It's time to do it again as we kick off Stealth Boom Boom season 2! According to our first game of 2024, your mind is the ultimate weapon. In fairness, that does make sense; if you're reading this, your brain is capable of big things (because you're an intelligent person who is about to listen to this podcast). We're going back 20 years to look at a cult classic third-person action-adventure game from 2004. We're talking Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy. On this episode of Stealth Boom Boom, we look at the storied history of Midway Games and how Metal Gear Solid inspired the team to begin development on ESPionage. We also discuss COLD and their rock n' roll banger With My Mind, as well as how the story of The Mindgate Conspiracy was quite similar to the story of an unreleased movie. In our review, you'll hear some chat on Far Cry-like perceptive enemies, a prompt to be mindful of your sound (even though it seems like it doesn't matter?), a silenced pistol that is absolutely pointless, training sections that imply the game will allow you to perform stealthy kills, mind controlling a guard and getting trigger happy. the lost oppportunity of first-person ghosting through doors in Remote View, a cover system that some of us missed, Pyrokinesis by Ronseal, the JOY of flinging lads against walls with Telekinesis, some really weightless and unsatisfying weapons (except for the sniper rifle), a three-headed devil dragon, the fact we're just living in a world of flying invisible alien squid crab spiders, psychic-armoured guards, a surprisingly boring story, characters who speak fluent exposition, AN EVIL TWIN SISTER, Nick Scryer being a video game man that says video game things, John Readsyourmind, mom's favourite, a Psi-Ops 2 tease, and the AA video game. After all that, the lads take you through what some of the critics were saying about the game around the time it came out, and then they give their final verdicts on whether Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy is a Pass, a Play, or an Espionage Explosion. For those who would like to play along at home, we'll be discussing, reviewing and dissecting Second Sight on the next episode of Stealth Boom Boom.IMPORTANT LINKS TO THINGS

Released May 2021, Spy Hunter & Paper Boy #1-6 (DC, $3.99 each): a "digital first" (but in reality digital only) comic arriving on DC's digital first channels including ComiXology, with all six issues released on the same day You can find the issues digitally on Amazon (formerly comiXology) link https://t.co/e4xMWUOT2x You can also find the issue in other places if you were to Google "spyhunter paperboy viewcomic" The series is written by Larry Hama with art by Mac Rey, and letters by Pat Brosseau and it features a crossover between two old video game franchises, Spy Hunter and Paper Boy. There are very few details publicly available about the book - all 6 issues were quietly released as "Digital first" in May 2021 without any sort of fanfare or publicity by DC. There was really nothing in the comic itself that explained what the series was or why it existed and never had a print release. This is some of the best GI Joe like work by Hama since his prime in the 80s at Marvel with some stunning art. You can read the series and listen or listen and then read it or just listen, whatever!. There are a few spoilers but we've tried not to go too heavy on details of plot. Mac Rey (artist) - Arkansas resident, Mathew “Mac Rey” Reynolds started out in comics back in the early days of Malibu on books like AIRMAN and THE PROTECTORS, more recently he has worked on THE MERCENARY SEA from Image Comics. And “The RUFF and REDDY SHOW” from DC comics. After working on a creator-owned project called VIC FALCON with G.I. JOE writer Larry Hama, they went on to work together on Spy Hunter & Paper Boy. Spy Hunter: a vehicular combat action game developed by Bally Midway and released for arcades in 1983. The object of the game is to drive down roads in the technologically advanced the fictitious G-6155 Interceptor car and destroy various enemy vehicles with a variety of onboard weapons. Paperboy is an arcade action game developed and published by Atari Games and Midway Games, and released in 1985. The player takes the role of a paperboy who delivers a fictional newspaper called The Daily Sun along a suburban street on his bicycle. The game was ported to many home systems beginning in 1986.

The development of the first game was originally based on an idea that Ed Boon and John Tobias had of making a video game starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, but when that idea fell through, a science fantasy-themed fighting game was created instead. Still, the developers paid homage to him with Johnny Cage (one of the main characters in the franchise), a fictional film star whose personal style resembles Van Damme's. The original game spawned many sequels with several action-adventure games. It also has a comic book series and a card game. Mortal Kombat has become the best-selling fighting game franchise worldwide and one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time. ________________________________________________________________________ Grab a beer, a slice of pizza and come hang out with us. In this week's episode, Nicky and Eric huddle up to give a rundown on the history of NFL Blitz. NFL Blitz is an American football video game developed and published by Midway Games for the arcade in 1997, the first game in the NFL Blitz series. The game diverges from traditional rules of football in that there are no penalties, no substitutions, and players can perform illegal attacks on each other such as dropkicks and body slams. The game was ported to the PlayStation, Nintendo 64, Windows, and Game Boy Color in 1998. About us: Press Any Button hosts Nicky (a new gamer) and Eric (a lifetime gamer) are a married couple who both love video games. For every video game they will discuss its past (history of the game, developers story, and fun facts), present (game play, game review and strategy), and future (will there be a sequel?? A movie?) BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE… Every game also comes with a challenge presented by the host that chose the game. If the challenge is not completed then whoever failed has to do a video game rap! So if you want to learn more about video games, hear some nerdy video game raps, or just have a good time this is the podcast for you. YOUR SOUL IS MINE! Mortal Kombat, as a video game, was a worldwide phenomenon. It made sense to make it into a movie. It really was an unprecedented hit, too. And it all started with the arcade game for Terminator 2: Judgement Day and Midway Games' love of Jean-Claude Van Damme.... TEST YOUR MIGHT! Mortal Kombat: Annihilation promised three times the ambition of the first movie, with more fights, more special effects and more Outworld. It did follow through on those promises, to be fair to varying degrees of success, but there was some genuine innovation behind the scenes... On today's episode: The video game industry hasn't been shy to embracing controversy in their video games. In 1976, developer Exidy stoked fears from the media with their arcade game, Death Race, and its portrayal of violence against enemies in it's virtual world. Midway Games took it to another level with it's fatalities in Mortal Kombat in 1993 - so much so, that it spawned the ESRB. As graphical and compute power has increased greatly since those games came out, so has the potential to stir even more controversy - increased violence, sexual representation (over-sexualization), controversy for the sake of controversy. If we say the words "No Russian" or "White phosphorus," we're sure for many of you listening you know what we are directly referring to. Given the ongoing situations at home and abroad, as well as the portrayal of real-world events in video games, its time for us to discuss Controversy's Place in Gaming. Mortal Kombat 2021, film review - rDNA Podcast #MortalKombat #MortalKombat2021review #FilmReviews Mortal Kombat is a 2021 martial arts fantasy film based on the video game franchise of the same name and a reboot of the Mortal Kombat film series. The film stars Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Tadanobu Asano, Mehcad Brooks, Ludi Lin, Chin Han, Max Huang, Joe Taslim, and Hiroyuki Sanada. It is directed by Simon McQuoid (in his feature directorial debut), from a screenplay by Greg Russo and Dave Callaham and a screen story by Russo and Oren Uziel. The film follows Cole Young, a washed-up mixed martial arts fighter who is unaware of his hidden lineage or why assassin Sub-Zero is hunting him down. Concerned for the safety of his family, he seeks out a clique of fighters that were chosen to defend Earthrealm against Outworld. Following the critical and commercial failure of the 1997 film Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, a third Mortal Kombat film languished in development hell for a period of nearly two decades. In late 2010, Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema (whose parent company acquired the franchise from Midway Games in 2009) began developing a new film, with Kevin Tancharoen serving as director from a script written by Uziel in the wake of their Mortal Kombat: Rebirth short film. James Wan was announced as a producer in August 2015 and McQuoid was hired as director in November 2016. Hold onto your sharply brimmed hats, it's MORTAL KOMBAT! Kam Servo, Miles Schneiderman, Dan Mulkerin, and MeganBob are one step ahead of Outworld in this episode, but the true destination for Hard Choices is always "The NetherRealm". Straight from the scantily klad arcade art of our youths, we rank 21 Mortal Kombat kharacters in an attempt to separate the kolor-swapped filler from the ones that make us say "Get over here!".  We kover it all from animalities to Zaterrans and leave nothing untouched in our quest to unlock the median of fuckability in the Mortal Kombat universe. There's plenty of mashing in this episode and it's not limited to the button variety. We're forced to ask, is four arms the best number of arms? Are we okay with kold feet and kold everything else? Mileena with or without the mask? and wait, THAT'S what Scorpion's animality is??? Midway Games has probably left us with more questions than answers when it komes to the world of Mortal Kombat, but one thing's for sure. We'll never look at the kharacter select screen the same way again... Mortal Kombat is a 2021 martial arts fantasy film based on the video game franchise of the same name and a reboot of the Mortal Kombat film series.[4] The film stars Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Tadanobu Asano, Mehcad Brooks, Ludi Lin, Chin Han, Max Huang, Joe Taslim, and Hiroyuki Sanada. It is directed by Simon McQuoid (in his feature directorial debut), from a screenplay by Greg Russo and Dave Callaham and a screen story by Russo and Oren Uziel.[5] The film follows Cole Young, a washed-up mixed martial arts fighter who is unaware of his hidden lineage or why assassin Sub-Zero is hunting him down. Concerned for the safety of his family, he seeks out a clique of fighters that were chosen to defend Earthrealm against Outworld.Following the critical and commercial failure of the 1997 film Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, a third Mortal Kombat film languished in development hell for a period of nearly two decades. Production took place at Adelaide Studios in Adelaide and at other locations in South Australia.[6] Principal photography occurred from September to December 2019.Support Our SponsorsIndie Merch Store - https://www.indiemerchstore.com use promo code JASTA10 at check outMartyrstore - https://martyrstore.net use code JJ15The Mad Russian Apothecary - https://www.madrussianapothecary.com use code JASTA21Promescent - Use this link: https://bit.ly/3y9jZAP to get 15% off + free shipping automatically added on all orders!Rockauto - https://www.rockauto.comSubscribe On GaS Digitalhttps://gasdigitalnetwork.com/gdn-show-channels/the-jasta-show/USE PROMO Code JASTA for a 7 day free trial.Follow Jamey On Patreonhttps://www.patreon.com/jastaFollow Jamey On Social Mediahttps://twitter.com/jameyjastahttps://www.instagram.com/jameyjastaFollow Brian MacKay On Social Mediahttps://twitter.com/bmackayisrighthttps://www.instagram.com/bmackayisrightMusician, former television host, and podcaster Jamey Jasta (Hatebreed, Kingdom of Sorrow, Jasta and the former host of MTV's Headbanger's Ball) interviews your heroes every Monday and Thursday. Canadian-born composer, Andrew Lockington has composed original scores for feature films such as: ‘SAN ANDREAS', the Golden Globe nominated “FRANKIE AND ALICE” starring Halle Berry,“PERCY JACKSON SEA OF MONSTERS”, “JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH”, and “CITY OF EMBER”, “THE SPACE BETWEEN US” and the Netflix series “FRONTIER”He recently scored the 2018, American, sci-fi monster film, RAMPAGE - directed by Brad Peyton. The film is loosely based on the video game series of the same name by Midway Games. The film stars Dwayne Johnson, Naomie Harris, Malin Åkerman, Jake Lacy, Joe Manganiello, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. It follows a primatologist named Davis Okoye who must team up with George, an albino gorilla who turns into a raging creature of enormous size as a result of a rogue experiment, to stop two other mutated animals from destroying Chicago. It is the third collaboration between Peyton and Johnson, following Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (2012) and San Andreas (2015).In this episode, Andrew lockington opens up his score for RAMPAGE, sharing with us how he looked to nature to inform his approach, specifically studying gorillas and other apes and the sounds they make. He also studied African music and choir which eventually lead him to employing the African Childrens Choir and, finally, he discusses how he employed electronic elements into his score to connect the film to its video game roots.ANNOTATED TRACKS02:12 - Space03:30 - Gorillas05:18 - Pavo06:27 - Wyoming07:41 - Cornfield11:00 - Chicago13:56 - Requiem17:03 - RampageSOUNDTRACKThe original score was released by Water Tower Music on April 13, 2018 and is available digitally on Amazon.com, iTunes, and streaming on Spotify and Apple music.
