„Was soll Mobilität sein?

So far, this winter of ours has been pretty wet. Yes, complaining might not help at all, but it pays to do something about the soaked soil. Inundation is a health hazard for plants: constant wetness causes a range of diseases, many of which will be fatal. Drowning roots stuff the oxygen balance, causing severe stress, discoloration of leaves, blisters on stems and leaves, leaf-fall, and die-back of branches. Often the plant, shrub of small tree will become infected by one of the root-rot species. The name Phytophthora comes to mind as it is quite violent in the way it attacks whole rows of plants. Once a tree is infected there is very little you can do to “save its life”. If you are quick to diagnose this root rot fungus, you can try some Plant Health Buxus Blight Buster – follow label instructions and spray the affected trees/shrubs regularly. I reckon that a prevention of stagnant water is the best way to save you a heap of trouble: dig some narrow ditches that will take the water away to lower levels. It pays to have a garden with a decent amount of “fall”, allowing the water to move off the premises. Then there are plants we keep in large outdoor pots. And like our indoor plants, the most common cause of death is overwatering of those plants. Our winter deluges outside can be lethal. Ensure that your large outdoor pots have plenty of drainage holes in the bottom Check that those holes are not clogged – check them every now and then Remove the trays or saucers (which are handy to keep moisture around the roots in summer but not in wet old winter). Our climate disruption is becoming worse every year, and I don't see it turning around any day soon. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Today on the podcast I am joined by Chris Leckey of the Belfast noise rock/punk band, Mob Wife! We'll be covering the band's latest EP, 'RTO', which was released on June 7th. Following the release of their debut album ‘Eat With Your Eyes', expectation was high for album number two. The band retreated to their Belfast practice space and began working up new material. After writing almost 3 albums worth of material the band took stock and decided that a fresh approach to the new material was required. The band were keen to move away from previous structurally complex songs and focus on a more straight forward and groove orientated while maintaining the markers of the Mob Wife sound. This new approach is heard on ‘ROT' with the band working collaboratively through ideas, developing their sound further and expanding on ideas which resulted in the bands most realised work to date.I'll be going through the EP with Chris track by track, breaking down how each song was constructed and recorded, along with focusing on the key themes that the EP explores.Mob Wife on LinktreeHorrenda + Their Last Stop + Fear Gorta live at Sin ESacred Noose + Grave Sermon + Their Last Stop + Lymphoedema live at Sin E Hosted on Acast. “Political history, not natural history, turned a potato failure into a famine.”Between 1845 and 1851, one million people on the island of Ireland died of famine-related causes. Another 1.5 million people emigrated. On Free State today, historian Padraic X Scanlan, author of the outstanding history of the Famine, Rot, joins us to discuss what caused Ireland to suffer as it did.He considers the main characters like Charles Treveleyan and the failure of an ideology that believed in the pure virtue of the market. “The blight was a consequence of a novel pathogen spreading among fields of vulnerable plants,” Scanlan writes. “But the famine—a complex ecological, economic, logistical, and political disaster—was a consequence of colonialism.”Scanlan looks at how Ireland has dealt with the famine and how the potato itself became a symbol for those who blamed the Irish people themselves for the great hunger. This week on Fright Flick FMK, we're diving face-first into the punk-soaked, gore-drenched chaos of Marcus Koch's underground splatterfest Rot (1999). Fueled by necrophilia, rotting flesh, and crust-punk rage, this DIY body horror follows two infected lovers spreading a flesh-eating virus across Florida—while dodging cops, corpses, and total meltdown. Sarah has a surprise and gruesome announcement for Muzzy... she has contracted a deadly virus called the ROT which she got by sexing a dead guy from the local funeral home, and now she has passed it along to Muzzy. Slowly the two of them begin to ROT alive, spreading the insidious, flesh-melting disease to friends and foes and any unfortunate individual that comes in contact with them.
We are honored to welcome the distinguished Dr. Stanley K. Ridgley, author of the recently released book DEI Exposed, as our guest today. Dr. Ridgley is a well-traveled and highly respected educator with a reputation for delivering insight with clarity and impact. In his book, he addresses one of the most widely discussed and contentious topics in our industry today, substantiating his arguments with well-researched factual evidence. Silence implies complicity, so Eric never shies away from tough conversations, especially with those who can back their ideas with proven facts. Join us to hear Dr. Ridgley's clear-sighted and thought-provoking perspective on the truth about DEI. What DEI Has Become The original purpose of DEI, which stands for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, was to ensure fairness, opportunity, and support for disadvantaged groups. However, in practice, it has evolved into something quite different. Rather than fostering genuine inclusion, DEI programs are increasingly excluding Jewish students, tolerating antisemitism, and enforcing a rigid ideological framework that leaves no room for open dialogue. The bureaucracy behind DEI has grown massive, and those running it seldom face accountability, even when harm occurs. Rot at the Core of Academia Some of the most prestigious universities, including Harvard and Columbia, fail to address this issue and even reward bad behavior. Students who harass or physically attack their Jewish peers get promoted, hired by the university, or given recognition, while the victims get overlooked. That reflects a complete collapse in moral standards, with academic freedom and intellectual honesty eroded by fear, favoritism, and ideological loyalty. Talented researchers and students are being pushed away from these institutions in search of places where truth and fairness still matter. The Silence of Feminist and LGBTQ+ Groups Organizations that claim to defend human rights, such as feminist groups and LGBTQ+ advocates, have remained noticeably silent about the rapes of Israeli women and the persecution of LGBTQ+ individuals in Palestinian territories. Yet those groups condemn Israel based on the narrative that it is a settler-colonial state. Their silence is not just disappointing. It reveals a clear double standard based on ideological alignment rather than principle. Is Ideology More Important Than Reality? A growing trend in universities and activist spaces is to prioritize ideology over reality. People follow a script. They repeat terms like settler colonialism or perform symbolic rituals like land acknowledgments without stopping to question their meaning or validity. That mindset discourages critical thinking and turns academic spaces into nothing more than echo chambers. Neutrality is Not Morality When people stay silent in the face of antisemitism and extremism or claim that it is too political to take a stance, they are not being neutral. They are being complicit. Avoiding uncomfortable truths out of fear of losing a job or facing criticism is understandable, but it allows injustice to flourish. Saying nothing is not a virtue. It is a form of surrender that weakens the very foundations of free and fair societies. There is a Better Way If the goal is to help disadvantaged students, there is a straightforward solution. If support is offered based on economic need, many groups that DEI aims to help could benefit, without the need for racial preferences or divisive identity politics. A financial-aid-based approach would be both legal and practical, and far more inclusive. It would also eliminate the need for bloated DEI departments that create more division than unity. Expose the Hypocrisy Loudly Change will only happen when people are willing to speak up and ask the hard questions, like Why are Jewish students being left out of DEI programs? Why are certain groups exempt from criticism even when they commit violence or uphold oppression? Why are academic institutions rewarding behavior that goes against their own stated values? Those questions are uncomfortable but necessary. The time for silence is over. Only through clarity, honesty, and courage will things improve. In 1845, European potato fields from Spain to Scandinavia were attacked by a novel pathogen. But it was only in Ireland, then part of the United Kingdom, that the blight's devastation reached apocalyptic levels, leaving more than a million people dead and forcing millions more to emigrate. In Rot, historian Padraic X. Scanlan offers the definitive account of the Great Famine, showing how Ireland's place in the United Kingdom and the British Empire made it uniquely vulnerable to starvation. Ireland's overreliance on the potato was a desperate adaptation to an unstable and unequal marketplace created by British colonialism. The empire's laissez-faire economic policies saw Ireland exporting livestock and grain even as its people starved. When famine struck, relief efforts were premised on the idea that only free markets and wage labor could save the Irish. Ireland's wretchedness, before and during the Great Famine, was often blamed on Irish backwardness, but in fact, it resulted from the British Empire's embrace of modern capitalism. Uncovering the disaster's roots in Britain's deep imperial faith in markets, commerce, and capitalism, Rot reshapes our understanding of the Great Famine and its tragic legacy. Our guest is: Dr. Padraic X. Scanlan, who is an associate professor at the Centre for Industrial Relations and Human Resources and the Centre for Diaspora & Transnational Studies at the University of Toronto. His writing has appeared in the Washington Post, the Guardian, the Times Literary Supplement, and the New Inquiry. The author of two previous books, he lives in Toronto. Is the tech industry rotting from the inside out? Ed Zitron thinks so. As a PR expert, media critic, and outspoken tech industry commentator, Zitron pulls no punches discussing what he calls the "ROT economy" - where growth at all costs has replaced innovation and customer value. In this brutally honest conversation with Guy Kawasaki, Zitron dissects OpenAI's unsustainable business model, critiques tech billionaires' empty pursuit of wealth at the expense of happiness, and challenges the AI hype cycle. From questioning Blue Origin's all-women space flight to explaining why he refuses clients like Meta and Microsoft, Zitron offers a refreshing counterpoint to Silicon Valley groupthink while advocating for a tech industry that prioritizes workers and customers over shareholder returns.---Guy Kawasaki is on a mission to make you remarkable. His Remarkable People podcast features interviews with remarkable people such as Jane Goodall, Marc Benioff, Woz, Kristi Yamaguchi, and Bob Cialdini. Every episode will make you more remarkable. With his decades of experience in Silicon Valley as a Venture Capitalist and advisor to the top entrepreneurs in the world, Guy's questions come from a place of curiosity and passion for technology, start-ups, entrepreneurship, and marketing. Was suchen wir? Ich sag' es dir! Es ist: der Regenbogen!
