Vielmehr war das Verbrechen ein politisches Kalkül, um – mit Blick auf den kommenden Kalten Krieg – die Sowjetunion als Bezwinger der deutschen Nazi-Armeen einzuschüchtern und in ihre Schranken zu verweisenVor genau 79 Jahren, am 6. und am 9. August, setzten die USA zum ersten und vorerst letzten Mal in der Geschichte der Menschheit Atomwaffen gegen die Zivilbevölkerung zweier japanischer Großstädte ein, nämlich Hiroshima und Nagasaki. Als wären die Luftaufnahmen von der unsäglichen Zerstörungskraft der ersten Bombe auf Hiroshima nicht entsetzlich genug gewesen, führte 3 Tage später ein weiterer US-Bomber den Befehl von ganz oben aus Washington aus und warf die zweite nukleare Massenvernichtungswaffen auf die nichtsahnenden Menschen der Großstadt Nagasaki.Wie aus den Dokumenten jener Zeit hervorgeht, sahen schon damals führende US-Militärs – im Gegensatz zur auch hier in Deutschland weit verbreitenden Mär – keine zwingende militärische Notwendigkeit für den Einsatz dieser beiden, unterschiedslos tötenden, verstümmelnden und verstrahlenden Massenvernichtungswaffen. Denn es war in der politischen und militärischen US-Führungsriege längst bekannt, dass sich die japanische Regierung bereits seit geraumer Zeit um Kontakte für Kapitulationsverhandlungen bemüht hatte.Dokumente, die vor allem erst in den letzten drei Jahrzehnten veröffentlicht wurden, deuten vielmehr darauf hin, dass Washington mit Blick auf die zukünftigen Verhandlungen mit der aufsteigenden Supermacht Sowjetunion über die Nachkriegsordnung den Kreml in Moskau mit dieser nuklearen Machtdemonstration einschüchtern wollte. In diesem politischen Kalkül der US-Regierung spielten die unzähligen Opfer von Hiroshima und Nagasaki keine Rolle; denn sie waren wertlose Verfügungsmasse und lediglich Mittel zum Zweck. Dabei hat offenbar der damals in den USA noch weit verbreitete Rassismus mitgespielt.Erst viel später versuchten die für den atomaren Massenmord verantwortlichen US-Politiker, ihre Tat mit der angeblich militärischen Notwendigkeiten zu rechtfertigen, dass auf diese Weise sei der Krieg schnell vorbei gewesen und die Gesamtzahl der Opfer sei trotz Atomwaffeneinsatz auf japanischer und auch auf amerikanischer Seiten weitaus geringer gewesen als wenn es zu einen US-Invasion der japanischen Hauptinsel gekommen wäre. Laut dieser, auch heute noch offiziellen US-Version, wird aus einem der schlimmsten Verbrechen der Menschheitsgeschichte letztlich sogar ein humaner Akt. So kann man Geschichte verdrehen. Heute haben wir eine kleine Programmänderung und präsentieren euch daher in einer knackigen #kassensturz Folge die News der letzten Woche. Die "netten" Nachbarn von nebenan... wer weiß, wer sie wirklich sind? Die Jungs, die "nur" ein paar Eier holen wollen?.....Oder doch jemand ganz anderes? Das Remake "Funny Games U.S." aus dem Jahre 2007 ist ein ruhig erzählter aber extrem verstörender Psycho-Thriller, der alles andere als Spaß macht. Und dennoch fesselt er die Zuschauer an den Sitz, die nicht glauben können was passiert und man sich einfach machtlos fühlt. Ich quäle mich heute mit Christian durch diesen Film und wir fühlen uns fast schon schlecht Euch eine gute Unterhaltung zu wünschen. Aber trotzdem: Viel Spaß bei der Filmbesprechung!

Folge #140 Lucas ist gerade aus seinem aufregenden Hollywoodurlaub zurück und hat in der Flugzeugkabine ordentlich Filmstoff verschlungen. Dabei standen "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" von 2023 und der Kult-Klassiker "Zoolander" von 2001 auf dem Programm. Lucas teilt seine Eindrücke von den grünen Helden und lädt uns zu einem nostalgischen Blick auf den Fashion-Overkill von Zoolander ein. Timo hält ebenfalls einige Filmtipps parat. Er schwärmt von "The Creator" (2023), einem epischen Sci-Fi-Werk von Gareth Edwards, in dem die Menschheit einen Krieg gegen künstlich intelligente Androiden führt. Der Production Value beeindruckt Timo nachhaltig, und er hofft auf mehr solcher Blockbuster in der Zukunft. David Finchers neuster Streich, "The Killer" (2023), hat es Timo ebenfalls angetan. Ein Auftragsmörder, eine missglückte Mission, und der Beginn eines packenden Rachefeldzugs. Mit diesem Thriller beweist Fincher erneut sein Können. Neben all den Filmtipps wirft Timo auch einen Blick auf die kleine Leinwand. Er empfiehlt eine berührende Dokumentation über den an Parkinson erkrankten Schauspieler Michael J. Fox, der in seiner Jugend mit "Back to the Future" Weltruhm erlangte. Lucas gibt uns einen Einblick in seine Urlaubsserien, angefangen mit der US-Version von "The Office". Timo kontert mit dem Hinweis, dass die deutsche Comedy-Serie "Stromberg" auf dem gleichen Konzept basiert und sich definitiv lohnt, wenn man von "The Office" begeistert ist. In dieser Ausgabe des JediCast dreht sich alles um die Kurzgeschichtensammlung aus der Ära der Hohen Republik. In insgesamt neun Geschichten erhalten wir kleine Zwischenepisoden nach Phase2 oder rund um Phase 1 und vor Phase 3. Im Fokus stehen die jeweiligen Figuren der Autor*innen, die sie für die Phasen geschaffen haben und bei denen die eine oder andere Frage noch offen ist. Wir besprechen hier die Standardausgabe ohne die Geschichte von Alyssa Wong, da xiese Geschichte nur in der US-Version von Barnes and Nobles enthalten ist und nicht ohne Umwege in Deutschland erhältlich sein wird. Sicherlich sind einige Geschichten relevanter als andere, aber auch ein Lückenfüller kann Spaß machen und lässt diese Ära noch expansiver, vielschichtiger und voller werden". Die Einlagensicherung bei US-Banken ist viel höher als hier. Alle Banken bieten mindestens die gesetzlich vorgeschrieben $250.000 an, manche sogar bis zu $5 Millionen.  Wenn du mit dem US-Dollar als Währung klarkommst, kann also ein Konto in den USA für den Vermögensschutz attraktiv sein. Aber um in den USA ein Konto eröffnen zu können, brauchst du vielfach eine ITIN. Die Abkürzung ITIN steht für US Individual Taxpayer Identification Number und lässt sich kurz gefasst als deine persönliche Identifikationsnummer und US-Steuernummer im US-Steuersystem bezeichnen. Sie ist für alle erforderlich, um eine Einkommensteuererklärung abzugeben haben. Dies sind vereinfacht alle nicht in den USA ansässigen Personen jeder Staatsbürgerschaft, die US-Mieteinkünfte, Einkünfte aus Beteiligungen und z. B. Veräußerungserlöse aus US-Immobilien haben und darauf Steuern bezahlen müssen oder eine Steuererstattung bekommen. Aber mit der ITIN hast du noch viele andere Vorteile: Mit der ITIN kannst du - Konten bei allen US-Banken (Chase, Bank of America, Citi etc.) für dich selbst und dein Unternehmen eröffnen, - US-Kreditkarten, einschließlich der US-Version von American Express, beantragen, - PayPal Konto und PayPal Geschäftskonto eröffnen, - eine gute Bonität und einen Credit Score in den USA aufbauen, - einen Handyvertrag in den USA abschließen, und vieles mehr.

Mit "Aftermath" gelang The Rolling Stones endgültig der musikalische Durchbruch. Es ist das erste Album der Stones, das durchgängig vom Songwriter-Duo Mick Jagger und Keith Richards geschrieben wurde. Mick Jagger höchstpersönlich hat "Aftermath" in einem Rolling Stone-Interview von 1995 in den Meilenstein-Rang erhoben: "Für mich ist Aftermath ein Meilenstein, der endlich den Spuk beendete, der darin bestand, dass wir diese sehr schönen und zweifellos interessanten, aber eben doch Coverversionen von alten RnB Songs machen mussten — denen wir, um ehrlich zu sein — nicht wirklich gerecht wurden." Entstehungsgeschichte von "Aftermath" The Rolling Stones waren 1965 schon sehr populär mit internationalen Hits wie "The Last Time" oder "Satisfaction", als sie von dem amerikanischen Geschäftsmann Allen Klein entdeckt wurden, der sie dann in den USA vertreten hat. Während ihrer vierten Tour durch Nordamerika 1965 haben Mick Jagger und Keith Richards den Großteil der Songs für das Album zusammen geschrieben. Die Handschrift der beiden ist unverkennbar. Musikalisch ist "Aftermath" eine bunte Wundertüte, was vor allem an Brian Jones liegt, der mit seinem Faible für exotische Instrumente und seiner Experimentierfreudigkeit neue Frische in den Sound der Stones gebracht hat. Jones war von Anfang an derjenige, der die Stones gegründet hat, er hat ihnen den Namen gegeben und im Grunde auch die Musiker zusammengebracht, aber war nie ein Songwriter, was ihn zeitlebens geärgert hat. Dies führte auch während der Aufnahmen zu Spannungen innerhalb der Band. Aufgenommen wurde die Platte in kürzester Zeit in Los Angeles in den RCA Studios in Hollywood, direkt nach dem Tourende im Dezember und dann noch einmal im März 1966 innerhalb von 7 Tagen. Es wurde viel improvisiert, Ton Ingenieur Dave Hassinger hat den Stones innerhalb der Sessions freie Hand gelassen. Von "Could You Walk On The Water" zu "Aftermath" Ursprünglich war die Musik als Soundtrack für den Film "Back, Behind and In Front" von Nicholas Ray gedacht, aber Mick Jagger kam mit dem Regisseur nicht klar, sodass dieser ursprüngliche Plan verworfen wurde. Außerdem gab es eine Kontroverse über den Titel des Albums, Manager Andrew Oldham schlug vor die Platte "Could You Walk On The Water" zu nennen, was von der amerikanischen Plattenfirma für die Christen in den USA als blasphemisch empfunden wurde. So kam es zu dem Titel "Aftermath", also "Nachwirkungen", geeinigt. Es gibt zwei unterschiedliche Versionen des Albums, eine UK- und eine US-Version und beide haben unterschiedliche Opener, da die Plattenfirmen gerne selbst die Platten an den lokalen bzw. internationalen Markt angepasst haben. Im Vereinigten Königreich und bei uns in Deutschland war das "Mother's Little Helper" und in den Vereinigten Staaten war es "Paint It Black". Europa hat sich musikalisch immer sehr nach England orientiert, daher gab es auch in Deutschland die britische Fassung. "Mother's Little Helper" "Mother's Little Helper" eröffnet die britische Version der Platte. Der Song handelt davon, dass sich Hausfrauen in den 60ern mit Valium und anderen Mitteln betäuben, um ihren Alltag zu überstehen. Damit sprachen die Stones ein gesellschaftskritisches Thema der westlichen Gesellschaft an und stellten es provokant dar.   "Paint It Black" — über die seelische Düsternis "Paint It Black" eröffnet die amerikanische Version des Albums. Der Song handelt von jemanden, der aus Trauer um einen verlorenen Menschen in Depressionen verfällt. Jagger beschreibt diese seelische Düsternis, da gibt kein Licht in diesem Song. Das gab es so vorher nicht in dieser Form und hatte dann sehr großen Einfluss — auch auf die Geschichte der Rockmusik. Few words are truly needed to pay tribute to something adored by so many. Jacob Johnson helps us pay our respects to a great TV show (US Version) that has impacted so many lives and continues to do so.

Three completely different shows, one title--Break the Bank.  One was good, one was basic, and one was a mess.  And how does one Mrs. Mickey Kennedy Branson play a role in all of this?

Denn was uns geiernden Hauptschulabbrechern als wahre Suche nach der großen Liebe verkauft wird, ist in Wirklichkeit eine Fernsehsendung. In der Serie heißt die Kuppel-Show Everlasting und wird von einer ehemaligen Produzentin vom Bachelor produziert. Mehr Insiderwissen geht nicht.

Squirrel, we then went off into a tangent about nootropics including a Shout Out to Four Sigmatic as well as Michael Pollan and his books Omnivore’s Dilemma, and How to Change Your Mind. Zack mentioned The Game Changers and its effect on him as well as athletes who follow a vegan diet, Rich Roll, the ultra-marathoner came up and we discussed the Tennessee Titans who have numerous vegans among them as Derrick Morgan’s wife is a vegan chef. Zack challenged me to post about the proper form for cycling. The trainer I referenced is Walt Gonzalez of Peake Endurance in Chesapeake, VA.. If there's one true reason why the American adaptation of The Office resonates so much with people, it's because it feels hauntingly real. Does the Contractor have Bookkeeper? Sometimes the Answer Is Yes. No Charge One-Hour Consultation Definition of Free One Hour Consulting from the contractor side is: I am a General Contractor My life and accounting is in Chaos What does it cost to fix it? Will you invoice my clients? Will you pay all my bills? Will you pay all my taxes? Will you pay employees? If you have any data that you can include relating to your list, include that in your introduction, too. I received a call from a prospect a couple of years ago. She asked questions similar to the ones above. When I started to ask questions about her business her immediate response was: “I am asking the Questions – Not answering any of yours! “Information About My Business Is None Of Your %&*#^ Business!” My response was that I could not be of assistance and Hung Up. Unfortunately dealing with an accountant is a lot like going to the Doctor. We are unable to fix yesterday (clean up existing or previous bookkeeping) without knowing a little history. We are unable to determine the proper course going forward without knowing the following:  What do you do? Handyman, General Contractor, Commercial TI Contractor, Remodel Contractor, Specialty Trade Contractor, Home Builder. Each of these answers leads to more questions: Do you do Remodels or New Construction As a Builder is It High-End Remodels, Customs, Spec Building Do you have multiple companies you are running in a single QuickBooks file? Were you formerly a Large Contractor or worked for a Large Contractor used to all of the detail of a High-End Specialty Software and wanted a $300 program to provide the same results? How are currently handling your payroll if you have employees? If no, employees do you plan to have some in the near future? We are in Washington State. It is fairly easy to become a Licensed General Contractor, Specialty Trade Contractor or Home Builder. It starts with determining what type of Business Entity do you want to be and register with the Secretary of State. Sole Prop Partnership LLC S-Corp. The Trick Is Do Everything In The Right Order Knowing It Is “Hurry Up and Wait.” Once your name is registered with the Secretary of State you can get your Federal Tax ID Number from the IRS. Move on to applying for your Master Business License. Then finally the Contractor’s License with State of Washington’s Department of Labor and Industries. Each state is a little different in it’s licensing rules. Some make it easier to become a Handyman and much harder to become a General Contractor. Your state may require State Exams. Each state is a little different in how it deals with sales tax. Some states do not have any sales tax. Others state charge tax on the material (which is paid to the supplier at the time of purchase). Washington State is a sales tax driven state. Every contractor must charge sales tax on all customer invoices unless they have a resales certificate from a General Contractor that the project is wholesale. Builder / Developer who is doing Spec Homes is the owners of the property. As the owner, the Builder / Developer must pay sales tax for all material, labor and to their contractors as they go. Handyman is licensed as General Contractors as they do a little bit of everything. From installing closet rods to the full-scale kitchen and bath remodel or whole house remodels. An additional twist is that Washington State Sales Tax is destination based. We need to keep track of where the sale is located. Every city has their own sales tax code (and individual local rate in addition to the state sales tax based). Luckily, we are able to file a combined return directly to the State for both State and Local sales tax. Depending on the company, the report and payment may be due Monthly, Quarterly, or Annually. Payroll Is A Big Deal As Our Worker’s Comp Is Run By The State Of Washington. For all businesses, Workers Compensation is based on Hours worked, and the rate varies by trade and experience factor. It’s sound simple to say but adds the need for electronic time sheets for all employees including owners. In 2017, we are required to pay Personal Time Off for employees working inside the Seattle City Limits. This includes delivery drivers who on their route make stops inside the Seattle City Limits In 2018, a Washington State Rule is that employers are required to pay Personal Time Off for all employees including Part Time. My Questions Help Me Understand Your Contracting Company. It is easier to do what I call “Playing Within The Lines.” The first Step is figuring where the Road is. What Do You Do? What Size Is Your Business? Do You Have Tools and Equipment? How Many Customers? How Much In Sales? Are you a Bigger Business with lots of Employees? We can talk – I will steer you to a Payroll Service and an In-House Bookkeeper. Do you have multiple companies? We can talk – We may be able to assist with the bookkeeping for some of them We are able to Setup, Cleanup, Enter Missing bookkeeping for most QuickBooks Desktop files Are you a Handyman, Specialty Trade Contractor, General Contractor with Zero to 5-7 employees We can talk – We may be able to assist with the bookkeeping We are able to Setup, Cleanup, Enter Missing bookkeeping for most QuickBooks Desktop files Are you a General Contractor, Custom and Spec Home Builder. We can talk – Accounting for each of these types of contacting is slightly different. Understanding exactly What You Do helps us Determine What Needs To Be Done. We Understand Construction Accounting. We know “What To Do” without additional supervision. Based on what you have “Told Us” we are able to do ongoing Bookkeeping. The issue happens with lack of paperwork, specialty projects where suddenly unseen Partners are involved; it appears to be a Custom Home but instead is a Spec Home or a variety of other factors where the “Bookkeeping Department” is the Last To Know. I have heard stories from owners who are unhappy with their existing In-House bookkeepers. In many cases, the In-House Bookkeeper has tried to do a good job with too little information which did not arrive in a timely fashion. It is impossible to enter into QuickBooks Desktop receipts they do not have and to keep up the checking account without information about customer payments and deposits. A Load of lumber from the Lumber Supplier is material to the Bookkeeper. It is unreasonable to expect an In-House Bookkeeper or us to know by looking at lumber receipts the material was used for Framing, Rough-In, Decking, or Trim for the House, Garage, Shed, Barn, Cabana, Gazebo, or Children’s Playhouse.   QuickBooks Job Costing Reports   These Reports - Can only be found in the Premier Contractors and Accountants editions of QuickBooks.
