She is an Entrepreneur, Loctician and Daughter of Omar Torres Montalvo who continues to be incarcerated for the last 28 years in federal prison. In this episode of the WE GOT US NOW Podcast, Sylvia describes growing up as an introverted little girl due to the collateral consequences she experienced as a result of her father's incarceration. She highlights the wonderful, encouraging relationship her father has maintained with her throughout the years, despite the prison walls that separated them. Yearning to be reunited with her father in the free world, she describes taking her sons to visit her father for the first time and the injustices they faced. In this solo episode, I talk about the process that I'm going through to become a licensed loctician. It starts with going through natural hair care specialist training. That is to get the required 300 hours needed to sit for the licensing exam. In school, I am going to learn about natural hair care but not as much about locs. I'll be sharing in this episode and in episodes to come the different types of supplemental education that I'm looking into taking or will take in order to help me to become as proficient a loctician as possible.

Today I am so pleased to be talking to a teacher and CEO at the senior society. She began her lock journey as she was tracing her heritage and starting to learn more about her natural hair. And that was around 2002.She had loved seeing locks on other people but had to overcome the stigma that comes along, along with being locked. And she finally committed to going on her long journey in October of 2019. She was loving her journey, but she had restarted in August of 2021 due to some maintenance issues and is currently in the fourth month of her second microloc journey and she is loving it and is inspired, and has inspired others to join her.Connect with Crestina!Instagram: journeetolifeYoutube: TeesJournee

In this episode of You Better Hear Me, I am talking to my loctician, that's right, LOCTICIAN. Jontea Johnson and I have a candid, fun discussion about ethnic hair, mainly black women's hair. The perceptions, emotions and how what you eat, drink and put in your body shows up in you hair. Come listen to this informative chat on hair.
Tonight's episode we spoke with Mellow. She's CEO of Mellow Rootz which offers plant based skincare and haircare products as well as Loctician services. From here the conversation got heavy. Mellow shared her personal story on how she endured and battled with sexual abuse from an early age. This story hit home to many unfortunately as so many people have experienced or seen someone close to them experience some type of sexual abuse, misconduct, or perversion before the age of 10. Mellow spoke about her journey of trying to pretend it didn't happen then about her process of healing. She encouraged others in similar situations to not sweep it under a rug but instead to confront the pain, love your self and cherish those around you who truly have your back.
