This week, we're doing something a little different on Ron's Amazing Stories. Ron heads back into the archives, dusting off some classic segments from past episodes and bringing them together for a special throwback edition of the show. If you've been listening for a while, you'll recognize a few familiar favorites—but there are also a few surprises waiting along the way. From vintage science fiction readings to classic radio mysteries and a thought-provoking tale from Ray Bradbury, this episode is a fun mix of old and new… with just a bit of tampering. So sit back, relax, and enjoy a journey through the golden age of storytelling—Ron style. In This Episode As Read By - A return to a fan-favorite segment inspired by Librivox, featuring "Gib Takes a Space Test" from a 1957 science fiction collection—where imagination leads the way and the future is anyone's guess. Five Minute Mystery - A classic 1940s mini-mystery, complete with Ron's signature humorous interruptions and a sponsor you probably weren't expecting. Main Feature – X Minus One: "The Veldt" - A chilling adaptation of a Ray Bradbury story about a fully automated nursery where imagination—and technology—may go too far. Story Thoughts - A look at Bradbury's themes of technology, parenting, and whether our modern conveniences are helping us… or quietly taking control. A Moment in Time - A nostalgic radio clip from the past, with insight into why it mattered then—and why it still does today.

When George and Lydia Hadley realize their children's expensive, automated nursery… which projects any mental landscape with vivid reality… has been stuck on a terrifying, lion-filled African veldt, they find their attempt to shut down the machine may lead to a deadly confrontation with the technology that has replaced them as parents. If you have a story you'd like to contribute to the series, you can visit https://submissions.soundconceptmedia.com/You can support the show by becoming a paid subscriber on Substack: https://auditoryanthology.substack.comBy becoming a paid subscriber you can listen to every episode completely ad-free!Curator: Keith Conrad linktr.ee/keithrconradNarrator: Darren Marlar https://darrenmarlar.com/Other shows hosted by Darren:Weird Darkness: https://weirddarkness.com/Paranormality Magazine: https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/paranormalitymagMicro Terrors: Scary Stories for Kids: https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/microterrorsRetro Radio – Old Time Radio In The Dark: https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/retroradioChurch of the Undead: https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/churchoftheundead Hosted on Acast.
Calvin Veldt is a predator caught in a Marquette County, Michigan investigation of Takedown with Chris Hansen. He is notable for offering Chris money in return for him being able to leave. Veldt had been communicating with a decoy posing as a fifteen-year-old girl. After finding out the decoy's age, Veldt said, "I would love to fuck the shit out of you. You sound young. Do you swallow?" Veldt told her that she made him "horny," but warned her that if he were to drive far "it better be really good pussy." Veldt and the decoy had a phone call where Veldt said that he had already driven to her town. He stated that he would pay her money just to talk until he felt comfortable with her, due to the fact that he was worried about going to "fucking jail." He said that once he feels comfortable with her, he'd give her $150 and "have a field day" with her. After making some initial pleasantries with the decoy, Chris emerged to confront Veldt. Imagine a Jetsons-esque home that attempts to meet all of your needs while also featuring a room that makes your imagination into reality. Add some behaviorally troubled children imagining bloodthirsty lions into the mix, and you have the setup for Ray Bradbury's The Veldt. In a dystopian tale that would make an excellent episode of Black Mirror, Bradbury explores the pitfalls of tech that robs humanity of purpose. The guys discuss and analyze the story's plot, characters, and more in this week's rerelease.

Rebel Moon – Part Two Director's Cut: Curse of Forgiveness is the ultimate payoff to our team of rebels coming together. Essentially, it all culminates in one massive battle scene, where each of our heroes gets their due. It is a visual feast of explosions, violence, and destruction. And, quite frankly, it is awesome. In the PG-13 cut, The Scargiver, the majority of the battle scenes were in tact; but what makes the Director's Cut so superior is all the small moments of connective tissue it adds. Our investment in the team, as well as the townspeople of Veldt is much greater with the added context. If you choose to watch one version, then Curse of Forgiveness is the way to go. Now, sit back, annihilate your tastebuds with a Suckerpunch Dill Pickle Sour from Destihl, find her, and fight! 2024's Rebel Moon 2 Kora and surviving warriors prepare to defend Veldt, their new home, alongside its people against the Realm. The warriors face their pasts, revealing their motivations before the Realm's forces arrive to crush the growing rebellion. We end our month of Star Wars adjacent movies with the 2nd of what we now know will be a triolgy, of the Rebel Moon franchize. Its a better film than the first and it does have some stunning visuals and looks amazing but once again we find ourselves not caring about these characters and just waiting for the robot to finally do something. But if you like a good specticle, then this is your franchize. Cheapseat Reviews the podcast that explores the Hollywood film industry for the greater good.

Guests Bill Whiteside is a sales and marketing executive turned software salesman turned lay historian turned narrative nonfiction writer. He is the author of an engaging memoir, Everyone Knows a Salesman Can't Write A Book. To further debunk the myth that he can't write, he's finishing up a much-anticipated book about a little-known incident in Winston Churchill's tenure as Britain's Prime Minister during World War II. After completing an undergraduate degree in history and political science at Simon Fraser University, Paul McNicholls spent a career in insurance claims investigation. After dissecting the trailer, they dive into the main event: the much-anticipated Zack Snyder film, Rebel Moon 2: The Scargiver on Netflix. Directed by Zack Snyder and co-written with Kurt Johnstad and Shay Hatten, this epic space opera is a direct sequel to Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire (2023). The story unfolds on the moon of Veldt, where Kora and her band of warriors venture to aid farmers in defending their home against the Motherworld. As the film progresses, Kora and the surviving warriors return to Veldt, believing they have thwarted Admiral Noble's plans and prevented the impending assault to claim the planet's food supplies. The Veldt - "Aurora Borealis (feat. Elizabeth Fraser)," a 2023 single on 5BC Records Back in August, we shared a different track from soul-gaze siblings The Veldt, a duo formed in 1986 by identical twins Daniel and Danny Chavis. Like that previous Song of the Day, this one comes from their "lost" LP, which was recorded in 1989 with the Cocteau Twins‘ Robin Guthrie as producer, but ended up getting shelved when the band was dropped by their label. The track features guest vocals from Guthrie's bandmate, the iconic Elizabeth Fraser, singing back-up towards the end of the song. In a press statement, Danny Chavis shares, “This song was written in 1986 and was included in the first batch of songs we demoed under the name VELDT. Having heard Treasure by Cocteau Twins, this song was inspired by that very album and RUN DMC's Sucker MCs around the same time that year.” He continues, “This song is about my brother's love for his newborn daughter, written out of high school and dug out around the time the band had started to get noticed. We had written so many, but it was one of the newest pieces that we had begun experimenting. This would signal our departure from being a band that made people dance to a band that made people confused.” As of last week, the album — titled Illuminated 1989 — is finally available on vinyl, CD, cassette, and digitally via Portland-based Little Cloud Records and 5BC Records. It was re-mastered by Guthrie earlier this year. Read the full story at KEXP.orgSupport the show: https://www.kexp.org/donateSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
