While this softens the blow of the 360 marketplace's closure there are still a massive amount of games being left behind. Physical copies of these games will and in some cases already have seen an increase in value. Digital only games like Rush ‘N Attack Expatriot, Rez HD, Vigilante 8 Arcade, and all of the Arcade Kinect games will be largely left to time, piracy notwithstanding. Here's hoping that the recently rumored renewed focus on backwards compatibility from Microsoft comes to fruition.     - PS3 -While Sony had previously announced in 2021 that it was shutting down its PS3 digital storefront, the company reversed its decision after a backlash from fans. I finished Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth and moved on to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and no, you don't actually know the story, so be wary of spoilers. (Not from me, though!) Octopath Traveler has been delisted temporarily from the Nintendo eShop, most likely due to the change in publisher. Toys For Bob, the studio that brought us Skylanders, is leaving Microsoft after the Activision merger. Sony Interactive performed a Reduction in Workforce this week, closing several studios and canceling other projects in flight. EA has also performed layoffs this week, cancelling several licensed games that were in development. The interesting part of their announcement is how much it actually costs to lay off employees and cancel license deals. This leads to a discussion about if games are really more expensive to the consumer or not, and if the rising game budgets are sustainable given inflation. Then we talk to Rob about how he hasn't started Final Fantasy VII Rebirth yet.

Oops! Did a third-party press release just leak the release date of the long-awaited Nintendo Switch 2? People are speculating that September 2024 is when the Switch successor will finally drop -- just in time for the holiday shopping season. ➡️ Tip Jar and Fan Support: http://ClownfishSupport.com ➡️ Official Merch Store: http://ShopClownfish.com ➡️ Official Website: http://ClownfishGaming.net Additional Context: The gaming world is buzzing with the latest leak surrounding the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. According to recent reports, an AI company, Altec Lansing, inadvertently spilled the beans on the Nintendo Switch 2's release date in a press release for their AI Shark software, a successor to GameShark. The press release hinted at a launch in September 2024, which has stirred excitement and speculation among gaming enthusiasts and industry insiders alike. This revelation came as part of Altec Lansing's announcement at CES 2024, where they showcased their AI Shark technology, which promises to redefine the gaming landscape with its AI-enhanced capabilities. Diving into the technical details, a leak from an online forum has brought to light some potential specs and features of the Nintendo Switch 2, rumored to be named the Nintendo Switch Wonder. The leak suggests model variants of 64 GB and 256 GB, with pricing set at $400 for the 64 GB model and $500 for the 256 GB model, which reportedly includes Super Mario Wonder as a pack-in game. The device is expected to boast an OLED screen with touch input and a 900p resolution, a significant upgrade from the current model. Additionally, it's anticipated to feature two cameras (front and back), Hall effect thumbsticks on the Joycons, and a dock with built-in hardware. The dock's specs are particularly intriguing, as it suggests capabilities for independent use, possibly for media purposes like browsing the Nintendo eShop or streaming shows. Furthermore, the Nintendo Switch Wonder is expected to be compatible with existing Nintendo Switch game cartridges, but with a unique twist in the way it handles game downloads. It's important to note, however, that while these leaks have generated a lot of interest, their accuracy remains unconfirmed. Nintendo has not yet provided any official information on the name or release date of their next console. The gaming community eagerly awaits an official announcement, likely in an upcoming Nintendo Direct, which could shed more light on the new console's features, upgrades, and the lineup of games set to debut alongside it. For now, all eyes are on Nintendo, as fans and industry watchers anticipate further details on what could be a significant step forward in handheld gaming technology. A Video Game Time Capsule: The Complete History of Video Games, presented by MRIXRT @reallycool

2021-2023: An era marked by significant upheavals and unexpected twists in the gaming world. The industry, in 2021, contended with the aftershocks of the COVID-19 pandemic, facing challenges from software delays to a global semiconductor shortage, leading to game postponements and cancellations. Amid this turmoil, the retro gaming sector flourished, with vintage games reaching record auction prices, though concerns of market manipulation cast shadows. 2022 pivoted to consolidation, headlined by Microsoft's colossal acquisition of Activision. While giants pursued acquisitions, the demise of E3 marked the end of an expo era, and EA's return to single-player games, highlighted by successes like Dead Space and Skate, offered a silver lining. 2023 began with the gaming community at an inflection point, with Google Stadia's shutdown and the closure of the Nintendo eShop triggering debates on the trajectory of cloud gaming and digital platforms. As consolidation remains a dominant trend, the industry anticipates emerging innovations and challenges that will shape its destiny. We're gathered here today to mourn & celebrate the life of a video game console, Nintendo's last handheld-only device, the small but mighty Nintendo 3DS.As of March 27th, 2023, the Nintendo eShop for the 3DS and Wii U will be officially shut down, meaning 866 Wii U games and 1547 3DS games will no longer be available to purchase. We've already dedicated an episode in the past to the Nintendo Wii U, so today we're taking a look back at our memories of the 3DS: our favorite games to grace the device, StreetPass & other quirky apps, its hit-&-miss use of its signature stereoscopic 3D gimmick, and some last-minute purchases we've recently downloaded & played in the eShop's twilight hours. Plus we wax poetic a bit about the death of digital media, the importance of video game preservation, and the ethics of p*racy & emulation (not that we know what tf we're talking about! we're just two gaymers with a podcast and opinions!) If you're listening to this before 3/27/23, we hope this episode provides a couple of last-minute game recommendations to download! Otherwise... we don't know what to tell ya, but thanks for listening anyways! Good luck finding a physical copy of some of these games on eBay I guess?  RIP to the 3DS. You had a good at it, thanks for your input

Atomic Heart is a new game from a new studio called Mundfish. "In a mad and sublime utopian world, take part in explosive encounters. Adapt your fighting style to each opponent, use your environment and upgrade your equipment to fulfill your mission. If you want to reach the truth, you'll have to pay in blood."
