Comedian and mother, Negin Farsad, got a strange assignment - one that sent her on an unexpected trip– a trippy trip– a hero's quest– into the depths of her unconscious mind... where it turned out, all the monsters of motherhood were there waiting for her.Four years out from giving birth, Negin hadn't thought she was avoiding a whole lot. In fact as a comedian, she considered it her job to reveal the hardest things about her life on stage every night–to turn them into jokes. She had even turned her harrowing birth into laughs. But little did she know how much was still lurking in the dark unknown. How much there was to discover. How much there was to heal. She told us all about it. This conversation is really special, because Tash and Julia got to talk to Negin together!Check out Negin's comedy. The science increasingly points to a very positive link between (responsibly and professionally administered) psilocybin - or 'magic mushrooms' - and mental health. After reading American-Iranian comedian, writer, and actor Negin Farsad's experience on a Jamaican psychedelic retreat, written for AFAR, I talked to both Negin, and CEO/Head-facilitator of Mycomeditations, Justin Townsend about psychedelics, mental health, and creativity. This is a warm, deep, intriguing insight into the world of fungi and the human experience, which touches upon Jungian depth psychology, the default mode network, and the things that hold us back from our optimal creativity. I'm Bon Vivant, and professional talker, David Cross. I've been talking professionally for well over forty years. I'm good at it. I truly love a conversation that follows no specific linear train of thought but can start about the 2004 Red Sox and minutes later has become an in-depth look at the Iran/Contra hearings (with a detour about the best breakfast tacos in Austin). Whatever, as long as the conversation is funny, edifying, and real. This podcast began as a vehicle for guests to explore the Best/Worst/Funniest/Saddest/Most Beautiful etc. things they'd ever Seen, Touched, Tasted, Smelled, and Heard. Somewhere along the way this became a loose premise, a jumping off point to learn more about my guests, and I let the conversations steer themselves.Catch all new audio and video episodes every Thursday starting December 7.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
