Donavon Delisle grew up in a nightmarish household of bizarre christianity and an abusive father who controlled everything. As awful as Donavon's story is, it falls within the "normal" area of christian households for the simple fact that it was patriarchal. Sexual, physical, and emotional abuse may have been factors in the house, but these were all under the umbrella of patriarchal normalcy. If it's acknowledged at all, it's forgiven and even sanctioned. Because the bible says so. That settles it. But Donavon found love and friendship outside of religion and clawed his way out. He is now a podcaster who used to co-host the Excommunication Station and currently hosts the No One Answered podcast focusing on abuse survivors and Jesus Stole Our Movies, which needs no explanation. Send us a textToday I had an awe-inspiring conversation with college student, Adam Delisle. Adam lost his father at the age of sixteen. He also witnessed his mother and family picking up the pieces during his formative years. The financial impact made a lasting impression on Adam. Adam approached me due to the unique nature of my firm. He is very outgoing and had the courage to reach out and ask questions to push himself forward.  Adam aspires to become a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ to help fellow grievers, who have had a similar experience to his own. His charisma, drive to succeed and ultimately help others, will no doubt make himself a success. Adam has also done the heavy lifting to successfully place himself on the other side of grief. Kudos to him for getting the mental help he needed to become a better version of himself. As I like to help those who help themselves, I want to aid Adam in any form or fashion that could place him into a position to help others.  He is open to being contacted and would love the opportunity to entertain an opportunity for an internship.LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/adam-delisle/Email: delislea5@gmail.com #personalfinance #financialLiteracy #money #finance #financialplanning #collegestudentSupport the showDid you know you can now Help Us Continue Making Awesome Content for Listeners Affected by Grief! Thanks for listening! In this episode of the ChinaPower Podcast, we are joined by Dr. I-Chung Lai and Professor Jacques deLisle to unpack China's 2005 Anti-Secession Law and its important implications for cross-Strait relations—the topic of an international conference co-hosted by CSIS and Prospect Foundation in early August 2024. Dr. Lai dissects the legislation's nine articles, particularly Article 8's conditions in which China can employ ‘non-peaceful means' toward Taiwan. Professor deLisle speaks to the implications of the recent “22 Opinions” that China released to strengthen the Anti-Secession Law. The 22 Opinions criminalizes support for Taiwan independence and could be even used against foreign individuals who are not from China or Taiwan. However, Professor deLisle suggests that international recognition and enforcement of these laws would raise human rights concerns. Finally, Dr. Lai and Professor deLisle offer their recommendations on how the United States, Taiwan, and the international community can effectively respond to China's actions.  Dr. I-Chung Lai is the president of Prospect Foundation, a Taiwan-based think tank. Prior to joining the Prospect Foundation, he held several prominent positions within the Democratic Progressive Party, serving as executive director of the DPP Mission to the United States and as the director general of the Department of International Affairs. He has also worked as a special assistant with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Tokyo.  Professor Jacques deLisle is a Stephen A. Cozen professor of law and professor of political science at the University of Pennsylvania. His research and teaching focus on contemporary Chinese law and politics, including legal reform and its relationship to economic reform and political change in China, the international status of Taiwan and cross-Strait relations, China's engagement with the international order, legal and political issues in Hong Kong under Chinese rule, and U.S.-China relations. DeLisle is the director of the Center for the Study of Contemporary China, co-director of the Center for Asian Law, and director of the Asia Program at the Foreign Policy Research Institute.

Do you ever feel like ecological thinking is being misunderstood, or worse, misrepresented? Join me and the insightful Jules Delisle, from the member school for the humanities, as we dismantle these misconceptions and explore the nuanced interplay between humanity and our environment. We tackle the thorny issues of quantifiability versus validity in statistics, deconstruct the myth that ecological consciousness is a regression to primitivism, and celebrate the unrecognized intelligence and adaptability of hunter-gatherer societies. Our conversation takes you through the importance of dynamic ecosystems, the fragility of our technologically driven world, and the vital role of biodiversity in the future of human adaptability. As we navigate the complexities of environmental and cultural identity, we challenge you to consider the profound implications of land claims and societal priorities. We delve into the insights of indigenous perspectives, especially in the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and emphasize the importance of precise language and dynamic cultural recognition in these sensitive discussions. This episode promises a compelling narrative that spotlights the intersection of environmentalism, cultural identity, and human development, pushing you to question how these issues impact the well-being of our most valuable asset – our children. We conclude this powerful exploration by reimagining the structure of our relationships with both technology and each other. Discover the potency of traditional kinship structures, the need for a nuanced approach in legal and philosophical debates, and the global responsibility that accompanies our collective struggle towards a sustainable future. Whether it's reflecting on the ethics of statehood and conflict or the role of reading in understanding our diverse world, this journey with Jules redefines the essence of progress and urges us to invest in the resilience and development of the younger generation. Prepare to be inspired, enlightened, and ready to contribute to the pivotal change our world so desperately needs.Jules Delisle is an organizer of the Mimbre's School, researcher, human ecologist, and nurse.   Support the showCrew:Host: C. Jules Delisle, human behavioral ecologist and nurse, joins us on this fascinating journey through the complex world of anthropology and its implications on modern society. She is an associate and organizer of the Mimbres School.  Together, we dissect the limitations of social and behavioral sciences, questioning common assumptions about modern liberalism and challenging the over-reliance on quantified data in qualitative research. We also delve into the power of arbitrary designations and their critical influence not only in bedside nursing but also in research.Venturing further, we illuminate the significance of understanding people's needs beyond the realms of data-driven research, taking a critical look at language and its impact on kinship. Delving into the intriguing concept of 'weird societies,' we explore how an over-dependence on data from modern, industrialized societies may distort our understanding of humanity. From Amazonian partible paternity to the economic flow issues in Western societies, we unpack how kinship can serve as a source of both social and economic support. We wrap up this enlightening conversation with an analysis of family structures through the lens of Marxist theories, the importance of environmental connection, and the irrational aspects of human relationships. Taking a historical perspective, we discuss the often overlooked aspects of anthropology, such as ritual human sacrifice, modern slavery, and social stratification. Lastly, we encourage a shift in thinking around belief in magic, rationality, personhood, and historical choices. Join us in this thought-provoking episode that challenges conventional wisdom and inspires a deeper understanding of anthropology. Support the showCrew:Host: C.
