Pikad järjekorrad patsientidest, kes saavad haiglas voodikoha alles siis, kui keegi eest ära sureb. Ning tõenäoliselt surebki. Just niisugused pildid avanevad Rumeenias, mis „võistleb“ ühes naabermaa Bulgaaria ning Eestiga praegu Euroopa Liidu nakatumisnäitajate esikolmikus. Aga koroonapatsientide suremus on seal Eestist tervelt neli korda kõrgem. Valitsus palub Euroopa Liidult ja naabritelt erakorralist abi. Aga ise pole nakatumiste vältimiseks suudetud ära teha – ütleme siis otse – peaaegu midagi. Rumeenias on vaktsineeritud umbes 30% elanikkonnast ning lagi näib olevat käes. Bulgaarias on vastav näitaja 20% ringis… Eesti suursaadik Rumeenias Ingrid Kressel kirjeldab, et piirangud on samas Eesti omadest märksa karmimad. Nii näiteks lisandub esmaspäevast ka öine liikumiskeeld kõigile, kes on vaktsineerimata. Aga ometi on vaktsineerimisprotsent ikkagi väiksem kui näiteks isegi Venemaal. Mis sest, et vaktsiinid olid vabalt kättesaadavad enne kui Eestis. „Eks see on usu küsimus,“ hindab Kressel. „Kas sa usud, mida valitsus räägib või mitte. Rumeenlased on poliitilise klassi suhtes väga kriitilised. Nad ei usu, et tegeletakse riigi valitsemise, vaid omavaheliste intriigide ja kemplemisega.“ Küll aga pääses viimastel valimistel 9 protsendiga parlamenti erakond, mis seisis vaktsineerimisele vastu. „Lisaks on probleem selles, et ka siinsed arstid ei soovita vaktsineerida,“ toob Kressel üldisest hoiakust näite. Ja ometi on Rumeenia suhtumine veel tõsisem Bulgaaria omast. „Kui võrdlen näiteks maskikandmist Bukarestis või Sofias, siis seal ei peeta seda vajadust peaaegu millekski,“ kirjeldab ta hiljutisi muljeid naaberriigist. Viimases Tre-raadio saates „Räägime asjast“ seadsid isa-poega Helmed nüüd Eesti liitlastest kahtluse alla ka Rumeenia valimiste tulemused. Aga vaat, mis päriselt juhtus. Kui valimiste suurim võitja oli apaatsus – rekordiliselt vähe, vaid 32 protsenti rumeenlastest suvatses valimiskastide juurde tulla – siis suurima üllatajana esines parempopulistlik Rumeenlaste ühtsuse liit (AUR). Ikka väga üksikud uskusid, et vandenõuteooriaid levitav, tugevalt rahvuslik, Moldova ühendamist nõudev erakond võiks üldse parlamenti saada. Tegelikult võtsid nad seal üle kümnendiku kohtadest. Nii et võimalik, et seda Eesti rahandusminister Martin Helme silmas pidaski, kui ütles, et Rumeenias ei läinud „süvariigil“ õnneks. Eesti suursaadik Rumeenias Ingrid Kressel sõnas, et Rumeenia meediasse pole Helmede väljaütlemine jõudud. „Küll aga loomulikult paneb seda tähele Rumeenia saatkond Tallinnas“. Konkreetselt valimiste suurüllatajast rääkides märkis Kressel, et nende tulemus on mõneti selgitatav sama fenomeniga, mis madal osavõtprotsentki – paljud suhtusid viirusesse ettevaatlikult, küll aga tulid välja need, kes viirust ei karda. Samal ajal on pandeemia rõhunud rumeenlasi teistest rängemaltki, sest märtsis kehtestatud piirangud olid naabritega võrreldes karmimad ning suvi tõi leevendusi vaid üürikeseks. Suursaadik tõstab samas esile, et valitsuse kommunikatsioon on olnud võrdlemisi järjekindel ning hea – ja praegu on Eesti oma nakatumisnäitajate poolest Rumeeniast mööda läinud. Konkreetselt on praegu Rumeenias moodustamisel aga n-ö läänemeelne koalitsioon. Ning EKRE lemmik istub parlamendis omaette nurgas – ei taha teised temaga tegemist teha ning kui aus olla, ei taha teisedki. Speculative Fiction author, Matthew Kressel, joins Rajan and Devin to discuss writing, Blade Runner, television and more.  Matthew Kressel is a multiple Nebula Award-nominated writer and World Fantasy Award-nominated editor. His short story "The Last Novelist" is a 2017 Nebula Award finalist, his story “The Meeker and the All-Seeing Eye” was a 2014 Nebula Award nominee for Best Short Story. And his story “The Sounds of Old Earth” was a 2013 Nebula Award nominee for Best Short Story. The story also made the 2013 Locus Recommended Reading List. His short stories have appeared in Lightspeed, Nightmare, Clarkesworld, io9.com, Beneath Ceaseless Skies, Interzone, Electric Velocipede, Apex Magazine, and the anthologies Cyber World, Naked City, After, The People of the Book, The Mammoth Book of Steampunk, and elsewhere. His first novel, King of Shards, was hailed as “Majestic, resonant, reality-twisting madness,” from NPR Books. Kressel is currently writing a near-future Young Adult thriller. Kressel co-hosts the Fantastic Fiction reading series at the famous KGB Bar alongside veteran speculative-fiction editor Ellen Datlow. Dr. Kressel has researched how professional mediators decide what to do when resolving disputes, looking at strategies and practices that lead to mediator success. In this conversation with Dr. Beth Fisher-Yoshida of AC4, he shares knowledge and insights on the role of tacit knowledge in mediator decisionmaking and on different mediator styles. He has also been appointed as Professor of Law, Ethics and the Bible at King’s College London. He is the author of several books, including The “Dignity of Difference.” Seyyed Hossein Nasr is University Professor of Islamic Studies at George Washington University. He’s a prominent philosopher and scholar of Islam who has written many books, including “The Heart of Islam” and “Man and Nature.” Katharine Jefferts Schori is the 26th Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church. She holds a doctorate in oceanography.
