Christian Limon is the former Chief Growth Officer at Wish, which was the top spending advertiser on Google and Facebook. He was also the Chief Growth Officer at Tubi and Gemini. Throughout his career, Christian has achieved five exits and $28 billion in IPO and M&A proceeds. He has launched 20 apps and led 33 more apps on growth and monetization. Eric Seufert is the General Partner at Heracles Capital, a pre-seed venture capital fund focused on the mobile technology ecosystem. After beginning his career at Skype, he held a marketing leadership role at Rovio, where he launched Angry Birds 2. Eric also founded Agamemnon, a mobile marketing analytics startup acquired in 2017. He is the author of Freemium Economics and manages Mobile Dev Memo, a blog on mobile advertising and monetization. In this episode… Today's marketers face a challenging paradox: the more data they have, the harder it is to identify what's valuable. Between conflicting attribution reports, algorithm-driven campaign shifts, and pressure to scale fast, many teams optimize for metrics that don't move the needle. How can growth leaders cut through the noise to build scalable and realistic strategies? Seasoned mobile growth strategist Christian Limon emphasizes the need for broad, strategic creative testing that breaks out of traditional methods like UGC. He recommends marketers tap into unconventional sources and avoid over-controlling creative input. Leading economic and digital marketing strategist Eric Seufert urges brands to prioritize commercial outcomes like profit and ROAS rather than exclusive platform metrics. Marketers can also use AI to enhance workflows and generate ideas for optimizing LTV.  Join William Harris in today's episode of the Up Arrow Podcast as he chats with Christian Limon, growth strategist, and Eric Seufert, General Partner at Heracles Capital, about optimizing growth marketing. Together, they discuss how to identify meaningful marketing metrics, how to build systematic, creative-first campaigns, and the dangers of over-diversifying channels.

When a mysterious boatload of green pigs, led by the overly charming Leonard (Bill Hader), arrives bearing gifts and promises of friendship, Red is the only one suspicious enough to see through their porky deception. As his feathered neighbors throw a raucous welcome party, the pigs pull off the ultimate heist—stealing the birds' most precious possessions: their eggs. Forced into action, Red, alongside his hyperactive sidekick Chuck (Josh Gad) and the explosive Bomb (Danny McBride), sets off on a high-flying adventure to reclaim their future hatchlings. The trio's only hope? The legendary, if wildly out-of-shape, Mighty Eagle (Peter Dinklage). What follows is a slapstick-fueled siege of Piggy Island, culminating in a bombastic, wing-flapping showdown that's part Mission: Impossible, part Looney Tunes mayhem. With its vibrant animation, zippy humor, and a surprising amount of heart, The Angry Birds Movie takes a viral mobile game and launches it into a kinetic, family-friendly blockbuster that's as charmingly ridiculous as it is unexpectedly fun.

Mobile game Angry Birds debuted on the App Store on 11th December, 2009. The quirky and fun cartoonish characters and addictive gameplay found fans - but it took Apple featuring the app as their ‘Game of the Week' in early 2010 for the Finnish creation to become a cultural juggernaut, catapulting mobile gaming into the mainstream. Angry Birds wasn't just a game; it was a masterclass in universal appeal. Rovio cracked the code of "four-quadrant gaming," targeting men, women, kids, and adults alike. Its intuitive drag-and-release mechanics suited the touchscreen revolution, making it accessible to non-gamers, and, by 2011, Angry Birds had evolved into a full-blown multimedia empire, spawning toys, cartoons, and a movie. Though sceptics doubted its longevity, the 2016 "Angry Birds" movie grossed $352 million, proving the franchise's unexpected staying power. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly explain what a roast turkey had to do with the Angry Birds phenomenon; consider how the game ushered in a rush for downloadable updates and an ever-closer developer-player relationship; and come to blows as to whether future generations of kids will recognise the characters as they do Mickey Mouse now… Further Reading: • ‘Ten Years at the Top - An in-depth chronicle of Angry Birds' history' (Pocket Gamer, 2019): https://www.pocketgamer.com/angry-birds/ten-years-at-the-top-an-in-depth-chronicle-of-angr/ • ‘In depth: How Rovio made Angry Birds a winner (and what's next)' (Wired, 2011): https://www.wired.com/story/how-rovio-made-angry-birds-a-winner/ • ‘Angry Birds In-game Trailer' (Rovio, 2009): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNNzRyd1xz0 Love the show? Jesse is based in Finland. Questions Jesse Answered in this Episode:What have you developed at GeeklabDo apps need to have different strategies for different app stores? What have you learned since starting the company? What are app developers A/B testing in the app store with your platform? Are there specific creatives that you leverage more than others? How are you leveraging AI at Geeklab? What quantitative metrics are you looking at when A/B testing? Have you found that apps need to scrap their advertising strategies when they see high download volumes but Day 1 retention isn't there? How have privacy changes affected the testing that you do?Timestamp:1:40 How Jesse co-founded Geeklab3:52 What does Geeklab do? 6:45 App store optimization for Apple vs. Google Play7:47 Early startup learnings10:28 What A/B testing app store pages looks like14:07 Creatives: efficiency vs. performance15:32 Leveraging AI at Geeklab19:07 Key metrics to app store page testing27:27 What we learned from ATT and IDFA 30:26 Surveys vs. user behaviorQuotes:(4:04-4:32) “The reason why we need a tool like ours is that there are certain limitations that come with the native testing opportunities that Apple or Google provides. Like I mentioned, coming up with a new game idea or new app idea, and wanting to figure out what to call the app itself would be something that you couldn't test with the actual testing pages because they don't support any testing unless you actually develop the app already and have it up and running.”Mentioned in this Episode:Jesse Lempiäinen's LinkedInGeeklab

This is Matt Reustle and today we are breaking down the mobile gaming industry. It was several months ago that I was reading an industry report for our Business Breakdown on Electronic Arts. I was shocked to see that mobile gaming was now 50% of the overall gaming market. What really stood out to me was just how different the business model is. You have smaller game developers operating with a completely different monetization model. It's the same industry but with drastically different strategies. To break down the industry, I'm joined by Eric Seufert. Eric spent his early career in the heart of mobile gaming, notably as a Vice President at Rovio, which developed Angry Birds. Today, Eric is the creator of Mobile Dev Memo, a publication focused on mobile monetization. For this conversation, Eric details the history and inflection points for mobile gaming, what the market structure looks like today, and how regulation and privacy have impacted the business model and strategies.  For the full show notes, transcript, and links to the best content to learn more, check out the episode page here.  ----- This episode is brought to you by Tegus.
