Cory Phillips definitely has something to prove. The now Lawrence, Kansas-based singer/songwriter and his group, the Band of Light, are currently delivering his second studio album, SEXTHIRSTYLOVEHUNGER, released end of May 2021. The entire collection is brimming with summer party gold. It's been over 10 fast years since he released anything larger than a single, and this long-awaited follow up to Phillips' self-titled 2009 debut is meant to make up for lost time. Phillips and his bands have played coast to coast for a decade, amassing fans drawn to his erotic singing and bedroom funk. Yet only the time that Covid-sequestering afforded him allowed for the definitive recording of his decade's better work. The new album is an effort in innovation. In the midst of the health crisis, new freedoms and limitations developed for the musician with a secret life pursuing his PhD in climatology at the University of Kansas. Gigs cancelled, tours off, Phillips converted part of his house into a recording studio and brought in his Lawrence/Kansas City-based ‘Band of Light' along with wizard engineer Robert Rebeck (Tech N9ne) to complete the 14-song hitlist of retro-tinged solid gold.

Born in a small Minnesota town straight out of a David Lynch film, Chad Ferrin spent his formative years on a farm. The brutal winters, social isolation and exposure to violent animal slaughters influenced the predatory and survivalist themes he would later explore cinematically. In 1988, Ferrin sold his home in Minnesota to finance his first film, UNSPEAKABLE. Lloyd Kaufman, president of notorious genre production house Troma Entertainment, took a personal interest and distributed the film. After a multi-year relationship producing, writing and directing for Troma, Ferrin sold his 1968 1/2 Ford Mustang to finance his independent hit, THE GHOULS. Called “Haskell Wexler’s MEDIUM COOL revisited”, hailed by Variety and a winner of numerous international festival awards, THE GHOULS was an underground commercial and critical success. Ferrin immediately followed up with EASTER BUNNY, KILL! KILL!, a film teeming with dark humor and social commentary in the vein of Russ Meyer and Dario Argento. In 2009, SOMEONE’S KNOCKING AT THE DOOR took the festival circuit by storm with tried-and-true psychedelic grind-house style. In 2015 Ferrin was hired to bring the acclaimed graphic novel THE CHAIR to the screen. The success of that collaboration with producer Robert Rhine was followed up on the Fantasia Festival hit PARASITES and the gonzo, horror comedy EXORCISM AT 60,000 FEET. For guitarist and singer-songwriter Jackson Stokes, great musicians make great neighbors. Even as a youth weaned on classic rock- his first concert was Lynyrd Skynyrd- Stokes was unaware that living across the street from his St. Louis home was guitarist and singer-songwriter Devon Allman. Allman’s family tree is impressive as the son of Gregg Allman and nephew of Duane Allman of Allman Brothers Band fame. Yet, Stokes knew little of the legendary group. Encouraged by his father, and holding his guitar, the 11-year-old Stokes knocked on Allman’s door. Allman, two decades his elder, heard something special in the young Stokes and encouraged him to continue learning and growing as a musician. Stokes dutifully attended Allman’s Honeytribe rehearsals, sitting quietly in the corner while the group worked up its repertoire. At 14, Stokes had developed into a prodigious firebrand with a passion for the blues, teaming with another area wunderkind, Marquise Knox, and performing his first professional gigs. By 18, his experience playing in high school garage bands, and with an All-State school jazz band, expanded his rock-and-roll palette. He attended Drury University in Springfield, earning a degree in music therapy, while maintaining a friendship with Allman, who encouraged Stokes to further sharpen his songwriting skill. In Memphis in 2012, Allman produced a five-song EP, Witness, from the Stokes-led band, Delta Sol Revival. DSR toured regionally until 2016 when Stokes and Allman began discussing recording his solo debut. The pair returned to Memphis for the initial sessions, as Allman invited Stokes to join the Devon Allman Band for 2017, and subsequently the Devon Allman Project for a world tour in 2018. On days-off from the road, Stokes continued work on his album, organically building the full-length. In May of 2019, Stokes put the finishing touches on a striking inaugural effort. Produced by Allman, it is a lean and focused set of rock-and-soul, including an ambitious Talking Heads cover, and a depth of original material ranging in style and subjects. From the Memphis stroll of the opening “Can’t Getcha Out,” through the reflective acoustic closer, “Take Me Home,” the debut encompasses Stokes’ wide swath of influences and tastes. There’s the ‘60s R&B update that morphs into modern rock on “Slave,” the staggering punches of overdriven guitar on “Time is Now,” and the midnight seduction of “Contents Under Pressure.” A flourish of pleading guitars finishes the slowly climbing blues-rock centerpiece, “You and Your Partner,” while David Byrne meets Southern funky on “Life in Wartime.” As well, Stokes welcomes the sunny-days slide guitar of The Allman Betts Band’s Johnny Stachela to brighten the Southern sway of “Sins Are Forgiven,” complementing that with the chunky Saturday night blues of “Whiskey.” Naturally, the nine-song record offers plenty of the fiery guitar that has been the calling card of Stokes’ career for this first decade, showcasing the stellar reputation he’s earned sharing the stage with such icons as Robert Cray, The Wailers, and Robert Randolph, as well as Warren Haynes, Lukas Nelson, and Marcus King. Yet, it’s a conspicuous emphasis on Stokes’ escalating songcraft that also shines as brightly on this initial release. Born in Michigan, but raised on the east coast until his mother moved the family to the west coast, Derrick Smith found himself jammed in the middle of the late 90's during the east vs. west beef. Because of his sister, he started playing guitar while recovering from a jaw injury. “She had been gifted one and I thought it looked cool so I asked her if I could play the Am chord and fell in love. "I write most of my songs in G major key which naturally has an Am conveniently one whole step away.” Derrick started to listen to bands for the first time once he became a guitarist in training which opened up a whole new world for him since he listened to only hip hop and R&B throughout high school and college. Deep down, though, he wanted to learn how popular guitar players play the instrument. He soon fell in love with the music of Dev Hynes, especially his live recorded performances, and decided soon after that he wanted to be a musician and started gigging out in his early-mid 20's. Inspired by his love of music, LOVE, the creator GOD and nature, Derrick Smith aka Studded Leather, an artist name he branded himself with, is still on the path of writing his life out in musical stories that show all the sides of his life experience so keep your eyes and ears open for his songs and music that will paint your life with goodness. soundcloud.com/damn-de IG @studdedleathermusic

Galit McCord; LA based singer songwriter A wise man once said, “There are two great days in a person’s life—the day we are born and the day we discover why”. I was born in Israel, served in the Army, and graduated college there with a degree in psychology. Never dreaming then, that in a few short years, I would be living in Berlin producing Hollywood films including one with Tom Cruise, starring Colin Farrell and Selma Hayek, called “Ask The Dust”. I thought I had found the “Why” of my birth. But, as another wise man once said, “Men make plans, and God laughs.” I got married – pregnant – and had children. FOUR! My children became the greatest production of my life, but it wasn't long before I realized that rearing children was a kind of production that didn’t leave time for any other. My early years of motherhood left little time for traveling the world making films. However, to keep my creativity going I continued to indulge myself in my life-long habit of writing poetry. Little could I have guessed that my passion was actually my avocation, on the way to becoming my vocation. In the beginning, I started to convert my poems to a radio songs format, and write many new songs as well as perform them. As a result my songs have become an extension of my creation. As it was when I gave birth to a child, so it came to be when I gave birth to a song. And that is how I discovered the authentic “Why” of my birth – write, perform, and share my creations with the world. Songs that tell stories – and reflect upon the human condition -- in the best of times, and the worst of times -- always offering a light at the end of the tunnel, through self-empowerment. My dream is to break the stereotype of a woman and a mother, that at above a certain age can never make it in the music industry. “If you’re over 30 you’re dead”. The role of your womb may be over for this lifetime but your ability to create is there for the rest of your life. So yes I’m dying to say, “ I did it and so can you”.

His second documentary, Money Machine, got a perfect 10 out of 10 review from Film Threat and is slated for theatrical release in July, 2020. MONEY MACHINE MOVIE Synopsis: Los Angeles CA- In his first acclaimed feature WHAT HAPPENED IN VEGAS, director Ramsey Denison exposed violence, murder and corruption within the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Denison's first documentary became a surprise hit that went to #1 on the iTunes documentary chart in June 2018 and in his searing new film MONEY MACHINE, he shines a light on the cover-up and police corruption around the 1 October Vegas mass shooting that killed 58 people during the Route 91 country music festival near the Mandalay Bay Resort. Featuring an exclusive interview with killer Stephen Paddock’s brother Eric, this riveting new documentary feature exposes information MGM Resorts International and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department would prefer to keep secret about what drove mild mannered millionaire gambler Stephen Paddock to open fire on a crowd of over 20,000 people at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival. MONEY MACHINE also features harrowing, never before seen footage of the deadliest mass shooting in US history and examines what really happened to the millions of dollars raised for victims through the #VegasStrong campaign. Called “heartbreakingly intense” by Film Threat in their perfect 10 review, MONEY MACHINE digs into layers of police corruption and collusion between the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and casino owners. On October 1, 2017, Stephen Paddock opened fire on a crowd of over 20,000 concertgoers from his hotel room at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. In a matter of minutes, Paddock killed 58 people and wounded more than 400. It was the largest mass shooting in the history of the United States. Yet, just a couple of years later, Vegas seems to have forgotten about it completely. Needless to say, mass shootings are not good for business, and it didn’t take long for the Vegas money machine to get to work making this one disappear. In the aftermath of remarketing Las Vegas as a safe destination for tourists, many questionable practices were put into place—one of the most shocking being filing a lawsuit against the victims of this devastating tragedy. On top of that, despite the popular #VegasStrong movement and nationwide fundraising, there’s still a huge question of where all that money went. Texas born & California raised, in Alameda, Patrick Baker aka “The Dark Sea” lives in Los Angeles. Patrick grew up between two musical worlds: his parents record collection from the pop/rock of 60’s and rock/hiphop of the 90’s. Patrick used to bring his guitar with him to high school every day and spent 6 hours a day playing guitar. While studying jazz at SF State and songwriting at The Songwriting School of Los Angeles, he played guitar in bands in the Bay Area before moving to LA to learn music production from Cre8 Academy in Hollywood. He’s spent the last few years songwriting and producing for local artists around town. “The Dark Sea” writes emotionally honest lyrics dealing with his struggles with depression, loneliness, interpersonal relationships, and social issues. The sound has been described as Pavement fronting the Foo Fighters. He borrows the dynamics and a lot of the clean/distorted heaviness from the early-mid 90’s era. “I never intended to be a singer. I was always frustrated with writing songs for others to sing so I decided to learn how to sing a few years back. One of other my goals is to inspire people to play guitar as well.” Patrick grew up listening to some of the best guitar riff music: Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, Guns N’ Roses, and Metallica mostly because he wasn’t sure there’s anything sexier than a great riff. Currently influenced by Red hot Chili Peppers, The Beatles and Smashing Pumpkins, his next project will have a more urban flavor with lots of guitars because he is on a 90’s alt rock kick right now. Recently, he released his 1st release as the Dark Sea “My Brother’s Keeper” and a Leonard Cohen cover and under his producer handle Pbutter, you can take a listen to “You Want It Darker”. Joe Laurean started playing guitar in 1988 one fall afternoon after discovering Guns 'N Roses. He was about 13 then and never looked back at life without having a guitar ever again. Since then, it's been his breakfast, lunch, and dinner. As a teen, Joe would skip most parties to try and make his fingers fret chords and practice, practice, practice. Fast forward to 2002, Joe was home one day in Pasadena in his living room, staring at his two guitars. Bam!! The idea came to him and his head said to swap out those two necks. At the time, he was a small guitar repair enthusiast and so decided to set up a business with a friend and so they worked out of an old mansion on Lake Ave. Back in 2002, Joe had been customizing old guitars, building them from parts to satisfy the guitars he wished he could have when he first started out playing. Joe is a strat guy so that's what he started out mostly customizing, but he built a few single cut LP styles and even a few basses. In 2018, Joe got to take things a little further and joined Guild USA in Oxnard, CA. Joe Laurean is part of building some of the most iconic acoustic guitars now. The Guild USA famed dreadnoughts, our parlor sized M20s, and of course our jumbo acoustics are off the charts. Although the pandemic has slowed them down a bit, Joe knows to always follow his heart and frequently reminds himself to feel blessed to have found so many of the most amazing fellow musicians along his musical journey.
