In 1992, Andre Comeau and six other strangers moved into a New York City apartment and had their lives taped for the first season of MTV's The Real World. 29 years later, that same cast reunited in the same loft for The Real World Homecoming, which is now streaming on Paramount+. Andre joins Heath to discuss the reunion, the bonds he shares with his fellow cast, and the impact of The Real World on popular culture.
The ladies discuss the OG of reality TV: MTV's the Real World. Call your DARE Officer and prepare yourself for Boston accents, unsolicited ass grabbing, Wreckx-n-Effect, the modern day roman colosseum, the evolution of NYC taxis, the legacy of Pedro Zamora, and, like, is Norman a billionaire now?
B is joined remotely by pop culture writer Evan Real to discuss their mutual quarantine dive into old seasons of MTV's The Real World.

In 1995, at the height of cultural mania around 90210, Melrose Place, and MTV's The Real World, the Internet as we know it today was just getting started. But if you had a connection and thirsted for more beautiful people trapped in a house with drama, there was The Spot. Created by producer Scott Zakarin, it was a first-of-its kind interactive webseries that imagined a cast of young, attractive characters writing journal entries about their lives inside a shared beach house in California. Diaries, pictures, and short video clips kept the audience up to date, and devoted fans (some who assumed it was real) could write in by email to influence the characters and plot. Today, we take this kind of interactive media for granted. The Spot was incredibly innovative for its time, and engaged a rabid fanbase while simultaneously baffling mainstream media. Alli and Jen chat with Zakarin about his inspiration for the show, what kind of plot points create the best drama, and why dogs are always able to write journal entries in his projects. He also shares details of his current obsession, a new podcast called Digital Sky, available on all podcast platforms, and YouTube. This time, it really begins again...FOR REALS!!! Oh, who am I kidding, I've beaten that horse into a fine paste. It's just another outstanding episode of Just One of the Guys. But there is an actual change going on. This begins the major comic debut of writer Judd Winick! Yes, the man who made his career starring on MTV's The Real World is now helming Green Lantern. And how is his debut story? Well there's some good (the introduction of a strong supporting character in Terry Long) and some bad (the introduction of the worst gay stereotpye ever to grace the four color medium, Rawhide Kid's revamp included). But overall it's a good beginning to a new era in Green Lantern Plus we take a look at the second issue of Green Lantern versus Aliens. After Hal had the brilliant idea of putting a horde of xenomorphs on the living planet Mogo, Kyle Rayner is tasked a cleaning up his mess. But he won't have to do it alone, as he's joined by some pretty famous former Lanterns who feel a bit responsible for their actions. It's a great story with some great art by Rick Leonardi. And in addition to all of that, I'm joined by another stellar guest host in the guise of Mr. Thomas Deja (Better in the Dark) to reassure me that Winick won't completely screw up Guy Gardner's character...So, unless you want to have Andre Choi sexually harrass you, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and get to listening!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks!
