We're back, baby! A multitude of events in this increasingly dystopian world of ours forced us to sideline Blood Red for... [checks notes] ...three months... but now, with less than a month until the return of the annual Hooptober horror film marathon, we return with a doozie of a discussion on a highly entertaining, not-quite "horror," not-quite-"film." It's Verotika. The thing we're discussing is Verotika, Glenn Danzig's 2019 directorial debut. Actually "directorial debut" doesn't quite give you the full picture; Danzig directed, wrote, soundtracked and also, bizarrely, DP'd this three-part anthology, so it is his baby completely -- eyeball tits, face removals and all. (And yes, both of those things do feature in Verotika.) Is it any good? Listener, it is not. But was it fun to discuss? You bet your ass it was. Join us for an at-length chat with much laughter and bewilderment. Of note: Dan's technology failed him yet again during recording. You'll notice several short skips during his speaking sections, seemingly at random. Not really sure what happened there, but the good news is he's still mostly comprehensible. (Inasmuch as he's ever "comprehensible.") We've included links to the books he mentions during the "Other Stuff" section -- the titles of which were both audio-skipped -- in the notes below. Sorry to all fans of books and/or competently recorded podcasts! Anyway, jump in and give Episode 2 a listen! -- BOOK LINKS: Point B (A Teleportation Love Story), by Drew Magary | We Were Eight Years in Power: An American Tragedy, by Ta-Nehisi Coates 9C LINKS: Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram

Our truth series is wrapped up this week with a deeply personal conversation on changing truth.  Everyone on this show, and the vast majority of our listeners, have experienced a truth change.  Many times we refer to that process as deconstruction.  A term that reflects a reality we all share, but that falls short of communicating the depth and heartache involved in the process of changing truth. Bonnie starts the conversation with the question, “What was it like for you to wake up one morning and know you were not operating with the same set of beliefs?”  The answers get personal and lead to an unexpected reminder of the privilege inherent in questioning truth.  Race, gender and sexuality can be a huge catalyst for how traumatic a truth revision can be. As the group continues to share it also becomes apparent that representation in our education into new truths is paramount.  It helps us see ourselves so that we can better see others.  We are not on this journey alone. This episode closes with a round of Famous Christians for 100.  Each host has provided a quote from a ‘famous’ ‘christian’ and the others need to tap their vast knowledge of Christian culture to guess the source.   Conversation on Changing Truth (00:04:23) Famous Christians for 100 Segment (01:08:15) ANTI-RACIST RESOURCE LIST This list is an evolving anti-racist resource list, and consists of material we have found helpful in our journey into anti-racism.  To view the update list please visit Irenicast.com/AntiRacist.  To recommend resources to be added to the list please email us at podcast@irenicast.com. Dr. E. Michael Jones, editor of Culture Wars magazine, recently reviewed the new book by Ta-Nehisi Coates, "We Were Eight Years in Power: An American Tragedy." He connects some of the ideas he sees in this book with the sex scandals hitting Hollywood and the media. The themes are fatherlessness and loss of control of the sexual passions. Ta-Nehisi became the editor of the famous abolitionist magazine, The Atlantic Monthly, at the beginning of the Obama presidency. Like President Obama he loved hip hop music and the world view it brought with it. Like Frederick Douglas he became an atheist and lived in sexual immorality. But the big theme is men being enslaved to the sin of womanizing. This sin is a destructive slavery especially because it creates fatherlessness, which then produces sons enslaved again to womanizing. Dr. Jones argues that Ta-Nehisi shares in the "generational shame" because of the guilt of his and his father's sins. But instead of coming to Christ and seeking forgiveness and conversion he becomes an atheist and scapegoats all this guilt onto the "whites" Part of his theme is that the Jewish controlled Hollywood and media have been "social engineering" this agenda for about 70 years. It has been overturning our Christian heritage but now with Matt Lauer and others getting conquered by the same uncontrolled sexual passion their own empire is starting to sing to the tune of "It's the End of the World as We Know It." Dr, Jones asserts that "the most effective propaganda ministry in the history of the world collapsed under a barrage of sexual harassment claims.”

There may be no writer closer to the center of our national conversation about race, equality, justice, and how racism divides and disorders our society than Ta-Nehisi Coates.  His 2015 book Between the World and Me, an anatomy of the ongoing power of racism in America in the form of a letter to his teenage son, brought him global acclaim, a National Book Award for Nonfiction, and a Macarthur fellowship.  In this episode of the podcast, Ta-Nehisi Coates talks with Bill Tipper about his new book, We Were Eight Years in Power: An American Tragedy.  Knitting together some of the most vital essays the author has published over the past decade —  including a profile of President Barack Obama,  a searing indictment of destruction of the black family via the justice system, and Coates's landmark "The Case for Reparations,” We Were Eight Years in Power takes readers along with Coates into a deep consideration of nothing less urgent than the fate of the nation.
