Today, we're taking center stage to explore the rise and fall of E3—the Electronic Entertainment Expo—which debuted in 1995 and quickly became the most important annual event in the video game industry. We begin by uncovering its origins, tracing back to congressional hearings on video game violence, the formation of the ESRB, and the industry's desire to break free from CES. Then, we'll dive into E3's golden years, from surprise console launches and legendary game reveals to packed convention floors and media spectacle. Finally, we'll reflect on its decline in the digital age and the shifting landscape that ultimately led to its demise. So, grab your press badge and join us on the show floor for today's trip down Memory Card Lane!

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle llega a PS5 el 17 de abril. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle va a llegar a PS5 con novedades y entusiasmo. Te invitamos a compartir tus comentarios. In today's Daily Fix:MachineGames' hit Indiana Jones adventure for Xbox could be making its PS5 debut very soon. The ESRB recently rated the PS5 port, suggesting that the release date could be around the corner. This tracks with the previous release window of Spring 2025 (and it's now Spring). The game was a huge hit for Xbox, racking up more than 4 million players thanks to a Day One Game Pass release. In related news, Forza Horizon 5 is dropping for PS5 soon, and it will require not only a PSN account, but a Microsoft account, as well. Yes, that's technically two logins you'll need to play the game. Some gamers are concerned that this kills future game preservation for the title, since any issues with one service could affect the game's playability (i.e. you lose access to your Microsoft account for any reason, and you won't be able to play the game at all). And finally, Happy MAR10 Day! It's unofficially a Nintendo holiday every March 10th, and to celebrate this year's, LEGO has dropped a new Mario Kart LEGO set.

Video games were created as a form of entertainment. But for many parents, the concerns over their children's safety--when playing multi-player games online (and too much screen time) seems to be top of mind. So how can we ensure that our kids are picking the right games? And is there a way we can monitor things? Nicole chats with Aubrey Quinn, the Senior Vice President of the Entertainment Software Association (ESA). In this week's Gaming Fun Fact we explored the origins of E3, as video games matured from a simple tent at CES, to a well organized and professionally represented industry. Previously considered just a kid's toy, video games weren't given a proper platform to showcase their hardware and software. However, after the Senate started taking interest in violent games such as Mortal Kombat, the IDSA (now ESA), ESRB, and E3 were eventually all formed to give games a place to interact on a political and public relations level. PlayStation State of Play September 2024 just took place and was loaded with announcements for not only PS5 but also PS VR2. Some key game announcements & showcases included the Ghost of Tsushima sequel - Ghost of Yotei, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered. With the PS5 Pro available for pre-order and a short hardware showcase behind us, many gamers were left wondering which games would be taking advantage of the PS5 Pro's power. Sony has released a rather large list of games, both old and new, that will be receiving PS5 Pro enhancements including: Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Rise of the Ronin, Assassin's Creed Shadows, and much more.

As well as that there is another remaster in the works and being revealed at the next State of Play set to go live on September 24th. Which may or may not provide a road map for 2025 that may include Bungie's Marathon, third party deals, and again a rumored remaster to boost the allure to the PlayStation 5 Pro ( PS5 Pro ). Square Enix is not happy with Final Fantasy XVI and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth financial performance. As they both underperformed commercially. We give our second thoughts for the PS5 Pro. Sony and AMD partner on the next gen PlayStation 6 ( PS6 ) for backwards compatibility functionally. Also to help gain the PSSR technology.

Text us and say hello! In episode 21 of "Backwards Compatible," Lou and I dive into the brutal world of "Mortal Kombat," focusing on the Sega Genesis version, which many fans consider superior to its counterparts. This game not only sparked controversy with its hyper-violent content but also set a new standard for realism in fighting games with its digitized graphics that captured lifelike movements. We compare the Sega Genesis version of "Mortal Kombat" with the SNES and arcade versions, noting how the Genesis version retained the infamous blood and fatalities that were significantly toned down on the SNES. This distinction was pivotal, as it influenced the game's reception and legacy, cementing the Genesis version as the definitive home console experience for many gamers seeking the full, unadulterated "Mortal Kombat" experience.Beyond just reviewing the game, we discuss the broader impact of the "Mortal Kombat" franchise on the fighting game genre. From introducing the ESRB rating system due to its graphic content to pioneering high-fidelity character animation, "Mortal Kombat" has left an indelible mark on the landscape of video games. It challenged developers and the industry at large to push boundaries—both in terms of technology and content regulation.Join Lou and me as we explore the origins, controversies, and legacy of "Mortal Kombat," understanding how this groundbreaking title not only changed the way fighting games are played but also how they are perceived in popular culture.Support the Show. We've got merch!Check out the site for some awesome Gen 'S' swag :)

While Sony may have purchased Bungie with specific end-goals in mind, it's clear -- some two years later -- that the deal hasn't improved PlayStation whatsoever. In fact, it's becoming increasingly nebulous why the acquisition was made at all, with Bungie hemorrhaging money, laying off hundreds, shedding high-end talent, and churning through funds that could be better spent by Sony's actually reliable stable of teams. With further layoffs, the creation of a new spin-off first party squad, and drama galore, there's plenty for us to get into on this topic alone. But there are other things to discuss, too: Firesprite is seemingly making a PlayStation 6 game, Until Dawn Remake got an ESRB rating, Activision's compelling white paper makes a great case for skill-based matchmaking, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Do we have any nostalgia for pandemic-era gaming? Would Sony have been wise to rely more heavily on established IP for their games-as-a-service push? With studio failures aplenty, is it even worth getting into game dev at this point? How has Colin been dealing with Boar's Head's darkest days ever? Tomb raider trilogy remastered - just finished the first two games and about to start the third. Love the original series, classic childhood games of mine. My brother recommended the two Ori games so I've just started the first one of those and after a pretty slow opening its now really good, love the movement and speed of the main character. Also went back and finally finished the Doom 3 expansion Resurrection of Evil after nearly 20 years. I remember getting half life 2 and doom 3 in 2004, that was a special time. It was announced that Helldivers 2 on Steam will soon require a PlayStation Network account to log in, however PSN doesn't exist in all the countries where Steam has sold the game! This has led to some very negative reviews by the fanbase, putting a blemish on what has otherwise been a very well received game. We look at the options the fans might have beyond negative review posting. All this and much more in the news make up another week of the longest running video game podcast, Orange Lounge Radio!   Also in the News:   * Dave & Busters to implement controversial bet system * LimitedRunGames comments on CDR 3DO game sales * PS5 to add multiplayer invites thru new methods * Nintendo World Champtionships rated by ESRB   All this and more on the show where EVERY gamer has a voice-- Orange Lounge Radio! It was just a couple of weeks ago that we were discussing the newest PlayStation 5 Pro rumors, and now we have fresh scuttlebutt to parse through, particularly concerning our precious framerates and the potential of the still-unannounced console. But we can't help but also wonder what PS5's market potential will be. Will it spread the field or, as it's recently been suggested, merely sell to existing PS5 players? Heck, is there any saving console gaming at all in the long-term? Let's take some time to chat about all of that, plus other news: Helldivers 2's new patch, day-one games coming to PS+ Extra, Silent Hill 2 Remake's ESRB rating, revised PlayStation 2 sales numbers, and so much more. Then: Listener inquiries! How much to we absorb a given game's internal lore, codices, documentation, and so on? Are we ever going to figure out what a 'Soulsborne' actually is? Could a new Shark Tank-like show aimed at indie games help exciting products find their audience? Is Dustin hiding anything else from Colin and Chris that he'd like to talk about?
