She's been recognised for her ongoing contributions to the revitalisation of te reo Māori and Māori music in Aotearoa. Last night, after many delays, the 2021 Silver Scroll Awards were celebrated in an online ceremony. The Silver Scroll awards are considered the most coveted awards in New Zealand Music, celebrating the art of songwriting. RNZ Music 101 host Charlotte Ryan reports.
Music industry data from Britain and the US show the younger generations are listening to the golden oldies, rather than the modern artists, more and more on streaming sites. Old records from the likes of Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen accounted for 70% of album listening in America last year - and that was at the same time as we got releases from the likes of Adele and Ed Sheeran.And, for the first time since 2008, the consumption of new music fell.
