Keith Vincent, John Holt, Mary Varn, and Julien Koetsch continue our theme “Parental Influence” with a couple more picks. ___________ Segment 1: Star Trek the Next Generation (television show) Mary discovered the joys of Star Trek with her parent’s influence. This was the return of the franchise in its very successful seven-season run. The Next Generation afforded a great vehicle for Science Fiction storytelling and followed the model of using an “alien/outsider” premise and world to explore common themes of morality and humanity, amongst other philosophical questions. Currently Star Trek the Next Generation is available streaming on Netflix andAmazon. You can also purchase it on DVD or Blu-Ray. _________________ Segment 2: Steve Forbert (singer/songwriter) Keith gained a great deal of musical exposure through his parents, and Steve Forbert is an artist he and his siblings still equate with their parents’ great taste. You find some of his music streaming on Rdio and Spotify, and purchase albums on iTunes, as well as Amazon. ______________________ You can follow us on twitter @newtoyoushow and you can leave comments down below! You can follow Jules on twitter @beautifuljules You can follow John on twitter @lordjoho You can follow Mary on twitter @maryvarn Join us next week as we present picks from Music!
Keith Vincent, John Holt, Mary Varn, are excited to be joined again this week by Julien Koetsch. This week we present a pair of picks that fall under the theme "Parental Influence." ___________ Segment 1: "Book Of Dreams" by The Steve Miller Band (album) John's pick for parental influence is a classic rock record from the late seventies that he found in his parent's vinyl record collection. A blend of the contemporary electronic musical instruments that were becoming popular with the classic rock/jam band sound, this album takes a number of surprising turns. Book of Dreams is available on Amazon and iTunes. _________________ Segment 2: Matthew Barney and the Cremaster Cycle (artist) Jules' influence comes from his father, an artist and university art professor, in the form of the artist Matthew Barney. The Cremaster Cycle is a series of 5 films, produced out of order over the course of about a decade. Barney explores themes of violence and sexuality, biology and structure, using film as a medium to present sculpture and to present film. You can learn more about Barney and the Cremaster Cycle through a number of art sites and art reviews. You can often find the full Cremaster films streaming on sites like Youtube, and sometimes they will be screened in art house and museum theatres. ______________________ You can follow us on twitter @newtoyoushow and you can leave comments down below! Keith Vincent, John Holt, Mary Varn, are excited to be joined again this week by Giaco Furino. Giaco is particularly qualified to discuss our latest topic "Scary," as he is a contributor to FEARnet.com, and an avid fan of the horror genre. We've got two more picks to go over, and they're another "3rd" movie and another short story! ___________ Segment 1: Halloween III : Season of the Witch (film) Giaco's pick for "Scary" is the third in the Halloween film series, produced by John Carpenter. This movie is a departure from the Michael Meyers saga of the first two Halloween movies. Unfortunately the plan to expand the series to be "scary things that happen on Halloween" was never realized. This movie is a great combination of corny and creepy, very fun. Definitely worthy of merchandising, like a Skeleton for ages 4 and up! Actually the above product is from Retroband. Halloween III is available on Amazon and iTunes. _________________ Segment 2: The Most Dangerous Game (short story) Mary's "Scary" pick is a short story from the January 19th, 1924 issue of Collier's Weekly magazine. In this tale Richard Connell penned a story that has inspired dozens of films, books and other tales for the past almost 90 years. You can read this tale for free online most places and you can find it on Amazon if you'd like to pay for it. ______________________ You can follow us on twitter @newtoyoushow and you can leave comments down below! Keith Vincent, John Holt, Mary Varn, are excited to be joined this week and the next by Giaco Furino. Giaco is particularly qualified to discuss our latest topic "Scary," as he is a contributor to FEARnet.com, and an avid fan of the horror genre. ___________ Segment 1: 'The Veldt' or 'The World the Children Made' by Ray Bradbury (short story) John's pick for "Scary" is the Ray Bradbury's sci-fi short story, first published in the Saturday Evening Post in 1950. The story was later collected in "The Illustrated Man." An audiobook version by Leonard Nimoy was released. "The Veldt" is available on Amazon and most major bookstores and libraries. Stephen Colbert reading for PRI can be found online. _________________ Segment 2: Poltergeist III (film) Keith's "Scary" pick is the third in the Poltergeist film family. Marked by the tragic loss of the child actor, this horror movie has drawn rumors of a real-world curse, as some of these films will when coincidence has cast and/or crew from a project dealing with various unfortunate events. You can find Poltergeist III on Amazon streaming and in physical media. It is also available on iTunes. ______________________ You can follow us on twitter @newtoyoushow and you can leave comments down below! Keith Vincent, John Holt, Mary Varn, are joined again by Julien Koetsch to discuss the last two picks from our topic "Fall." ___________ Segment 1: The Trouble With Harry (film) Jules' pick for "Fall" is the Hitchcock dark-comedy shot in New England during the Fall of 1954 and released in 1955. The Trouble With Harry is available on Amazon, and iTunes. _________________ Segment 2: The Comical Tragedy or Tragical Comedy of Mr. Punch (graphic novel) Keith's seasonal pick is the graphic novel written by Neil Gaiman and illustrated by Dave McKean. A moody and twisting narrative with perfectly paired visuals. The Punch and Judy puppets are creepy to begin with, and even darker in this tale. You can find The Comical Tragedy or Tragical Comedy of Mr. Punch on Amazon, and most comic book vendors. You can find Scary Stories on Amazon, ______________________ You can follow us on twitter @newtoyoushow and you can leave comments down below! Keith Vincent, John Holt, Mary Varn, are joined again by Julien Koetsch to discuss a seasonal set of picks in the first part of our series on "Fall." ___________ Segment 1: Election (film) Mary's pick for this Autumn is the late-nineties film "Election." This satirical dark-comedy explores the relationships between different personalities forced to coexist. Election is available on Amazon, and iTunes. _________________ Segment 2: Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (short-story collection) John's seasonal pick is the collection of "GOTCHA" scary tales. This is the first in a series of three book. The original release, a little over 30 years ago, was illuminated by Stephen Gammell's strange atmospheric drawings. You can find Scary Stories on Amazon, ______________________ You can follow us on twitter @newtoyoushow and you can leave comments down below! Join us next week as we continue our look at "Fall" with two more picks.
Keith Vincent, John Holt, Mary Varn, and Adam Moerder discuss the second part in our topic, Non-Fiction. ___________ Segment 1: Pyongyang a Journey in North Korea (graphic novel) Mary brings a graphic novel travelogue to the table as her non-fiction pick. Guy Delisle recounts his excursion to North Korea to oversee an animation production for a French company. Delisle offers a unique perspective and a rare look at an isolated and somewhat alien culture. This graphic novel is available on Amazon. _________________ Segment 2: Gap-Toothed Women (documentary film) John’s Non-Fiction pick the recently deceased Les Blank’s short documentary “Gap-Toothed Women.” Blank may be best known for “Burden of Dream,” his documentary that follows Werner Herzog’s making of Fitzcarraldo. You can find Gap-Toothed Women on DVD through Les Blanks film site. ______________________ You can follow us on twitter @newtoyoushow and you can leave comments down below! Join us next week as we take up a new topic: Autumn/Fall.
Keith Vincent, John Holt, and Mary Varn are happy to welcome Adam Moerder back to the table to discuss the first part in our latest topic, Non-Fiction. ___________ Segment 1: 30 for 30 You Don’t Know Bo (television documentary) Adam returns with a pick from ESPN’s sports documentary series. Specifically the story of Vincent Edward Jackson, more famously known as “Bo.” Bo Jackson was a star of two sports simultaneously, baseball and football, and he was one of the first sports figures to have a brand and a marketing campaign crafted around him. This documentary is available on DVD through Amazon. Digitally you can purchase it on iTunes, or watch it on Netflix. _________________ Segment 2: Rebel Without a Crew by Robert Rodriguez (book) Keith’s Non-Fiction pick is Robert Rodriguez’s diary/autobiography/indie-movie playbook. Rodriguez recounts his move into feature filmmaking and gives a passionate rally for burgeoning indie auteurs. You can find Rebel without a crew in trade paperback through Amazon. ______________________ You can follow us on twitter @newtoyoushow and you can leave comments down below! Join us next week as we continue our theme of Non-Fiction with two more picks. Publish
Keith Vincent, John Holt, and Mary Varn plow forward to wrap up our topic, Guilty Pleasures. ___________ Segment 1: Wheels on Meals (movie 1984) Keith's other guilty pleasure is the Hong Kong kung-fu acrobatics comedy "Wheels on Meals." The stunts, martial arts, and physical comedy skills of Jackie Chan, Samo Hung, and Yuen Baio are wrapped in a perfectly goofy, cheesy shell. Wheels on Meals is available on DVD through Amazon. Unfortunately it is currently between digital availability (legally). _________________ Segment 2: Nana (manga 2000-On Hiatus) John's (@lordjoho) guilty pleasure is the world of Shojo Manga (primarily marketed to young women) and he recommends entering the world through Ai Yazawa's "Nana." The series has run 21 issues so far, but no additional material has been added to the manga series since 2009. Two live action movies and an animated series have been released based on the comic. You can find Nana in trade paperback through Amazon, and you can purchase it digitally through VIZ, the US publisher. ______________________ You can follow us on twitter @newtoyoushow and you can leave comments down below! Join us next week as we welcome back Adam Moerder to tackle our new theme "Non-Fiction"
Keith Vincent, John Holt, and Mary Varn delve into a new topic, Guilty Pleasures. ___________ Segment 1: The Tudors (television show 2007-2010) Mary (@maryvarn) admits to Showtime's The Tudors as her Guilty pleasure. The series aims to show Henry VIII in his virile prime as a the young king. Lots of sex mixed with court intrigue, this is some saucy history. The Tudors are available on Netflix, iTunes, and as well as physically and digitally on Amazon. _________________ Segment 2: Goldie Looking Chain (band from 2000-) Keith's (earthlingkeith.tumblr.com) guilty pleasure is the sorta faux Welsh hip-hop group "Goldie Lookin' Chain." Formed in 2000 they didn't see a record pressed until their first in 2004, which was titled "Greatest Hits." You can listen to GLC on Amazon, Spotify, Rdio, and iTunes. ______________________ You can follow us on twitter @newtoyoushow and you can leave comments down below! Join us next week for two picks that close out our theme "Guilty Pleasures"
Julien "Jules" Koetsch joins Keith Vincent, John Holt, and Mary Varn to discuss the next two picks from our "Better than the Original" theme. ___________ Segment 1: "Blowin' in the Wind" by Sam Cooke (1964) is better than "Blowin' in the Wind" by Bob Dylan (1963) Keith (earthlingkeith.com) contends that Sam Cooke's live rendition of "Blowin' in the Wind," from Sam Cooke at the Copa is better than Bob Dylan's original version off of The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan. The Peter, Paul and Mary version is the most financially successful of the time, and Dylan's is the most well known now. Cooke's Copa was one of his last releases while alive, he died later in the same year, 1964. Sam Cooke's album is also available on iTunes, Rdio, Spotify. As well as in hardcopy. Bob Dylan's album can be found digitally on iTunes, Rdio, Spotify. As well as in hardcopy. _________________ Segment 2: "Risk: Legacy" (2011) is better than "Risk" (1957) John (@lordjoho) proclaims that Risk: Legacy is better than the classic game of Risk. Legacy is built to be customized as you play, the board evolves over roughly 15 games. They encourage you to stick with the same group of up to 5 players. The classic version of Risk has been revised a few times, most notably in adding alternate win conditions and goals. Risk: Legacy has a loose Science Fiction theme, it isn't nearly as heavily themed as the excellent Risk: 2210. Risk: Legacy is available on Amazon, online boardgame retailers, and possibly as your local friendly game store. Risk is available in many versions at your local book, toy, or general store, as well as on Amazon. ______________________ You can follow us on twitter @newtoyoushow and you can leave comments down below! Join us next week for two picks from our new theme "Guilty Pleasures"
Julien "Jules" Koetsch joins Keith Vincent, John Holt, and Mary Varn to discuss the first two picks from our "Better than the Original" theme. ___________ Segment 1: "Hallelujah" by Jeff Buckley (1994) is better than "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen (1984) Mary (@maryvarn) contends that Jeff Buckley's rendition of Hallelujah from the 1994 album "Grace" is better than that of the writer of the song, Leonard Cohen, who released the original version on his "Various Positions" album in 1984. Cohen's album wasn't even released in the US until a year or two later, while Buckley's version is considered one of the 500 greatest songs of all time. Buckley died shortly before the final legs of work began on his second album, so the success of his album and this song are posthumous. Jeff Buckley's album is also available on iTunes, Rdio, Spotify. As well as in hardcopy. Leonard Cohen's album can be found digitally on iTunes, Rdio, Spotify. As well as in hardcopy. _________________ Segment 2: "The Departed" (2006) is better than "Infernal Affairs" (2004) Julien (@beautifuljules) contends that the Martin Scorsese film from 2006, The Departed, is marginally better than the Hong Kong film Infernal Affairs, upon which The Departed is based. The Departed is available on iTunes and on Amazon digitally and in hardcopy. Infernal Affairs is available on iTunes and on Amazon digitally and in hardcopy. ______________________ You can follow us on twitter @newtoyoushow and you can leave comments down below! Join us next week for John and Keith's picks that continue our theme "Better than the Original."
Julien "Jules" Koetsch joins John Holt, and Mary Varn to discuss the next two picks from our "Cult/Fringe" theme. ___________ Segment 1: "Dark Night of the Soul" by Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse, w/David Lynch (2010 album) John (@lordjoho) brings us an album from the late Mark Linkous, AKA Sparklehorse, in collaboration with DangerMouse and featuring David Lynch. The Album had a rocky release, with a series of legal entanglements and the apparent suicide of Sparklehorse, it seemed that the project would stay unofficially released. Thankfully the album found release and you can now find it digitally on iTunes, Rdio, Spotify. As well as in hardcopy. _________________ Segment 2: "Garth Marenghi's Darkplace" (2004 television show) Keith Vincent (earthlingkeith.com) wasn't able to join us for the record, but he did offer us a great pick for the "Cult/Fringe" theme. This British comedy series from 2004 is a fake bad 80's tv show by a fake bad horror novelist, with fake commentary from the fake novelist and the fake producer. Left to Right- Matt Berry, Richard Ayoade, Matt Holness, Alice Lowe. Currently the DVD isn't for sale in a US Region. It aired briefly on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. You can purchase a Region 2 version online, but you can't play that in most DVD players. ______________________ You can follow us on twitter @newtoyoushow and you can leave comments down below! Join us next week for picks from a new theme "Better than the Original."
Julien "Jules" Koetsch joins John Holt, and Mary Varn to discuss two picks that from our new theme of "Cult/Fringe." ___________ Segment 1: R. Crumb (comic artist/illustrator) Jules (@beautifuljules) brings us a the underground comic artist Robert Crumb. Combining his own sexual and racial hangups with his experiments in psychedelics to contrast them with societal norms and hypocrisy, Crumb produces controversial works that have influenced the past 40 plus years of comic artists, illustrators and animators. A professed misogynist who is obsessed with the female form and sex, Crumb folds his dark and deeply personal subject matter in art heavily influenced by the cartoonists and illustrators from the golden age of cartooning. A documentary about Crumb and his family was released in 1994. The director, Terry Zwigoff, was a long-time friend of Crumb. The two met in the 70's and share a love of vintage blues and early rock records and music. The pair played in a band who covered and emulated that style of music. Crumb illustrated the poster for Zwigoff's first film "Louie Bluie" about visual artist Howard "Louie Bluie" Armstrong, member of the last known black string band in America. R. Crumbs works can be found at comic and book stores that carry art books and art comics. You can also find his works online at his site crumbproducts.com, or on Amazon. The Zwigoff documentary "Crumb" can be found in the Criterion release on Blu-Ray and DVD, as well as a digital copy on iTunes and Amazon. You can also watch it online at Crackle. _________________ Segment 2: "Hairspray" by John Waters (1988 film) Mary Varn's (@maryvarn, npccomic.com) "Cult/Fringe" pick is John Waters' first PG-rated film. The film was turned into a broadway musical in the 00's, then the musical was made into a film in 2007. Don't bother with the musical or the remake until you've seen the 1988 original. This was actor Divine's final film role, which makes John Travolta's reprisal all the more insulting. John Waters is a cult filmmaker who tackles sexual themes and the taboo. In Hairspray he uses the musical movie optimism of the 1950's and 60's to explore the racial tensions of segregation. A strange aspect of non-mainstream films like John Waters' is that the female characters are strong individuals- something that highlights the flaws in mainstream filmmaking and storytelling. Currently you can purchase this movie in hardcopy. You can also get it digitally on iTunes and Amazon. ______________________ You can follow us on twitter @newtoyoushow and you can leave comments down below! Join us next week for two more picks from the "Cult/Fringe" theme.
Julien "Jules" Koetsch joins Keith Vincent, John Holt, and Mary Varn again to discuss two more picks that continue our theme of "Recent" (things that have come on the scene within the past two years). ___________ Segment 1: "Daytripper" by Fábio Moon & Gabriel Bá (comic book) John (@lordjoho) brings us a graphic novel that collects ten issues of a finite-run comic series. Collected in late 2011, this is a Vertigo comic, an imprint of DC comics. Vertigo tends to skirt the edge of independent and is decidedly more adult oriented in terms of theme and subject matter. This graphic novel is available in hardcopy and digitally. _________________ Segment 2: Searching for Sugar Man (documentary film) Keith Vincent's (earthlingkeith.com) "Recent" pick is an award winning documentary about a musician from the 60's/70's who didn't have commercial success in the US. He faded into the past, but his music took root in South Africa. Currently you can purchase this movie in hardcopy or digitally. ______________________ Here are the VH1 Classic shorts we talk about in the intro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGt8z68BrZk You can follow us on twitter @newtoyoushow and you can leave comments down below! This week our hosts, Keith Vincent, John Holt, and Mary Varn are joined this week by our good friend Julien "Jules" Koetsch. He's here to help us discuss things that fit our theme of "Recent" (things that have come on the scene within the past two years. ___________ Segment 1: Upstream Color by Shane Carruth (film) In his debut on the New To You Show, Julien Koetsch (@beautifuljules) introduces us to a film from the director of "Primer," another sci-fi indy hit. This movie is viewable on Netflix, and can be purchased directly from the filmmaker. _________________ Segment 2: The Room (video game) Mary Varn's (npccomic.com @maryvarn) "Recent" pick is a puzzle game "The Room." Using touch controls you navigate a number of structural puzzles. You can find this game on Android and various iOS devices. ______________________ You can follow us on twitter @newtoyoushow and you can leave comments down below! We're tackling the second part of our theme "Childhood." ________ Segment 1: "Tomato Butt" from New From Lake Wobegon by Garrison Keiller (radio story) John Holt (@lordjoho) brings a bit of storytelling from the Prairie Home Companion radio show- specifically a story from the "News from Lake Wobegon" series, and even more specifically a story that was included in the Summer cassette of an 1983 collection of stories. You can find this story on iTunes, and on Amazon. It is also possibly available on the Prairie Home Companion archives. ______ Segment 2: The Adventures of Pete & Pete "Time Tunnel" (tv episode) Keith Vincent (earthlingkeith.tumblr.com) offers up a Nickelodeon television show from the 90's. A surrealist sit-com from the dual perspective of two brothers, one on either side of puberty, it is a must see. This year (2013) Pete & Pete is celebrating it's 20th Anniversary. The specific episode we're talking about is "Time Tunnel" from the second season. You can find The Adventures of Pete & Pete on DVD- Season 1, Season 2. _____________________ You can follow us on twitter @newtoyoushow and you can now leave comments down below! Chuck Jones (short animated film) Mary Varn (@maryvarn) has us take a look at what is considered to be one of the greatest cartoons to this date (second only to another cartoon by director Chuck Jones, "What's Opera Doc"). The Golden/Platinum collections are great for their historical commentary. __________ Segment 2: Bad Hair Day by "Weird Al" Yankovic (album) Adam Moerder, or as he's known on the twitter: @lllMOERDERlll brings us an album from his childhood. Weird Al's eighth album "Bad Hair Day." Another week exploring Seminal Works. This week our three hosts, Keith Vincent, John Holt, and Mary Varn are joined again by Adam Moerder. Fair warning, we get a little loopy on this one (maybe it was the heat). ___________ Segment 1: Egon Schiele (Austrian Artist- Deceased) Mary Varn (@maryvarn) has us take a look at an extremely influential painter from the turn-of-century (1900's). Extremely popular and controversial in his time, his work has widespread impact across all forms of visual media. Egon Schiele was a protege of Klimt. He was only 28 years old when he died, having already reached some success. Here are some examples of comic artists and animation influenced by Schiele: Ted McKeever- Peter Chung- You can find galleries of his work and information about Egon Schiele HERE. __________ Segment 2: "Yoshima battles the Pink Robots by The Flaming Lips (album) Keith Vincent (earthlingkeith.com) brings us an album from the turn-of-the-century (2000's). We explore works from various fields that we consider to be seminal. This week our three hosts, Keith Vincent, John Holt, and Mary Varn are joined by Adam Moerder. Segment 1: Magic the Gathering (Card Game) John Holt (@lordjoho) recommends a game that created its own genre of gaming, the "collectible card game." A product of the early 1990's, Magic the Gathering got a toe-hold in a time when traditional board gaming was taking a back seat to console video games. Celebrating 20yrs of being in existence this year (2013), Magic has persisted and is gaining in popularity. You can find out more about this game at wizards.com or at a friendly local game store (if you're in NYC I recommend the Twenty Sided Store). There are versions of the game available on the current consoles, PC, and tablet devices as well. __________ Segment 2: "Emergency" from the collection Jesus' Son by Denis Johnson (short story) Adam Moerder (Mr Dream, @IIIMOERDERIII, www.buzzfeed.com/moerder), our guest host this week, brings a short story from Denis Johnson's Jesus' Son. This collection was adapted into a film starring Billy Crudup, amongst others. You can find Jesus' son on Kindle, Amazon, and other places that carry books-in-print! ______________________ Join us next week for the second part of our "seminal works" topis, where Keith Vincent (earthlingkeith.tumblr.com) and Mary Varn (npccomic.com) will provide two "seminal" segments! Welcome to the second "On-Week" episode of our show! New To You Show is getting rolling, we have a twitter @newtoyoushow where we'll let you know new episodes are up, and pass along any news related to our show. Segment 1: The Stars My Destination (book) - or Tiger, Tiger John Holt (@lordjoho) recommends the 1950's science fiction novel from New York wrtier Alfred Bester. One of the two great novels by Bester from this time period. No movie adaptions as of yet, the audiobook is findable but not in print, but they've made a grapic novel (which is sadly now out of print!) You can find this book on Amazon in Kindle and Trade Paperback format. Segment 2: Central Reservation (album) Mary Varn (npccomic.com) recommends a turn of the century album from a contemporary "folktronic" female singer-songwriter. Beth Orton's Central Reserveration was released in 1999. A British musician, she collaborated with one of the Chemical Brothers on earlier albums, and with Ben Harper and Ben Watts on this album. You can find this album on Amazon, iTunes, Rdio, and Spotify, among others. Segment 3: The Gods Must Be Crazy (film) Keith Vincent (earthlingkeith.tumblr.com) recommends a South African comedic film that saw surprising success worldwide upon its release in the 80's. Written, Directed, and Produced by James Uys, mathmetician teacher turned Justice of the Peace turned film maker, this is a refreshing take on filmmaking coming out of a period of gritty realism. The Movie is available from on DVD and through iTunes.
Welcome to the first episode of our show! New To You strives to present recommendations from at least two perspectives, the perspective of the first-timer, and the perspective of the person recommending it. Each week we'll be presenting one to three new things to experience. We'll be discussing book, films, albums, television, games, places, food, really anything is fair-game. The goal is to find things that at least one of the hosts/guests haven't experienced, let them do so, then bring them on and discuss their take on it. Sometimes it will be something contemporary, sometimes it will be something older, sometimes it will be new to none of the hosts, sometimes it will be new to all the hosts. Segment 1: The Fantastic Adventures of Unico (film) Mary Varn (npccomic.com) recommends Unico. A Japanese animated movie produced by Sanrio in the early 80's, based on the manga by Osamu Tezuka. It made its way to the US in the mid eighties when Disney Channel struck a deal to air it. Currently it is available in its entirety on Youtube, but it may be possible to track down a VHS or a DVD dub from a VHS. Segment 2: The Original Sandy Denny (album) John Holt (@lordjoho) recommends the debut album of a little-known folk singer/songwriter from the late 60's. Sandy Denny's self-titled first album by Saga Records 1966-67, was rereleased under "The Original Sandy Denny" in 1978. You can find this album on iTunes, Rdio, and Spotify, among others. Segment 3: Ender's Game (novel) Keith Vincent (earthlingkeith.tumblr.com)recommends a science fiction novel by Orson Scott Card, soon to be a movie. Published in the mid-eighties and based on a short story from the 70's, it is available from Tor in paperback, and ebook.
