There's no easy answer to that question — and Vijay Khurana's debut novel, The Passenger Seat, takes a closer look at how complicated it really is. Drawing on aspects of a real string of murders that took place in British Columbia in 2019, the story follows two high school boys as they set off on a road trip that turns violent. It examines male friendships and masculinity with nuance and complexity, asking difficult questions about what we can learn from men who commit violence … and what separates a killer from the rest of us. In this episode of No One Fights Alone, Ben and Brad dive into what it means to really show up for others and ourselves. Through stories of ride-alongs with law enforcement (not as a criminal, we promise!) and firefighters across the country, Ben, as a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), reflects on what he's learned sitting shotgun in squad cars. From awkward intros and suspicion to unexpected connection and trust, this conversation reveals how shared space, when approached with curiosity, can spark understanding, empathy, and even healing. The guys explore why every civilian should experience a ride-along or a 12-step meeting, and how getting outside your own bubble shifts perspective in powerful ways. You'll also hear:The emotional weight of the job that most never seeThe “human behind the badge” that media often missesWhy slowing down to observe is essential for cultural competencyWhat happens when a clinical director rides along—and what officers think he's really there for

In today's episode, we're diving into a big question: "Who's really in the driver's seat of your life?" We talk about the importance of stepping into a place of empowerment and hearing God's voice clearly, instead of just coasting along in the passenger seat. I share some insights on what it means to live by the Spirit and take intentional steps to walk in sync with God, rather than just waiting for life to happen to us. Whether you've been feeling a bit stuck or you're ready to move forward with purpose, this conversation is all about reclaiming your spiritual autonomy and learning how to journey with God in a meaningful, active way. Let's get into it! ✨ LET'S CONNECT: Website: http://havilahcunnington.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/havilahcunnington Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mrshavilah --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/havilah-cunnington/support

In this episode, we dive into the heart of staying connected with God when life starts to feel like you're just going through the motions. I totally get that feeling of knowing all the "right" things but missing that passion, that excitement for faith. Today, we're breaking down the Lord's Prayer, exploring how Jesus intended it to be a roadmap for a personal relationship, not just something to memorize. From calling God "Father" to asking for our daily bread, this prayer shows us how to tune in and listen to God's voice in a way that's fresh and real every day. Plus, I'll share practical ways to let God's voice guide you and breathe life back into your faith. Also be sure to check out the Created To Hear God Journal available now! What was your answer to last episode's question(s)? And better yet, what are you going to do about it, and how? In this episode we discuss the simple yet profound ways that we can change from feeling like we are out of control and a victim to time, to how we can seize the day and seize control of time and use it... not let it use us. From changing the words that we speak and text, to changing the mindset that goes before and/or after those words, we discuss the answers and the methods that can be used to start the change that so many of us desire!THANK YOU to all of the worldwide THNKRS. Jason rides in the left seat of a T.50 and declares it the best sounding engine he's ever heard — dethroning the Lexus LFA. With which he and Derek have experience. === Click here to join the Hagerty Driver's Club: https://bit.ly/Join-HDC-Cammisa-Rev === First of all, Jason calculates his cars' brake fluid age and is mostly okay with it, but also slightly horrified at how old the brake fluid is in several of his cars — one of which is 13 years old. Whoops. Secondly, GMA allowed Jason a ride in the leftmost (passenger) seat of Gordon Murray's T.50, with Dario Franchitti in the center seat. There's video — and audio. And it's enough to have moved Jason to dethrone the LFA, which he had just pronounced the best sounding engine of all time. The LFA's V-10 sounds amazing — far better in the car than the Porsche Carrera GT, the other best-sounding V-10 of all time (with honorable mention given to the BMW S85 — and every other V10 short of the Viper's.) The boys also speak about the LFA Revelations Episode — and the history of the Lexus LFA. And of cars that ride poorly, like the LFA does. Like the Mercedes AMG GT. Learn more about your ad choices. Do you ever feel like life is just passing you by? That you're sitting there watching the world around you move and you're not moving with it? That instead of feeling like you're in the driver's seat controlling the direction and speed of your life, that you're sitting in the passenger seat unable to control anything and you just kinda of exist on the journey rather than controlled it? In this episode we explore this feeling that SO MANY of us have had or are currently having. It's time to stop being the passenger AKA the victim of circumstance… we are not helpless, we need to take back control of our vehicle and get back in the driver's seat - that's what we talk about in this episode!THANK YOU to all of the worldwide THNKRS.
