P&C drink and review yet another offering from the Pastryarchy -- an Almond Brittle Imperial Stout -- then discuss the Republican Party's "Commitment to America." Newt Gingrich famously engineered a Republican revolution with his Contract with America. Contemporary Republicans are trying to imitate that strategy with their Commitment to America. It's an attempt to put forward a positive message. The boys love the idea but are not impressed with the details. Overall, the commitment expresses nice sentiments, but it doesn't provide enough detail. The Contract with America put forward ten specific pieces of legislation which people could read. The Commitment to America is just a bunch of vague sayings with no details. The Commitment also seems to tread on federalism, promoting to make changes that are not in the federal government's purview. Overall, the boys are not pleased with the effort. It seems too wishy-washy.
DuClaw Brewing The PastryArchy Irish Cream is an Imperial stout by style. This brew will envelop you in an enchanting warm, roasty aroma as you sip on a smooth swirl of creamy vanilla, chocolate, and coffee. This craft beer is 9.4% ABV and 32 IBUs. In this craft beer review, we will take a look at the color, smell, and taste.
The boys drink and review another Pastryarchy offering from DuClaw, Irish Cream Dessert Stout, then wonder whether we're living in a simulation, and whether it matters. From Descartes's skepticism to Nick Bostrom's famous paper, P&C review some of the top arguments for why our world might not be what we think it is. If simulated humans can have first-person experience, we are almost certainly in a simulation. Or are we? There are interesting arguments both ways. Then the boys discuss how the simulation question relates to the God question. Does the possibility that we are in a simulated universe shed any light on God's existence?
Here is my look at The PastryArchy Irish Cream Stout from DuClaw Brewing, a 9.4% ABV Imperial Stout designed to tickle your tastebuds with a feel of vanilla, chocolate, and coffee with, of course, an Irish flair. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/rodjbeerventures/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/rodjbeerventures/support

P&C review the latest DuClaw version of the "Pastryarchy," then discuss woke presuppositionalism. Crowhill explains what "presuppositionalism" means, and then the boys discuss the sorts of things that we all presuppose. Context. Goals. Value. Ethics. We can't even perceive the world without these things. So in some limited sense, the basic concept of "presuppositionalism" is true. How does this apply to the woke? First, there are things the woke all assume, which P&C review. But second, the woke don't seem to believe there's any common ground between the woke and the un-woke. The un-woke shouldn't even be allowed to speak.
Listeners of Prose and Bros, this week we rise against the biggest threat to both women and men of this world. That's right, we're taking down "The Pastryarchy." Duclaw's sweet treat brew divides our hosts as the Bros discuss why Root Beer Floats are either disgusting or amazing, since this version of the Pastryarchy is taking on a decidedly uniquely American form. Paired with this brew we're discussing a classic poem in "A Woman's Labour," by Mary Collier. One of the first poetic oppositions to mansplaining, this poem rolls of the tongue and lifts our rebellious spirits. So join us as we rise up to fight the power, and as always, enjoy!Cheers!
P&C drink and review DuClaw's Root Beer Float Imperial Brown Ale -- part of their Pastryarchy series -- then discuss the right to privacy. What is it, where did it come from, and what are its limits? Recently, Apple has decided it will scan people's phones for kiddie porn. Can they do that? "Well, what do you have to hide?" Is it an admission of guilt to tell people they should mind their own business?

P&C drink and review the latest Pastryarchy offering from DuClaw, then discuss the similarities between Martin Luther and Jordan Peterson. Crowhill is convinced JP is on the edge of a major transformation, and can see similarities between Peterson and Luther -- especially in how they deal with the righteousness of God. Peterson seems unable to deal with the moral weight of God's existence in a healthy way. It crushes him. It terrifies him. As it did Luther. JP will have to solve this. And soon.
P&C review DuClaw's Candy Cane Imperial Stout, one of the latest in their Pastryarchy series. Then they do five quick topics in about five minutes each. #1. The Left controls every institution in America -- education, fashion, most of the news, Hollywood, etc. So if there's "institutional racism" in America, who's to blame? #2. Mexicans celebrate their indigenous populations on holidays and such, but they are not treated well. It's a caste system. #3. A French feminist is promoting the idea that women should erase men entirely from their lives. #4. Pigweed shares his Zen experience with ambient videos and challenges Crowhill to pick on. #5. Is religious revival the only hope for restoring America?
P&C review Pastryarchy #12 -- Belgian Waffle Cone flavored Imperial Brown Ale from Du Claw brewery -- then discuss the connections between environmentalism and religion. The boys recently listened to a Michael Shermer interview of Michael Shellenberger re: his book, Apocalypse Never. Shellenberger is an environmentalist, but of a different stripe. He's not a catastrophist. He also raises the legit question, has environmentalism taken the place of God in modern culture? Religion and environmentalism hold this in common: As a result of man's actions there's judgment coming to us all and we need salvation. But is that from Jesus, or from recylcing?
Pick results and breakdown of both UFC Fight Nights in Jacksonville. A chocolate cherry bon bon imperial stout from Baltimore, Maryland. Car Bombs Galore.
Once again on Skype, the boys review two beers: Pastryarchy and a Scottish Wee heavy, then discuss human nature. Is there a fundamental human nature, or is it totally malleable? This is a key difference between the left and the right. The right takes humanity as a given, and tries to create a structure that accommodates man as he is. The left has a vision for a better society and tries to tweak man to fit in. Conservatives are willing to tolerate equality, so long as it doesn't get in the way of freedom, but liberals are willing to tolerate freedom so long as it doesn't get in the way of equality. You can't ever enforce equality up to the highest-performing person. The only way to have equality is to bring the top down.
Praise be the Drunk Guys this week when they discuss The Testaments by Margaret Atwood, the sequel to The Handmaid's Tale and winner of the 2019 Booker Prize. And praise be the fruits, including: Devil's Harvest by Southern Prohibition, Rapture by Alchemist, The PastryArchy by DuClaw, Veracity by Decadent Ales,
In this episode, we were live from Arlington, Texas and we shared a couple of beers and talked craft beer with our special guest, DJ Sho Nuff of DJ's On The Way in Atlanta Georgia.
Sasquatch lives at 903 Brewers 903 Brewers founder and head brewer Jeremy Roberts is happy to sit down and chat with visitors about the legendary Sasquatch. He's never seen the beast in the wild, but he's keeping an eye out. 903's big milk stout is named after the ape, Sasquatch's base is a sneaky 10% and some of the Reserve variants (like the Double Chocolate Cherry Stout we sampled) hit at a heavy 15% ABV. The box encourages you to "Age it. Drink it. Trade it. Share it." We skipped step one and didn't make it past step two. Roberts admits they haven't quite nailed an IPA that's caught on, but they aren't worried about riding that hype train. They're happy to brew their stouts, a huge variety of cream ales, and many other styles. Their Down with PastryArchy series takes those cream ales and adds crazy additions like strawberry cake and cinnamon rolls. Some fruity versions even get served from a slushie machine to help beat the Texas heat. The brewery is celebrating their 6th anniversary this May and they are in the process of expanding to a new building, an old 3-story schoolhouse in downtown Sherman. The new space will offer a larger tasting room, large ballroom and meeting area, and expanded brewing capacity. We also talk about the restrictive direct sales laws in Texas. Brewpubs, distilleries, and wineries are allowed to sell beer to go, but production brewers aren't. 903 switched to a brewpub model because of the limitations the laws put on his growth. Fortunately, Texas HB762 is up this year looking to change that. If you find yourself in Sherman, TX make sure to stop by 903 Brewers. You're guaranteed to see Sasquatch. Even if you're not in DuClaw Brewing's distribution area, you probably know about Sweet Baby Jesus, their chocolate peanut butter porter. It's DuClaw's flagship beer and it's sought after across the country. DuClaw's head brewer Brandon Stanko joined the brewery as in IT Technician and worked his way up the ranks. He joins us this week to talk about their beers, hop guns, Maryland's weird beer laws, and to share some tips for homebrewers on brewing a chocolate peanut butter beer. Christopher Glenn joined in the studio this week to talk about his non-profit, The Bottle Share. A charity supporting the people working in the craft beer industry in times of need.
