Pharmacists, in partnership with other healthcare providers, are well positioned to aid COVID-19 testing expansion. Pharmacists are trusted healthcare professionals with established relationships with their patients. The vast majority of Americans live close to a retail or independent community-based pharmacy. That proximity reduces travel to testing locations, which is an important mitigation measure. Pharmacists also have strong relationships with medical providers and hospitals to appropriately refer patients when necessary.” The National Alliance of State Pharmacy Associations offered four action items that could be taken to help relieve the strain on the healthcare system and that pharmacists should be utilized because they are trained professionals, easily accessible, and are medication experts. The four recommendations include: Allow pharmacists to test, treat, and immunize for infectious diseases, like COVID-19 and expand immunization authority. Allow pharmacists and pharmacy technicians with valid licenses to cross state lines and utilize telehealth. Allow pharmacists that are providing direct patient care to manage therapeutic substitution of drugs, in coordination with the physician, when there are shortages and have the FDA identify potential drug shortages and work with manufacturers to address the issue. Allow direct reimbursement for services delivered if within scope of practice and if services are delivered by other healthcare providers. NEWS: New York eliminates PBM spread pricing FixRx is a campaign launched jointly by the New York City Pharmacists Society (NYCPS) and the PSSNY in November 2018 to improve the quality of healthcare provided by pharmacists, protect patient choice, save taxpayers money and restore fairness to the distribution of prescription drugs. “This new law is an exciting and important first step in bringing high prescription drug costs down by shedding new light on the business practices of PBMs,” said Elizabeth Lasky, PSSNY executive director. “For too long New Yorkers have seen prescription costs go up while access to medications has gone down. We appreciate the support of our governor and the response from our legislators to issues raised by community pharmacists. While there is still more work to be done, we are pleased to have this foundation on which to build a cost-effective Medicaid program, improve patient access and create a sound future for local pharmacies.” Sponsored by UltiGuard Safe Pack https://www.ulticare.com/ultiguard-safe-pack/podcast

RXVIP Concierge has created a program to guide pharmacists, PharmDs and students of pharmacy on a pathway to become Concierge Pharmacists. Through this program, Concierge Pharmacists can be embedded within a physician’s private practice to deliver a suite of clinical value-based services instead of working in a retail pharmacy setting. There is no out-of-pocket cost to the physician to add this concierge level of care to the practice. Concierge Pharmacists are able to bill for the consultations that they deliver to patients as true health care providers. They spend time with each patient, and provide a range of services including annual wellness assessments, medication review and reconciliation, advanced care planning, fall risk assessments, cognitive impairment screening, pain assessments, smoking cessation, alcohol and substance abuse counseling, mental health assessments, and PGx testing to ensure that all prescribed medications are appropriate for the patient’s specific genetic profile. RXVIP Concierge was founded by Ken Sternfeld, a registered pharmacist who was inspired by both his father, also a pharmacist, and his father-in-law. After helping to care for his father-in-law at the end of life, Ken longed to continue to have meaningful connections with patients. He was inspired to launch “Pharmacy Fridays” in the office of Michael Goodman, MD, a concierge physician practicing in Bellmore. Enthused by the response of patients and the value that he perceived he was able to bring to a medical practice, Sternfeld began to share his vision through weekly podcasts on the Phamacy Podcast Network. His idea began to attract the attention of pharmacists and pharmacy students around the country, as well as physicians and companies working to transform healthcare. Dear Pharmacists: Who’s driving this "so called" innovation in Pharmacy? We talk about advanced technology, more efficient healthcare delivery, transparent payment models, and better wellness results. Our U.S. based healthcare landscape is at an inflection point. PBM Reform is coming & will combine with other trends to accelerate change in the next 2 to 3 years. Two overarching issues are on the minds of healthcare providers: the evolving reimbursement landscape and changes in the healthcare delivery model. The thought leaders in healthcare will help dismantle the status-quo separated methods of patient care and build a solid future of collaborative medicine. Pharmacist's must be part of this change and take action NOW!! Contact Ken Sternfeld - the Concierge Pharmacist ken@rxvipconcierge.com From: by Brian Burgess A new Florida study, released last week, found that major health care companies using pharmacy benefit managers (PBM’s) have positioned themselves to pocket millions of dollars from the state’s Medicaid system that were intended to lower costs for millions of low-income Floridians. The study found that despite processing less than half of one percent of all pharmacy claims, specialty pharmacies affiliated with PBM’s managed to collect 28 percent of the available profit margin from dispensing prescription drugs. The study was commissioned by the Florida Pharmacy Association and American Pharmacy Cooperative Inc. using data obtained from Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) by the Small Business Pharmacies Aligned for Reform. Smaller pharmacy operators say the report proves that larger, vertically integrated companies that use PBM’s are using “predatory” business practices that short-circuit the free market. State lawmakers expressed alarm at the news and underscored the need for greater transparency and oversight when it comes to PBMs’ role in Florida, particularly regarding situations where PBM’s and managed care companies own the pharmacies where they direct patients. “Markets fail when markets get corrupted and that is what has happened here. When the middleman is allowed to own the end-retailer then the middlemen’s incentive to manage cost appropriately for the benefit of the chain is broken,” said State Representative Randy Fine at a press conference to discuss the study. https://thecapitolist.com/study-finds-millions-in-medicaid-unfairly-pocketed-by-pharmacy-benefit-managers/

Geily Ward & Joanne Pauyo interview the nation's first Concierge Pharmacist, Ken Sternfeld, RPh., host of the PGX4RX Podcast. Concierge pharmacists are working directly in physicians' offices to personalize chronic care medication management for patients. In response to the US Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' call for ongoing chronic care management, concierge pharmacy network RXVIP Concierge is targeting this component in its business model and delivering chronic care medication services at the point of care. Concierge pharmacists' services can produce better patient outcomes, lower health care costs, and improve Medicare Star Ratings, according to RXVIP director of new business development Ken Sternfeld, RPh. In this concierge pharmacy model, pharmacists pay a visit to the physician's office 1 day a week and meet with patients to discuss their medications. These pharmacists will review and evaluate drug interactions, dosing, adverse effects, and adherence. Patients will also be encouraged to make lifestyle changes if necessary. The concierge pharmacists will also handle prescription drug refills and look for generic or cost-saving alternatives, including co-pay assistance programs for patients. Additionally, the pharmacists can educate and assist patients with enrolling in Medicare Part D plans. Patients also have around-the-clock access to the pharmacists. “The response to having what amounts to a personal pharmacist available 24/7 has been nothing short of spectacular,” Sternfeld states “It is truly a paradigm shift when you consider the challenges at a retail pharmacy of getting any meaningful one-on-one time with a pharmacist.” More than 90% of patients who were offered the opportunity to see a pharmacist one-on-one at a recent event did so, Sternfeld said. As interest in concierge medicine and personalized care continues to grow, Sternfeld believes patients will appreciate the time pharmacists make to evaluate their medication regimen and help improve outcomes. In terms of lowering health care costs, Sternfield pointed to the large portion of patients who are readmitted to the hospital because of poor medication management. He believes RXVIP concierge pharmacists can make an impact on these patients, as better outcomes can lead to reduced prescription medication costs and hospitalizations. “Cost savings will be measurable in every collaborative practice relationship we develop going forward,” Sternfeld said. He believes RXVIP concierge pharmacists can make an impact on these patients, as better outcomes can lead to reduced prescription medication costs and hospitalizations. “Cost savings will be measurable in every collaborative practice relationship we develop going forward,” Sternfeld said. PGX for Pharmacists host, Ken Sternfeld, RPh., interviews the dynamic crew from Medipreneurs about changing the status-quo of Pharmacy. If you're someone who recognizes that healthcare is changing and even have some creative new ideas to introduce to the world of pharmacy, then we welcome you with open arms. We are three smart, fierce, and pretty quirky pharmacists who chose to get out of the box, become entrepreneurs, and find freedom by starting our own businesses. This allowed us to pursue our passions, and approach health care holistically with the focus where it should be – on the patient. The three of us joined forces to help each other through the journey from traditional pharmacist to business owner and from this we have seen the good, the bad, and the ugly along the way. We spent years working to create business models and systems that work; to understand the marketing strategies necessary for growth; and to grow our highly successful businesses. We made a choice to forge new paths in healthcare, and take back the power to heal that a pharmacist should have. Although we're each following our own unique passion, we are united in our purpose: To give other medical professionals the tools to do things differently and join us as leaders in this new movement in pharmacy. We work and network with many pharmacy entrepreneurs and INTRApreneurs, and we are witnesses to how THESE are the pharmacists who are not only finding true autonomy and are able to provide real patient-centered care, as they should be, but they're also finding greater financial success doing so.
