Birgitte Katerine Boye (1742–1824) was a prolific and accomplished Lutheran poet, hymnwriter, and playwright in her native Denmark. In this episode — part Story Time, part Hymn Sing, part ode to Scandinavian Lutheranism — Sarah shares her story with a world that has largely forgotten her. In and around rabbit trails on Mahler's Second Symphony, single-stanza festival hymns, and the wonderfully named Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock, Sarah examines the life and hymnody of this extraordinary Lutheran lady, with a special focus on the three Boye hymn lyrics that have appeared in recent LCMS hymnals: “Rejoice, Rejoice This Happy Morn” (LSB 391), “He Is Arisen! Glorious Word” (LSB 488), and “Holy Spirit, God of Love” (TLH 230). For further reading, check out the following resources: Birgitte K. Boye | Hymnary.org He Is Arisen! And we're back! Ready to tackle the political intrigue of Andor, as well as the concept of "The Slog".In these chapters Elayne meets the young High Seats of the houses Dyelin has managed to recruit for Elayne's claim to the throne before she gets her reports from her spy-masters-in-all-but-name: Reene Harfour and Halwin Norry!Later she is visited by Monaelle and Sumeko to practice a pregnancy weave and they sense the cleansing event end.We then cut to a rare POV from Elenia Sarand, the captive Andoran noble who is being controlled by Arymilla but who has her own plans. We also get a POV from Daved Hanlon as he meets with Falion and Milli Skane to give us some insights into their machinations...Let us know what you thought of these chapters!X - @BloodAndAshPodBluesky - @bloodandashes.bsky.socialEmail - moritz@bloodandashespodcast.comYouTube - Blood and AshesFacebook - BloodAndAshesPodcastWeb - www.bloodandashespodcast.com (Now with voicemail capabilities!)Discord - Blood and Ashes (If the link doesn't work, drop me a message and I'll email you a fresh one)Merch - Blood and Ashes Merch! We're in it now, friends. The stretch of chapters that have alwasy to me represented the concept of the slog. And I'm happy to report, I didn't mind them. But at least one of us has very strong feelings about the chapters and the book, and we explore that with vigor! We touch base with Faile who is fending off adversity on every front. Then we join Elayne and aviendha as they go about the business of managing the Kin, Windfinders and Aes Sedai. During a siege. While trying to gain support for the crown. And then a bath happens and more Seafolk rudeness.Let us know what you thought of these much discussed stretch of the story!X - @BloodAndAshPodBluesky - @bloodandashes.bsky.socialEmail - moritz@bloodandashespodcast.comYouTube - Blood and AshesFacebook - BloodAndAshesPodcastWeb - www.bloodandashespodcast.com (Now with voicemail capabilities!)Discord - Blood and Ashes (If the link doesn't work, drop me a message and I'll email you a fresh one)Merch - Blood and Ashes Merch!
(Conversation recorded on December 18th, 2024) With the increase in geopolitical conflicts, supply chain challenges, and unprecedented natural disasters, there is more need than ever for international humanitarian organizations that transcend political and national allegiances. How will such organizations grow and evolve to become a central component to humanity's adaptation to the coming Great Simplification? In this episode, Nate is joined by European Regional Director for The Red Cross, Birgitte Bischoff, to discuss her vision for the future of humanitarian work and the challenges and opportunities for more proactive and prepared planning. Together, they discuss the critical importance of individual volunteers and the integration of a systems thinking approach at The Red Cross. How will diplomacy and an emphasis on social responsibility help us navigate the growing international pressures from rising migration and resource constraints? In what ways can scenario planning improve our responses to the multitude of converging crises, as well as foster resilience? Most of all, in an unknown future of potentially existential challenges, what can we do to be prepared and respond with empathy and tolerance? About Birgitte Bischoff: Birgitte Bischoff Ebbesen is the International Federation of the Red Cross Regional Director for Europe, covering 53 Red Cross Red Crescent National Societies in Europe and Central Asia. The Regional Director is responsible for implementing the IFRC mandated functions: Strategic and Operational Coordination; Membership Services and Humanitarian Diplomacy in the region. Birgitte has more than 15 years' experience working with the IFRC network and was previously the International Director of Danish Red Cross and Co-chair of the IFRC Reference Centre for Psychosocial Support. On this week's CinemAddicts, Eric Holmes interviewed "Afterwar" filmmaker Birgitte Stærmose. "Afterwar" will be available online from November 17th through December 1, 2024 as a virtual screening experience through DOC NYC. The North American premiere is November 16 at the Village East By Angelika (featuring filmmaker Q&A). Poster courtesy of Magic Hour Films For more info: 1. Screening Info: https://www.docnyc.net/film/afterwar/Offiicial 2. Official Website: https://www.magichourfilms.dk/afterwar Official Plot Synopsis: "Burning buildings in a dense fog, a dead horse on a dusty road, people fleeing through harsh mountain landscapes. Afterwar opens with images from war-torn Kosovo, 1999, as a dark chapter in the history of modern Europe draws to a close. After the war, children sell peanuts and cigarettes on the streets of Pristina in order to survive. They speak to us: ‘There's only one reason I'm talking to you. It is my hunger! I'm so hungry, I could eat your money!' In a cinematic testament co-created over 15 years, they transform into adults before our eyes. Yet the child still stares back at us from behind the adult gaze, as the struggle to survive becomes a struggle for a future at all. They confront us with their innermost secrets and desires, while stuck in limbo and haunted by their past. Through a close artistic collaboration with the lead cast – Xhevahire, Gëzim, Shpresim, and Besnik – the film moves between raw realism, staged performance, and an existential meditation on the long-term repercussions of war. Any war, anywhere." ***Support CinemAddicts by purchasing/renting movies using our Amazon affiliate links or our SiteStripe. ***CinemAddicts Movie Picks (worth Renting/Purchasing) include: Seven Cemeteries Dominique The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry Red Rooms Take Cover For Ad-Free CinemAddicts episodes, subscribe to our CinemAddicts YouTube Channel. And Meghan probably wouldn't even visit the UK should a major tragedy strike and Harry wind up King.Meanwhile, the B team's Princess Beatrice gave a heartfelt speech at the ADIPEC Exhibition and Conference in Abu Dhabi about the importance of inclusivity in AI. Princess Eugenie was in Qatar, appearing radiant in a vibrant yellow ensemble. The princess toured Doha's M7 art center. What about secret weapon Sophie Wessex you ask? The Duchess of Edinburgh had a bit of a mishap at Legoland Windsor while playing a round of minature golf. Sophie was seen wincing as the ball ricocheted off her club and came right back at her which is not at all funny so stop giggling.Unlock an ad-free podcast experience with Caloroga Shark Media! In 2023, Norway remains haunted by the unresolved and brutal murder of Birgitte Tengs. Despite the controversy surrounding the acquittal of a suspect in 1998 and a renewed investigation in 2016 based on extensive DNA analysis, the case still lacks a definitive resolution, deepening the mystery surrounding Tengs' death. Characterized by multiple appeals and enduring public interest, this case continues to shroud Norway's criminal justice system in ambiguity. This episode was written and produced by Kathrine Baldishol, researched by Torjus Augestad Ambjør and narrated by Christopher Rygh. With two Directors at NFPA - Michele Steinberg and Birgitte Messerschmidt, I'm trying to find an answer to a burning question - "what really is the WUI problem?" The WUI is not just a line on a map with an X distance from the forest... In this episode we try to define what it is, and who is in danger. Instead of our usual conversations looking into characteristics of burning forests, or seeking the impact of detailing in construction, in this episode we try to take a birds eye view and identify the problem across the scales and frameworks. From seeking out good definitions and their impact on policymaking, through technical solutions up to creating new testing and certification systems. So where are the answers? Actions across the scales at homeowner - community - regional levels, in which they are interconnected and optimal. A fireproof house in the middle of wrongfully managed area will not be of great difference… As well as a dangerous premise at the edge of the forest… The outcome of a WUI fire incoming will be an outcome of propper actions taken at every level. We need new solutions. Scallable ones. We need better testing and standardization, new listings. We need to find ways to involve the private sector and create interesting pathways for fire safety engineers to work with people at risk, at whatever scale. The future looks promising, let's make sure we are a part of it. Vil du gerne støtte podcasten her? It's that time again! A book finale! And boy, what a finale it is. After the wild events of our previous episode, there is plenty more to chew on here. Elayne has to deal with new developments in the Kin/Aes Sedai relationship, and finally arrives in Caemlyn to begin her claim in earnest. We bid farewell to Jaichim Carridin, but before you gett too excited, he's replaced by arguably an even more hateful character in Daved Hanlon. In Cairhien the Aes Sedai kidnappers under Wise ONes control swear fealty to Rand, and soon after his rooms in are exploded. He goes haring off to find the attackers, spooking the Dashiva, Gedwyn and Rochaid who seem to be the perpetrators. Morr is left to defend Min, but he suffers a sad fate. Perrin finally meets up with Masema, but while he's away Faile and friends are captured by Shaido. We all know where this is going! We also discuss Book 8 as a whole and whether it should be counted among "The Slog" or not. Spoiler: it shouldn't!Let us know what you think of book 8 using the links below!X - @BloodAndAshPodEmail - moritz@bloodandashespodcast.comYouTube - Blood and AshesFacebook - BloodAndAshesPodcastWeb - www.bloodandashespodcast.com (Now with voicemail capabilities!)Discord - Blood and Ashes (If the link doesn't work, drop me a message and I'll email you a fresh one)Merch - Blood and Ashes Merch!
Book 8 is almost done and stuff is HAPPENING!Rand faces the full Seanchan force at Ebou Dar and stuff goes a little wild.In the White Tower Elaida is bossed about by Alviarin, who in turn has a meeting with Mesaana and starts to get a little ahead of herself...The hunt for the Black Ajah in the White Tower has begun in earnest and quickly reaps some rewards. While near the Black Tower, things are not much better for the Aes Sedai.Rand returns to Cairhien where he has to reckon with Min's annoyance at being shelved while Rand chases danger, and then the Maidens for leaving them behind too.
Camilla

Welcome back, friends! Or are we the ones that are back? I forget. In this episode we bear witness to poor Mat being completely victimised by Tylin. At least he doesn't seem too cut up about it, but it does generate a good conversation about consent. Elayne puts her foot down with the rebel Aes Sedai and finally gets to show Reanne and The Kin who she really is.And Moghedien shoots her shot, and misses, effectively freeing Nynaeve from her block. We're back and better than ever!In this episode we see the entrance of everyone's favourite scary grandma, Cadsuane! We check in with Sevanna, Sammael and Graendal, all being spied on by Moridin who makes his entry into the series. Just who is more crazy or delusional between those is debateable. We also hop back to Ebou Dar where Birgitte and Mat bond over some pitchers of wine and Nynaeve is forced by Elayne to go apologise to Mat for their their treatment of him after Aviendha schools them in ji'e'toh.Immediately after doing so, the girls latch onto a new lead. But what did you think of these chapters? Welcome back to Ebou Dar! In this episode we leave Egwene and the rebel Aes Sedai behind and check in on our intrepid girls, plus Mat.Elayne, Aviendha and Nynaeve decide to approach the many Sea Folk anchored in the Ebou Dar bay to ask for help finding what they now know to be The Bowl of the Winds.Mat, on the other hand, is gambling. He spots a familiar face in a crowd and follws her to the palace used by Jaichim Carridin. When we switch points of view to Bors, he's meeting with all sorts of unsavoury folks.Mat heads to the palace to warn the girls but instead kicks not one but two hornests nests but running into a group of tower and rebel Aes Sedai, and then catching the eye of queen Tylin herself! After escaping both situations he heads back to the Wandering Woman only be be set upon by would-be assassins. Then, to finish things off we get a quick point of view from some Black Ajah sisters also looking for the Bowl, as well as an as yet unnamed beggar that will play a big role in the future. It's all happening! But what did you think of these chapters? Got some major juggling going on here, as Nynaeve works to manipulate multiple options, anything to get a boat ASAP. For the love of the Light, how long will she have to have Birgitte shooting at her??? Elayne, Birgitte, and Aviendha walk into a Boarderlander camp… This feels like the start of a joke, but without a rooster in the mix I'm not sure where to take it. Elayne basically lies to get what she wants, Birgitte scowls in peak warder fashion, and Avi gets called a “black-eyed Aiel” which confuses your hosts for a bit.
