POPULARITY
In this episode, I bring back one of my favorite word witches, Lisa Quigley of The Glitch Witch. I ma so proud to share that Lisa is one of the three 13th Readers for The Magician's Table this year. We discussed: - the TMT phrase “my modality is me,” which came from her 2023 cohort colleague Carly Greis - how Lisa discovered my work from the Moon to Moon episode with Danica Boyce - Lisa's evolution from wanting to be a traditional tarot reader to focusing on the creative process and mystical creativity - the excitement she felt when her 2023 13th Reader Rebecca Padgett mentor, describing her channel as "Galactic," which resonated with her secret obsession - how embracing her mystical curiosity affected her relationship with her husband, and her fear of losing him as she came out with her “weirdness” - how she has learned to appreciate and his and her own skepticism as not a threat to her interests and fascinations - the importance of not denying skepticism and how it can be a healthy response to past experiences - the invitation to not need to believe in something in order to explore it, and how this approach has led to more real experiences - how Lisa stays emergent with her evolving desires ++ About Lisa: I am a conscious contact guide, quantum hypnotist, psychic channel, and intergalactic witch. I'm a is a multi-hyphenate star-being-in-human-form with extensive training in hypnosis, energy work, psychism, channeling, contact work, human design, and more—which have integrated into my psyche to form a bespoke synthesis of mystical gnosis. The Glitch Witch was birthed inside The Magician's Table 2023. Of course, that's both true and not true. As I wrote on the opening page of my TMT journal: “The starting point is ancient, and outside of time. My being here now is inevitable, because I was always going to be here.” I came to the Table in 2023 with a sense of fierce readiness, after a lifetime of devotion to my calling. I have felt an invisible pull on my heart since I was a little girl, talking to Lilac People and chasing butterflies in the sunlight. I say it was a lifetime, and that's true, but that doesn't mean it was ever clear, or that I never had my doubts about it, or that I ever even knew what it was. But my commitment to TMT in 2023 was an energetic message through the circuits of whatever connected me to that calling. I came to the Table to reverberate my clear YES through the timelines: I am here. I am ready. I will not turn away. I'm listening. It was toward the end of the TMT that I heard: The Glitch Witch—and just like that, more of my work revealed itself. Another glimmering thread to grasp in the dark. Another pull on the path of my heart. I call my mercurial and mutable practice Glitch Witchery and I am devoted to helping you remember who you are, and why you came here. Utilizing an intuitive blend of modalities, I collaborate with misfits, weirdos, freaks, and dreamers who are ready to claim their role as Sacred Aberrations in the human collective. To find the gifts you seek look no further than your so-called glitches. All the ways you “don't fit in”—these are your superpower codes. You did not come here to “fit in” to a malfunctioning system. You are here to spread your alternate codes through it like a holy virus—to glitch the system. +++ LEARN ABOUT THE MAGICIAN'S TABLE 2025 HERE! Sometimes people go to astrologers because they want astrology. They don't care who the person is who is reading for them. That's beautiful. AND I have found it to be true that the real medicine that is coming through is not the modality itself, but rather the unique way it moves through the human being channeling it. It's not about "expertise." It's about presence. And emergence. In this way, whatever you call yourself, whatever particular set of modalities you tap into with reverence, whatever it is you're offering - what's really happening is the love that rolls through you in your sincere connection to your channel that you share with another being. This is so beautiful, and such an unlearning. MY MODALITY IS ME is a conversation about this. The conversation begins around 37 minutes. In the intro, I discuss some of the qualities of the astrological energy field right now, namely what's showing up as Mars and now Venus have been conspiring with Pluto, newly in Aquarius. My main topic of exploration is projection, and how projection will implode our relationships from the inside when we refuse to be with them or shame ourselves or someone else for having them. Let me introduce you to my guests in the order they speak in the episode: Lisa Quigley is a visionary writer, quantum hypnotist, psychic channeler, and intergalactic witch. She's a heretical mystic who practices Glitch Witchery, and she is here to support all the other Glitch Witches across the globe who are ready to remember who they are and claim their “glitches” as their most intentional, magnetic power. Alex (he/they) is a psychic energy reader and healer, medical intuitive, and registered nurse living in Brooklyn, NY. His work is centered around optimizing your wellbeing, reconnecting with your sense of self, and helping you reclaim your space and body. He applies a critical lens to wellness, healthcare, and healing, and believes that healing doesn't have to happen in isolation. Carly is a galactic nature mystic with a deep love of all things musical, artful and paradoxical and likes to nerd out on neuroscience. Carly worked as a teacher and taught music for young children prior to becoming a parent to two amazing kids. Following yoga therapy training she became certified as a Mindfulness Meditation teacher and is presently completely enamored with her studies of the Human Design framework. Carly is currently working with children, offering mindfulness support through emotional regulation techniques and somatic practices. Nicole France-Coe (one of the 13th Readers this year) is a devotee to Great Mystery in all Its beauty, pleasure, liminality and dismantling power. I am more at home in the Cracks than the binary and the static. Having been woven together as a queer mixed race mycelial thinker has provided me the blood, bone, root and celestial blueprint for learning how to dance with and at the Cross Roads; a location of fecund possibility, peculiar synergies and emergent orientation. I delight in embodying the archetypal energy of Trickster and color with this energy in my everyday life as a mother, partner, mystic, artist and dreamer. I am both soccer mom and seer and I love being both. Stacia Montenegro. Audaciously Grounded. Sunrise Capricorn. Scorpio Moon. Comfortably at Home in the Deep Emotional Waters of Truth Seeking. Devotee of the HoneyBee, Dragon, Serpent, Venus and Piglet. Thank you all so much. This was profound. I've been wanting to talk about the word Witch for a long time time now. It's a word that is not neutral. This is a word that knows violence. This is a word that knows silencing. This is a word that knows projection. It's a slippery word one that resists description, definition, and even etymology. It belongs to the realm of the unlanguable: to mystery, to intuition, to magic. I wanted to have this conversation in my podcast because it might be safer for folks to get close to it if they don't have to put their name or their money down to engage with it. My desire is to do any small bit of clearing distortion that I can. To help me in my dream for this episode, I invited 6 individuals who I knew would offer words on Witch as unique as they are. Thank you to each, who you hear in this order: ~ Mariola Rosario (she/her): astrologer, artist, teacher, and witch ~ Rebecca Padgett (she/her): artist, mystic, and medium ~ Jonathan Koe (they/he): artist, mystic, and astrologer ~ Samar Jade (they/them): magical academic, seer, writer, and ensoulment doula ~ Lisa Quigley (she/her): alien cyborg glitch witch ~ Matt Bull (he/him): writer, artist, dad, lover I am wildly grateful for your these profound testimonies to the word Witch. What comes together here feels very magical to me, and I hope it does for you too. Let me know if you have any questions, thoughts, confusions, or shares! LEARN ABOUT MOON TO MOON THE CLASS HERE! Okay, so it wasn't really a “girls night out”—but it really did feel like one! In truth, Hailey Piper and Jessica Guess joined Mackenzie Kiera and me on Zoom (I was in my pajamas—I can't speak for the other ladies!) but this is one of the most fun conversations we've ever had on the show. It was a great time, filled with lots of laughs—and some deep reflections. We talked about some of our favorite reads from 2021—and we also wet pretty deep on the connections between the romance and horror genres. It's a fantastic conversation that got me really thinking for long after, and I think you'll really enjoy it. We last spoke to Hailey Piper in episode 54, and Jessica Guess in episode 60. If you want more of their personal and individual stories, feel free to check those conversations out! Also, thank you so much for your patience in waiting for new episodes. This week, we're excited to welcome Mackenzie Kiera to the show to celebrate her latest novella, All You Need is Love and a Strong Electric Current, which is out now through Unnerving as part of their Rewind or Die series! All You Need is Love and a Strong Electric Current is the story of Sadie Snow, a paramedic who has a fetish - she likes it cold. The only person who understood her and loved her was Michael, her ambulance partner and boyfriend. However, their relationship is cut short when Michael is killed. Sadie is devastated until she discovers that she can bring Michael back, again and again. But when it starts getting harder to bring him back, Sadie must make a decision on how far she is willing to go in order to save the person she loves. We remember the first time we became aware of this story, back when Mackenzie read the opening prologue on a live This is Horror event. It's one of the most attention-grabbing lines we've read in a long time and from there, Mackenzie crafts an unforgettable scene with an original voice and a blend of horror and comedy that's threaded throughout the novella. It's the sort of thing you don't easily forget and we instantly knew we had to get our hands on this book! All You Need is Love and a Strong Electric Current features plenty of laugh out loud moments and all the blood a horror fan could ask for, but there are also some heartbreaking moments that really pack a punch. This is a stunning debut that's a blast to read and a must for horror fans. We loved this book and can't wait to read whatever Mackenzie releases next! Also, be sure to check out the Ladies of the Fright podcast that she hosts with Lisa Quigley. They're one of our favorite podcasts and you'll find plenty of writing advice and great interviews throughout the episodes they've posted so far.

Mighty Blue On The Appalachian Trail: The Ultimate Mid-Life Crisis
This week, I've got another diverse array of guests from Trail Days in Damascus a few weeks ago. While I guess a parade of hikers could have been interviewed, I preferred to go with others associated with the Appalachian Trail, so I've managed to get another interesting mix together. Dan Bedore is hiking a kind of alternative AT, keeping the pioneering spirit of the trail alive by spending large amounts of time totally by himself. He said that he preferred it that way. When I checked his website, bedore.org, I was amazed at the variety of trails that he has completed. For those of you wishing to go a little off the beaten track, Dan's site is a good place to start. You can reach out to Dan at danshike@yahoo.com if you'd like to find out more about his journeys. Next, I spoke with the first of the vendors this week. One of the Jacks, of Jacks R Better, demonstrated the Bear Mountain Bridge Hammock, based upon the design of a suspension bridge. It provides a flat sleeping surface. I was a little doubtful, but it was terrific. Had I seen this in 2014, I may have even considered a hammock. You can find out more about the company at the Jacks R Better website and this video demonstrates the setup of the hammock. Eric Fox, the son of Alison and Bob Fox, hiked the AT a couple of years back. Bob wrote Eric's story for him, in a really interesting family collaboration, called The Endless Trail. Check out the book on Amazon. You can also see more about the book at Bob's website and Facebook page. Click on the appropriate link. Here's a picture of the two of us. Kyle Jeffreys introduced me to a very reasonably priced air pad. The company is Klymit, and I highly recommend their website. I tried out the Static V2. At just over $60, it is a bargain and extremely comfortable. The website will give you far more information, as well as some really excellent deals for somebody putting together a bunch of equipment from one supplier. Once again, click on the link that appeals to you. Moe Lemire is a hiker who wanted to give back. Instead of just talking about it, he joined the NY-NJ Trail Conference, responsible for more than 50 miles of the AT in these two states. If you're from that area, or simply want to see the great work that Moe and his team do, check out their website. Eddie Hinnant was showing us The Packa, his very own invention, at Trail Days. He demonstrated his combination pack cover and jacket with the fervor of a man who knows he has done good work. Let Eddie himself show you in this video. If you want to learn more, go to Eddie's website. Lisa Quigley, representing the Virginia Creeper Trail, told us as much as she could in the few minutes we spoke. If you'd like to learn more, you can see their pretty website or even their Facebook page. Finally, Dave Degler was kind enough to talk to me about the work of A Christian Ministry in the National Parks. I was so impressed with Dave and his charming team, three of whom are hiking the trail this year. If you'd like to learn more about the extensive outreach that they do, visit their website. I hope that you enjoyed meeting some of the people at Trail Days. I'm really glad that I went, and I PROMISE, the audio quality of outdoor recordings will improve if I do this again!! Charlotte Taney, a previous guest, was originally unsure about any concerns that she may have had prior to starting the AT. On reflection, however, it turned out that she had a few for this week's Fear and Loathing on the Appalachian Trail. Attie seems right back into it, so we're both looking longer term than we had in previous weeks. I can't tell you how delighted I am. I also know that I posted this picture a few weeks ago, but I wanted a Trail Days picture to go with the podcast on Facebook and this turns out to be it. One last thing. If you've read any of my three books and you HAVEN'T left a review, please do me a big favor and click on the appropriate link below to take you directly to the review page of that book. Thanks so much. My Appalachian Trial I: Three Weddings and a Sabbatical My Appalachian Trial II: Creaking Geezer, Hidden Flagon Hiking the Appalachian Trail is Easy: Especially if You've Never Hiked Before. By the way, remember that this last book is free at my author's website, though I won't be in the least bit offended if you want to pay me $2.99 for it!!
