In this episode of The Hacka Podcast, we sit down with David Jennings — recording artist, worship leader, preacher, and producer — for a deeply honest conversation about calling, worship, obedience, and spiritual formation.David shares his powerful story of growing up in a multicultural military town in Texas, how God used hidden seasons to shape his ministry, and the defining moment when he fully surrendered to God's call. Together, they discuss the danger of chasing platforms instead of process, why authenticity matters more than visibility, and how true worship is formed in prayer rooms long before it's ever heard on a stage. The conversation also dives into David's experience leading worship at North American Youth Congress, the story behind the song “He's in the Room,” and what it really means to keep God first in ministry, family, and everyday life.Extended show notes with links - ------------Chapters00:00 – The Process Before the Platform01:02 – Introducing David Jennings02:50 – Growing Up in Texas Near a Military Base05:06 – A Mother's Faithfulness & the Local Church10:50 – Feeling the Call to Ministry14:00 – The Night God Broke Me22:00 – Advice for Those Called to Ministry28:00 – The Problem With Highlight-Reel Christianity34:50 – Leading Worship at NAYC36:45 – What Worship Leading Really Is45:40 – The Story Behind “He's in the Room”52:40 – Writing Songs From Real Experience56:00 – What Drives My Ministry01:07:50 – Keep God First------------Order Hacka Merch - https://the-hacka-podcast.myspreadshop.com/------------Listen to all episodes:Apple Podcasts - https://apple.co/3PRSYKUSpotify - https://spoti.fi/3zCUsUoFollow us on social:Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/thehackapod/Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/hackaorgTikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@thehackapod#christianpodcast #apostolicpentecostal #churchleader
A Good Samaritan noticed a phone-zoned woman walking directly in front of an oncoming vehicle, he pulled her out of the path of danger, and now he faces charges for sexual assault, because he did not first ask for her consent. Do you ever feel like it is a constant struggle figuring out what to wear to church on Sunday mornings when you are leading worship? Or even just as an attendee in the congregation? In this episode, Mackenzie shares some insight on how Scripture says we are to dress and present ourselves when coming to worship together during the Sunday gathering and in our personal lives. The 'modesty conversation' is typically aimed towards women, but she explains ways men can be sure they are being modest in their dress as well. With a few fashion tips, Mackenzie also shares some relatable, personal stories of past experiences navigating what to wear while leading worship. Hi, I'm Mackenzie. I'm a music artist, worship leader, wife, mom (I wear a lot of hats), and host of the Godly Whistleblower podcast. I seek to shine a light on popular teachings and music in the church today and share what Scripture teaches on how we are to worship in spirit and in truth within the church gathering. My desire is to learn together with my listeners how Christians are to live lives ultimately as a pleasing worship to God. If you enjoyed this episode, I'd appreciate so much if you left me a review! I'm thrilled to welcome a new guest to Guitar Serious Fun today. His name is Jerry Chambers. He's a third-generation worship leader and has a passionate heart for knowing God and worshipping Him with others, as well as helping new churches with all-things worship and tech.He holds a Masters of Church Music degree from Southwestern Seminary, and has served at churches in Oklahoma, Texas, Germany and Washington.Jerry and his wife, Judy, have two daughters and two sons who have huge hearts for serving and living alongside the needy at home and around the world. I met Jerry in 2017 when we were both presenters at the Worship Catalyst Experience at the Northwest Ministry Conference in Redmond, Washington, and I was blessed to be able to sit in on a little bit of what Jerry was sharing with the attendees. We've stayed in touch over the past few years, and in an effort to bring in some more outside wisdom to our listeners here at Guitar Serious Fun, I approached Jerry, and he graciously accepted. Many of our listeners who are pursuing serious fun on the guitar are involved with music at church, and that's definitely something I've been a part of for almost three decades, whether on staff, volunteering, or serving as a guest worship leader. So in an effort to round out the content experience here at Guitar Serious Fun, we're going to have an intentional discussion about those times when we experience disappointment and discouragement, and what to do next.Because this is an interview, you will only find the discussion in the podcast audio. There's no transcript for this episode. But that's ok, because I believe that when you listen to what Jerry has to say, you'll be deeply encouraged. So please stay in touch, and if you haven't subscribed, please do. I also invite you to like this episode, maybe leave us a 5-star review on your preferred podcast platform, and to share any of these episodes with others, so that more people can experience what we are working hard to make available to you.Lastly, if you're a guitarist and you haven't yet found your tribe for ongoing education and inspiration, please check out our one-of-a-kind experience at GuitarSuccess4U.com. Do you feel like you're in a rut spiritually? Do you ever get on stage and lead worship and not even feel God's presence? Are you going through the motions and missing communing with Him? Have things become a routine? The truth is, this happens to most worship leaders at some point in their journey. Standing on stage week after week, we can get into the "mechanics" of the position. Pretty soon we're just executing the plan from muscle memory, and we aren't even personally worshipping God anymore. This was a problem one of our academy members brought forth in our weekly Q&A session, and this was my response. If it helps you, please forward it on to a friend who needs to hear it! The Ferment Podcast - Conversations About Worship And Transformation
In this episode of The Ferment, Adam talks with Kyle Howard about the joys and challenges of leading worship in a large church. Kyle shares about some practical and emotional considerations of leading worship for a diverse congregation, and ways that he works to create opportunities for people at different stages of faith to engage. They also talk through some details relating to administration, worship team gatherings, and coordinating midweek and Sunday teams. Since his early teenage years, it's been obvious to those around Kyle that he would be making a huge impact in the worship culture of his generation. He began leading worship in the youth ministry at Vineyard Church of Urbana at the young age of 14 and continues his leadership today as the lead Worship Pastor and Creative Director. In the last few years, he has been featured on multiple Vineyard Worship albums and is flourishing in his gift of songwriting. Kyle's deepest passion is to see people encounter the loving embrace of the Father and to walk in the fullness of who they were made to be as sons and daughters. Kyle and his beautiful wife Shelby recently had their first son. They are loving life together and share a joint passion for good ice cream. In his free time, Kyle is an avid golfer, a pretty solid basketball player and a professional at buying tennis shoes. (No joke, always look at his shoes.) In this episode of The Ferment, Adam chats with Leah Morrison about being a worship leader and a mother of 3 kids, including how she learned to work within the confines of her real life and some practical tips for pastors working with moms of young children. Leah also shares how motherhood has changed her worship leading. Leah Morrison joined our staff in 2015 after several years as an ordained worship pastor with her previous church. We are a little biased, but we think she's one of the best and brightest worship leaders in the Vineyard movement. Leah spent some of her growing up years in Russia as her family did missionary work with the Vineyard, and after moving back to the US attended Kendall College of Art & Design. Her and her husband are raising 3 awesome kiddos and have a passion for ministry in their neighborhood and a dream of doing work in the middle east. I was joking on Instagram this week how I was coming out of retirement to lead worship at my good friend Larry's celebration of life service. Joking because I needed to find something to laugh about or I would cry and also joking because I was slightly terrified I may have forgotten how to do it. I mean I was leading worship on the same stage at Mack Brock, Chris Brown, Brandon Lake, John Mark McMillain, and so many other incredible worship leaders. But then something surprised me. It surprised me that so many people didn't know that I ever did that. Like that was my main source of income for over a decade! And second, so many people wanted to know why I stopped. As I was going back through my story with a friend I realized that there are a lot of little nuggets that I think many of you that are feeling stuck in a job, or career, or maybe even a past calling, could use… Like I wish I knew someone that risked quitting something they were really good at to find success in something they didn't know they would be good at WHEN I WAS QUITTING WORSHIP LEADING! So todays episode is simply my story of why I quit, and why I think maybe you need to quit something you are good at too!
