Radio Nova revisite ses propres classiques : les raretés de tout bord qui rythment notre antenne, de la soul-funk au hip-hop en passant par les musiques afro-latines et la pop. Aujourd’hui : « Beggin » de Timebox.Non, la version jouée par Radio Nova n’est pas l’originale de Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, remise au goût du jour par un edit de Pilooski en 2007. Sur Nova, on vous jouait une cover anglaise parue en 1968, soit un an seulement après que Franki Valli ne sorte « Beggin ».Timebox, groupe basé non loin de Liverpool, est reconnu pour ses prestations sur scène. C’est d’ailleurs lors d’un show au Windsor Festival en 1967, que le groupe mené par le duo de songwriter Mike Patto / Ollie Halsall se fait remarquer par un producteur de Decca, label sur lequel on retrouve The Rolling Stones ou encore The Who. Il les signe sur Deram Records, une filiale du label. Après une première reprise de Tim Hardin, les voilà qui offre leur version de « Beggin ». Plus uptempo que l’originale, elle est aussi l’occasion de remettre en lumière un groupe dont les influences jazz ont nourri leur jeu, un groupe soul psychédélique dont la qualité de jeu a soufflé plus d’un spectateur à l’époque.Le groupe sortira plusieurs maxi dans les années 60, puis en album dans les années 70 avant de se transformer. Deux compilations regroupent la plupart de leur single, l’une sorti en 1998 – The Deram Anthology – puis une autre parue en 2008, intitulée Timebox, The Sound of London Mods Scene, une compilation quo les inclue donc dans la scène Mod anglaise. Sur Nova, c’est donc la version de « Beggin » de Timebox, qui sort aussi sur la Nova Classic 3, parue en 2002. Pilooski donc, journaliste, DJ, membre du collectif de label D.I.R.T.Y., producteur (Tristesse Contemporaine, Hypnolove, Perez, Discodeine…) en proposera sa propre version en 2007, avant que d’autres, comme Madcon, n’en fasse de même.Visuel © Beggin de Timebox See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

The French Producer/DJ Malcolm Dakeyo aka Kelton Prima is a true pioneer of the Parisian music scene, where he emerged in the late 80ies with the DIY funk band Future Minds. He’s worked with illustrious legends like Pilooski, is involved in music distribution, writes articles for press and runs the Ind.rec record label. His recent releases on Jamal Moss’ Mathematics Recordings have garnered critical acclaim and he’s contributed to the remix project of Hard Ton`s “Party Hard Ton” on Luv Shack Records.
