This morning, on The Greg and Dan Show Jenni Davis, from the Peoria Public Library, and Kripa Guha, from Main Street Quest, came in to speak with us about an upcoming scavenger hunt in Peoria. September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month. For the 3rd year, City Link and Peoria Public Libraries have teamed up to give free rides to any member of Peoria Public Libraries by just showing your library card. This year however, there will be a scavenger hunt on September 14th, hosted by Main Street Quest. This hunt will feature a $500 reward to the team of 5 who solve the most clues by 6 pm that night. The scavenger hunt will run the length of the Main Street Corridor from Bradley all the way to the Riverfront, which is bus route number 11. The hope is to familiarize Peoria citizens with the community transportation and Bradley students with the Downtown Peoria area. The hunt begins on Saturday, September 14th with the starting point will be in front of the Wyckoff Building at Bradley University. The event is open to everyone, with sign ups starting at 10 am and running until 4 pm, and the event itself will wrap up at 6 pm. This morning, Greg and Dan gave Jennifer Davis from the Peoria Public Library a call. The Peoria Public Library Main Branch will be hosting a massive Vinyl Record Sale, with over 8,000 albums. The pre-sale starts tomorrow and will feature a variety of vintage vinyl records across a diverse array of artists and genres. The library opens at 9 am but the pre-sale will begin at 10 am tomorrow August 10th. In order to get access to the pre-sale it will require a $25 donation, with records being sold for just $1 a piece sold as is. Roberta Koscielski, deputy director of Peoria Public Library, is Steve Tarter's guest this week on "Tarter Source." Koscielski has worked at the library for 34 years. A University of Illinois grad, she was recently cited by the Library Journal for her work in the Peoria community. Koscielski talks about "The Great American Read," a special PBS program on the nation's favorite 100 books to be shown at the library's North Branch at 6:30 p.m. on May 22.
As part of the Citywide Celebration of Women Artists, the Peoria Public Library is displaying the Balance Crazy Quilt and other works on loan from the Peoria Historical Society. The Peoria Women’s Club is furnished with multiple artifacts and works of art, including several paintings by sisters Nona and Emily White. And the Peoria Riverfront Museum is showing eight newly-acquired works by women artists.
