Friend of the show & relief pitcher, John Brebbia, returned to reflect back on the 2023 MLB season. Brebbia was one of the main San Francisco Giants key relievers & excelled as a ‘bull-pen' starter from time to time when the Giants needed someone to start the first few innings of a game.John also had fun discussing his beard that he grows out at the start of every season. John shared his plans on when he plans to shave it off! Also included in this episode is an interview I was able to do with Stephen Piscotty during spring training from inside the Giants spring training clubhouse. Piscotty has played for the Oakland Athletics & St. Louis Cardinals. Unfortunately, Piscotty did not make the team but grew up in the Bay Area & spoke on his career playing for the hometown teams as well as being a new father. For video footage of these interviews:John Brebbia - https://youtu.be/LgYf8aJImz4?si=YPhX64mwcVi-AzaZStephen Piscotty - https://youtu.be/Vc_ew-alpIY?si=P3QFmrHdlbXservLFor more exclusive content, follow the Jim on Base Show on social media (Twitter/Instagram/TikToK): @JimonBaseShow

Depth has been a focus for the San Francisco Giants since Farhan Zaidi took over, but they're looking a little thin in the outfield as the season approaches. Mitch Haniger (oblique) and Austin Slater (hamstring) are questionable for Opening Day, which is just over a week away in New York. What are the Giants' plans in the event that either or both has to miss time? Some fallback options would've included the likes of Luis González and Stephen Piscotty, but both are banged up as well. González recently had back surgery, and Piscotty has an oblique issue of his own. The SF Giants could put Joc Pederson or LaMonte Wade Jr. in the outfield, but that would create its own problems because they'd need to be platooned and there aren't any right-handed hitters to put in the outfield if Haniger and Slater are out.Ultimately, someone like Bryce Johnson may end up making the Giants' roster if there are injuries in the outfield. Johnson is the type of guy the Giants could simply stick in center field, appreciate his defense and baserunning, and take what they can get out of the No. 9 spot in the lineup. With the 2023 season not even here yet, we're already seeing the Giants' depth tested and it's not entirely clear where they'll turn.Find and follow Locked On Giants on your favorite podcast platforms:

The Oakland Athletics and San Francisco Giants are rivals on the field during the Battle of the Bay, but they are united behind the scenes in the battle against ALS. A’s right fielder Stephen Piscotty is leading the charge. His mother Gretchen passed away in 2018 after fighting ALS. Led by his father, Michael, the Piscotty family has championed the cause of finding a cure. “My mom frankly suffered for quite a while and it was really hard to watch,” Piscotty said on The With Authority Podcast. “One thing she kind of said is ‘do what you can, so that no one else has to suffer like this.’” https://alscure.net/alsbay/ This weekend during the Bay Bridge Series, the ALS Cure Project is holding a virtual fundraiser. In addition to a massive collection of A’s and Giants memorabilia up for auction, you can also purchase beer, wine, and whisky and then take part in virtual tastings with Piscotty and a host of other guests via Zoom. The events are scheduled around the Bay Bridge Series games this weekend. “We’re trying to carry that torch and do all that we can,” Piscotty said. “Unfortunately, we can’t solve it over night. It’s going to take a lot of hard work and dedication and that’s the reality of it, but we are up for that challenge.” The A’s are in first place in the A.L. West and have a chance to clinch a playoff berth this weekend at home against the Giants. Running a charity and playing baseball during a global pandemic is a lot to handle. You can help out Piscotty, and pick up some beer, wine, whisky or merchandise for a good cause by visiting the ALS Cure Project now. We also talk pandemic baseball and MLB's saliva tests, the postseason bubble, and what it'll take to clinch the AL West in the Bay Bridge Series.

On today's Locked On Giants podcast, host Ben Kaspick talks about the San Francisco Giants' historic collapses on Friday and Saturday against the Oakland Athletics. On Friday, the Giants took a 7-2 lead into the 9th inning. Trevor Gott, who has become the team's closer over the season's first month, starting the inning. He got an out against the first batter he faced, Matt Chapman, but things quickly went down hill from there. After allowing a home run and a walk, Robbie Grossman hit a ground ball to first baseman Wilmer Flores. The ground ball took Flores' momentum towards the first base bag. He fielded it cleanly and took a step or two towards first base, where he could have easily recorded the second out of the inning. Instead, he inexplicably decided to throw towards second base, where Brandon Crawford caught the ball but took his foot off the base and tried to tag the runner. No out was recorded on the play. Instead of two outs and a runner on second with a 7-3 lead, it was two on, one out, and a 7-3 lead. Gott then hit Khris Davis, which brought up Stephen Piscotty representing the tying run with just one out. Piscotty then proceeded to hit a game-tying grand slam on a hanging curveball. Gott got into more trouble, but Tyler Rogers got out of it. The Giants then proceeded to lose by a run in the 10th inning. It was the first time since the 1920s that the Giants blew a five-plus run 9th-inning lead. The next day, the Giants took a 6-3 lead into the 9th and Trevor Gott was summoned once again. Gott allowed a home run to the first batter he faced, but then settled down and recorded the first out. The next batter, Tony Kemp, hit a soft line drive out to right field, and Hunter Pence completely misjudged it. He ran in a couple steps, then veered back and to his right before the ball landed safely over his head. It was a ball that should have been caught. Gott then got the next batter on a line out. Matt Olson then came up representing the tying run. Left-handed pitcher Sam Selman, who has been very good this year, was loose in the 'pen and seemed like a solid option to replace Gott against the lefty Olson. But manager Gabe Kapler elected to leave Gott in the game, and he walked Olson to bring up the go-ahead run in Mark Canha. In a full count, Canha hit a go-ahead three-run homer. The Giants did not score in the bottom of the 9th and lost the game, 7-6. It was the first time in franchise history that the Giants lost back-to-back games in which they had three-plus run 9th-inning leads.Rock AutoAmazing selection. Reliably low prices.
