For our second entry in our Video Game Book Club, we played CrossCode, a wonderful love letter to they heyday of MMORPGs! And what better way to pay our own homage to this era than by trying to play a 40 hour game in two weeks? Maybe this was a bad idea! Or maybe we just aren't in high school anymore? Either way, we (mostly) had a great time, and now we're ready to sit down and talk about it! In this episode: MMO experience, I play too much Zelda to have a silent protagonist like this, we fail to explain what CrossCode is for 10 minutes, if the game wants me to stop it'll have to tell me to stop, gamepad vs mouse & keyboard vs secret third option mouse & gamepad??, this love letter to MMORPGs plays a lot like Zelda, we really tried to do a 40 hour game in two weeks, too many shoutouts (sorry not sorry?) ~shoutouts zone~ Space Cowboy Online got bought and sold a bunch of times and apparently you can still play it? Yohoho! Puzzle Pirates! Dear Monhun Party Member, Please allow me to apologize for my toxicity on {day of week}. My behavior was extremely inappropriate, immature, and lacked the respect {you, organization} deserved. While my bugstick skills are sick and I didn't even die once; It was a disruption and distracted others from {doing their job, learning, etc…}. While it was not embarrassing and I have not learned anything I do acknowledge my toxic behavior. In the future, I have no intention of curbing my thoughtless actions and learning to adjust my behavior befitting the environment and situation. It is you all who need to get good. It is you all who are the cazuls. Learn to play your weapon and learn to use the dodge button! I look forward to {working, learning from, etc…} you {again/soon}. If you have any thoughts in this, please feel free to share. You may contact me at your convenience at {email/phone}. Sincerely, Craig of Saves Together -------- It's episode 63 time and Grace and Craig are talking all about Monster Hunter Rise for the Nintendo Switch! We've been playing for about a hundred hours at this point but don't intend to stop even though our episode on the matter is now finished. Craig has opened his heart to the idea that maybe for once HE'S the toxic gamer... hence the (definitely not a template) apology letter above. Tom runs through a brief history of video game distribution, starting with arcade consoles and ending with digital distribution stores. A number of trends are identified: transition from physical (resellable) objects to software licenses, certification programs driven by the game distributors and the gradually lowering bar for distribution that now supports ‘indie’ game development.
