According to American Humane and its leadership team, the newly released sequel to 2020's award-winning "Escape from Extinction," introduces the science of "rewilding," a proven method for sustainable conservation that has the potential to bring back hundreds of thousands of species from the brink of extinction. Dr. Robin Ganzert, President and CEO of American Humane and the film's Executive Producer, along with Director and producer from MRB Productions, Matthew Brady, discuss the science and optimism behind rewilding projects from all over the world. The examples in "Escape From Extinction Rewilding" suggest the long held promise of modern zoological facilities and the professionals that care for threatened and endangered species to safeguard and return species into the wild in a manner that is beneficial to local communities is real. It's happening with greater success and sense of urgency as more habitats and species face threats from human activities such as climate change, pollution, encroachment, overfishing and so on.

Amy says, “It's remarkable how much cats add to their human family members' lives. Our writers report on how their cats helped them improve their relationships, acted as natural therapists, and showed them how to overcome their challenges as they learned how to be better people through the examples of their cats' loyalty, intuition, resilience, and kindness.” Chicken Soup for the Soul is donating royalties from the book to American Humane. In keeping with Chicken Soup for the Soul's support for pet adoption and shelters, the 101 stories chosen for the book from thousands of submissions are not only inspirational and fun but also feature rescued cats, including black cats, and senior cats, the categories of cats that are often left behind at shelters. Chicken Soup for the Soul's mission is to make people think “shelter first” when considering adding a new pet to their families.

As a way to help others, Topher is donating all proceeds from the book to support rescue and recovery efforts by American Humane. Animal Care Software KONG Zoo Zoo Logic

A graduate from the renowned Colorado State University Veterinary program, Dr. Kwane has been a California practicing vet for 22 years. He has worked in nearly every part of the profession - honing his clinical and business expertise. His journey started in '97 as an associate and emergency clinician in San Diego. From there he climbed the ranks quickly, becoming the Chief Medical Officer of Vetco Hospitals, Inc. Later he would take the reins of a struggling municipal shelter as County Veterinarian and reverse one of the worst euthanasia rates in the country. Most recently, he completed a six year stint as the Chief Veterinary Officer of American Humane, and Director of their legacy program, No Animals Were Harmed®, protecting over 100,000 animals every year around the globe on film and TV sets. Today he serves as the Chief Medical Officer and head Veterinarian for Papaya Pet Care. He has been sought for his expertise by many media outlets and major companies – including Disney, United Airlines and Sea World – for guidance to improve their animal care standards. He is known for his outspoken, compassionate, charismatic and genuine nature. Today, his career has evolved into another new journey. His true calling…helping pets and people in need. Many years ago, during a five-year tenure as a Shelter Veterinarian in a struggling, depressed area of California, Dr. Kwane began to form a true appreciation for those that struggle to afford health care for their pets. One day, on a whim, he headed downtown with some medical supplies. He set up a table near a homeless food bank, and invited anyone with a pet to be examined and treated at no charge. It was the most memorable day of his career. Afterwards, he made more consistent efforts to find Homeless people, wherever they were, and give free medical aid to their pets. Now, years later, his journey is now being chronicled on a new television series, called “The Street Vet”. It follows him as he travels the streets of California helping pets, and people alike, while retrieving some of the most remarkable and inspiring stories of sacrifice and hope. In this wide-ranging conversation with Dr. Stewart, we cover: The origination of Project Street Vet Working with the homeless and their pets Being committed to care The bond between pet and homeless person How working with the homeless changed the trajectory of Kwane's career Happiness within homelessness Hollywood or homeless: pet lovers are the same Funding veterinary care on the streets The role of pet insurance Making contributions - how can you do it? Subscribe to The Locher Room: https://bit.ly/TheLocherRoomEmmy Award-winning actress, author and animal advocate Carolyn Hennesy joined me in The Locher Room to reminisce about her incredible career dazzling audiences with her various daytime, primetime and film roles. On television, she played the deliciously vicious “Penelope Ellis” on ABC's critically acclaimed series Revenge. She also joined the cast for the fifth season of the sleek vampires-meet-world saga, True Blood, and fast became a fan favorite as Rosalyn, the ageless vamp with a Texas twang. Prior to Revenge and True Blood, Hennesy was best known for her memorable work as “Barb” on ABC's Cougar Town and for her (twice) Emmy nominated work as “Diane Miller” on ABC's General Hospital. She has also guest starred on a long list of prime time favorites including Champions, NCIS, The Cool Kids, The Mindy Project, MOM, and Liza on Demand. Kids across America know her as the hilariously haughty Mrs. Chesterfield on Disney Channel's Jessie. On the big screen, Hennesy's credits include Click, Legally Blonde 2, Terminator 3 as well as starring in the horror film, St. Agatha (directed by SAW's Darren Bousman,) the recently released comedy Swing of Things and the soon to be released Relentless for Lifetime…but the biggest recent large screen news is her role in J.J. Abrams Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker as fighter pilot Demine Lithe. Online, she's starred in the independent series' Take it from the Top and These People, Business Doing Pleasure for TBS, Two Sentence Horror Stories for Time/Warner, and The Bay for Amazon Prime in the role of Karen Blackwell...for which she received her Emmy Award and the 2016 Indie Series Award. Most recently, she starred as Gloria in Sean Kanen's series, Studio City for which she received Emmy nominations two consecutive years. Hennesy received her training at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. Her razor sharp comedic timing was honed as a member of The Groundling's Sunday Company and in ACME Theatre's main company. Hennesy has appeared in over a hundred stage productions worldwide, most recently and to great acclaim as Maria Callas in Terrence McNally's Master Class at the Garry Marshall Theatre for which she received the LA Stage Alliance Ovation Award for “Best Actress In A Play” for the entirety of Los Angeles, 2017-18. Among other accolades, the LA Drama Critics Circle has distinguished her with the Natalie Schafer Award and the LA Stage Alliance honored her with her first Ovation for THE FAN MAROO. For the last three years, Hennesy hosted the red carpet reception for the Daytime Emmy Awards for NATAS, FB, and nearly all social media platforms. Hennesy's creative endeavors also include a successful career as a writer; she created the wildly popular “Pandora” (Bloomsbury USA) children's book series and penned the New York Times Bestseller “The Secret Life of Damian Spinelli” (Hyperion). When not on set, Hennesy is privileged to lend her time to a number of causes but she focuses on veteran affairs and particularly animal rescue, preservation, conservation and advocacy as an ambassador for American Humane and her own Los Angeles Zoo. She hosts her advocacy podcast “Animal Magnetism” back episodes of which may be found on YouTube. On January 2nd. 2017, Hennesy crossed something off of her bucket list: she rode on a float (Lucy Pet Foundation) in the Tournament of Roses Parade. Now she simply has to go into space (difficult) and fly over Disneyland as Tinkerbell to set off the fireworks (impossible). She lives in her native Los Angeles with four dogs and one cat, rescues all, and…in what spare time is left…she flies trapeze. Seriously!Original Airdate: 8/18/2021

Robin Ganzert is President and CEO at American Humane, an organization dedicated to ensuring the welfare and safety of animals while strengthening the bond between them and humans. She is a global nonprofit executive and has been featured on CNN, World News Tonight, Fox Business News, and other notable media outlets. Robin is also an author, radio host, and the Executive Producer of the hit television show: Hallmark Channel's American Humane Hero Dog Awards. Her recent book, Mission Metamorphosis: Leadership for a Humane World, is an inspiration guide to increasing business revenue and efficiency while effecting positive change in the world. She is this week's guest on this episode of Love In Action, sponsored by Duck Creek Technologies. American Humane was founded in 1877 and is America's oldest national humane organization. They were behind every major advancement for animals and children from then to modern times, Robin claims. [6:46] Marcel asks Robin to explain the idea behind Mission Metamorphosis and why she wrote it. “We rebuilt this incredible crown jewel in America's humane movement, and I thought that story had to be told,” she responds. “Often, when people start working in a philanthropic organization, they're so in love with the mission that they forget there's a business that is needed behind running the mission. That's when they can lose their way. That story about marrying the mission to a business model was necessary to tell.” [14:59] You can have a great business strategy, but if your organizational culture is one that doesn't support the organization's mission, it will be all for naught, Robin advises. When people aren't inspired to do work that is noble and excellent, they lose their sense of pride, and the culture suffers. [19:46] Robin shares some of the tough decisions she's had to make over the years as leader of American Humane. “When you're a CEO, a leader, you have to have moral courage to make those tough decisions in the toughest times when you're really being tested, and you have to have a [strong] belief in the mission and your own vision,” she adds. [22:30] There were many institutional obstacles in Robin's professional journey by virtue of her gender alone. She talks about the challenges she faced being a woman in the Southern workforce. [26:40] While it's easier to break the glass ceiling in the nonprofit world, it doesn't mean it's a walk in the park. When Robin was hired at American Humane, there was a huge gap between her salary and the salary of the interim CEO. Robin also addresses the lesser-known acts committed against women leaders, including online sexual harassment. [32:05] “I believe that we can all build a more humane world for people, animals, and the world we share,” Robin remarks. “I would like everyone to join that effort.” [38:42]  A special thanks to our sponsor, Duck Creek Technologies for making the episode possible.
